Hey, my friend and I are trying to co-op our way through Insane and have had little difficulty up until the Act 2 chapter "Burnt Rubber" (The driving stage). We find that the UV gun is just plain ineffective and doesn't kill the Kryll 50% of the time, even when it passes directly over them. Our best approach thus far has been to get a decent run up until the offramp, then start 'spinning' the gun and pray for the entire duration on the lower level. Then, on the rare occasions that we make it through, we get obliterated by the first swarm after the onramp. Anyone have any tips for beating this chapter on insane? We're at our wit's end, and frustration and anger are setting in.

well i did it with a friend and we just anticipated where the kryll going to appear i am sure after a few times reloading the checkpoint u will know where the kryll goin to come out.for example in the beggining part u will realised that the kryll will come out from the clocktower or something like that, get rid of all the krylll den drive on.And when u see them in the sky shoot them with the uv ray b4 they attack u. Driving well is also important try not to hit too many obstacles coz that will slow down ur vehicle.

The problem isn't with recognizing when they emerge from a point, as in the first three or four waves, but rather when they come out of the sky, as in the fifth and sixth, and last waves--there's no focal point at which a blast is effective at killing more than a few. How do you deal with those?

I managed to beat it solo on my 2nd try in Insane. Any time the kryll came I would stop under one of the street lights. Seemed to help alot.

I was having the same issue but I got through with ease after I just took it slowly. Aim the turret right in the middle of the bunches of Kryll to take out the whole swarm as soon as you spot Them. DO NOT keep on driving through. The farther down you drive the more Kryll will pop up considering they only spawn once you start to progress on the road. Then roll down the street and take out the next bunch that come out of the windows past the big clock. Drive a bit farther down and the old man will say "SIX O'CLOCK". Turn around and kill all the ones that come from the abandoned buildings from behind. Then he will say "11 O'CLOCK" so look to your front left side and take those out. Don't move forward or stop scanning for Kryll untill you hear DOm say "Clear". Once you take the exit its easy to take out the swarms that come out from under the bridge. Upon getting on the on ramp take it real slow. There will be no Kryll untill about a minute of driving then BAM you see a ton of them spawning from your upper left. Kill as many whole bunches as you can. Keep the turret kind of sweeping slightly to deter the kryll from dropping down. You make sure you watch your ass because alot of them come from behind as well here. This is the last of em so if you have the energy and guts you can power on through after a bit to make a dramatic exit to save your buddies on the otherside.

For me hardest part in the game. Anyway, if u can survive until the onramp and the first two swarms on the 2nd part of the highway you can gun it and still live.

beat it o my first try for insane on single player.all i did was stop when they yelled something and listened for chaps and dom to say 6 o clock and stuff.pretty basic.also, its very important to kill them before they get within 20 feet of you or else youre gonna have a hell of a time point blankin em.

I wasn't too crazy about this part and I'm not looking forward to doing it on insane. I just drove right through it, ignoring the kryll and using that damn excuse for a weapon.

Somehow I always get lucky. I take care of the kryll until i exit. I take care of the ones that pop out before you enter the ramp again. From there I just drive the rest of the way. Somehow I supposedly die but I end up passing that part and on to the big firefight. Sadly though I only have the lancer and the pistol with me. So I lost my frags and my loaded longshot. I've done this twice and twice it happens. Pretty cool though.

Yeah, I died right as I hit the "level ends here" line, and I still went through to the firefight afterwards. Dunno how, and dunno why. Although if it's happened to multiple people, that would have to be classified as a bug. :D

I agree with the person who said just get to the on ramp alive. If you can make it up the on ramp alive, you can just drive to the end without shooting. And it is easier on coop.

It's not, actually. On Singleplayer you can concentrate on doing both tasks at given intervals, while on Co-Op you really need to know how to co-operate with your teammate while doing it. I had it happen to me a lot of times that, in the final lap, I told the guy 'Let's make a break for it', but he still starts firing the UV in all directions...

