Gears of War
Emergence
Dreams
Elexis scattered away from the falling chunks of building as a massive explosion rocked the structure beside her. She dashed forward desperately trying to avoid the crossfire between the soldiers and the creatures that were trying to kill them. She stood dazed for a moment when in the distance down the street she could see other people loading into a truck. She had no idea why but she needed to get to that truck.
She dashed ahead once again, through the crossfire and the odd and frightening creatures. One stopped and paused in front of her as she tried to get to the truck. It had pale white skin and was roughly humanoid but it also took many traits from what looked like insects. It towered over her; it was at least 9 ft. tall compared to Elexis’s 5’7. For a moment she could see into its eyes, the animal lust that drove it kill, and for a moment nothing happened. The creature then reached out with its sharp talons grabbing at her. Suddenly shots rang out, the creature’s head disappeared instantly and it doubled over backwards.
She looked to her right; standing there was a tall heavy man that had what looked like a machine gun in his arms. He smiled at her then his expressions suddenly changed. He shouted something inaudible. Elexis looked to her left and saw a swarm of the creatures running towards her. Shots once again rang out over her head and slammed into the group killing some of them, every time one fell though another came and took its place.
The group swarm made a final push towards Elexis and their attacker. The creatures fell one by one as they came towards her. She was petrified she couldn’t move she was so scared. The last creature in the group then lunged forward. Elexis’s view was then obscured not by the night sky above, but by the massive creature as it jumped forward plunging her into darkness.
Elexis awoke in a heavy and cold sweat. She breathed heavily and it took several seconds to realize where she was. She looked around; she was in her room, far from any of the nightmares that haunted her dreams. It was all so real, Elexis could have sworn it had actually happened but once again she realized that it was just a dream, nothing more. She sat in her bed for several minutes, waiting for her heart to calm down. She swiveled herself to her left hanging her legs over the bed.
She shook her head then looked over at her alarm clock.
“5 ‘o clock, well at least I’m up early anyways.” She said to herself.
Elexis then grabbed her robe from off a pedestal in her room then proceeded downstairs to the kitchen. After she was in the kitchen she helped herself to some coffee and took a seat at the table. She sat for several minutes still trying to contemplate what she had seen in her dreams. She was suddenly startled when someone grabbed her gently by the shoulder.
She looked up; standing in front of her was a tall man with a thick stubble on his chin. It was her father.
“Up so early again?” He asked as he smiled.
“Yeah, couldn’t sleep.” She replied as she took another sip of coffee.
“Don’t tell me…”
Before he could say anymore she cut him off.
“Yeah, it was the nightmares… again.” She said as she sighed.
“Well, just remember they are only nightmares, they can’t hurt you.” He said as he walked over and poured himself some coffee.
“You wouldn’t say that if you actually had this one.” She said as she drank the last sip of coffee from her mug.
“They are really that bad?” Her father asked, more concerned than before.
Elexis leaned back in her seat trying to find a more comfortable position to sit in.
“Listen, if they are getting that bad maybe we should see a doctor or something…” Her father suggested.
“Maybe…” Elexis said as she stared.
Elexis was suddenly startled yet again by another person. He brother, John, had entered the room loudly.
“The nightmares again?” Her brother said mocking her.
She sighed briefly then decided whether she should open her mouth or keep it shut.
“Why don’t they make you stay on base like everyone else?” Elexis said as she slouched further into her chair.
“Because they think I’m such a bad-ass that I can stay home where its comfortable.” He said as he opened the refrigerator.
“No, I think its cause they wanted to get away from you as much as I do now…” She shot back, aggravation apparent in her voice.
“ooooo, great come back!.” He said, mocking her yet again. “Oh well, at least I’m not having crazy dreams about the boogy man.”
“Its not the boogy man, its something much worse…” She said as she glanced over at her brother.
“Ha! Still worried about things under your bed sis? Like how old are you now 18? Shouldn’t you stop being afraid of the dark?” He replied. “You know, my friend says he’s seen one of them.”
Elexis looked at her brother, almost taking him seriously for a moment.
“In a freaking book, ha ha!” He said as he laughed cheaply at her sisters misery.
“I can’t take this, how you got into the military is beyond me considering your such an asshole!”
She stormed out of the room and returned up stairs to her bedroom. She slammed the door shut behind her. As she walked over to the bathroom she kicked a small plush toy away and it bounced harmlessly off the wall. She stormed into her bathroom throwing herself over the sink.
She looked up at herself; her red hair that draped down to her shoulder was frizzled and matted. The stresses from the nightmares were starting to take their toll.
Her skin was pale white, even more so than normal due to the dreams. Her complexion had changed too; she remembered pictures of herself from a few years back. She had been so happy in the pictures, always smiling. But after the nightmares started she started to change almost physically. Her father had told her that all the happiness that he had seen in her had seemingly left. He told her, as any good father would, that she was still beautiful just as she always had been.
But he also told her that it was never her beauty that he would worry about. It was her emotional state that concerned him. Elexis stared into her deep sapphire eyes, trying to search for that flicker of life that everyone had supposedly seen leave her. She looked away and walked over to her shower. She nearly tore off her robe and threw it in the corner and then proceeded into the shower.
After several minutes she got out, still exhausted. She walked over to her mirror and grabbed the comb and started combing her hair, making it straight then curling it as she got towards the bottom.
She then heard her brother at the door.
“The things from under the bed are coming to get you, oooooo, ha, what a load of ****.” He said as he walked away down the hall outside her bedroom.
She stared again for a moment.
“They not just under mine… they are under everyones…” She muttered…
This is a novel that I'm currently working on, theres more of it located on another forum, but for your convenience I've decided to post it here as well.
The Veteran
9 days to Emergence
Jordan stood at attention; behind him were 65 men of his company, along with troop transports, and a field artillery fire team. His superior, LT. colonel Myers was making rounds, inspecting the troops. He stopped suddenly in front of Jordan.
“Well I’ll be damned if this isn’t one of the finest companies I’ve seen in quite a while.” He said as he looked past Jordan at the troops behind him. “At least not since the war.”
Myers frowned for a moment.
“But I guess I shouldn’t have to tell you about all that should I?”
“No sir, you don’t need to tell me.”
“At ease, tell your men to go about their business, afterwards join me on my office.” Myers said as he saluted and started to walk away.
Jordan returned the salute, turned and dismissed his company. They all scattered in different directions some went with the sergeants and platoon leaders, marching off to go do more training.
The others, mostly the technicians hopped into their vehicles and drove them off to the motor pool on the other side of the base. Before Jordan walked off to proceed to Myers office a young man approached him rapidly, huffing and taking in deep breaths hunching over himself as he neared Jordan.
“Sorry sir, I tried to make it here as soon as can.” The young man said.
“Well is it isn’t private koasu, you know I let you stay at home instead of here at the barracks in the sincerest confidence that you would not be late getting here, especially on inspection days.”
“I know, its just, my sis she’s a little messed up, and I was busy trying to help.”
“As if I would believe that for even a single second, you know me, I don’t ever want to hear excuses, just results, the world doesn’t have time for your bull**** and neither do I, if you are late ever again the fact that you won’t be staying at home anymore will be the least of your problems, am I understood?” Jordan said, coldly.
The man nodded and jogged off towards the platoon leaders that were marching around the base. Jordan shook his head for a second, then dismissed the thought of the private and finally proceeded towards the building that held Myers’s office.
Jordan wasn’t always this much of a hard ass, but the Pendulum wars had changed him. To watch as the nations of Sera horded their resources and then finally resorted to attacking each other like barbaric beasts. In the end he didn’t even understand what the hell it was that he was fighting for. Jordan however at heart was a good soldier, perhaps even one of the greatest soldiers in Sera’s long and sad history. Many times where others would fail he succeeded, never falling when so many others had.
He was also a great commander, caring greatly for the troops under him. He had been in trouble with command several times during the war just because he refused orders to save the lives of his comrades. Once again he still managed to get things done, even after the fact that on numerous occasions he ignored orders. Many people believed that Jordan was somehow different; some even said “not human” due to the incredible feats he had somehow manged to pull off duing the war . Jordan dismissed the thought immediately as he neared the command building.
He opened the glass the doors and strode inside to a waiting reception room. The woman behind the counter nodded to him, letting him know that she knew why he was here, then she went back to typing into the console situated in front of her.
Jordan walked forward down the empty metal hallway until her approached the door that read “LT. Colonel Myers” engraved into brass plating. Jordan entered, not sure what to expect.
“Ah, you’re here, very good, take a seat.” Myers said as he motioned his hand at the chair in front of his desk.
Jordan moved forward and sat in the chair, resting his arms on the armrest.
“I’ve been reviewing your battle records, Captain Howard, and I must say they are most impressive.” Myers said as he retrieved a folder from a cabinet. “Four bronze bravery medals, three silver valor stars, seven red hearts, numerous valor recommendations and even the Seran Cross of Honor, that’s quite a record.” Myers said, finally taking a seat behind the desk.
“I guess you could say so, although it wasn’t under the best circumstances…”
“I agree, war is never a “good” circumstance, but it still stands nonetheless.” Myers said, grabbing more folders from his desk.
“Sir, might I ask…”
Before Jordan could say anymore he was cut off.
“Why I asked for you to come here?”
“Yes sir.”
“Well, you’re being transferred.” Myers said as he sat back in his chair.
“Transferred sir? To where?”
“The military has another job for you, now I have no doubts that you are a great commander, but this comes from the top, I have no say in this.”
Myers frowned.
“Sir?”
“You’re being transferred into a project, I’m not sure exactly what in the hell it is but while I looked at your command record I also looked at your record regarding missions in which you only survived or were the only operating member of your company, seems like command has opted to have you be made a lone wolf out there.”
“Black ops sir?” Jordan asked.
“Seems like it, I don’t know much more than you do at this point I’m afraid.”
Myers scratched the white stubble on his beard and then leaned forward.
“I can see you’re discontent with the idea.”
“Well you could imagine sir, the men, they need me.”
“They need to keep their ass’s down when the **** starts flying, you’ve taught them that job.”
Myers leaned back again and sighed.
“Well you have one last mission with your company, I would get one of the other companies to do it but they’re busy with their own missions right now, so I have no choice.”
Jordan looked back; his interest slightly peeked for a moment.
“What’s the mission?”
“Well, there’s a Imulsion center that needs some checking out in grid twenty-four.” Myers said pulling yet more folders out of his desk. “ I guess there’s been something weird happening, something about technicians disappearing or some such, probably just some lost bastards or someone playing around, but as always don’t treat it like it’s a bug hunt.”
Jordan looked at the file and opened it, looking at plans to the facility and already mentally mapping it out.
“Could be terrorists?” Jordan suggested.
“Ha, not likely we haven’t had any attacks recently, but I suppose your right, take whatever gear you need, just try not to scare the **** out of the technicians while you’re there.” Myers said as he rose from his chair.
Jordan followed suit and rose as well, already heading for the door to go prepare for the briefing.
“Captain Howard, as always, good luck out there.”
“Luck’s never the problem its making sure it doesn’t leave you when you need it….” Jordan said as he closed shut the door.
Chapter 2, by the way some of the next few chapters might have to be split into 2 parts due to the word limit in posts.
Ghost Facility
9 Days to Emergence
Jordan leaned forward as he viewed the massive Imulsion facility before him through the front window of the transport. Grid 24 was not much to look at in itself, no one lived out here as it was a desolate and barren wasteland, a place left over from the war. The vehicle stopped at the gates entering the facility. The trucks waited for several moments.
Jordan disembarked from the transport, his armor rustling as it grinded against the truck. He moved up to the gatehouse in front after realizing that no one was opening the gates. Several soldiers hopped off the truck to join Jordan as well. One of the soldiers, Quinlan, checked the gatehouse, searching for someone.
“Sir, I got nothing back here.” Quinlan said as he came out from the gatehouse.
“Nothing? Any signs of a struggle or anything?” Jordan questioned.
“Nothing… sir.” Quinlan replied.
Jordan paused for a moment, trying to ascertain what to do next. After he thought about it for a moment he clicked the comm link on his helmet.
“Okay, everyone sit tight, were gonna open the gates.” Jordan said over the channel.
“Roger.” Said one of the drivers, complying with the order.
Jordan entered the gatehouse, looking for the controls to the gate. He quickly found it and punched on it with his armored glove, nearly breaking the button. Before he left to join the others though he noticed a warning sign flaring on the console, the view screen was scrambled so he couldn’t tell what it said. He dismissed it though, as he already had the feeling that something was wrong either way regardless of the warning sign.
Outside the gates opened and Jordan ran up beside the trucks and grabbed onto the side as the trucks slowly moved their way into the complex. After they came to the front entrance the soldiers instantly got to it and hopped out of the transports.
“Alright I want everyone on alert, there might not be anything wrong with this place, but if there is I don’t want anyone caught off guard. Also, there are civi’s in the area, so check your aim.” Jordan told the troops. “Quinlan, Sterals, Jackson, you’re with me.” Jordan said, point at the three soldiers.
The troops dispersed into squads heading off in different directions. Jordan’s squad approached the doorway leading into the main entrance. His squad entered the lobby inside. Jordan aimed his gun carefully, expecting to see someone, anyone that could be a threat. He crouched as he moved forward, then signaled with his hand to have everyone else move in behind him. The reception desk ahead of him was empty. Jordan moved up in front of it and then pushed himself over the desk.
He crashed down on the other side making a heavy clunk sound as his armor fell heavily against the marble flooring. He looked around, realizing there was no one here. He rose to his feet.
“Quinlan, get over here.” Jordan ordered.
Quinlan moved forward, approaching Jordan from behind.
“See that console there?” Jordan said as he pointed at it, keeping his weapon firmly aimed at the door leading to the next room.
“Yeah, what about it?” Quinlan asked.
“See if you can get some security images from it, let’s see what happened here.” Jordan suggested.
“Well, its not a security console.” Quinlan told Jordan.
Jordan looked back at him for a moment, a stern look creasing his face.
“But t what the hell, I can try.” Quinlan said as he directed his attention at the console.
The squad waited for several minutes. Quinlan was busy at the console when he spoke.
“Damnit! I had it, but it locked me out of the system.” Quinlan said as he banged on the console.
“Alright, let me guess we need to go the security room?” Jordan asked.
“That’d be right sir, from there I can open the necessary files to access the security recordings.” Quinlan told him.
“Alright, to the security station then.” Jordan ordered as he approached the door leading into the rest of the facility.
The squad moved through the hallways and winding corridors, making their way to the security station. The entire time they saw the same thing had observed everywhere. There was no one here, no sign of a battle or struggle, no bodies, or at least blood stains. Jordan had a bad feeling about the whole thing, but he had no evidence to go on. The fact that there were no bodies was good, but at the same time bad also. The fact that there was none meant that if there was terrorist that they may have taken hostages. The bad part was exactly that, now Jordan might have hostage crisis one his hands.
They quickly found the security room, as Jordan had remembered the schematics of at least the upper levels of the facility.
Inside they found the room neat and quite, just like the rest of the facility. Quinlan quickly got to work accessing consoles and bringing up any files he could. Jordan stood with his arms crossed looking out a window towards a large metal door that went deeper into the facility. He waited impatiently, as it took several minutes for the records to be brought up. Jackson had divided his attention however.
“Cap.” Jackson said as he motioned for him to come over to where he was.
Jackson pointed at the small gun rack, it was empty.
“Heh, why the hell would you need a gun in a place like this?” Sterals asked.
“Well, just in case something screwy happens?” Jackson suggested.
“Anything more screwy than what’s happening now?” Sterals shot back.
Jackson looked disturbed by the comment, almost angry. Sterals and Jackson didn’t exactly get along; they use to be friends before they entered the military but when Jackson swiftly got a promoted the two slowly drifted away from each other.
“Ok, so the guns are missing? Why are there no signs of a battle?” Jordan said to both of the soldiers.
Jordan shook his head, and pulled the comm. link up to his mouth.
“Squad Charlie, report?” Jordan said clearly into the comm.
“This is Synders, all clear here, it’s a **** ghost facility, and we’ve seen nothing, not even bullet holes or blood.” He answered back.
“Same here, we got nothing, were tying to check the security records right now.” Jordan told him.
“Orders sir?” Synders asked.
“Continue searching.” Jordan ordered.
“Copy that, over and out.” Synders said as he deactivated his comm. link.
“Sir, I got nothing on the cameras.” Quinlan said as he backed away from the console. “They only go so far back.”
“Any signs of people?” Jordan asked.
“Well, no, at least not on any of the upper levels, the two systems aren’t linked I guess.” Quinlan answered.
Jordan sighed for a moment then continued looking at the console.
“Oh ho, what’s this?” Jackson said as he leaned in close to one of the camera view screens.
Jordan moved closer, watching the screen that Jackson was watching. On the screen he saw a body being dragged into the darkness of the then opened doors that were now closed. Then something large suddenly ran across the screen. Jordan was unable to tell what it was as it only passed for a fraction of a second. He stood, puzzled.
“Well, there’s someone, that count?” Sterals said, sarcastically
“We have audio?” Jordan asked.
“Negative sir, a lot of the files are corrupted.” Quinlan replied.
Suddenly the screen cut out and turned black.
“Whoa, what the hell?” Jackson said abruptly.
“That’s odd” Jordan said.
Quinlan walked back over to the console.
“Says it stopped functioning after five pm.”
“That is strange, ok well I’m kicking it up a notch I'm gonna tell the other squads to watch thier backs, something is definitely wrong here.” Jordan said as he retrieved the comm. link from his helmet. But before he could say anything the comm. came to life.
“This is Bravo squad, Captain can you read? Sergeant Dresin asked.
“Copy, what is it?” Jordan asked.
“Well, its hard to describe, I think you better just come and look for yourself. Were in sub-level basement 2A.” Dresin replied.
“Copy, I’m on my way.” He clicked the comm. link off and motioned his hand to the others.
“Alright lets pack it up.” Jordan ordered.
The squad immediately moved out and headed for the squad Bravo’s position. They headed for a staircase and descended several flights of stairs into sub-level 2A.
“Were coming up on their position sir.” Jackson told Jordan.
Jordan nodded and they made there way to a small storage area in the back of the lower level. They approached a door that was slightly open. Jordan ran up beside it and tapped his armored gauntlet against the metal doors.
“Alpha team?” Dresin asked.
“Correct.” Jordan replied.
“Alright, you’re clear.”
Jordan entered the room, inside was a sheer mess; the room was covered with a sticky red substance and in the faint light that was in the room Jordan could see 4 large piles of rotting corpses, technicians laid over each other, some were even hanging from the ceiling.
“My god…” Jackson said.
“Yeah, there is really something wrong with this place.” Jordan said to himself.
Dresin approached Jordan.
“Yeah, we stumbled along this storage area back here as we were about to make out way down into the cave systems below.” He said as he looked away from the horrific sight.
“Technicians?” Jordan questioned.
“Yeah, they’re wearing the uniforms, guess this means its not terrorist, huh?” Dresin asked.
“So what? Now we got a lunatic that skins people?” one of the soldiers from Bravo squad asked.
“Don’t know, but we should report back, send a team further into the cave system, try checking the pump area, make sure the Imulsion pump won’t over-pressurize or something.” Jordan suggested.
“Already ran across Fox squad, they’re on it.” Dresin replied, clearly having things in hand.
“Alright good work, let’s leave here for now and…”
Before Jordan could say anymore Jackson, who was standing near the door motioned his hand to stop everyone from making noise. Everyone reached for their guns preparing themselves. Both squads exited the room, forming a line of fire as the two squads aimed their weapons down a long and dark corridor. The sounds became louder, denoting that whatever it was, was getting closer.
“Hold your fire, something is coming.” Jordan said as he too took aim.
There's several chapters that are like this, lol, so don't freak out if you see it cut off just go down one post and the next part should be there.
Initial Contact
8 days to Emergence
Jordan took aim down the dark corridor; the only light there was came off the assault rifles that the troops were holding tightly gripped in their hands. Jordan couldn’t describe the sound, it sounded like someone walking, but the footsteps sounded much too heavy to be a human. Suddenly something broke from the darkness, much to Jordan’s surprise the figure was human. The man was wearing a white lab coat and was covered in blood. The man stumbled forward desperately trying to reach the line of troopers.
“Hold your fire!” Jordan yelled.
The man stumbled closer; Jordan tried to listen to what the man was saying.
“Get out of here!” The man finally managed to yell.
No sooner had he yelled something large and ominous appeared behind him. The man tried to yell something again but the creature in the darkness drove razor sharp talons through the man’s chest, skewering him. The man struggled for a moment then slumped, hanging in mid air, almost as if nothing was holding him up.
Jordan made a split second decision, and then finally figured out what to do.
“Open fire!”
The line of soldiers opened fire on the large creature. The rounds had apparently found their mark because the creature let out a mighty roar as if in pain. However, it did not stop it, the large creature charged the line of soldiers throwing the limp body from its hands as it did. Jordan could barely get a glimpse of it due to the fact that the only light was coming from the assault rifles.
Jordan could however see a vague outline of the figure; he took aim and fired controlled and accurate bursts of bullets into the creature. The creature grabbed at a soldier from Bravo team and threw him flying across the room smashing against the wall.
“Retreat! Back upstairs now!” Jordan screamed as the creature began killing off members of Bravo squad.
The soldiers moved quickly retreating back towards the stairwell that led to the upper levels, firing their guns franticly as they made their way to the stairwell. Jordan was the last one to try to get up the stairs, the creature however decided to pursue the group of soldiers. In the dim light that came from the stairs Jordan could finally see the actual creature itself. It was large standing at least 12 ft tall. I
t odd human face was distorted and twisted, obviously the creature was pissed. Its body was covered in bone white chitnin armor with lines of flesh where the armor broke, mainly at joints to allow for movement. It loomed over Jordan getting ready to pound him into dust. Jordan took quick aim and fired straight at the creatures face, causing the chitinous armor in and around its face to splinter and crack, revealing the soft flesh underneath. The creature howled as the shots tore into its face causing it to double back clutching its massive hands across its face.
Jordan wasted no time using the opportunity to retreat along with his comrades. He ran for the steps, as he looked back he could see several more figures appear from the darkness. They were smaller, but much quicker, they stood slightly taller than a human but they closed the distance between much quicker then the monstrosity that had now backed off. Jordan turned and fired, the bullets dropped several of them but there were too many. Jordan tore a grenade off from his magnetized belt on his armor, and threw it at the horde that was rapidly getting closer. A sudden bang went off and the creatures dropped as bits of shrapnel tore into them. They tumbled and rolled but more appeared to take their place.
“They won’t stop coming! Get your ass back up here!” Jackson yelled motioning his hand towards his body.
Jordan dropped an empty magazine out onto the ground and ran for the staircase, reloading as he went. Jackson was ahead at the bottom firing to cover Jordan. Both of them turned and fired as they ran up the flight of steps. Several of the creatures charged at the two, they were greeted by bursts of fire from the assault rifles, which instantly dropped them. Jackson tapped Jordan on the shoulder, Jordan then moved up the next flight.
Jackson tore a larger more concentrated charge of explosives off of him then hocked it into the stairwell. Jackson’s intention had been to seal off the stairwell, but the resulting explosion wasn’t enough to destroy the staircase. Instead the large creature had returned and was now once again pursuing them. Most of the smaller ones were now dead, but the large one seemed angrier than ever.
It let out a mighty roar; Jordan and Jackson immediately ran, climbing the staircase as fast as they could, the large creature in pursuit. As Jackson reached the top he could see the rest of Bravo squad and Sterals resting.
“****! Go go go go!” Jackson yelled, waving his hands at the group.
The group immediately picked themselves up and ran past several large doors that led back in the main section of the facility. Jordan followed after them, reaching the top of the stairs, the massive creature only a few yards behind. Jackson ran towards the controls for the door, only to meet Quinlan, already at the panel.
“What are you waiting for close it!” Jackson yelled.
“I’m not gonna lock the captain in there!” Quinlan yelled back.
Jordan ran as fast as he could twisting and firing as he desperately tried to reach the doors. He immediately saw Quinlan and Jackson by the door and knew what they were going to do.
“Man its getting closer.” Jackson said nervously.
“Not yet.” Quinlan said waiting for the right moment.
“Man you’re gonna get us killed.”
“I said not yet!”
Jordan dove for the doors falling onto his chest, his armor sparked and grinded against the metal flooring as he slid past the doors.
“Close it! Close it now!” He yelled.
Quinlan smashed the button on the door. The doors began to close rapidly; the creature however had reached the doors already but barely. The upper half of its body was wedged in the door, it tried grabbing at Jordan’s but it couldn’t quite reach him. It pulled itself forward a little more and managed to finally grab Jordan by the leg. The door whined and buzzed as the servo’s and gears started to grind from the obstruction. However, the grip on Jordan’s leg would not loosen. Jordan turned onto his back and took aim at the creatures face.
“Eat **** and die!” Jordan yelled as he let loose a volley of fire into the creatures face.
The final bits of chitnin shattered and the bullets tore out the creatures left eye. The grip on Jordan’s leg was suddenly lifted as the creature jerked back. The creature then finally retreated and pulled itself out of the door screaming as it went. Sterals was banged back against the wall on the floor, holding his gun at the door as it slowly started to close once more. He released his aim and let the gun fall into his lap. Suddenly an arm appeared in the doorway. Several loud shots rang out and came towards Sterals. The shots punched into the concrete wall near Sterals sending plumes of dust into the air.
“****! Did that thing just freaking shoot at me!?” Sterals said as he rapidly searched his body for wounds.
He was relieved to find none. He looked up and saw how close the shots were, a hole in the wall only a few inches from his head marked where one of the shots had hit.
“Lucky bastard.” Jackson said as he shook his head.
“Man what in the hell are those things?” Dresin asked.
“I don’t know.” Jordan said as he picked himself off the ground. “But they sure as hell aren’t terrorists.”
“Are they the ones that killed everyone here?”
“Looks like it… Dresin, get in contact with the other squads, I want to know what the hell’s going on with the them.” Jordan dropped another empty magazine to the floor and popped in a fresh one. “I want to know if they’ve seen anything like this, and if they haven’t tell them to watch themselves, were getting the hell out of here, I don’t know what the hell were dealing with.”
“I’m on it.” Dresin said as he walked away.
Jordan rubbed his neck, pondering about what had just happened.
“You ok, sir?” Quinlan asked as he walked over to Jordan.
“Yeah, I think so, any idea what the hell that thing was?”
“Not sure any more than you are.”
There was a moment of silence then Quinlan spoke again.
“But it seems like they came from underground.” Quinlan looked back at the doors that led back into the lower levels. “These Imulsion facilities have tons of caverns and passageways where they extract the resource from.”
“So what you’re saying is they were already here, like before us?” Jordan asked.
“I don’t know… there’s not much evidence…”
“Alright, well let’s pick ourselves back up and get moving, are they sealed down there?”
“As far as I know, I checked the security and all the doors to the lower levels are locked off.”
“Well that’s good, no more surprises?”
“I can’t say we have no idea what those things are capable of.”
“Agreed, alright, well let’s get packed up and move out, I don’t want to stick around to see if those damned things can knock down a door.” Jordan said grimly.
In the Darkness They Wait
7 Days to Emergence
Jordan walked ahead slowly, retracing his steps that he had used to enter the building. He stopped for a moment at an entranceway that lead back into the security room. He looked back at the squad following behind him.
“Dresin, any word on the other squads yet?” He said, twisting himself to face the squad.
“I got nothing… yet, I’ll keep trying.” Dresin answered back.
Jordan said nothing for a moment, then spoke again.
“Dresin, forget the reporting in, send out a general alert, were pulling out.”
“Yes sir, I’ll send out the message.”
“Alright now before we move out, Quinlan is there any files you need to get out of the security records?”
“Yes, I can get of the footage of the crea…”
Before Quinlan could say anything more a large sound resonated from lower levels. A few seconds later the place shook, and the lights dimmed, then shut off completely.
“Ah ****…” Jackson said.
“What just happened?” Jordan asked as he flicked the flashlight on his assault rife on.
“I’m not sure sir, but the powers off.” Sterals said as he too flicked his flashlight on.
“Tell me something I don’t know already.”
“Just adding my observations sir.”
“Well I definitely can’t get to the security recordings now…” Quinlan added.
The rest of the squad turned on their flashlights as well, however, a couple of the soldiers found to their dismay that their lights didn’t work. Dresin was among them.
“****, sir, I think that thing back there cracked my light somehow.”
“Alright, Sterals check the security office for some flashlights, they must have kept flashlights in there for times like these.” Jordan ordered.
Sterals walked off into the security office to carry out his orders, then returned a few minutes later holding several sticks in his hands.
“Sir, I got no flashlights, the security personnel must have taken them with when they went to the lower levels” Sterals then looked at the sticks in his hands. “But I found these, guess they’re illumination sticks, should work.”
“Alright hand them out to people who need them, and give me one.”
Sterals handed Jordan an illumination stick then continued to pass out the others.
“Alright, I’m gonna check out the corridor ahead, you guys sit tight till I get back.”
“Yes sir.” They all said in unison.
Jordan picked his gun up and made his way down the corridor, his gun firmly aimed ahead of him at all times. As he neared the entrance to the main lobby, he noticed something wasn’t right. He couldn’t see very well, so he cracked the stick against his knee. The stick brought itself to life and glowed neon blue. Jordan then figured out what was wrong. In front of him a massive blast door blocked where the entrance to main lobby should have been.
“Damnit…” Jordan muttered to himself.
Jordan turned to face back down the hallway.
“Quinlan, get down here, we have a problem!” Jordan yelled.
Moments later Quinlan came running.
“What is it Cap?” He asked.
“This blast door, I didn’t see it on the way in.”
“****, I was afraid of this.” Quinlan said as he looked at the door.
“What?”
“The power outage must have brought the whole security system down.”
“Meaning?”
“Well, sir, were stuck in here.” Quinlan said he looked more closely at the door.
Jordan thought for a moment and scratched at his chin.
“Can we blow the door?” Jordan asked as he pulled a charge off his armor.
“You know normally I would say no, but this door looks like it might cave if we have enough.” Quinlan said as he considered the idea.
“Alright I’ll go get all I can from the men, here’s my charges.” Jordan said as he handed him several large concentrated charges.
* * * * *
Private Estar moved forward into the dark, with Private Telson following behind. He neared the door that was just closed when the creature had attacked earlier.
“What the hell are we doing back here? Cap told us to stay put.” Telson asked.
“Man did you see that thing?” Estar replied.
“Of course I saw it, thing was gonna rip Cap to pieces, what kind of dumbass question is that?” Telson said as he looked around the room that they were in only minutes ago. “So what exactly are we here for?”
“I saw chucks of that things armor fly off, you know how much that could sell it for? I could turn it into the university for study and quit this ****ty job.”
“That’s a real stupid ass reason, especially what if the rest of the squad finds out we’ve broken off and the Cap finds out.”
“Ha, well if I find this piece of armor then I can tell Cap to shove it!”
Estar looked all over the ground, searching for the largest piece of chitnin that he could find. He couldn’t see very well so he cracked one of the illumination sticks and threw it onto the ground. After he searched for several moments he reached down and picked up a large fragment of the creatures armor.
“Ya, this is it, ok let’s go.”
Estar walked away from the door, shoving the armor fragment into his satchel when he heard sounds coming from the door.
“What the hell is that?” Telson asked, as he brought up his gun.
Suddenly sparks came from the door and fire spewed from the door in a perfect line.
“There’s no way…” Estar said as he watched the door be cut.
“Maybe its Fox squad?” Telson said as he started to panic.
Without warning the door was blown inward, slamming the door onto the ground. For a moment nothing entered, there was only darkness, then several flashes of light came from the dark. Estar felt a sharp pain rip through his shoulder, as he reached for the sudden intrusion of pain, another shot tore through his leg, nearly severing it. Estar limped forward as several more shot entered his torso.
He fell forward, bleeding out onto the cold metal floor.
Before Telson could even say anything bullets punched into his leg simultaneously. Telson fell over backwards, landing hard on the metal floor. He desperately gasped for air as he reached for his assault rifle. His fingers started to go numb as he tried to grip the handle. However, a sharp pain struck his senses again as a foot came down his hand.
Telson yelled in pain. He looked up as shock started to set in, he looked straight into the eyes of one of the creatures, it pale gnarled face illuminated by the neon blue glow of the illumination stick. The last visions Telson had was of the creatures face as it poured with the sense of hatred for this pathetic creature that laid before it. The creature brought its gun up to Telson’s head then a final shot rang out and then there was only darkness.
* * * * *
“Where the hell did those shots come from?” Dresin called out.
“I don’t know sir, but Private Estar and Telson are missing.” One of the members of Bravo squad answered back.
Suddenly a bullet caught the trooper in the head as he slumped forward onto the ground, lifeless.
“Take cover!” Dresin screeched.
The squad immediately took cover behind the various furniture and cargo boxes that littered the hallway, firing at the darkness down the hall where the bullet had come from. By the time everyone had taken cover the squad was already pinned, exchanging fire with the unknown attackers. Jordan arrived only to be pelted with several rounds that dinged off his armor, sending Jordan diving for cover.
“What the hell!?” Jordan yelled.
“Sir they opened fire on us, they do have weapons!” Dresin yelled as he let lose a burst of rounds from his gun.
“I can see that!”
Jordan rolled out for cover on this stomach then fired an entire magazine of ammo into the darkness down the hall. He rolled back into to cover and motioned his hand to Dresin.
“Throw a illumination stick down the hall, we need to see them to kill them!”
Dresin nodded and grabbed a stick from his belt, cracked it and hocked it down the hall. The light illuminated nearly 30 of the hissing and growling creatures as they too returned volleys of fire at the pinned squad.
“Dresin, I need all the explosives you have.”
A shot pinged off the wall near Jordan’s head as he narrowly avoided it.
“All of it?” Dresin said as he pulled a charge out from his satchel.
“Anything you don’t need.”
Dresin returned fire from shots that nearly peppered him, then whistled at a group of soldiers in front of him.
“Your explosives, we need them now!”
The soldiers nodded pulling their charges from their satchels and throwing them at Dresin. Dresin looked at them and then handed them to Jordan.
“This will do right?” Dresin asked once again firing off a burst of rounds.
“Only one way to find out.” Jordan said he picked himself off the floor and ran back towards the hall containing the blast doors.
Jordan ran up next to Quinlan who was already setting charges.
“The hell is all that firing?” He asked.
“Looks like they found out how to kick down doors…” Jordan said as he handed the explosives to Quinlan. “And it looks like were gonna kick down ours.”
The two soldiers ran back down the hall and used a sofa for cover. A massive explosion rocked the complex as the charges did their work and blew the blast door straight out of the wall. Slamming it against the marble flooring of the main lobby, shredding the marble into chunks.
“Alright I’m going back to sound the retreat, you go on ahead and get the trucks ready to get us the hell out of here.” Jordan ordered Quinlan.
“Yes sir!” Quinlan said as he dashed forward into the lobby and out the front doors.
Jordan ran back to the hall where the beleaguered troops were still fighting. He ran over and squatted next to Dresin who was still holding the line.
“Were getting the hell out of here, get your men moving!” Jordan said as he fired his assault rifle into the face of one of the creatures.
“Troopers lets move out!” Dresin yelled.
The squad moved out covering each other as they moved back down the hall. The creatures of course took the ground that the squad had formally been in and started firing from those positions. Jordan was the last one out, as always. He fired several bursts, which caught four of the creatures in the side, killing them. He too then retreated along with his comrades.
The creatures surged forward pursuing Jordan as he made his way out into the lobby. His heavy armored boots pounded over the metal blast door that lay smashed into the floor. The creatures once again in hot pursuit, as Jordan neared the doors he stood in front of them, the light flowing through them. The creatures seemed reluctant to follow him, but some of the more confident ones tried to charge Jordan. He clicked a switch on his gun and activated the grenade launcher that was mounted on the assault rifle. He fired several grenades into the pillars that held up the ceiling of the lobby, causing them to crumble. Jordan dove away from the crumbling lobby as hard chunks of concrete fell into the lobby as it collapsed.
Dust and chunks of debris flew out of the entrance, throwing Jordan clear of the building. After a few moments of lying on the ground a pair of boots appeared in front of Jordan’s face.
“You alright Cap?” Jackson asked as he helped pick Jordan off the ground.
“Looks like it.” Jordan replied as he checked himself for wounds.
“Hell of a mission huh?”
“Yeah…”
“More like the mission was Fubar.” Dresin said as he approached the two soldiers.
Jordan rubbed his neck with one hand and brushed the dust from his face with the other.
“How many?” He asked.
“Thirty-five sir…” Dresin looked at the trucks as they loaded the battered troops into the vehicles. “All of the squads have taken a beating, but most got the message to pull out, except fox squad, we haven’t heard anything from them since then went further into the tunnels.”
“****, it may sound heartless but I don’t think they made it…”
“I agree sir, this is something way beyond just us, we’d need a full battalion at least to lock this place down and seeing how we don’t even know what exactly were dealing with…”
Jordan cut him off.
“Let’s just load everyone into the trucks and get the hell out of here.”
“Already done sir, were ready to move back to base.”
Dresin nodded and walked away loading himself onto the trucks. Quinlan followed behind him. Jordan strode up to the side of the command truck and pulled himself into it. As he got inside he rested his head on the seat, as he cocked his head and looked at the Imulsion facility as they started to drive away. So much had just happened within such a short space of time, worst yet he didn’t know what to make of it. Jordan closed his eyes to rest, knowing that something big was on the horizon, he wasn’t sure what exactly it was, but he knew it was going to be big.
Debriefing
3 Days to Emergence
Jordan sat in the debriefing room, waiting for the arrival of his superior LT. Colonel Myers. The room itself was nothing much to look at, it was small, and felt like an interrogation room more than anything. It had already been several days since he had got back from the mission, after he reported on what had transpired the commanders back at the base didn’t know what to say. Several deduced that that Jordan may have been afflicted by some unknown effect of Imulsion, but all of the squads had witnessed the same thing. On top of that thirty-five men were now missing, along with all of the facilities technicians.
No one outside of Jordan’s company knew anything and for four days they tried to find out about the mission. Jordan thought long and hard about what the next course of action, he knew that Myers would believe him, but as for the others he had no idea. His only hope was that Myers convinced the others that the words Jordan had said were true.
Jordan sat back in his chair before his concentration was broken when Myers entered the room with two other people following behind, one of them was a man, he was defiantly older than Jordan as he could see the man was already balding, putting him roughly in his late fifties to mid sixties. The other person however, was a woman; she was much younger than the man. Her hair was a vibrant blonde, her figure slim and graceful, if it weren’t for the lab coat she was wearing and the glasses that sat neatly off of the end of her nose, someone could easily mistake her for a model of some sort. Myers closed the door behind them and the three sat around the table in the room.
“Captain Jordan, this is Dr. Gehlan.” Myers said as he pointed at the man.
“And this is Dr. Selene.” He said, pointing at the woman.
Jordan looked at the two for a moment, then looked at the woman.
“Let me guess you’re the shrink?” Jordan said to her.
“Actually I’m a chemical and biological specialist, Captain Howard.” She replied, gracefully.
“Actually I would be the shrink.” Dr. Gehlan said as he looked over at Jordan.
“These people just want to ask you a few questions.” Myers told Jordan.
“Guess my word wasn’t enough?” Jordan leaned back in his chair. “Alright, shoot.”
“Ok, well, we are here cause we’ve found evidence that you may have been adversely effected by either a unknown contagion such as a side effect of Imulsion, or perhaps even combat fatigue…” Dr. Gehlan said as he unfolded a folder onto the desk.
“But we have also have factual evidence that account for some of the events you have described.” Dr. Selene said as she mimicked Gehlan by pulling out a folder. “Firstly, we have thirty-five men missing, as well as the technicians at the facility, also we have hacked into the facility’s security system, most of the data is corrupted but it did show us that facility went into lock down at around the time that you described.”
“You sent someone back in? Even after I told you what happened?” Jordan asked.
“Well, no, there's a team at the facility right now. The destruction that you did to the main lobby is taking us a while to clear out and the other entrances of the facility have been completely locked off by blast doors, which unlike the one you blew open, can’t be.” Dr. Selene pushed her glasses up onto her nose a little more. “Cutting through them is taking a long time, so naturally were looking to you and your men for answers in the mean time.” She leaned forward, crossing her arms across the desk.“Can you please tell me what happened?”
“Haven’t you read my report?”
“Yes, but I’d like to hear it straight from you.”
Jordan leaned back even further, bracing his leg up against the desk.
“Very well… ok, we arrived at the facility, its was a ghost town, nothing was there, no sign of the technicians or anyone, there was also no sign of a struggle, no blast holes or bullet holes, no blood, it looked the place was just left untouched. We checked the security recordings, got nothing, other than something unidentifiable running past the screen, and one of the members of my squad, Jackson, noticed a body being dragged off, were not sure where to, nor could we see what was doing it.”
Both doctors began taking notes.
“After that I got a message from Bravo squad saying that they had found something on sub-level 2A, we got down there and found the technicians.”
“Now you mentioned that they were all dead in the report, could you describe the manner in which they were killed?” Dr. Selene asked.
Jordan closed his eyes for a second, trying to remember the horrid place. He had tried to forget it, but it was a horrific sight and was not easily forgotten.
“Some of the bodies were flayed, not completely but enough for them to bleed all over the place cause the room was covered in blood, others were torn, and there were several hanging from the ceiling I think, can’t remember too well, cause the next thing I know, Jackson silences us and we headed out to the main hall that lead into the caves under the facility. We thought there was trouble coming when it only turned out to be a scared technician, he goes down, this thing just ripped right through him, I couldn’t see it well, but it was pissed, it charged the squad, I ordered the retreat we got back upstairs and managed to close a door on it… literally, after I shot the thing in the face it backed off.”
Jordan opened his eyes again and looked at Dr. Selene.
“We got ready to head out and on our way back the power goes, place locks down, and then were in the dark, and our way out is blocked, we tried to get explosives to blow the door but before I could even get back, the door we had closed was opened somehow by those things. At which point we found out that they had weapons… and that there was a lot of them. We finally managed to blow the door, then when I found out that they were trying to pursue us, I blew the supports in the main lobby to try and stop them.”
Jordan let out a sigh.
“And then that’s it, we headed back, I reported, I waited around, and now I’m here.” Jordan said as he dropped his leg from the table.
“What can you tell me about the creatures?”
“Well, they’re intelligent, they have language but its garbled and I can’t understand them at all. They have weapons, at least rivaling ours, one of the guys that I saw got hit, took a chuck clean out of him, other than that I don’t know very much other than that they are viscious and hostile, and there seems to be different types of them.”
Jordan scratched his head trying to remember the events.
“Quinlan mentioned that the creatures looked like they came from underground.”
“Who is Quinlan?” Dr. Gehlan asked as he leaned forward.
“He’s a soldier in my company, smart as hell too, probably would be one of you guys in lab coats if he weren’t here in the military. He’s very knowledgeable about this stuff, he might know more than me about the creatures; I’m guessing he saw them too. The creatures though, they looked like they disliked sunlight, cause when the main lobby door was open, they seemed hesitant to try and follow me. Course then I blew the pylons.”
Jordan grabbed at his forehead, rubbing it.
“And that’s it.” He said.
Dr. Selene and Gehlan finished their notes and closed their folders, tucking the sheets neatly into them. They all got up from their seats and shook each other’s hands.
“I would like to run some tests if you don’t mind?” Dr. Selene asked as she reached for something in her coat pocket.
“Yeah sure.” Jordan replied.
She handed him a small card.
“My lab is down at the university, when you get the chance I’d like you to meet me there and we can start the tests.”
“Huh? What kind of tests?” Jordan asked as he glanced at the card.
“Nice tests.” She replied, smiling.
“Alright, well assuming I can get out of here I’ll drop by.”
Jordan sat back down at the table and closed his eyes. Both Myers and Dr. Gehlen exited the room, along with Dr. Selene. Myers said farewell to Dr. Selene as she left then turned to Dr. Gehlen.
“Well?” Myers asked.
“You want to know if he’s crazy?”
Dr. Gehlen looked at his folder in his hand for a second then rose his head back to meet Myers.
“I’ve heard all the accounts of the soldiers, either they are all being affected by some kind of contamination, which by the way we have failed to pick up if there is any, I think its safe to say that they are not crazy.”
“So what, that means we’ve got monsters hiding in the basement of the planet?”
“It doesn’t mean anything… yet, just means that you don’t have to worry about someone snapping and doing something crazy.”
Myers blew out some held in air.
“Alright so its ok to let these boys off for a few days, correct?”
“I would keep tabs on them, but yes I’d think it’d be for the best to relieve some of the stress.”
“Alright, well thank you doctor.” Myers said as he shook his hand.
The doctor left and Myers reentered the room to talk to Jordan.
* * * *
Dr. Jandice Selene returned to her office, tired, having evaluated all of the troops and hearing their stories. Something worried her, the fact that all of the stories matched, with the exception of the squad members who weren’t with Captain Howard. They had their own tales of battling with an unknown enemy. Worst yet thirty-five men were missing and some one hundred technicians and there were no bodies to be found. To make matters worse the progress of getting back into the facility was going painfully slow. Jandice sat back in her seat taking off her glasses and setting them neatly on the desk. She laid her head back and rested for a moment, however her attempt at rest was disrupted suddenly when the phone on her desk rang. She picked it up.
“Dr. Selene speaking.” She said.
“Dr. Selene, the research team and the engineers, they’re gone we... I mean I can’t find them.” The voice on the other line told her.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I just went away for a moment to come call you, we’ve made it through the lobby, I couldn’t ring you so I came back to tell them to wait and they were gone.”
“Maybe they’re already inside, try checking.”
“We weren’t supposed to enter until we got word from you… worse yet there’s blood where the team was working.”
“Maybe someone was injured?”
The phone crackled with static. Jandice could barely make out the words.
“The… hell… ground is moving… oh… god!”
The line went dead.
The Calm Before the Storm
0 Days to Emergence
Elexis walked through the park under the rising sun of morning. She was on her way to the university. After she kept having the repeating nightmares she finally decided to get help. She was about to pick up the phone and call a regular doctor when she suddenly remembered her old high school teacher, Miss Jandice Selene, whom had moved on from teaching high school, to doing research at the university. She didn’t necessarily specialize in psychiatry but she did specialize in chemicals and biology. Perhaps she could help her out by understanding what may have been causing the dreams.
Elexis stopped for a moment and decided to rest underneath a giant stone gazebo in a park, only a few blocks away from the university. Inside the gazebo there was not much, a couple of benches, several people already had taken up spots and were now doing random things such as reading the newspaper or checking things on their palm-pilots. Elexis walked into the area inside and walked over a vending machine that had been put up. She pulled some change from her pocket and pressed them into the machine. A small can of soda popped out, she grabbed it and made her way out of the gazebo. She opened the can and gulped down the soda, not even taking time to notice the stunning beauty of the cherry blossom trees as their petals slowly feel off the tree and floated to the ground.
She quickly downed the rest of the soda then ditched the can into a nearby trashcan. She made her way out of the area and back onto the street that lead to the university. She fumbled with some left over change as she walked up the street, trying to feed it all back into her pocket. A stray coin then broke from her grip and fell to the ground rolling as it smacked the pavement. Elexis chased after it trying to catch it as it rolled across the ground. Eventually it rolled of into a drain on the side of the street. It dropped and she could hear the small coin drop into the water below. As she picked herself up from trying to catch the coin, she noticed something. Something was staring at her, down below in the grate she could see a set of sickly yellow glowing eyes and she could hear it breathing heavily.

