Most of these threads have been talking about big topics, such as the orb, movement, vehicles etc. Id like to dedicate one to the beauty that small details can add to a game - the accesories that make a game stand out.

This is mainly because i have a few small wishes, but please post the small details you've though are cool and would like to see.

I would like to see:

1) Destroyable crates, vases, wooden boxes which blow into shards of wood and may hide an item, aka unreal or UT ones.
2) Shiney, reflective walls/floors as seen in Unreal/UT. These would reflect EVERYTHING in real time, so you could look down and see yourself run around while flak shells went over your head etc. UT2004 it seemed you had to create a special texture with a screenshot added in to have any reflection - unreal seemed to do this fine 10 years ago so i don't see why it can't feature now.
3) A 'playersonly' command that freezes everything - from weapons to dead bodies to vehicles, and lets you fire in that mode ala UT.
4) Secondry flak explosion flechettes that don't always go up, they randomly go to the side as well - more dangerous. In ut2004 they might as well be just for decoration.
5) A teleport 'effect' when entering a portal instead of just vanishing instantly - and a better 'spawn/teleport in' effect than ut2004's ugly one.
6) Security cameras that work online, if possible.
7) Headshots with weapons other than the sniperrifle. I don't mean you get instant headshots with the enforcer/do more damage (did u do more damage aiming at the head in ut?) i mean more as a cosmetic effect: If the shot that will kill your opponent lands in his face, his head should come off.
8) And finally...the addition of a few birds and ground animals for general ambience/believability that these are actual planets your fighting on, and planets with plants will no doubt have some animals too!

Thankyou - wether Epic reads this or not, i just wanted to give an opinion of all the small things that you really do notice in a game - giving it an edge. UT3 already looks stunning and i know the gameplay will rock, so hopefully now is the time for those little things.

I want to see better decals for bullet holes in wall. UT99 was better. Also I would like to see the satellite come back for the painter. I think it was cool.:)

Not as interesting in a non-linear online game as it is in a linear offline game, but I'm ok with that.

That may be and online vs offline thing. I don't know. Not sure how resource intensive such things are.

6) Security cameras that work online, if possible.

I would definitely like to see this if possible.

In addition, I'd like to know where I am in maps. I like that that nodes now have names (as seen in the Leipzig GC shakycam shots), but I would also like to be sure of other areas. Different people come up with their own names, and that could get confusing if you move around from server to server.

This happened in Unreal1 if i recall correctly, with the enforcer, stinger, rifle, razorjack and i think biorifle but i'm not sure.

Something tells me the animals would get the hell outta' there as soon as the artillery shells and giant energy weapons ad nukes started going off. I can't really imagine a deer wandering in and grazing in the middle of a war zone...

How about some sort of draconic vulture, or insectoid carrion eater. This ain't a Disney production.

It would be cool if the playersonly code could be accessed and modified this time around. In the very least, have a function that allows you to pause any given object/actor (or unpause a given one while in an overall paused state).

I also like the idea of having creatures around. You wouldn't believe how timid some creatures can be in the face of firearms. MOST animals exhibit an unbelievable sense of "home" and so will only scurry a short ways --to the nearest "safe" zone-- when they hear a noise or see an explosion/fire. It's only when their very space is being threatened that they make an all-out escape.

i agree with everything you said jonny.... i love those little details, and believe it or not they can make or break a game for me,... they are kinda like a little extra incentive to play a game.

I really hope this game doesnt simply comprise of kill everything with gun in this sense,... id like to see imaginitive details, a little destructive scenery etc... just to add a little extra life to it

About the working security cameras.
We have seen working Portals where you can see th other side where you will be when you walk through.

Just disable the ability to walk through, put a Monitor-Mesh in front of it... ...viola.

6) Security cameras that work online, if possible.I always wanted that. Clever mappers could create nice tactics on it.

7) Headshots with weapons other than the sniper rifle. I don't mean you get instant headshots with the enforcer/do more damage (did u do more damage aiming at the head in ut?) i mean more as a cosmetic effect: If the shot that will kill your opponent lands in his face, his head should come off.I must admit in UT2K4 I went on for months aiming every possible weapon at the opponent's head, because I assumed that, even if you weren't awarded headshots, it had to do more damage anyway... :o ehm... Well, it would be a good thing. Makes sense to me.
Anyway, you are talking of the cosmetic side of things. Well, if the screenshots we saw are faithful to the game, this time around players die with style... see the gibs made by a scorpion, or the skeletonizing with the linkgun... so they could make for some good headshot-with-any-weapon, but in the end I expect them to give us headshot animations only with rifles... not that many people would complain, it's a minimal detail.

8) And finally...the addition of a few birds and ground animals for general ambience/believability that these are actual planets your fighting on, and planets with plants will no doubt have some animals too!I always thought that games needed a lot more of destructable, moving things, shrubbery, leaves, dirt, mud, soft objects, NPCs, wandering animals...
While other productions are working on some of that (in the other "must game" Crysis you can actually catch a chicken with your hands and throw it to enemies, plus there are some more animal species...), CPU and other resources (RAM mostly for consoles) are easily wasted, plus there is additional work to do for artist's/programmers... things are going to move very slowly in this "non-essential" field, especially considering Ageia's slow start/failure.
But UT is arena-based, fast and loud, so things like grazing animals are a bit out of place, while inside games on reels,à la Doom, it's easier to put side effects and funny furry things because you can predict how hard your system is to be stressed by the game at any given time, so you can balance it more easily.

For me, as for scenery/side objects, I'd just be happy if Epic, instead of giving people the option to turn off fake objects-scenery and light effects, would explicitly forbid it and BAN FOR LIFE those cheating with visuals.
If the mapper put some bushes in that place, and I want to hide there, I have the right not to be seen by some lamo who just turned off shrubbery. Thanks.

animals is a great idea. playersonly was already done in 2k4 from the console (not a game console, the text box that comes up when you press `). If you could add animals, it would be neat to see the mod animals that arise. Personally, I'd like to see the old-skool pokemon (151). I know lots of people will think its lame, but the pokemon games were some of the best rpg games of their time, especially for the gameboy, and i had a lot of fun playing them as a kid.
