View Full Version : Slow-Mo room in level

I was reading the IGn hands on preview and it said something about a level with a tunnel that has anti-gravity and it got me thinking, i would love to see a Dm level where there is a corridor or something and its in slow mo once u enter it but the rest of the level it nomal, not using the slow volume tho, just apart of the level, wot do u guys think?

Yea lots of people have had this thought ever since they introduced the stasis field deployable for vehicular gametypes. I'm sure it'll be completely possible to make a DeathMatch map with certain locations that'll cause players to go in slow motion.
It'll actually most likely be just a simple volume that you shape and place in your map, probably called a Slow Volume, which of course like all volumes you would be able to also tweak its values.

question, i know this is thioritical stuff but technically if you slow down the volume to the point where time stops, if you do a minues time value wouldnt time reverse.

haha that would be interesting tho, u jump walk thro then when u just bout at the end it rewinds u and someone else outside the corridor already knows where your steped so they take u out easily. i hope there are slow-mo corridors or somethign in one or two levels if not someone need to make one haha

TBO, slo-mo rooms would kinda suck. I dont mean as an idea, i mean to move through. You guys have prolly seen vids with it shown, it makes you incredibly slow so slow tht ppl would prolly avoid the room like the plague as it is boring. But, if say you put something worth getting then it'd be cool. Like put a deemer or keg o' health in the center to make it worth moving through and risking being spotted by other players.

i think anyone who makes a map like this is guna play it and realise it sucks.. who wants to take 1 min to get accros a room? its stupid

yeah! Slowmo flag room would be really great!!!!!!

There could be huge slowmo battles for capturing and defending the flag, specially with Rocket launcher being the only weapon you could use there. Just imagine trying to dodge rockets.

yeh it would be a stupid peice of cake.. have u ever used the speed mutator to slow down game play... makes you play so much better.. can even get monster kills with the LG

Who ever said the room had to be big.
Most mappers would probably only make it as large as the stasis field itself or maybe a tiny bit bigger, something that most likely wouldnt take you no more then 8 seconds to get across from one side to the other.

Ofcourse it's possible and it has been done before, just look at the hyperblast level, inside the spaceship is a normal gravity applied and outside you float with low grav since it's ment to look as outer space.
Same with morph, inside the towers there's normal grav, outside low.

"Serious" players don't like not having ground beneath their feet.

BTW: In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a "serious" player, I play to have fun.

map, in the center the deemer spawns, in a slow room, with glass walls. everyone can see u moving in. u are easy target. rest of map: 4 tower's with bridges between them. underground tunnel's going into a secret underground bunker in center. big map oc.

haha mint my first post and its going good, well to me it is haha, yea i really like this idea aye, just the fact of seeing people go in slow motion and your going normal speed, oo i wish they put it into a level!!! :D

The way timestepping works, having negative time would just make everything move backwards, and reverse gravity, etc. @-@

I think it will be aviable now to set up slomo volumes in Unreal Editor.

I could see an all-projectile slow volume map. No idea if it would be popular or not. I guess it depends on the quality of the map to begin with.

Another interesting thought put invisible panels in the sky neer high up snipers spots. They slow bullets so it would effectivly cause a buffer or delay by a few miliseconds would it not.

Would make the player have to place his shots rather then point and shoot.

Bullets are hitscan and will not slow because of a slow volume, since there are no projectiles to travel through it, though. :)

they will, acording to a official epic statement. don't know where i have read it though. he said: outside slow mo it is hitscan, in it i is just a fast bullet, very hard to dodge

well intead of putting something inside the room, make it no option instead. What i mean by that is instead of putting an incentive to go into the room, to get from one side of the map to the other, make it so you HAVE to enter the slow-mo room/corridor in order to get around the map.... So theres no avoiding it... it wouldn't suck, this will actually add a new kind of gameplay to the game when u get bored with the traditional levels. It'll only suck if you cnat adapt, and unreal is all about adapting to game styles. If someone makes such a lvl i'd definately DL it :)
