1. Name: P-51D Mustang
2. Version: Beta 2
3. Compatibility: Compiled under latest patch for UT2004.
4. Description: A WWII fighter plane, with devastating on board cannons. There is a mutator included to give you a Mustang Launcher at spawn. Keep pressing forward to go faster, back to go slower. Throttle is sorta-jammed so you don't fall out of the sky when you let go of the forward button. Left/Right button controls rudder, use mouse to bank/pitch. "WOIIPlanesBeta.Mustang" is the proper summon code.
5. Comments: Model isn't done, no texture for it either yet because it isn't UV-Mapped, also ikarus decided to take a break from finishing said model. I also need a better propeller sound.

Mustang_M.ukx is included in the zip, you need to place it inside animations folder.

yes first person view is lacking from lots of flying vehicles, like raptor/manta/cicada...would of been real cool for them

Tis would be excellent if the camera was placed inside the cockpit that gives you the feel of actually being inside a plane.
Take Monarch's Airpower version 4 for example!

your plain looks very tiny on the screenshots, so i thought that this was a toy!
it should be bigger!

Hey...I checked it out and it is pretty kool. Would have to be used on really big maps though as the ones I was checking it out on were too small and I crashed repeatedly!!! I think the first person view would help with the flying maybe.
Verrry nice work! I never could get the plane code to work like this. Would you be willing to show me the source code?

I know of a way to make the cockpit without remodeling the plane. I used this trick on some stock UT vehicles like the Mirage Manta.

I made the engine pod meshes and used them as the gun for the vehicle. You could make the cockpit and bone it for the weapon and attach it to the root bone of the vehicle. Then all you have to do is use a 2 sided glass texture on the canopy and adjust the player position. Make sure your code draws the player inside the vehicle too. bDrawDriverInTP=True

I tried it out and its pretty cool but the model has some holes in it. Also do you plan on making a propeller? You could animate it and code it to play the spin animation when someone enters the vehicle. I can give you the code to do this.

Also, it is indeed a bit small...
And when it hits something it blows up almost instantly...
It could use some wheels.
BUT... its a really nice plane!
Hoping to see it grow to a complete one!

the holes in the model... gunfire with big bullets. funny thing!!! need some texture and animation but it's okay!!!
Still looking forward to the finished product.. P-51's my favorite WWII plane.. :)

Lack of modeler means, lack of progress. The cannons are just there because machine guns are hard to aim. The project is basically on hold for now.

If you had a new model could you finish it then?
Edit: I took some time away from my Enhanced Weapons to make you a new model. I'll animate it and give you the code to make the prop spin and landing gear go up when someone enters the vehicle and make the gear go down and the prop stop when they exit. Hes a pic of the model so far. I knocked this out in about 1 1/2 hours in Maya.

Almost done with the modeling. I still have to model the guns and I'm going to put small bomb racks under the guns on the bottom of the wings. I'll make the static mesh for the bombs and code the bombs for you. The prop blades will have their own collision boxes so if someone gets run over or walks into the blades the get killed instantly.

I dont recall the Mustang having the shark teeth. That came from the Flying Tigers and they flew Spitfires.

I got the Mustang into the game but I'm having some balance issues when it lands. It wants to go nose down when the landing gear hits the ground. I wonder if this can be coded like the flying scorpion where when on the ground its a wheeled vehicle until it reaches a certain velocity then changes to flying?
Thats right, those were Warkhawks that had the teef...
Either way, what you guys have is lookin good! :D

I have to re-do the animations and figure out why the plane isnt balancing right. When its landed it goes nose down instead of sitting on the landing gear.

You could try adjusting the KParams.KCOMOffset property. It's the center of mass offset.
