When UT2003 came out the physics looked awesome but now when i play im really bothered at how the bodies react to the ground. It looks really, well to be truly honest, stupid.
The dead bodies slides down a small slope as if its made of polished ice.
Thinking about it i guess the body should roll once or twice and if theres a really steep slope it would go all the way down (unless it touches the wall or the angle of the body is vertical to the slope)
Im sure you have given the physics a lot of thought so it would be great if you could share some info about how realistic the physics will be in UT2007 (and GoW if they share the same physics engine)
Oh, and a confirmation that sliding bodies are never to be seen again would be awesome ;)

From one of the vid interviews I saw there was a mention that the gravity was higher or heavier depending on how you like to say it. I think this was discussed regarding the whole dodge jumping questions in ut2007. So I think the dynamics in how the ragdolls relate to the world will be greatly effected by this, we wont know of course untile we play but I for one am not worried about this.

i'm certain the UE3 (physx SDK) physics have nothing to do with the old karma physics from UE2.0(5).
i think u won't see slicing bodies unless the leveldesigner need such slicing.

We've decreased the slipperiness of the physical material applied to ragdoll bodies in UT2007, and we're very happy with how the ragdolls behave now (including with respect to the behavior you mention).

Well thats good to know. Even though it is funny to see the bodies slide down a small incline.:D

Good to hear! :)
And thanks alot for taking time to shed some light over this, much appreciated

Another thing is the stretching of bodies and the twisting in an unusual way. What do you say about THAT?

maybe a bit beside the question, but will the higher gravity have any effect on the fall height? like, lets say, u get more damage while falling from a lower height?(hope u understand me, dont know the right words for it =)

I'm so glad this is fixed! I love the ragdoll physics in 2K3/4 (I would sometimes play on novice and use the slow motion corpses mutator just to watch it in action), but that bodies would slide down slopes instead of rolling always annoyed me.

:D great news, thanks for taking time to answer.

Oh, and a confirmation that sliding bodies are never to be seen again would be awesome ;) I recall mentioning this a LOOONG time back. I completely agree anyhow. :)

Sounds good. I want to see some neckbreaking and painful looking impacts when someone hits the ground with a high parallel velocity tbh.
Rolling/bouncing bodies look a lot better than sliding bodies.

In the official UT2007 trailer [the one with the narration the whole way through] you can see a guy get shot down by the Shock rifle somewhat early into the video. The deaths look much more realistic in UT2007 than they do in 04. Ragdoll physics were the best way- up until recently- to simulate lack of body control after death in video games, which meant they didn't have to script deaths [which would cause that annoying repetitiveness that I know we all hate].

All I know is that the ragdolls in Gears of War were good, so UT2007 should follow. Worry not this time around. :)