You don't have that problem on Singleplayer. :)

I did find that quite annoying that when I drove off the ramp, my co-op player fired the UV turret and we kind of tipped off the ramp.

The trick that works for me is to stop the moment Dom and the old man cry out about the Kryll. Stand still and shoot EVERYTHING down before you continue driving. Dom will yell "Clear" when they're all gone.

This is the most common mistake people do on Co-op. One guy keeps driving into new spawns while the gunner is trying to get the Kryll that are already chasing you. On insane, this equates to some 10 or more Kryll attacking the junker at the same time, virtually insta-killing it. Don't try and outrun the kryll unless you're making a dash for the last curve.

Up until that point, stand still and kill the active spawns before driving on to trigger new ones.

I got through the entire Campaign on Insane, up until I got to the general Raam himself... at this point I gave up after dying 76 times in a row... I finally had a buddy come on-line and we tried again later and beat him easily.. :)

However when i helped my buddy go back through Campaign on Co-op the Burning Rubber mission caused us the most headaches of the entire game, because we kept having Kryll spawn right on top of the Junker, not jsut a couple but a whole spawn

I dont remember seeing or reading this thread before,:) So here's what I have to say about it.

Today I have been playing the very same level, it was me and my brother sam. We started playing, and kept on dieing before we ever got to the first ramp you jump from, I mean being slaughtered left and right by the kryll.
We even started cussing the hell outta the game and saying, "This is what ruined the game for me", "You piece of s*** turret", and even started getting mad at the junker for being so slow.

When I first saw my other brother, aaron and cousin, curt, playing it. I thought to myself, Dam that looks freakin hard,:( because they kept on driving and fireing away without stopping. As what was said earlier in this thread about stopping and killing the kryll before you advance, that really helps ALOT:) .

I was so convinced that you had to keep on moving and if you stopped, then you were going to be kryll milled, because aaron and curt had never stopped.(their deaths tallied in the hundreds)
AAAnd boOoy was I shocked when I stopped on accident, and my bro lit the hell outta those suckers, and they stopped comeing. Me and my brother sam looked at eath other and said, Soooo this is how its done, and we kept on stopping again and again, until we passed the level.

:) Me and sam were so releaved and even told aaron and curtis off for being idiots and a**holes(we were messin around and not being serious).:D Lol

Now I play through this level with ease, and even enjoy it now, looking at the scenary and admireing the graphics wasnt a possibility because I was sure of myself that if I had made it through this level alive, then I would never play it again.

In my conclusion, I think this level is one of the best levels made on the game, also like smashing crap outta things and I hope that future installments will have similar levels.:) So to Epic, Well done mates.

(Dam!! did I type all that).

Nice sigg addition.

Yeah that level had me mad for a half hour strait. It would be more fun if your junker was attacked by some boomers and drones, so I can smash them with the bumper and blow holes through attack squads.

Is the junker a military vehicle, or civilian?

XalBabe

Looks like a modified military vehicle, but can't say for sure since it's the only vehicle we have seen

It seems like it would be at least quasi-military.. since we have seen burnt out derelict cars around the city in the streets that look like regular cars we drive today.. and the junker (which they also call an APC) looks more advanced like military.

I absolutely used to HATE this level.. had so many problems with it playing co-op.. and always died or when we survived we made it through with health in the red.

However then I read this post here a while back and realized that was the secret. I then played solo and did just what you said... as soon as the Kryll spawned.. I stopped completely... used the UV turret until Dom said clear.. and then moved on to the next spawn point.. wash, rinse, repeat.

When playing co-op I find whoever is driving is just so intent on getting to the end, you don't stop at all to clear all the Kryll before activating new spawns and hence you get eaten alive.

As soon as I used this new strategy, I made it to the end with barely any health damage at all. Sure takes a lot of the frustration out of it.

BlkBullet23

Yeah, if I had seen this tread befor then all that stress would have been avoided.

In my opinion, didn't think the junker looked too civilian, because the uv turret looked like it was added on, and I dont think the civilians would have a use for that size of a vehicle.