Jordan felt uncomfortable having several wires sticking out of his body as he laid on a metal table. But according to Dr. Selene they were needed to test his chemical composition in his body. He didn’t exactly know what to expect from the tests that she was running, but so far there wasn’t anything too weird. She stood behind a small glass station that had a console wired into it. She kept a steady reading on his vital signs, looking for anything out of the ordinary. After several moments she paused, then pulled a peice of paper out of a printer.
She looked at it, intrigued. Then she looked back up at Jordan.
“Ok, the tests are done you can get up now.” She said as she walked over to him. “And we can get these wires pulled out of you.”
She yanked them out carefully then grabbed his shirt off a near by chair and tossed it to him.
“So, what’s wrong with me?” Jordan asked.
“Nothing, in fact you’re in peak condition and what I found is truly amazing.”
“What’s exactly amazing?”
“Well, normal people have only a certain percentage of minerals and such in their bodies, this is everything from calcium to vitamin A, B,C etc.”
She looked back at the print out.
“You on the other hand have increased levels of all these, and its at all natural, nothing shows towards steroids or anything, on top of that your bodies resilience to things are heightened, everything from your immune system to your bones for instance are hardened, this is something that goes beyond just sheer fitness.”
“Wonderful, so let me guess cause of this there’s gonna be further tests?”
“Well, as long as you’re willing to undergo them.”
Jordan sighed for a moment and looked around the room. He put his shirt back on. Then turned back to Dr. Selene.
“Ok I’ll agree to the rest of the tests.”
“Wonderful, I can’t start them right now as I don’t have the necessary equipment, but I should be able to have them started by the end of the day or at least tomorrow, its too bad you didn’t come in two days ago to have this done.” She said as she smiled.
“Hmm, well I am going to go get some food cause I haven’t eaten today yet.”
Jordan paused for a moment then spoke again.
“Care to join me?” He asked.
“Sure, just let me wrap up some things here then we can go I know a place we can go to.”
* * * * *
Jackson’s 7-year-old daughter, Tyra, entered into the kitchen, chasing after the family dog. At the sink washing dishes was his wife, Helen.
“Honey don’t chase the dog around the kitchen right now, mommy’s washing dishes.”
The young girl looked up at her mom.
“Ok, mommy I won’t.” She said as a smile broke across her face. “When will daddy get here? You said they let him off of work.”
“He’ll be here some time today, you know that your father is in the military, they have rules before they can just let him go.”
“I can’t wait for him to get here, I’m gonna hug him and kiss him so much, I haven’t seen him in so long.”
Helen smiled at her daughter and watched her run off into other parts of the house, then went back to washing dishes.

