Is anyone else having this problem? I can't even play a game now. The timing of the freeze varies from 10 seconds to 2 minutes, but alas it happens. The screen flickers, buzzes, then freezes indefinitely.

I have tried every permutation imaginable: exchange batteries, use a different controller, see if all other games work (check, all working), etc.

So my game is now totally useless, and since the update was patched to my 360's hard drive, I don't have the option of forking the money for a new disc, because that won't help!

Um, fix?

I don't think thats the update problem, your the first one that complain about this, if it was the update problem, many people will had the same problem. I would call Microsoft and explain them this problem, I think your 360 is gonna to give up..

Try different games. If it happens for all your games, then your 360 is dead.

Don't blame it on Gears though. It's just bad timing. My 360 died the day I got Gears of War (Emergence Day)

Sounds like the begining to '3 red lights' to me... my advice, dont touch the box again until you have a cooling unit like the Cooler King or something similar.

My 360 only freezes after extended hours playing it and with my heater running which causes the box to overheat and freeze i guess, thats understandable. But what i have been noticing since the patch was when im joining a game and i lose connection to the host itll keep me in the loading screen forever. I cant hit back or start to leave the screen so i gotta bring up the xbox guid menu and hit Y to go to the dashboard to leave the freezing state.

As stated, it happens only with this game. The timing would be incredible if it were pure coincidence. The freezing started within twenty minutes of the update, and hasn't stopped since. I had not frozen once before. As for a cooling unit, I'm not going to spend the money to buy a cooling unit for a unit I already paid $500 for. Include it!

On a semi-positive note, I did notice where someone explained that they tried to fix VGA problems with this patch, so I'm going to try switching the Xbox tv settings back to normal rather than high def. I'll repost if this helps.

Otherwise, any more ideas other than 'your xbox broke?' It's not that. No other games have the problem. I've tried two discs of GoW. Both fault.

Instead of going back to the dashboard just hit X to sign out that should get it out of the loading then do it again and sign in saves time booting game up.

Could people PLEASE stop just telling people that their 360 is hosed. I know 3 people this happened to.

They each called the 800 number and they had to do the "remove last patch" trick over 4 times to get the game to work again.

So YES there appears to be a small problem with the patch on some systems but I think it has to do more with a corrupt download (those with horrid internet connections).

Try doing the uninstall patch trick about 4 times and then load the game up and see if it works. If you can get the game to work again then re-download the patch and you should be good to go unless there is something with your connection that is getting you corrupt downloads.

I had my first ever freeze with Gears last night. It had never happened before. I was playing Annex. But it was only once, we'll see...

noviceuser, you're mentioning the 'remove last patch' trick. do you know how to do this?

Per update, I haven't had any problems with it freezing the past two days. Very strange!

Sounds like a bad download more then your 360. You stated all your other games play fine correct? If so then you could try to delete the download but I had a similar situation with a different title (Think it was RS vegas) and I had to go as far as reformatting my hard drive. I had alot of songs and was not happy but at least I didnt have a dead 360 yet (that came next download :)) and it worked fine from there.

Try calling MS first to see if you can clear the download and then try again first. Use Formatting as a last resort and backup what you can to your PC before you do it. Hope that helps some.

Atleast it's not as bad as the recent Guitar Hero II update.