Jadzia

and on the same note.. how 'bout that gas station where you fuel it up. If it was a regular civilian gas station for the types of burnt out civilian cars in the games it would have the regular type pumps (which we see it does have). but then it has that big old hose pump to fill up the Junker.. So are those kinds of hoses used for industrial vehicles all the time. Or is that something special in-game for that kind of junker/APC/Military vehicle? So was it not just a civilian gas station but used for fueling special vehicles as well.

In most gas stations *here on earth*, there are the smaller gasoline pumps for cars, truck, and other light vehicles, and larger diesel pumps for commercail trucks and whatnot. An arrangment similiar to Aspho/Chap's gas station.

I really think there should have been another level with the junker in it, I mean where you were driving deep into enemy territory to fill up on ammunition or something, I would love to ram some drones and even have someone else drive and shoot with your lancer at those flying things with locust riding them, you know the ones that you fight on the train level.

Well, yes, they're the same size here as well, but that is only because the fuel tanks are below ground. The pump that Marcus uses to fuel the Junker has an above-ground fuel tank. My guess is that it was only put there for dramatic effect, seeing as what happens if you shoot at it. Otherwise, the "regular" Imulsion tanks may take up all available space underground, as gas stations in a city are rather rare (and they would have to be able to store large quantities of Imulsion to supply the city's constant demands)

Maybe attach a Hammer of dawn gun on it, or even run over a berserker. I dont think one of those heavy mammas could rock the junker.:)

I dont know about you but I would want to drive one while you were being chased by a corpser, then there would be some action packed gameplay while you fill it with your bullets. And this time killing one for real and not by having it die by falling.:p

You know what.. call me stupid.. but what happens if you do shoot the tank at the gas station enough? all I've done was shoot the propane tank to make the car fall to give me cover for the Locust attack. but when the old man says not to shoot the fuel tanks I don't. I don't really know, as I've never shot at it too much. The old Stranded whined about it, so I didn't bother.

If you shoot the Junker enough, though, the entire facility blows up. It's quite interesting. I recall shooting at it quite a bit just to see what the old guy would say, and it started on fire and blew up.

I dont understand why they would use the same power source to power the junker and the UV turret at the same time?

They should have had something seperate, like a battery made to power the turret by itself, unless there was no more room for that.

Unless the junker was meant to be at a neutral position to fire the uv light, like as if it would shut everything down in order to light itself. But I can see how it would effect single player mode, maybe if they had the computer A.I. to do the driving on a pre-determined driving route, while you shoot the baddys. Kinda like how the rail cart section does.
But when playing single player, If you moved to the next section the kryll would fly sideways and join the next group of kryll or not even join at all.

So, anybody have comments? :)

After many tries I learned three things that eventually helped me beat this level on insane.
1) Where the Kryl spawn. That way you can shoot them down before they reach you.
2) How far you have to drive to make them spawn. It has already been pointed out that you don't want to trigger more Kryl until it's all clear. Don't bite off more than you can chew.
3) When you can stop shooting and make a run for the finish line.

Cool.. thanks man. I was playing that level again last night (first time trying it on insane by myself!) and didn't bother trying to blow it up to see what would happen.

Instead I almost $hit my pants.... cause I stayed inside the gas station sniping locust while Dom was running around outside and getting himself killed. And I couldn't get the Boomer killed in time before the wretches came inside after me.. I killed them all but the Boomer kept advancing and he came right inside the room.. I was freaking out and screaming like a girl (but I am a girl so it's okay.) My husband and his friend were watching me and laughing their heads off. I ran into the 2nd room in the back and luckily the Boomer lost interest in me.. turned around and the old man finished him! It was the best scene ever!

I would assume that the most obvious solution is the correct one:

Motor vehicles have alternators, which recharge the battery, which powers the electrical systems of the car. A UV turret would use an incredible amount of juice to run, so the engine of the Junker can no doubt only be hooked up to the alternator or the transmission, unlike an earthly vehicle. No normal behicle can operate without electrical power, as electricity is used for computer systems, sparkplugs, (on gasoline engines) lights, etc. etc. among many other things.