Myers sat as his desk, holding a stack of papers in his hands. He looked at them, they were reports from the mission Captain Howard had been sent on. Myers, when he looked at the report feared the worst. Captain Howard was by no means someone to come up with some fake report and on top of that he was a **** fine soldier that and the thirty-five men who were missing couldn't have been orchestrated. With all this information at his disposal Myers felt exposed, he didn’t believe Jordan was lying, so this meant the creatures he saw were most definitely real. Myers felt exposed because if they were real he had no data on them, the few reports he got from his troops were nowhere near enough.
Myers stressed at the idea that there was some kind of openly hostile creatures lurking underneath the Imulsion facility in grid twenty-four. He had no way to prepare for such an attack from these creatures, or what their capabilities were. Myers always had a gut instinct on things and this was one of those things that didn’t sit right with him.
He pondered over the idea for a second then his secretary who had entered the office broke his concentration.
“Sir, I have a report you need to look at, it’s about the research teams at the Imulsion facility.” She said as she handed the folder to him.
He opened it up, seeing that it was filed by Dr. Selene, it stated that she had lost contact with the team at the site and figured that communications had somehow failed.
“This doesn’t look good, get me fourth company’s commander, I have a job for them.” Myers said as he tossed the file onto his desk.
* * * * *
Jordan and Jandice walked several blocks from the university to a small café. They grabbed a table outside and enjoyed the fresh morning air. They ordered and began their conversation that they had left off on.
“So what you’re saying is that I’m super-human Dr. Selene?” Jordan asked.
“Please, call me Jandice, I wouldn’t suggest that you are super-human, I wouldn’t even begin to suggest something like that, this doesn’t mean you’re a super-hero and can go out and get shot by criminals and the bullets will simply bounce off, it just means that for instance if you were to get shot, and assuming you survive the bullet, you will heal faster than other people.” She luaghed then spoke again. "Of course this is all Hypothetical."
“Ha, like how fast?”
“That depends, most bullet wounds can be debilitating, some may never walk again, or will lose use of their hand, but some would go on to make a recovery. If you were one of the people to recover, hypothetically you would recover five times faster than a normal human being.”
“Ok, well I’m not a scientist so how fast is five times?” Jordan said as he smirked.
“Ok, well normally it might take a week for the initial bullet wound to heal if treated properly, with you it can be done in two or three days, once again this is all hypothetical, I need more results to be able to actually discern whether you have any really abnormal abilities.”
Soon the waitress came, delivering their food. As the waitress set down the plate in front of Jordan he noticed a man on his cell-phone talking to someone. Normally he would just ignore it but it was the man’s tone that seemed off.
“What? Is this a joke?” The man said holding his ear closer to the phone “Wait… what’s coming out of the ground?”
Jandice folded her napkin neatly into her lap. Then noticed the water in her glass shake. Jordan felt it too, but the second time was more violent, shaking and knocking over various things.
“Something’s happening…” Jordan said as he felt his stomach drop.
“What is?”
“Something bad…”
* * * * *
Back at Jackson’s house Helen continued to scrub the dishes eagerly waiting for her husband to arrive. Suddenly her daughter charged into the room.
“Mommy, mommy, the ground outside is shaking!” The little girl said.
Helen stood confused for a moment until she too felt the ground shake, violently.
* * * * *
Myers sat at his desk, with fourth company’s commander standing at attention in front of him.
“As you know this will be just recon you won’t need all your men for this.” Myers told the commander.
The secretary once again entered the room holding a mug of coffee in her hand; she walked over and set it on the desk then left. Myers held the mug up to his face then was suddenly surprised as a violent quake shook the office, spilling his coffee onto him.
“The hell?” Myers said rhetorically.
“Sir? What the hell was that?” The commander asked.
Then a sudden realization hit Myers.
“Ready the troops, this is going to be bad.”
* * * * *
Elexis neared the university, now only a couple blocks away, she was scared out of her mind by the thing she had saw in the sewers and was now just trying to get some help. She thought she was losing it, until the quake came. The ground shuttered beneath her, this time she knew she wasn’t crazy because the people around her staggered and looked in various directions. The ground stuttered again this time more violently, then started to vibrate constantly.
She staggered just like the others and for a moment time stood still as an entire world held its breath...
Zero Hour
Emergence Day
Jordan was knocked to the ground suddenly by the resulting blast that came out of the ground. He was stunned for a moment but his senses quickly came back. He picked himself up off the ground to look at the hole that had just appeared across the street. Nothing happened for a moment and everyone simply stood, dazed. Jordan kept his fixated on the hole; he knew exactly what was happening.
Jordan had been so focused on the hole however that he did not notice Jandice walking over next to it. She gasped as she neared it; the hole was large, at least thirty feet in diameter. Jordan quickly ran up beside her and grabbed her by the arm.
“We have to go! Now!” He said angrily.
Jandice paused for a moment obviously something was not right. Before she could even open her mouth the ground began to shake again. She looked down below at the darkness that was the gaping hole in the planet. The darkness slowly moved and bubbled then gained strength and became more violent. Something was moving.
Jordan tugged on her arm. Jandice slowly began to pull back. The darkness then surged forth and the ground shook even more violently then before. The two then started to move away from the hole and ran back next to the café’s wall. They both squatted underneath a window of the café.
They both watched as a massive long legged creature appeared from the depths. It towered over them and the other people on the street. The creature was at least fifty feet tall; Jordan had never been so scared in his life. The thing was massive and even worse he wasn’t armed for combat at all. Everyone in the street stood there for a moment then decided to run.
All hell broke lose and the massive creature opened fire on the humans below. Then smaller creatures, the one’s that Jordan had encountered back the Imulsion facility began pouring out of the hole. The way that they came out of the hole reminded him of a beehive, the smaller ones looking like drones, surrounding the much larger creature. The “Drones” immediately opened fire with a number of small arms, cutting down civilians as they tried to flee.
The entire right side of the street had been cleared in a matter of seconds of life with the exception of the creatures themselves.
The humans on the other side of the street took cover in various buildings. Some just stood on the other side, astonished at what they were witnessing. At that moment Jordan saw the creatures turn their attention to the other side of the street.
“****…” Jordan muttered.
Jordan grabbed Jandice by her hand and tugged hard to get her to move. Shots tore into the side of the building, puffs of concrete dust and rubble chips flying out of the wall as the rounds hit. The glass above the, shattered just as they moved out from under it. The people standing inside were not fortunate as the bullets punched into them taking chunks out of them and sending pieces of flesh all over the place as they fell to the ground.
Jordan and Jandice rounded the corner just as a massive round punched into the café imploding the inside of it, sending out what remained of the inside out into the street. Jordan held Jandice with his hand and pulled her away from the street they had just come from. He ducked his head out for a second and then pulled himself back behind the cover of the wall.
“How many of them are there?” Jandice asked as her voice quivered.
He ducked his head out again then once again pulled back in.
“Lots…” He said grimly.
“What the hell are we going to do?”
“Well I need a gun, you wouldn’t happen to have one on you would you?”
She shook her head.
“Figures, **** like this always happens to me.”
He looked across the street from him, to a park with a stone gazebo in it. He squinted his eyes, trying to get a better view of the entrance to the park.
“Ok, see that entrance to the park over there?” Jordan said as he pointed. “Run for it.”
She nodded, waited several moments then dashed from her kneeling position and rushed for the entrance. Jordan quickly followed behind; small arms fire peppered the ground in front and behind him, sending up pieces of rock and dust into the air. He dove for the entrance way to the park, he landed behind a stonewall. Once again he peeked out from his cover and looked back down the street where the hole was.
The creatures dispersed and began searching the surrounding area. He picked himself up from his crouch and walked over to the stone gazebo, Jandice following behind. He looked around, finding a young girl in the corner, shaking. He tried to approach her but then he heard something. He looked to his left and saw one of the drones looking at a dead humans face. It made several grunts and sounds, as if examining the corpse. Jordan noticed that the mangled corpse wore a police officer’s uniform. More than anything Jordan noticed the gun holstered on the corpse’s waist. The creature didn’t even know Jordan was there.
Jordan took that initiative and ran forward quickly. He grabbed the creature by the armor that clung to his chest and drew his fist back. The creature snarled and hissed, and try to shake lose. But Jordan’s martial strength prevailed and he sent his fist flying into the creature’s ugly and distorted face. The creature snapped back trying to dislodge himself from Jordan’s grip but he failed.
Jordan grabbed the back of its head and smashed it hard into the wall. Jordan could hear its head crack and blood startled to trickle out of the wound in its head.
Jordan brought its head back another time and smashed it even harder. The third time he did it the creatures head caved and blood shot up all over the wall. The creature crumbled and fell to the ground. Jordan backed off away from the corpse for a moment then kneeled down next to the corpse of the officer.
He pulled the gun from the holster and popped out the clip, checking how many rounds there were.
“Alright I got twelve bullets…” Jordan said as he pushed the clip back in and cocked the slider back.
Jordan looked back at Jandice, then turned towards the girl. He once again tried to approach her but the young girl pointed her hand at something behind Jordan. Jordan turned quickly and saw another drone standing only a couple feet in front of him. It revved something on its gun, which looked like a chainsaw and charged Jordan. It threw out high arc attacks trying to cut Jordan down but he dodged moving from side to side.
As the creature brought it to bear from his right it rushed forward trying to bury it into Jordan. However, instead it caught a pillar that held up the inside of the gazebo. Sparks flew as the chainsaw grinded against stone.
Jordan brought up his gun, aimed it firmly at the creature’s head and fired. The drone’s head exploded with blood and brain tissue spattering against the ground and wall. He lowered his weapon and breathed out, tensely. He turned to the girl who was cowering in the corner. He reached out to her.
“You ok?” Jordan asked as he extended his hand.
The girl seemed reluctant to grab his hand or even speak.
“You have a name at least?” Jordan said, trying to comfort her.
Instead of accepting Jordan’s offer to help her up, she pushed herself up, bracing her back against the wall. She wiped the tears from her eyes, and then looked at Jordan.
“Elexis, my name is Elexis.” She said, still wiping tears from her eyes.
“Alright Elexis, this here is Jandice and were getting the hell out of here.”
“But those things…” She uttered.
“And I’ll kill everyone of those bastards that gets in the way.” He said as he smiled.
She looked at him for a moment then stepped forward.
“Ok, I’ll go.”
“Ok, good.” He said as he looked back over at Jandice. “Let’s get the hell out of here.”
The three then set out, leaving the stone gazebo behind, walking over blood stained cherry blossom petals, as they made their way out of the park.
The Longest Day
Emergence Day
Jackson picked himself off the ground of his house’s courtyard. As he rose from the ground he tried to pull his senses together. The world in front of him shook and stirred. His vision blurred then moments later started to clear up as his perception returned to him. In front of him was his house. He wasn’t exactly sure what had just happened.
All he remembered was that as he neared his house the ground shook violently and a concussive explosion went off, throwing him to the ground. He knew that he had been out for several hours because the sun that was high in the sky overhead was now slowly fading as it started to set.
Jackson looked at the devastation that surrounded him. Battered cars dotted the street, fires burned, and the heavy smell of death filled the air. Bodies laid scattered across the roads and side-walks. Jackson hadn’t even seen what had caused it all. The seemingly beautiful neighborhood that once was, was now gone, replaced by the scenery of war.
Jackson immediately turned his attention to the front of his house. The first thing he noticed was that the front door was kicked in. He panicked rushing forward and jumping over the door that led inside. He called out desperately.
“Helen!” He moved into the living room. “Tyra!”
He moved into the kitchen, on the floor was his wife.
“Oh my god Helen!” He said as he dashed over to her body and crouched over her.
He shook her several times and got no response. He turned her over only to find her corpse littered with bullet holes. Jackson pulled back abruptly slamming himself against the cabinets underneath the counter-top. He snapped his head back against the cabinet closed his eyes and started to cry.
A small hand that grabbed his shoulder suddenly startled him. He looked over, his daughter Tyra stood next to him. She too was crying.
“Is mommy sleeping?” She asked, tears falling down her face too.
He grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her close, hugging her.
“Yeah… mommy is sleeping…” He replied, closing his eyes once more as he squeezed her in his arms.

Myers tore out of his headquarters, only to witness mass chaos as odd and indescribable creatures scurried out of the ground, firing their weapons clashed with troops as they charged out of the barracks. Already the company captains were organizing their companies.
Myers stood for a moment, trying to rationalize what was happening and more importantly what to do. Suddenly a screech came from a small creature as it crawled from a nearby hole and hobbled its way towards him. Myers drew his officer’s pistol and fired a single round into the advancing creature.
It tumbled head over heels and smashed into the concrete. The captain that was in his briefing room, captain Ryan Lokei had now too emerged from the HQ. He drew his pistol and fired several shots at the advancing horde killing several of them. Ryan was a crack shot, and much like Jordan served in the pendulum wars alongside him with numerous medals and commendations under him as well.
After the war was over they decided to split the two from the same company and instead gave them respective commands over two companies, the fourth, under Ryan, and the seventh under Jordan.
Ryan slapped another clip into his pistol after unloading it into a group of the creatures.
“Sir, the base…” He said grimly, looking at his surroundings.
“I know its being overrun, where the hell are they all coming from?” Myers said as he fired several shots into another one of the smaller creatures.
“Sir, it looks like they are coming from that hole over there.” Ryan said, pointing to a large hole in the ground.
“Captain? Get it under control.”
“With pleasure.”
Ryan darted over to a box that held a large pack of satchel charges and kicked the lid of it off. He grabbed at the charges hoisting them onto his back. Then quickly dashed through the field of fire. Myers was amazed at the sheer speed in which Ryan moved, he had no fear and charged headlong into a group of the invading creatures.
Ryan fired several shots into the head of one of the creatures; he swiftly brought the bottom down on another’s head and fire another burst from his pistol, dropping yet another. Before he knew it he was standing over the gaping hole in the ground. He prepped the charges and prepared to hurl them into the hole.
But before he could he was suddenly thrown back away from the hole. Dirt and clumps of concrete showered the area as a larger creature crawled and emerged from the hole. The creature towered over him, Ryan looked up at the creature that was ready to smash him. The creature’s hand came down and Ryan rolled to his side. The massive fist smashed into the concrete just inches away from Ryan.
He drew his pistol and fired several shots at its face. The rounds found their mark and pelted the armor around its head. The creature staggered a bit but swiftly brought it’s hand back down again. This time Ryan was prepared however. Ryan jumped to his feet and leaped over the hole and landed on the other side. He twisted back around and started firing his pistol again. The shots bounced off and chipped the armor around the large creatures neck. It let out a furious roar then charged Ryan.
The creature however, fell into the hole instead, desperately grabbing at the ground as it slipped further back into it. Ryan pressed the buttons on the satchel charge and hurled it at the creatures face. He sprinted away from the hole quickly. He took cover behind a shattered concrete wall.
Seconds later the charge went off, setting off a massive explosion that rocked the entire base. Chunks and pieces of the creature flew threw the air and splattered against the ground, leaving streaks of thick blood smeared on the concrete ground of the base.
Then there was a silence. Not a single shot fired, not a single word said. Ryan peeked his head over the ruined wall, looking at the former location of the hole. The hole has closed entirely, the grains of sand and dirt slowly sifting back into the sinkhole. Suddenly the base erupted with cheers the men cried out as the battle had been won against the unknown invaders.
Ryan picked himself up from his crouch and looked around him. The base was shattered, but a good majority of the men remained. They had fought hard and well, taking little losses. Ryan brushed some dust and small chunks of debris off of his battle fatigues, then watched as Myers approached him.
“That’s some **** good work captain.” Myers said, approaching him.
“Thank you sir.”
Myers looked at the location of where the hole had been then looked back at Ryan.
“We got a problem though…” Myers shook his head. “It looks like we were lucky, all the bases within ninety clicks have been wiped out… the survivors are trying to regroup but those bastards won’t let up and we have an even bigger problem…”
“Sir?” Ryan said, concerned.
“We’ve got the order the evacuate the city, were pulling back to the Jacinto Plateau.”
Myers pulled a clip from his belt and loaded it into his gun.
“The orbital guns above us are going to torch the city, we need to get everyone out and to the EVAC point to Jacinto.”
“Sir, I won’t leave people to…”
Before Ryan could say anymore he was cut off.
“We have our orders son, save all we can, that’s all we can do…”

Elexis followed the man named Jordan that had helped back in the park several hours ago. Her feet hurt and she was scared out of her mind, the bodies, the wrecks, the fires, and blown out buildings were all starting to get to her. What was once a beautiful city had been destroyed in only several hours.
The things that lurked in her nightmares had now become reality. The events that had occurred in the last few hours had been way too shocking to be coincidence. She knew that somehow the events that had recently transpired were linked to her dreams.
She waited in fear for that final moment, the one she had had in her nightmare, the creature attacking then only darkness. She shuttered at the thought that this day might be her last. But she had also taken a look at the brighter side of things; at least she didn’t have to wait for that final moment that she knew was already coming.
She was still afraid of course, but the knowledge of such calmed her down so she didn’t break down completely. She dismissed the thought and continued through the bomb out streets and alleys. Jandice looked afraid too, but she also saw that she had an odd fascination whenever she saw one of the creature’s bodies. Jordan had even told her several times to keep moving when she paused and tried to examine the corpses.
By now the day that once was had turned to night, and the city flickered with shots and explosions, Fires and smoke burned from multiple points in the city. Elexis could see them strewn against the night sky. The biggest problem was that the power was out completely. Only the constant burning fires of the city lighted the group’s path. Elexis strained her eyes to try and see the path ahead of her.
Jordan seemed to be getting around just fine, almost as if he saw as if it were day. He walked steadily through the ruined city, hardly even making a sound. Elexis and Jandice however made a lot of noise as they wobbled over debris from buildings and sometimes bodies.
Jordan led the group through and alley; so far they had been fortunate not to encounter any more of the creatures. However, Jordan seemed on edge the entire time because he didn’t know if he was being watched or how big the invasion was. He kept to himself, not even uttering a word aside from the occasional grunt as he jumped over a large piece of debris.
The group neared an alley when Jordan suddenly raised his hand, signaling to stop.
“Hold up, there’s something coming.” Jordan said as he took aim down the alley.
He stood silent and still for a moment. His finger pressed slightly against the trigger of the gun. Suddenly two figures emerged from the darkness. Jordan held his fire and pulled his finger off the trigger. He instantly recognized the two people.
“I almost shot you Jackson!” Jordan yelled.
“Cap, is that you?” Jackson replied.
Jackson walked towards Jordan, Tyra was behind him holding his hand.
“You guys are alive, good I was worried.” Jordan looked at the way Jackson had just come from.”
“Helen?”
“She didn’t make it sir…”
“I’m sorry…” Jordan said as he backed away a little.
“I still got Tyra sir, and that’s everything to me now.”
“Drop the sir, this is far from anything formal.”
“Alright, Cap.” Jackson shook his head. “I haven’t seen anything, what’s going on sir… I mean Cap?”
“These things, they came out of the ground, I’m not sure what the hell they are, but they seem hell bent on eradicating us.”
Both men stood silent for a second.
“They’ll probably evacuate the city, we should try to gather some intel on where that point is.”
“The less time we spend here with my daughter the better Cap.”
“Agreed, let's move out.”
The group moved into the darkness of the city, what awaited them no one knew.
Well that's it so far I hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I liked writing it. :) I'm still working on the novel though so if you like it keep it under your favorites or something. Also feel free to leave comments and such, yes you can even criticize it just plz don't bash it entirely, also please know that some of the story might be off cause I wrote this before the game was even released, and yes I know about the grammar errors lol, I'm just so busy wanting it write new chapters that I forget to correct the ones I already have.

That was good. the begining was weak but it only got better and better. i thought that the descriptions were pretty good of the creatures but i'd kike to see (in the next one) kryll, exploding wretches, and maybe general RAAM
I would put RAAM into it, however this is also 14 years before GoW. So I don't even know where RAAM is or if he even existed yet. The begining was weak cause you have to build suspense, that's the way I've always done it. I wanted to make it clear that people had lives before everything went to hell.

this is also 14 years before GoW. So I don't even know where RAAM is or if he even existed yet.
I'm pretty sure that General RAAM is older than 14.
Also, I'm surprised someone wrote a piece of fan fiction this long. Now draw some pictures.

Great story so far. Looking forward to reading the rest. Perhaps we could somehow crossover characters. However, my story takes place during after the events of Emergence Day, so I don't know if it would work.
Keep up the amazing work.

:D You might have to work out a deal with epic to have this published, awesome story

I think he means that Locust might have accelerated growth rates compared to humans. Although, I do think that RAAM is a lot older than 14. It would be interesting if the Locust had a rank system. Perhaps he gained his "stars" by successfully fighting the humans during The Emergence? His outfit is similar to the Theron Guards, so maybe he started off as one of them and built up from there. Great story by the way.

but general RAAM is like huge like a boomer maybe he was a boomer b4 being promoted to General,I myself find the boomer a bit dumb,Finally great story Aria
lol, woah, so many people responded so quickly. Ok, I wasn't saying that RAAM wasn't alive yet I'm just saying I don't understand the Locust system enough to say whether he was a "General" then as he is now. Also, as for crossing stories it would be fun, only thing is that it might get complicated, esspcially since after about 2-3 more chapters its gonna jump to the future. I'm trying to decide on what to do and how far into the future to go. I'm thinking if I want to make my own story about these characters trying to stop the Locust around the time Marcus has his "adventure"... if that's what you want to call it.
Or I'm decideing if I want to implement Marcus into the story itself, setting the story after the events of GoW, it all depends on what Epic wants to do with thier story. Or I thought it would be a cool idea to have it be a side story to the GoW, like somehow Marcus and Delta squad's success resulted because of some things that the characters in my book did.
Honestly I don't see this as getting published material, many people say it is but I'm still skeptical on that part. lol, if someone from Epic reads it then says its really good, then I'll change my mind, but until then...
I am also probably adding to have Captain Howard have a nemisis in the form of the Beserker he fought at the Imulsion facility. He'll be able to recognize her cause of the eye he shot out. But the reason she'll be a nemeisis that she somehow was exposed to Imulsion, which in turn made her different from the rest of her kind. She is no longer stupid and just charges you then slams into a wall. She now has better senses, including the regaining of eye sight, making her even deadlier than before. She also has some other unique abilites that differ her from the rest of the Beserkers. I'll tell you them when I've fully decided what those abilites will be.

For a crossover, I was thinking something simple, like maybe crossing paths at some point in the stories. Nothing more than that.
Currently, my story is starting approximately 1 week after Emergence Day.
I'll definatly consider it. lol let me finish the next 2-3 chapters first so I can end E-day.

Emergence Day
Ryan slowly listened to the hum the King Raven, his eyes shut. Ever since the base had been attacked he had been exhausted. But the real reason Ryan found himself stressed was the order he had been given. Apparently a group of people calling themselves the Coalition of Organized Governments, or the CoG as the soldiers were already calling them had ordered all cities to be evacuated. Ryan didn’t exactly know what was going on still but his orders were clear, get everyone who is left in the city out before the place gets fried from the orbital satellite guns floating in the sky over-head.
Ryan dismissed the questions he had; his eyelids flicked open and he brought his attention to a trooper that was leaning out over the edge of the chopper.
Ryan looked out his side, looking down on the small fires that dotted the landscape. Every once in a while he could see little flashes of light. He assumed that it was troops fighting, or even worse just those creatures cutting down helpless civilians.
Ryan sat up in his seat and walked hunched over towards the front of the chopper where the pilots were.
“Where’s the LZ?” Ryan asked one of the pilots.
The pilot ignored him and just shook his head. The co-pilot however, turned to Ryan.
“Were about 5 clicks from the LZ, we’ll have you on the ground…”
Before the co-pilot said anymore the pilot spoke.
“What the hell is that?” The pilot shouted.
Ryan pushed himself further into the cockpit. As he did he looked into the void of the night. But something was wrong, Ryan had always had great eyesight, even in the dark, he could sometimes even see things that others normally couldn’t.
He squinted his eyes trying to make out what it was that the pilots thought they saw. Just as he did he saw movement, it was small at first but it quickly grew. Then he saw something, like a massive flock of birds, but it moved in a perfect organized form as if it was one creature. It was graceful for a moment but then the mass moved towards the chopper at an incredible speed.
“Beautiful…” Ryan muttered.
“Oh my god! Everyone brace your…” The Co-pilot shouted.
The chopper shook violently, sending Ryan flying back and smashing him against the wall at the back of the chopper. Ryan picked himself up, he grabbed for a handle that was imbedded in the ceiling. Ryan saw the pilots desperately attempting to keep the chopper stable, punching on the control panel.
Ryan looked at the confused soldier that was still hanging out of the chopper. The chopper rocked to the left then violently turned to the right, throwing the soldier out of the Raven and into the darkness outside, Ryan watched as the man didn’t fall, but instead was carried off and dismantled piece by piece by the flying horde. Then something even bigger hit the Raven. Ryan was thrown to the ground. He slid towards one side of the Raven then just as he was about to go over a hand grabbed him.
He looked up it was Sergeant Carol. He tugged at him and pulled him back into the Raven. They looked at each other then at the cockpit in the front of the chopper. A second massive creature tore into cockpit, smashing it and the crewmembers to pieces. Blood sprayed from the front of the chopper, both soldiers shielded their eyes from the spray.
A red light started to flash and the lights on the battered Raven dimmed as the vehicle lost power. As the Raven started to fall, Ryan could see a large figure standing in the street below, his arms were outstretched as the mass of flying creatures swarmed around him. The chopper’s warning signal started to wail and the chopper dropped from the sky like a rock, slamming into hard pavement of a street below.
Ryan’s world tumbled and swirled as the remnants of the Raven rolled continuously, finally stopping as it slammed into a building. Ryan’s vision then turned to darkness.
* * * * *
Jordan watched as the Raven fell from the sky and smashed into the street. The hollowed out chunk of metal tossed and rolled into a near by building. Jordan motioned his hand, telling the others to stay back. Jackson fell back with the others, taking cover in an alley behind them.
Jordan moved forward cautiously, aiming his pistol at the wreck. He kept a steady aim on one of the entrances to the wreck. He neared the door and pulled a panel of scrap metal away from the massive hulk. Inside he saw two men laying still on the floor of the wreck.
He instantly recognized one of them; it was Captain Lokei from fourth company. Jordan moved in and checked them both; they were alive, but unconscious. Suddenly a pistol appeared next to Jordan’s head. The other man on the floor held a steady aim pressed against Jordan’s temple.
Sergeant Carol’s vision returned to him and he saw that the man was human. He pulled the gun away a flicking on the safety, and tucking the gun back into a holster.
“****, I thought you were one of them.” Carol said as he braced himself against the torn wall of the Raven.
“Only you two made it?” Jordan asked.
Carol nodded his head.
“Alright well, let’s see if we can get Captain Lokei here awake.” Jordan said, pulling Ryan’s body from the torn wreckage.
Carol followed behind, holding his head as he tried to get his bearings. Jackson moved out from the alley and approached the three men.
“They ok?” He asked as he neared them.
“For the most part, except Captain Lokei here is out.”
“And who is this?” Jackson said as he nodded at Carol.
“Sergeant Carol sir, you’re Captain Howard aren’t you?” Carol asked.
“Yeah that’s right.” Jordan replied as he leaned Ryan’s body up against some of the wreckage.
Carol walked off back towards the wreck and pulled pieces of metal that were strewn about away from something buried under the debris. Underneath was a metal case, Carol grabbed it and pulled it with one hand, dragging it out of the Raven.
He crouched down and flipped open the case, inside was a crisp clean rifle. Carol pulled it out of the case and looked at it.
“The MA7B Lancer Rifle, nothing more beautiful.” Carol said as he popped in a fresh magazine. “It also has this nice little attachment here.” Carol revved the chainsaw that was attached to the end of the rifle. “This ought to rearrange those bastards nicely.”
Carol walked over and handed the rifle to Jordan.
“Now this is only a prototype, so don’t lose it.” Carol told him as he walked back over to the metal case.
“Don’t you need this?” Jordan asked.
Sergeant Carol then pulled something large, long and metal out of the case. He held the machine gun with one arm and proceeded to load ammunition into the gun.
“Call me old fashion though I like my big guns, heh.”
Jordan looked back at his pistol.
“Looks like I won’t need this now.” Jordan said as he passed the pistol to Jackson.
Jackson looked the pistol over then nodded his head.
“Alright well I got another MG, who wants it?” Carol asked.
Jackson reached out his hand but before he could receive it a hand reached up and grabbed the hilt of the machine gun.
“I’ll take it.”
A weary voice came from Ryan as he picked himself off the ground.
“Glad to see you back with us.” Jordan said.
“Captain Howard, nice to see you here.” Ryan replied as he cracked his neck.
“Likewise, got your head straight?”
“Heh… yeah.”
“Alright, think you can tell me what’s going on?”
Ryan paused for a moment then spoke again.
“We have to evacuate, were not out by 0600 hours, were toast.”
“Orbital guns?”
“Yeah…”
Jordan thought about it for a moment then shook his head.
“Any idea where the Evac point is?”
Ryan loaded a large cartridge of ammo into the machine gun, then looked back at Jordan.
“Yeah, its about four clicks east.”
“Alright let’s get going then.”
Ryan nodded and shifted his gun into a comfortable position then walked off ahead.
Suddenly the rest of the group from the alley ran towards Jordan and the others.
“Jordan there’s something crawling on the walls.” Elexis said as she neared him.
“What are you talking about?” Jordan said, confused.
“There’s these things I don’t know what…”
Before she could say anymore in the darkness, both Jordan and Ryan saw something moving across the face of one of the buildings. One of them paused for a moment. Both soldiers watched as the creature cocked its head at the group standing in the street below and let out a terrifying screech. The screech was loud, high pitched and protracted.
“The hell are those things!?” Jackson yelled.
Suddenly sergeant Carol’s machine gun opened up slamming high velocity shells pounding into the surface of the building. The creatures that were hit tumbled and rolled off the face of the building, dropping like flies. As more of the troops opened fire, Jordan could see what they were truly up against. Swarms of the creatures scampered over the buildings, steadily drawing nearer to their prey. Jordan realized the seriousness of the situation.
“We need to get the hell out of here!” He yelled to the others.
Everyone in the group nodded, then fell in near Jordan. Sergeant Carol was the furthest away; he retreated behind the others firing the MG as he went. The group ran as fast as they could until they reached the end of the street. The group passed into a large plaza.
“Alright, the evac point is just a few clicks away we should be able to make it!” Ryan yelled as he pulled out a map of the area.
The group neared a pillar that was at the center of the plaza and took refuge underneath it. Ryan moved the paper closer to Jordan, allowing him to see the route that they were going to take. Carol’s MG chattered as it spewed out more bullets.
“Alright, if we stick to the alley’s we should be ok, assuming they let off.” Ryan told the group.
“Well it looks like their not inclined to do so.” Carol said as yet more bullets tore out of his gun.
“Alright we’ll out run them.” Jordan said as he looked at the rest of the group.
The rest nodded, then took off across the rest of the plaza. Carol stayed behind firing his MG. Ryan grabbed at his shoulder.
“Go on ahead sir, I’ll catch up.” He told Ryan.
“No deal, you’re coming now.”
“Sir, with all due respect you can’t run forever, these bastards will eventually catch up to us and kill us, just go while you can!”
Ryan pulled back, understanding Carol’s sacrifice.
“Very well, good luck soldier…”
“Never had much sir…”
Ryan followed the path the others took across the plaza, catching up with the group.
“Where’s Carol?” Jordan asked.
Ryan stopped for a moment to catch his breath.
“He’s staying…” Ryan said as he took in deep breaths.
Jordan looked back to the middle of the plaza where he could see the flashes of light from Carol’s MG spark.
“Alright, let’s go…” Jordan said realizing he could do nothing.
The group moved off back into the demolished war zone, only Ryan and Jordan looked back, hesitant to leave.
Carol’s MG fired in the dimness of night, he had killed over fifty of the little bastards, but they still kept coming. Suddenly his gun clicked empty, he reached for more ammo, but found none left.
“****…” He muttered.
One of the creatures neared him and he pulled his pistol from his holster and began to fire. Carol hesitated too long on one of the shots; he fired as one of the creatures leaped at him. The shot tore into the creature, however its body fell over Carol, slamming him to the ground. Soon he found himself pinned, with the sound of the wretched things getting closer.

Kharkovo stood in line next to his comrades, the day so far had been victorious, many of the humans were dead, the others, fleeing. Kharkovo looked at the shattered bodies of the human creatures, he had come to fight a war, not kill those who could not defend themselves. Kharkovo was a soldier, as he looked at a shattered body that laid near him in one of the human’s plaza’s he thought to himself.
“There is no honor in this.” He said quietly.
“Neither is what they have done…”
Kharkovo‘s attention was turned to a fellow comrade. He looked at him for a second, almost with distain then drew his attention back to the commander who paced back and fourth.
“Straighten up, Kharkovo, you’re in the guard, not a grunt.” The commander told him.
RAAM’s face scrunched at the sight of Kharkovo, he thought Kharkovo was a fool, clinging to the old ways of honor and such. However, he did not care those that could not accept the new ways would be cast aside. How he had come to serve in the queen’s guard was all but a mystery to RAAM. He backed away, and went back to pacing himself.
Suddenly two massive figures came from the emergence hole nearby, holding elaborate pole arms that crackled with an orange luminous glow.
“She’s here.” RAAM said, almost delighted.
* * * * *
Sergeant Carol’s visions blurred, he’d been knocked out by the impact of the one of the small screaming creatures. Carol tried to get his perception to get their bearings, but to no avail. Suddenly he stopped moving, he heard a female voice speak.
“RAAM, you have done exceedingly well, I see that my faith in your abilities was not misplaced.” The voice said.
“Thank you, my queen, the humans have been shattered, it is all just a matter of time now.” The creature known as RAAM said.
Carol, tried to look at the creature, known as the queen, but all he saw a vague out-line. Suddenly one of the creatures spotted him.
“A human, kill it!” one of them said.
The queen raised her hand, stopping the rest. Carol could see the outline of the queen reach towards him. He felt something touch his face. He realized it was a hand, it felt human, but it was cold to the touch. He backed away from her and tried to push the small creature off of him.
“So much tenacity, but such a waste.” The queen said as she picked herself up from the ground gracefully.
“Kharkovo, deal with it.” RAAM told Kharkovo.
Kharkovo stepped forward, watching the helpless being below him, squirm trying to desperately escape. He paused for a moment, then back away from the human.
“Erraa, do I have to do everything myself?” RAAM said as he pushed Kharkovo aside.
The last thing Sergeant Carol was to see the large boot of the creature RAAM, come crashing down on his skull with a cracking thud…

Great stuff.
I'll post my first chapter once it's finished. I also plan on flushing out some details once I finished, and adding some last minute editing.

Perception
* * * * *

Aria - you have written a hell of a story. I made an account just to comment on it. I am at work and I was on break and then just started reading the story, you made me want to know what happens to each character. So I overshot my break by 20 minutes and I am left hanging with happens... You need to finish the story. It is well written and you made me care about the characters... keep up the good.

Aria, very very well done. Just remember what I said about the ******* mooshy wooshy stuff. :)
You have a very good begining, and certainly the urgency of the characters' situation is truly palpable. Keep it going or at least untill EPIC sells the rights to Tor and they tell you to stop....j/k.
I really hope that doesn't happen where they make me stop writing. :( I can recall that Bungie or Microsoft made a mod group stop work on it, then announced Halo Wars. I'd rather not even get on why I thought it was wrong, cause it kinda makes me angry.
Anyways I love writing about the universe GoW is set in. lol, and yes I remember what you said about the "Mushy Gushy" stuff, as it stands this is a military novel, not a romance.
But I have thought about it, having romance in a novel is not all bad, it just makes it so that people seem more human. I won't include anything extreme in the novel regarding romance, but it's not a bad idea. There are several areas in the novel where I kinda describe life in Jacinto, at which point I could impliment romance when the GEARS are "off-duty". But no, nothing weird like in combat.
Obviously you won't be thinking about someone a whole lot that way when a creature is about to crush your head in or blow you away with an oversized gun.

I happened to check out gearsofwar.com... It seems some of this story is in the flash there?
I recall the unknown man saying "wait ... what's coming out of the ground?", which I also seemed to quickly hear in the flashvideos too on the site. <<

I have to say that Aria has a point about the romance, as does musi.
Imagine this scene gentleman
Some one you care about, someone that means the world to you. Maybe your girl friend, mother, father, friend, etc. Anyone that you would lay down your life for. the mooshy stuff helps connect that for reader, you will get your violence, but you must understand to build tension and suspense there must be something more then violence.
Would you let you squad die for the love of an other, again does not have to be friend? Even though that seems unlikely, would you?
Without love, people have a hard time operating. I understand that sera is ready to go terminal for human race, but when there is no more coke and pepsi and there is no more easy living, and everything is falling apart... so does your mind. Without love it would be hard for some one to hold onto their sanity. Then tons of questions are raised from that, what if the thing that ties you to the world is gone... people? Friends? Lover? Family? Imagine all of these things gone today. What would that make you? Imagine seeing their deaths? Imagine seeing hearing their screams, imagine the locust ripping their innards out... all you could do is watch. What images would haunt your dream, what guilt would you carry on your shoulders, Would your mind still be intact, these far fair questions....
End Point: The mushy stuff is not really mushy, it is more of a connection and link that builds us and makes us who we are, without it, what would be? The Locust.
That was really well said, lol, thanks for supporting it and putting it into words that I could not. :)
By the way answering to Musilowski, there are several parts in my novel in which I bring in lines from the flash movies on the actual site. Such as the man on the phone and Tyra asking when her father was coming home.
I thought there was another but I forget which one it was. Anyways there's goning to be at least a 1 other one that I plan to do, so watch the site flash movies and then read my novel and see if you can spot the one in the next chapter. :)

I believe Aria can handle the timing and how its portrayed, her writings to date are quite good. You've written before.

Aria,
I know what poisition you're in. I went through the same problems before I started working on my story. The problem is, we're very limited in what we can write about because of the little information we have. I would really love to put more of these theories into my story, but it's extremely difficult to do so.
My solution was to write a story based on what we DO know. My story focuses on Emergence Day. Or, more specifically, a few days after Emergence Day. What I did was create a squad of my own, and throw them into the type of situations I KNOW are plausible. This way, I'm not basing very much on unknown information.
If you would like to know more about my story, please feel free to IM me. I'd really like for you to be able to finish your story, even if you feel like you need to rewrite some portions of it. I'm taking these fan fictions very seriously, as the GoW side stories need to start somewhere, and I feel the fans are the best place for that beginning.
So, if you do infact feel like discussing this further with me, my AIM screename is the same as my forum name. I look foward to speaking with a fellow writer, and I hope you do decide to continue your story.
Alright, I'll keep writing, the only thing is that I write for the purpose of furthering the story-line because it lacked so much in the game. But once again because of lack of information it's so hard. Like for instance the "Queen" Locust appears in the last chapter I wrote. In it I hinted to the fact that she is small, like by small I mean like human or near human height.
Now Epic might have the idea that she is large, like the size of a room or bigger. This is just one of the issues I am currently facing trying to write this novel. :(

I'd just like to see this story continue until the end. Even if the story isn't accurate once they release more info, it'll still be a great read for now. And who knows, maybe one day they'll ask you to write an official story ;)

Yeah, please continue to write your fic. I've enjoyed quite a bit. One of the good things about fanfiction is that it allows the fans to fill in the missing parts of story. Whether or not it's accurate compared with the final product really does not have much to do with the story's quality.

I whole heartedly reccomend that you do carry on with your story. I have found it to be engaging and thrilling. I must also admit, rather chilling. For example, I read the first few chapters, specifically the chapter set in the Imulsion Plant, at about 2:00AM and was actually nervous when I wandered down the passage in the pitch black to go to the loo. Probably didn't help that I am afraid of the dark and spook easily, but still.
The beautiful thing about Fanfiction is that it is just that, "Fan"fiction. It doesn't have to be spot on. Your ideas seem plausible and they could work within the world of Gears. Personally, I find writing when you don't know much, to be a refreshing challenge. For example, I plan to write a Fanfiction based on the Locust Horde, told from their perspective. For this, I am going to have to do a heck of alot of guess work and incorporate various theories of my own that I have about the Horde.
I see it as a chance to create a piece where I am limited in my world, but not my ideas, to a degree. To explore and expand the perception of the Horde's motivation for their attack on Sera's Human population. And with any luck, I won't be too far off what Epic have planned for us.
I hope you continue your writing and I look forward to reading more soon.
~E
Ok, I will continue to wite, regardless that if the story follow's Epic's or not, I'm pretty sure some of the notions I've put in it so far a true to a degree. Thank you all for your support, and if you really like this novel you'll be pleased that it continues far beyond E-day. :)
And answering to Madmax, why did you even post just to tell me its too long.... it's a novel and I can't exactly get it published so why not post it on a forum?

Seriously, this story rocks my socks off! I can't believe you've written such an awesome story! I knew I trained you well! Just kidding, man. This was all your own stuff. It'll sure help out when you write more in Firefight. It's amazing how little you have to know about a universe in order to write about it so excellently. Keep it up--I speak for everyone when I say, "I want more!" Tip 'o the hat to ya, Aria!
Blaarg, it's the Lone Ranger not the Long Ranger, and secondly you edit my stories? lol, and Avers did you just make two accounts to make fun of my novel? lol, for those of you who need to know, Avers is my friend, he's currently in the novel but I won't tell you who so I can keep you all guessing also I'd rather not disclose Aver's real name. Also I apologize for being late on the next chapter, I have NOT stopped writing, I've just been busy lately.
The Last Mile
Emergence Day
Jordan moved forward aiming his gun towards a nearby door that lead into an apartment complex. By this time they had moved through most of the city and supposedly, according to Ryan, the Evac point was on the other side of the complex. Jordan remained skeptical about confining themselves inside of a building. However, it contained its advantages.
Now Jordan was able to close with the enemy quicker and make use of the chainsaw attached to his Lancer. Also, the fact that he was not wearing any sort of armor was not good. But being in a place with so much cover available negated the problem however. The plus side to not having the armor around was the mobility. All Jordan had to do was keep his head down and he should be fine.
Now the only thing Jordan had to really contend with was two things. One, the fact that he had three people that were not trained in combat techniques and two, the decision to leave Sergeant Carol behind. The thought drove itself into Jordan’s mind like a hot poker. He could also see the same decision plaguing Ryan’s thought as well.
Jordan dismissed the thought as he brought his hand up next to the door. He pulled up the Lancer as he hand gripped the door handle. His hand clenched down on the doorknob and slowly twisted. As he did he slowly let down the Lancer so that it rested comfortably aimed at the doorway.
Ryan and Jackson followed behind, keeping a steady aim at their surroundings. Jordan busted into the small area behind the door. Inside the place broke off into several halls, one lead forward, the other two to the sides running along the buildings front and lastly a set of stairs that lead up several flights.
Jordan scanned the halls, the place was relatively dark, the only light came through the front windows in the halls that were at the building’s front. The two other soldiers moved in behind him, Ryan moved to Jordan’s left, checking his MG’s ammo box to make sure it was firmly locked in place. Jackson took to Jordan’s right and moved slightly into the hall.
Jackson moved up towards a door that had been bashed in, just like the door at his house. He peeked inside, and immediately noticed the bodies lying still on the floor. Blood stained the room’s walls, Jackson had to turn away from the grizzly sight. He had seen this kind of stuff before, even before he had to see his wife in the same shattered form.
But even now he was still not used to it, combat training taught you a lot, but never how to calm your nerves when faced with such a grizzly sight. Jackson looked back at Jordan for a moment, then shook his head.
Jordan nodded back in silent recognition, moving forward a bit down the hall before him. Jordan seemed hesitant to move down the darkened corridor. He immediately dropped to his knee, as he heard a sound emanate from the hall.
The two other soldiers quickly caught on and aimed their weapons, taking their stance behind Jordan. They all waited for a moment, Jordan fired several shots into the darkness. Everything was silent for a moment, Ryan looked at Jordan, confused. Then suddenly fire came streaming out of the dark hall. Shots peppered the entrance of the small lobby, sending splinters of wood and plumes of dust from the wall as it disintegrated. Jackson threw himself back towards the door, he pushed himself up as he threw the door open and pulled his daughter inside.
Elexis and Jandice followed inside behind her. In the street, Jackson could see the movement of more creatures bearing down on their position. Jordan fired several bursts from the Lancer, downing several of the creatures as they attempted to push forward from the hall.
“****! They’re surrounding us Cap!” Jackson yelled as he shot several rounds to the hallway on the left.
“I’ve got more over here!” Ryan yelled out as he let lose a volley of fire to the right hallway.
Jordan made a split second decision then decided to go the only way they could, up.
“Everyone up the stairs, now!” Jordan ordered.
The group moved in unison, with Jordan and Ryan being the last ones to climb the flight of steps. The three groups of creatures pursued them, each group from the halls and outside converging all at once.
Jordan fired a couple bursts then followed the others upstairs. Jordan reached the floor above. As he ran towards one of the halls, he was met not by his group, but by one of the creatures that was in the process of reloading.
The creature fiddled with the gun desperately trying to reload it. Jordan panicked for a moment then remembered the chainsaw that was mounted on the gun. His fingers fumbled for the trigger to activate it, then he found it. He pressed in hard on the trigger and the chainsaw revved to life.
Jordan charged forth, driving the chainsaw deep into the creature’s head. The chainsaw whined as the metal teeth tore into the creature’s skull, blood erupted from the creature’s body. Jordan shut his eyes, in an attempt to keep from being blinded from the spray of blood.
The creature’s head split in half and the body went limp and dropped to the floor. Jordan had been horrified at the sight that was now before, but he quickly came to his senses and looked around for his group. Then a voice shouted from above.
“Up here!”
Elexis hanged her head over the railing above. Jordan looked up and nodded, wiping away some of the blood. He made his way over to the stairs, watching as the shadows of their pursuers charged up the set of stairs below. Jordan dashed hard up the stairs; the others were far ahead of him. He thought about what they were going to do, the others were heading for the roof, where there would be no escape.
As he neared the top he saw the group crouched next to the open doorway that lead to the rooftop. Outside he could hear the fluttering of wings, lots of them. Ryan was the first to speak as Jordan neared the group.
“We can’t go any further, those things will tear us to pieces!” Ryan yelled over the constant sound of the winged creatures.
“What the hell are they?” Jackson asked.
“I don’t know, but I’ve seen what they can do.”
Jordan thought for a moment.
“Well this is great, were stuck in between a rock and another freaking rock.” Jordan said as he tried to decide on the next course of action.
“Don’t you mean a rock and a hard place?” Jandice asked, confused.
Jordan shook his head; she obviously didn’t understand what he meant. He peeked his head out of the doorway a little, and immediately noticed a large propane tank on the roof. Then he noticed the railings of a fire escape that lead down the other side of the building. There were also lights in the distance that stood out amongst the darkness of the city, it was the Evac point. He pulled himself back in and turned to the group.
“Alright, I’m hoping this explosion will keep those things away long enough for us to get to that fire escape over there, once it goes of I need to everyone to move out quickly and head for the fire escape.” Jordan told them.
They all nodded as Jordan poked himself out of the doorway, aiming his Lancer at the propane tank. He fired several bursts and a mighty explosion erupted. Jordan threw himself back and watched as the odd bat like creatures scattered and flew away, desperately trying to escape the light and the roaring inferno as it engulfed some of them.
“Alright let’s go!” Jordan yelled.
The group quickly picked themselves up from the floor and dashed for the fire escape. Jordan, as always was behind them. The group clambered down the metal fire escape, making loud clangs as their feet hit the metal stairs. They all quickly made it down the entire side of the building in a matter of seconds.
As the group reached the bottom and jumped down onto the street below, their pursuers took aim at them from above. All three soldiers took aim with their weapons and opened fire on the enemy, keeping them pinned.
“The Evac point is that way! Go!” Jordan yelled at the three girls as he pointed at the end of the street. “Ryan!” Jordan pointed at the group, telling him to protect them.
Ryan nodded and pulled away from pinning the creatures on the rooftops above. He slapped in another magazine and dashed ahead of the group. Jackson was the next to pull out and lastly Jordan followed behind.
Elexis ran towards the lights at the end of the street. An explosion rocked the nearby structure sending her dashing from the building; debris hit the ground and shattered into dust and small chunks.
Then it hit her, she had seen this all before… she had seen this in here dreams. She paused for a moment; she knew exactly what was about to happen. She didn’t know how to react she simply stood there. Instead of running she just stood there, hoping that somehow she could change the future. She moved forward a bit, slowly at first then picked up speed as she moved forward towards the Evac point.
Then the creature she had seen in her dreams stopping front of her. It was tall, had pale skin, but was different, this time she didn’t see the animal lust that drove it to kill, like in her dreams, and instead she saw something far different, almost compassion.
The creature looked at her and instead of grabbing her, backed away, almost letting her know that he was going to let her live. Shots hit the ground in front of them and scattered chunks of concrete and tar into the air. The creature backed off, then dashed into the shadows of an alley. Elexis let out a great sigh of relief, things were happening differently. She glanced over at Ryan, who smiled at her and then his expression changed. He shouted and then it hit her, she forgot about the horde of creatures on the other side of the street!
The horde of creatures to her side attacked, but just as in the dream fire erupted over her head. Ryan let loose a volley of fire from his MG and cut the advancing horde down. But there was too many, Elexis turned to see the horde as it surged forth, attempting to kill everything in their path. Then one of the creatures charged forth in an attempt to tackle the girl.
But then to Elexis's surprise she wasn’t hit by the creature, but from someone else from the side. Elexis’s vision scattered as Jordan tackled her, Jordan turned in mid and with Eleixs in one arm and the Lancer in the other he opened fire and fired the last rounds of his gun into the creatures face.
Blood scattered as the creature’s head disappeared entirely, leaving only a bloody stump left. Elexis smacked against the pavement, then looked up at Jordan. He nodded at her then helped her up.
“You ok?” He asked.
Elexis looked herself over.
“Think so…”
“Alright, let’s get the hell out of here before more show up.”
She closed her eyes briefly then nodded at him.
The battered and exhausted group slowly made their way towards the trucks. The troops guarding the trucks let down their guard. Just as soon as the action had begun, everything was quite. Jandice pulled herself into one of the trucks and braced herself back against the board that surpassed as a backrest.
Jackson and Tyra followed behind, the little girl rested in her father’s arms. Ryan walked off and greeted the commanding officer then went off explaining things. Eelxis stood in front of the trucks. Nearby, she saw a soldier pounding on a TV that had been set up, trying to get the static to disappear. After he pounded several times, the picture came in clear as a bell.
She was suddenly startled when a hand slowly came down on her shoulder. It was Jordan he looked at her and smiled then turned his attention to the group of people that was gathering around the TV.
He walked over, and watched the screen. On it was a man at a podium, his suit clean and pressed, his hair combed, he had seen nothing of this war, or at least what surpassed as one, he was just another politician. The press at the meeting rambled with questions and even angry notions as what was exactly happening. The man raised his hands and the noise dimmed. He spoke.
“Citizens of Sera, we have been attacked by an unknown force, they are many and have managed to overwhelm our military forces. It seems as though these creatures have “Emerged” from holes underneath us and attacked over citizens. My advisor’s tell me that their machinery cannot pierce the sediment at Jacinto Plateau, therefore I have ordered that all those possible are to evacuate to this location. We will deny the enemy their victory, I have authorized the entire orbital and chemical weapons of Sera to be used in scorching the land to deny this enemy their claim. For those unable to evacuate… Forgive us…”
Jordan stepped back, then turned to Elexis.
“Get on the truck, let’s get the hell out of here…” He said grimly.
She nodded once again and pulled herself onto the truck, Jordan followed behind.
* * * * *
Kharkovo moved away from the area with all the humans. He knew that they were running, and rightly so. Within mere hours his race had managed to topple and destroy everything these creatures knew. Even worse he knew the extent to which the humans would go to deny their enemies.
Thus the queen had ordered everyone back into the caves. Kharkovo knew exactly why, the humans probably treated his race like a bunch of bugs to be crushed; they knew nothing of his people or why he fought. The thought made him angry, the thin slits that surpassed as his nostrils flared. But then he thought about the girl that he had saw, the one he had let live.
He didn’t know why he did it. RAAM ordered them to exterminate all humans, men, women, children, everything. But when the time came to do it, Kharkovo found that the only ones he could kill were the ones that were actually attempting to kill him.
He dismissed the thought as he moved towards one of the holes that led back down into the burrows. He leapt down into the darkness, putting the events of this “Emergence Day” behind.
* * * * *
Emergence Day, many people remember that in less than a single day, the population of Sera had been devastated. What was left of us managed to pull back to Jacnito Plateau, where the sediment was too hard for the enemy to break through. In the months that followed the Coalition of Organized Governments, or the CoG had rose to power. Others said they were there because we needed them, but… I still have my doubts.
Mankind has been backed into a corner, if we’ll get out I have no idea, I don’t read the future. I’ve seen war with my own eyes, but nothing like this, the ruined cities, what’s left of the bodies and all of the ghosts and echoes that emanate from the cities of what once was.
When I signed up to help the CoG, they treated this “War” as if it were glorious. I see no glory here, only ruined lives and those desperate to get by. All I see is the same human ignorance that landed us in this position in the first place.
What do I see here? I see only a war, one from which no one no matter how hard they try to escape, they can’t. I see only the things that I saw so many years ago in the Pendulum Wars.
This is our last stand; I am a GEAR of this so-called Coalition of Organized Governments, and I make my stand here. My name is Captain Jordan Howard just another GEAR in a much larger world, and this… this is beginning of everything…
So sorry about the delay guys, lol, I bet you all thought I quit or something huh? Well anyways enjoy!:)

Nice. I like how you tell in detail. :)
And some grammar mistakes here and there (i.e. quite == quiet, and Jacnito == Jacinto), but they do not bother me. ;)

this is really amazing, good job. this is easily one of the best fan fics i have read in a while. i ocasionelly write but have never been able to finish anything, i always give up like half way through :o . the only problems are minor things like the locust with the saw and stuff like that doesnt really matter. my biggest complaint is that i didnt know about this earlier ;) . i seriosly just spent the last 2 hours reading this. great job, continue :)
Edit: your worried about your grammar? you should see the stuff i right one out of ten words is spelled right.
The reason the Locust had a chainsaw gun was to show that somehow, some human's had prior knowledge about the locust and thus desgined the lancer. Although the locust saw the chainsaw unnecessary so it never entered large scale "Production".

All I can say is, this story is amazing, Come on I made an account just so I can keep following this story and make comments on it as you keep writing, Its been thrilling the whole time, I've enjoyed it since the very first chapter!
lol, you know I'm surpised that no one from Epic has contact me or anything. I mean it's thier site fourm and all you'd think by now they'd take interest. Oh well, at least people are enjoying it either way. They also probably want people with like a background history in writing or something.

Usually i am hyper critical(see any conversation between me and LEo R.C.) but this story is actually my favorite story about GOW next to the game. Army of 1/2 comes in a close second.
Sorry about taking so long with the next chapter, I'm currently trying to incorperate someone else's character into the story and trying to right structered around something for me to be honest is alot harder then just "winging it". Anyways, the next chapter should be done sometime this week, also if any of you have suggestions or anything on what you'd like to see in the book, please feel free to ask, and I'll see if I can put in the the novel.

First let me say this is fantastic prose, considering it's based on a game. It may even go above Fanfic. I look forward to seeing where it goes, and especially seeing the final revised version. If you ever need any help proof-reading or editing, let me know, I consider myself pretty good at it.
More of what the other two above me were saying. A large scale firefight would be interesting. I seem to recall there being a rather large battle to hold the Jacinto Platue? But don't base your story on our suggestions. Let it take you where it will. Because sometimes the story decides what it's going to be, not the writer.

Interesting. I'm finishing up chapters 2-5 of mine, and you've beat me to the punch. Looks like I'll have to edit to avoid looking like I stole things. Either way, I hope you pull it off well.
Fields of Death
The Pendulum Wars
Jordan dashed forward against the entrenched position. The loud thumping noise coming the enemy machine gun chattered and spat fire, mowing down several members of the company. Jordan smashed himself next to a ruined conduit. Sparks flickered from ruined cords that lead into the massive pumping station next to him. The conduit belonged top a pumping station that pumped very essence of why this horrible war started.
Jordan could see the yellow glowing liquid as is coursed through glass pipes leading off into the station hundreds of yards behind them. Rain spattered against his helmet. Jordan peered through the torrential downpour and snapped his attention to a group of soldiers that were pinned behind a small ruined wall. Behind it was Lieutenant Ryan Lokei, as well as two soldiers that Jordan had identified as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, but most of the troops in the company called him Dom. Chunks of the wall flew as bullets pounded into the wall.
Jordan looked over the conduit and up the machine gunner that was manning it. It chattered another bursts at the trio pinned behind the wall. The gunner was positioned on a walkway that lead around massive holding tanks for the Imulsion. Ryan looked over at Jordan and made several signals with his hands. Jordan nodded and brought up his assault rifle. He let a volley lose from the gun, the bullets pinging and clattering as they ricocheted off of the tall green holding tanks.
The group moved out as the gunner turned his attention at Jordan. Jordan ducked back down, taking cover behind the ruined conduit. Sparks flew as the gunner’s rounds punched through the metal and wiring. Suddenly the noise stopped, but Jordan could hear the jingle of bullets. He poked his head out and saw the gunner reload his gun, the man fumbled with the long string of linked MG rounds.
Then Jordan heard a metal ***** noise and saw a small round object appear in the air. Seconds later an explosion went off, sending the man flying from the walkway screaming in pain as the fragments and shards of metal entered his body. He hit the ground followed by a thud as his corpse settled into the soft mud on the ground.
Jordan slogged forward in the foot deep mud, nearly having to yell to get the others to hear past the falling rain.
“Where’s second squad?” Jordan yelled.
Ryan shook his head.
“They’re dead sir, they bought it on the first MG position.” Ryan replied.
Jordan moved out of the rain and under the walkway then toned down his voice.
“This all that’s left?” Jordan asked as he checked the number of rounds left in his gun.
“Yeah, only Dom and Marcus, and of course me.” Ryan said grimly.
Jordan sighed for a moment, then turned his attention to Marcus and Dom.
“What do you want to do sir?” Marcus asked.
Jordan said nothing for a moment; he only stood, thinking about the next course of action.
Marcus looked at Lieutenant Howard, out of all the people in this war Marcus had come to respect both Lieutenants. They thought about the soldiers first, and didn’t give a **** about the people who sat behind desks all day and sent people to go die for them. No, Jordan and Ryan were something else, they cared about who lived or died, and that had earned them his respect.
Jordan finally spoke again.
“How many more positions do you think there are?” I’ve got…” Ryan thought for a moment. “…One more… followed by a hard point with three.”
“Ah ****, just keeps getting better and better…” Marcus said as he looked away from Jordan.
“No guts no glory, right?” Dom said, patting his gun.
“Alright, Dom, Ryan, you go left, Marcus with me.” Jordan said as he motioned his hand. “Were gonna try to flank the next position, watch your ass, I don’t want see you guys going home in a box.”
They all nodded and split, Ryan and Dom walking away. Marcus looked at Jordan, then nodded. The two moved out, moving their way away from the holding tanks. Jordan passed out into the open, a field laid ahead of him, pumping stations dotted the landscape, with the exception of the large facility ahead of him.
“So what do you think of all this?” Marcus asked, ever wary of the surroundings.
“What do you mean? The war?” Jordan replied.
“Yeah…”
Jordan let his gun down and looked where he was stepping then replied.
“If you mean to ask why the hell am I fighting an entire war just for the sake of Imulsion… no.”
“Then why, sir?”
Marcus moved out to Jordan’s right and aimed, scanning the area for enemies.
“Ah hell, I fight cause I try to think about how the world be if we allowed this type of thing to happen… I try to think about what would happen if we just let these countries run around like barbarians and attack people at will…”
Jordan scanned the area, looking for signs of the enemy.
“Yeah? Isn’t that kinda what were like now… barbarians?”
“There is purpose behind what we do.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
Marcus turned a corner near a wall. He paused for a moment. No more then a few feet ahead of him was an enemy soldier, a poncho draped over his head, holding a machine gun, looking out on the area before him. The soldier hadn’t yet noticed him. Marcus pulled the trigger on his gun, it clicked but no sound came out of it save for the sound of an empty clip.
He stood, shocked as the man didn’t even notice him. Marcus reached for another clip on his belt. He tugged carefully on it, pulling it down and next to his gun. He had to be quick, if he took too long to reload he was dead. Marcus released the clip, the gun pinged as the magazine slipped and fell to the ground.
By now the soldier had noticed and reached for an assault rifle near him. Marcus slammed the clip in and aimed it at the soldier. He pulled the trigger again, nothing, the gun had jammed.
“Ah ****!” Marcus yelled.
The soldier looked directly at Marcus and pulled back on the loading mechanism. Marcus closed his eyes this was it. Suddenly shots rang out, peppering the soldier, punching holed in his uniform and sending plumes of red out into the air. Marcus opened his eyes, next to him was Jordan, his assault rifle’s barrel steamed as droplets of water spattered against it.
“A little close yeah?” Jordan said as a worried expression crossed his face.
Marcus let out air that he had held in.
“Yeah… just a bit.”
Both of their attention was turned as bullets tore into the wall near them.
“Oh ****!” Jordan yelled as he threw himself into the emplacement previously occupied by the soldier.
Marcus followed and threw himself against the sandbag wall. He fumbled, trying to fix the jam in his gun.
“What the hell is wrong with this thing?” Marcus yelled as he punched and hit the gun.
Jordan peeked his head just above the sandbag. Looking out towards the facility he could see the enemy positions. One was in the middle of the entrance that lead into the facility. The other two covered the top of the buildings, looking down onto the fields before them.
One of the gunners spotted Jordan and opened fire. He ducked back down, then noticed the bullets stopped flying, at least at him.
* * * * *
Ryan released a burst of fire from his weapon, hitting the soldier manning the gun on the right of the rooftop. At the other side of the small field he could see Jordan raising himself and firing on the enemy positions then ducking back down for cover. He could also see Marcus trying to fix a jam in his gun.
Ryan ducked back down, as shooting the enemy comrade on the roof had only served to enrage them.
“You got any shells for that thing?” Ryan asked, as he looked the grenade launcher attached to Dom’s gun.
“I got two shells.” He answered.
“Make the shots count.”
Dom nodded and raised himself from the concrete wall.
* * * * *
Jordan watched as the left MG position exploded, sending a rain of and concrete debris down on the center position. Jordan wasted no time and charged forth, opening up with assault rifle. The bullets caught the last soldier manning the center gun straight in the head, dropping him instantly.
Both groups rejoined each other.
“Hell of a day, huh?” Ryan said as he approached.
“It’s not over yet.” Jordan said as he ran over to a stairway that lead to the building’s roof.
Jordan charged up, at the top he could see everything, a vast field, filled with trenches and bodies. He could see the plumes of smoke that rose into the down pouring sky. What was before him was utter chaos, there didn’t seem to be much left. Jordan looked out past the way they had come. Along with the pumping stations that dotted the landscape he could see troops move in. It had been a costly battle, just in the flanking assault alone, only Marcus, Dom, Ryan and Jordan has survived out of an entire attack group of some two thousand men. They were lucky, truly a one in a billion chance.
But the battle had not been won yet. The opposing force also wanted this facility to use as their own in fueling their machines of war. Jordan looked as an entire force of the enemy approached from the west.
“Get those machine guns up here!” Jordan ordered.
Dom and Marcus nodded and ran back down the steps.
“What’s your plan?” Ryan asked.
“We hold here, we can’t let them take the facility, if they do it’ll just make this god forsaken war last longer than it already has.” Jordan replied bitterly.
“If they roll on us with tanks?”
Jordan looked out passed the front of the facility, then spotted a group of vehicles still parked and not used.
“Think those things still got oil in them?” Jordan asked as he pointed at them.
“I’d like to think so, why? What do you have in mind?”
Marcus and Dom came marching back up the stairs, machineguns in hand.
“We got some company.” Dom said.
Behind Marcus and Dom came a group of twenty soldiers. The sergeant approached Jordan.
“Fox Company, here and ready… or at least what’s left of us.”
Jordan nodded.
“So what’s the plan sir, I think I can see tanks, it’ll still be a while for ours to get up here.” The sergeant asked.
Jordan walked over to the West end of the building, facing the oncoming force.
“Were right in the middle of a damned open engagement, my idea is that we get the tanks come down this area here.” Jordan pointed at a section of the trench line.
“Alright what then? Heh, I’m sorry sir but don’t you think were gonna need a little more than a couple of MGs and grenade launcher rounds?”
“Well, I was coming to that… I guess we could try a sticky bomb?” Jordan said as he scratched his chin.
“Sticky bomb… you just making that up sir?” Another soldier asked.
“Nah, it’s in the field manual.”
“Well, we seem to be out of field manuals perhaps you want to enlighten us sir?” The sergeant asked.
“Well, we got any explosives?”
“I brought some.. might not be enough though.”
“Alright, well…”
Jordan thought for a moment then turned back to the group that was now surrounding him.
“Ok, go downstairs and inside, see if you can find something to put Imulsion into, then what we do is take cloth or something similar wrap it around the object that’s got the Imulsion in it then coat it with axel grease, rig up a simple fuse, so that way when you throw it, it should stick, its a sticky bomb.”
The sergeant nodded.
“Alright, let’s move!” He yelled.
The group dispersed, going off to fulfill various duties.
“Think this will all work?” Ryan asked Jordan.
“I don’t know Ryan, I don’t know…”
I don't know guys, I think I'm just running out of steam or something, I feel as though this next chapter is flawed somehow. Anyways, tell me if it is, also lol, the last part is totally from the end of the movie SPR (Saving Private Ryan). lol, I thought it would be kinda neat to add in and at the same time make it the GoW universe anyways enjoy.
By the way Damon, none of it matters, write what you like, if it feels right do it, I don't care if in conflcits or anything, that's just the way Fanfic is. Anyways, I'm looking forward to it.

Nice one. You're going to make the story span from some years before ED and some years after ED? Seems like it and I love it. :)
And the sticky bombs and field manual, from Saving Private Ryan? ;D

good however in my opinion it isnt quite as good as the others, its still good though. all that i didnt like was the abrupt change in time period and the only they survived out of 2,000 part things like that always seem a little unrealistic/ cheesy. but i liked the sticky bomb part and the time when Marcus was out of ammo and the guy didnt see him. on the whole good job, im looking forward to the next part.
The reason only they have survived, although it seems cheesy is because there have been plenty of points in human history where entire armies have been wiped out in a single battle. I just wanted to show how lucky these 4 men were in that they survived. I might just go ahead and scrap the chapter. I meant to rewrite so that it seemed like it was trench fighting, with blockades and hard points that had to get through. That's what it was kinda like but I didn't quite capture that feeling.

That's what it was kinda like but I didn't quite capture that feeling.
you dont have to re-write it it mis still good... just my least favorite so far.
lol, what do I need to watch out for exactly?:( lol did I attract good attention or bad?

i think he probably means good like use it as an official story or somehting but ive just got to say that the odds of epic using as fan fic for anything more than maybe ideas are very low...
Ya I agree, I'd just like to hear what they have to say. Personally I don't see it much more than it is, Fan-fiction, which is actually the way I kinda like it cause it lets me write what I want without fear of really making loopholes in the story.
Other people have told me otherwise, but still I doubt this would turn into anything official. But hey who knows? Only time will tell on such matters.

A delightful read. It's motivated me to write my own story. Maybe I'll try and make it a full length novel and submit it to Epic for publication.

Another good chapter, not flawed
i didnt say it was flawed just not as beleivable and good as the other chapters.
Ok, on another forum someone posted, (On another site forum) that the last part of the Field of Death, was plagarised from SPR (Saving Private Ryan). I'll explain what I said on that forum. One this is fan-fiction therefore I am not really held liable for such things. Two it differes enough to not be considered plargarisim. Three I just wanted it to be put in there cause I thought it would be neat. And lastly, as for Ryan, Ryan is actually my friends name in real life and requested to be in the novel, there is no such relation between him and the movie.
Anyways, it's not an ongoing thing, as for those of you who have read a good portion of my novel, I did not get this far by copying things in other media, besides SPR, and of course I'm using the GoW universe as the setting of the story.
This is not directed to anyone on this forum, I just thought I would explain it so that if people were wondering or anything. If Epic does contact me then I will change it, along with a good portion of things in the novel. But until then it remains fan-fiction and I continue to write things that way. Once again this will not be an ongoing thing, I'd maybe expect to see some quotes or something like that, but nothing seriously plagorized.

One thing, Aria, I notice that you have a heavy referance to AFVs in your story. However, an APC was the heaviest armour seen in the game, with no referances to more heavily armoured/armed AFVs. Do your vehicles draw from GeOW vehicle designs, or are you going freelance on that?
By the way, another good chapter. Keep it up.
Yes, I know about the APC, but you also have to remember that it was called a "Junker" meaning that it was probably peiced together from other vehicles. The part with the Junker also takes place 14 years after everything, meaning stuff is harder to make due to the serious loss of industry. Another reason I beleive we didn't see AFV's in the game is cause they'd be too vunerable in the city enviroments in the game. Also, most of the firefights and battles have turned away from massive engagements and instead turned into small sqaud actions, Hence the name General Emergence Assualt Recon Squad. Assualt recon squads in its meaning means small highly specialized sqauds, something similar to special forces.
So this means that AFV's might not take presidence in the game. I just want to show how different things were prior to E-day. Alot of people asked for an open engagement, and well, because of this I made this chapter. As most of the rest of the novel will mostly be small squads fighting.
I'll see if I can squeeze in another open engagement with more people and involving the locust, but until then these 2 chapters will have to do. I also intergrated armor for another reason. For a good portion of the 20th century, and even now, armor remains a terrifying sight, when no other options to take it out are available.
Carmine, in the beggining of GoW asks if Marcus fought at Aspho fields, this is where that event takes place, and what more would make you famous if you fought against overwhelming odds, took out tanks etc...
Well, sorry for the long answer but that's why I put armor into the game. Yes, I'm only assuming that humans had AFVs prior to E-day.

grow up? im not insulting you or anything i just thought you were talking to me, srry if it struck youa s me being incredibly imature.
and i dotn see why there wouldnt be AFV's they probably would have had some but withen 14 yaers most of them would have been destroyed.

Sorry, I haven't gotten to reading to much of you're story yet...I just thought it was interesting and I read all of these posts. It seems like I am really going to have to get to reading. I am kinda writing my own story, but it is not JUST GoW, and the COG's versus the Locust is definately not the main part, just a side part-something some of the characters are going through that is tied in a way to other main events in the story. scanned over some of you'res and it i detailed. I try to detail mine, but I get to thinking of what is going to happen next, and try to hurry through the story to get to that one part. YOUR STORY IS AWSOME WITH THE PARTS I'VE READ, AND I AM GOING TO MAKE IT A GOAL TO READ IT ALL. Good job...

Actually, I am forced to believe that rather than a cobbled-together vehicle, the Junker is simply an APC minus armour and gun turrets and plus a UV turret. An examination of the vehicle will reveal 4 seats behind the driver, which would be standard for an armoured personnel carrier. Also, the frame of the vehicle is in exact shape of the APC's armoured shell.

Any word on the story?
Been a while since we've heard from you.
Yeah, sorry I'm working on it still... its been kinda rough since the holiday season is so near, been trying to find time to write but I keep constantly getting distracted. :(
Anyways, I hope to have another chapter out soon, like in about four or five days. Please forgive me by making you all wait so long, but like I said finding the time to write it has been proving difficult.

it wasnt the first story on the boards the first was Sanke's then my first then it blew up the first time. then it stopped for a while.
but anyway emergence was great and it, black asgard's and my own (hey i never said i was modest) are my faovriets on the boards. although while i draw inspiration form eveyr book, movie and game there sia fine line between drawing inspirationa dn copyign and thta oen chapter i think went over it. then again mine has chapter names from other games, booksd and songs and im going to include a nod to vietnam and the books ive read on it. and others ahve taken lines from other fanfics so the liens are blurry at best. still when you cross them it ceases to eb your own work and is pointless. thsis tory and many other sis in a grey area although thsi oen more becasue it copied not form a fanfic btu from a etsablsiehd thing. still a great read and for anyone who hasnt i highly suspect you see it a real pity it was discontinued.
edit: it still supercedes warren in veiws although not warpath

None of War Path or Warren was ever copied from anywhere else. I pride myself on that
and its close, Hat. Very close. 200 views is nothing.
excellent job hat cant keep saying it enough
Ok, well I'm back I guess, its just that no one ever really said anything on the two forums I have my novel posted on for the longest time. I also quit paritally due to the fact so many people gave me crap about the SPR part, I did it cause it was fun. People didn't understand that though I guess. Anyways I'll continue writing now that I know people haven't simply lost interest.
I will now set out on what I intended to do, make a full length novel, one that brings the war to your computer! lol
By the way Evil, awesome fanfic. :)
Without further waiting, I introduce the next chapter!
Another Day in Hell
The Pendulum Wars
Smoke billowed high into the sky above, rain drenching and extinguishing the burning wrecks and vehicles that dotted the landscape. The torrential rain had not stopped, only gotten worse. Down in the trenches below a group of soldiers awaited the coming onslaught of the enemy forces, each nervously clutching their gun.
It was evening, the sun dipped down underneath the mountains to west, leaving only the faintest bit of light.
Jordan looked out across the landscape. The trenches must have stretched for thousands of yards in both directions, for he could not see the end of them. He looked down at his gun, popping out the magazine and counting the rounds, then slapped it back in.
He peered across the trench lines; to his right were at least a dozen soldiers. Another dozen soldiers mimicked to the left. Nearby an APC rolled past, carrying a squad of soldiers. The 12th mechanized brigade had since arrived in the last several hours. The reinforcements were welcomed but according to the scouts that had been dispatched by Jordan, they were still vastly outnumbered.
However, they did have one advantage over the enemy the fact that they had a long line of trenches and defensive positions, which had been cleared out and taken from its former owners. Jordan wiped away some of the massive droplets of water away from his face, only to be discouraged when more rain replaced what he had tried to clear.
The trenches were a mess, the group of soldiers had cleaned the area of the bodies, but there were still stains and messes left from the battle several hours before. Even then mud had begun to build up along with stains of blood, the trenches were however still useable.
Ryan, who came holding a crate of grenades, brought Jordan’s attention away from surveying the lines. Jordan reached forward and grabbed one of the grenades from the box in his hand.
“What the hell is this?” Jordan said as he pointed to a piece of cloth dangling off the grenade.
“It’s just rope, it’ll help get us some better distance when throwing the suckers.” Ryan replied.
Ryan walked over too a small inlet that was dug into the trench side and dropped the crate of grenades. He sat down and, like Jordan tried wiping away the water that had accumulated on his face. He too was disheartened as it helped little. Jordan walked over to him and took a sit as well, pulling up a crate of ammo and sitting on it.
“How long we got?” Ryan asked, grimly.
“Depends, I think were looking at a night assault, not good considering we don’t have the equipment…” Jordan said looking back at trenches.
“Oh… and about the tanks?”
Jordan looked back at Ryan.
“Well from what I’ve been told we got enough to take out four, maybe five.” Jordan looked off towards an APC crew who were setting up an entrenched position, above the trench line. “Plus, whatever that thirty mil on the APC can manage to take out.”
“Thirty mil isn’t going to do much against a tank.” Ryan said with an uneasy smirk.
“No… I don’t expect it to, not unless we get close enough, or we can get behind one…”
A small flare that illuminated the sky above silenced Jordan and Ryan.
“They’re here…” both said in unison.
Both soldiers picked up their weapons, checked their ammo one last time and looked out forward onto the trenches. Ryan took aim out into the darkness.
“Didn’t think they be here so soon…” Jordan said, taking aim as well.
“Yeah, well better now when were expecting then later when were not.” Ryan said adjusting his sights to better help him in shooting in the dark.
The trench was now in a frenzy of motion as men readily aimed out towards the seemingly nothingness that was the night in front of them. Everything quieted down as men took their positions. There was a tense moment of silence. Only the patter of rain and uneasy breathing of the soldiers filled the night air.
Jordan settled into a comfortable shooting stance. Again another flare flew into the air, this time from the opposing forces direction. Suddenly brilliant flashes of light dotted the in the distance, along with it came a sound that was like thunder.
“Everyone get down!” Jordan yelled.
The soldiers in earshot of him immediately ducked a little more into the trenches. Without warning the trench line ignited with a frenzied panic as explosions tore into the line. For several moments the flashing of light blinded the soldiers who were helpless to do anything against the artillery. Then as soon as it came it was gone. The soldiers did not scatter however and instead retook positions aimed out towards the night.
The men in the trench line remained quiet. A massive roar filled the air, as hundreds of the enemy surged forth in a massive wave. Jordan and Ryan immediately took aim cutting down several as they neared the light coming from the flood lamps in the trenches.
All across the defenses the same event took place, as the soldiers cut down the enemy. More took their place however, and that’s when Jordan noticed something about the enemy’s boots. Ryan paused for a moment seeing how Jordan had stopped firing. But then he too noticed it…
Around the boots of the enemy troops were thick clumps of mud, going as high as their knee. Jordan realized what this meant and yelled out.
“Everyone retreat! Back to the second line!” He called out amongst the roar of enemy and friendly fire.
The soldiers in earshot once again reacted quickly; the others however took more time before they knew what to do. The line of soldiers peeled away from the lines, pulling themselves out of trench and abandoning the position.
One of the soldiers looked back at the trench line not knowing why the retreat was sounded. Suddenly the roar of bullets and weapons was added by another noise, that of vehicles. The enemy in the darkness opened fire, this time not with small arms, but with massive cannons. The shells slammed into the retreating soldiers, killing several groups. The soldier turned to fire a volley when a cannon round landed directly beneath him, shattering his body into pieces that flew into the air.
Jordan dove behind a box of repair parts, and slapped another round into his empty gun. Next to him, only a few yards away the pounding of the thirty-millimeter on the APC sounded, sparks of fire lighting the night with each round. Ryan dove in next to him, followed by several soldiers.
“What the hell? Why didn’t we hear the tanks come in?” One of the soldiers said.
“That’s cause they didn’t drive them up to the line.” Jordan said as he and Ryan lifted themselves above the crates and fired non-stop till they were empty.
“How the hell do you know that?” The soldier questioned.
“The mud on their boots!” Ryan said over the chatter of small arms.
“The mud on their boots?”
“Yeah, the mud means they pushed the vehicles up to the line, so they accumulated mud on their boots!” Jordan said popping in a fresh magazine.
Another soldier, a young skittish man dropped down near the small group.
“Sir! We’ve got problems!” The young man said.
“Tell me something I don’t know already!” Jordan said returning a volley of fire.
“No, I mean we really have problems! Marcus and Dom sent me, they said…”
He was cut off when the APC a few yards away exploded in a massive fireball. Jordan turned and saw an enemy tank fast approaching them. Then he saw several troopers emerge from one of trenches and slap something to the sides. They ducked for cover and seconds later the tank exploded flipping the torn metal tank onto its top before it finally exploded destroying much of the tank in the process.
“Sticky bombs, there ya go.” Jordan said fetching another magazine for Ryan.
“Sir…”
“Go on, hurry this up!” Jordan yelled.
“Like I was trying to say, Marcus and Dom sent me! They lost their section of the line and enemy saboteurs are attempting to breach the Imulsion facility! They think they’re going to Demo the place!”
Ryan looked back at the younger soldier, and then turned to Jordan.
“Demo it? I thought they wanted it?” Ryan asked.
“No, they just wanted us to not have it, I don’t think they care anymore!”
Another shell rocked the group as it landed near by.
“Ok, you guys hold here! Were going to go stop the Demo team!” Jordan yelled.
Ryan handed Jordan a grenade. They both stood up, and swung the grenades that were tied to the rope. The grenades flew far, taking out a squad of enemy troops as they assaulted forward.
“Alright let’s go!” Jordan yelled to Ryan.
Ryan nodded his head and grabbed his assault rifle and followed. The two made hasted back to the facility. By the time they got there they could already tell the Saboteurs had been there. Several soldiers already lay dead. Jordan nodded at Ryan they both went into a tactical stance.
Jordan approached the door that lead into the facility, but before he could even open it he heard a power cell power up. Seconds later Ryan opened fire at the door. Jordan backed away, angry with curiosity as to why he opened fire.
Ryan pushed open the door with one hand, on the other side laid a dead Saboteur with night vision goggles strapped firmly to his head.
Jordan did another silent nod and entered the building. Inside there was a dead silence, only the clatter of small arms and explosions emanated from outside. The place was dark; Jordan motioned his hand towards one of the stairs that led to the second level. The two proceeded up them covering each other as they did. When they got to the top they walked out into a hall that led onto a walkway.
Ryan moved forward first, walking out onto the walkway. He noticed something crouched in the dark, attaching something to one of the Imulsion flow tubes. He took aim when suddenly another figure stepped from the dark and ran something shiny and silver across his neck.
The man gasped and fell to the ground, dead.
“Hold you fire.” A voice said.
Ryan lowered his weapon and saw in the light coming in through the windows that dotted the walkway, that it was Marcus. Dom stepped out into the light as well.
“Holy ****, you guys missed all the fun.” Marcus said.
“You mean the guy at the front door who nearly blew my head off?” Jordan asked sarcastically.
“Yeah, well maybe not all of it then hehe…” Dom said looking down at the dead body.
“This was the last of…”
All four soldiers immediately turned their attention to an enemy Saboteur standing in the middle of the room. He held a small detonator in his hand; he looked down at it then looked back up with hatred in his eyes. All four raised their weapons, but it was too late the Saboteur pressed his hands together and detonated the explosive. Fire rocked the facility as the containment holds for the Imulsion buckled and exploded. The shock sent the four soldiers out the windows to the back of them.
Jordan’s vision blurred as he was thrown out and fell several stories and landed hard. He dazed and tried to collect his thoughts. Up above all he could see what Imulsion vapor as it poured into the sky, lighting it with an amber glow. For a moment he saw something beautiful, in all this war he saw something that didn’t remind him of it almost as if he saw something worth saving. Then the world went black.
* * * * *
Jordan swung forward, raising himself from his bed. He was covered with a cold hard sweat running down his face. His hands felt clammy and his stomach wrenched at the memories that had flooded through him in his dream. As his vision cleared he saw Elexis, kneeling on his bed, reaching over to him.
“Are you ok Cap?” She asked, concerned.
Jordan shook off the disorientation and looked over at his clock, it read five AM. He grabbed at his neck.
“Yeah… yeah… just another day in hell…”
Sorry if it has spelling errors, once again staying up and writing as late as I do my brain doesn't exactly register normally lol.:(
By the way there is a major flaw in this chapter... and that is that they pushed the tanks and such into position, tanks are really heavy I understand this and all so I don't think its possible but whatever, lol my grip on being able to write good has been slipping so I just figured I'd point this out so people don't say it somwhere else on the forum...

this is still one of the best and the only about a chick i i'm correct i really must read this again
Ok, well hey I'm kinda back, sort of lost interest in GoW over other games but like it doesn't mean I don't like it, I just felt people lost interest in my novel compared to some of the better ones I've seen floating around here. anyways here was a part of a sample chapter HDFLU proposed this to me here a while ago in which our stories kinda intertwined, seems he isn't here anymore but oh well. Anyways I'm going to post it, by the way this is definatly not the full written chapter lol, only the part in which I sent to HDFLU.
Jordan snapped his eyes open, outside he could hear the steady hum of the choppers as they made their way to the coast. Jordan viewed the landscape for a moment, down below was a massive industrial complex. It had yet to be ruined by the advancing horde or by the orbital guns above.
Jordan turned his attention to the Raven following beside them. Hanging over the edge with his gun slung underneath him was Lieutenant (Assuming) Xavier Cross.
Xavier was good man, and an even better soldier, he liked the guy just because he was like him, he valued people's lives and when everything was in the balance he was level headed and knew what to do.
Jordan felt concerned though, Epsilon squad, the squad under Xavier, was a rear line unit. Course this was just a routine securing. But he still worried a little.
The mission was for Charlie and Delta squad to secure a dock, which would allow Epsilon to move in and secure the warehouse to move supplies out of the area. So far intelligence had said that there wasn't any of the creatures in the area, or Locust as the human race had now decided to call them.
Xavier looked across at Jordan. He shot him a smile then saluted. Jordan smiled back and returned the salute.
The chopper moved away down towards the warehouse district.
"There goes Epsilon..." Ryan said into his earpiece.
"How long you think they'll last? 50 bucks says they get dropped this very mission."
Jordan smacked the young soldier, Private Rimice, over the head for the comment.
"Don't say **** like that." Jordan said as he scowled the young man and pointed his finger at him.
"Jordan you got nothing to worry about, Epsilon will do well, besides this all just routine, quick and easy, at least for us, let the bastards in supply worry about moving **** about, were just here to secure the place cause god knows those guys in supplies can't shoot worth anything." Ryan said as he glanced over at Jordan.
"There's never anything routine, not since that day." Jordan shot back.
Ryan shrugged his shoulders and turned his attention away. Jordan watched as Epsilon's Raven landed and unloaded the soldiers into the warehouse district. Xavier waved one last final time as he disappeared into a building, his squad following in after him.
Ok, skipping ahead to the eventual firefight that ensues.
Bullets clanged off the metal of the dock crane next to Delta squad. Ryan, along with Charlie squad were pinned, the locust ahead of them were advancing, and advancing quick.
"Ryan? Where's Epsilon at, did you see them?" Jordan yelled firmly into his earpiece.
"Yeah, I had a bead on them, they're moving away from the dock." He answered back.
"Alright, we did our job, there's too many here were sitting ducks on the pier here, let's move into cover, now!"
Jordan, along with Delta squad moved towards the warehouse that was on the docks. As Jordan ran for cover he talked into his ear-piece.
"Epsilon what is your status?" Jordan asked.
"We got one of those big bastards chasing us, its somewhere in the..."
Xavier's voice was cut off by an abrupt static.
"The berserker is where? I repeat the Bessemer is where?" Jordan yelled into the ear-piece over the incessant fire coming from the locust.
The only thing Jordan got back... was static.
Anyways on a side note, if some of you do really love my writing as much as some say they do I encourage people to tell me, cause like, if not I think I'll probably move on or something, I mean no sense writing something that people have a disinterest for. oh, also lol so sry for being gone so long then just coming back like this.

Yeah dont worry about things there is no deadlines at all. In fact now that your back we might add you to fanfic Hall of Fame. Of all the very old fanfics this is the one that is brought up again and again. I try to make personal deadlines but if not then no. Whenever you have free time and feel like writing it then write it. Dont let us control your writing. Hope to see more.
Hey guys it's been a while, well figured I poke my head out of my hole and actually bring back up my fanfic, in anycase, with Gears of War 2 around the corner I would like to announce that I will probably be writing another Fanfic novel after Gears 2 is released, probably not before however, as because Gears will be getting a more richer background I want to avoid having any clashes with the story, and therefore give the reader a real sense of the same universe. Also, I would like to add Emergence as a completed Fanfic.
The main reasons for this is that the story of Gears have evolved quite a bit since I started writing, prior to the release of the original Gears, and, alot of my writing therefore has become outdated, mostly because at the time backstory was very specultive.
In anycase to those who enjoyed my novel and wanted to see more I apologize for quiting, as I moved on to other projects. I would however like to add I will be brining back most if not all characters in Emergence and, as the guys at Epic have been doing a stunning job at evolving the plot of Gears of War, I too can evolve mine to better fit with the Gears universe.
Any and all ideas of what you'd all like to see in the new novel are apreciated cause as always I think it's best when people get to see thier ideas put into words etc, not that I want to steal any ideas so please don't think of it that way. :(
-Regards, Aria
