Chainsaw FAQ:

Hey guys I did some experimenting with the Chainsaw and I found some interesting information that some of you might be interested in.

To start.

1) The magic number of shots to take down an opponent's chainsaw is specifically three ammo shots. Does not matter if its the lancer, hammerburst, or COQ pistol. Now timing is everything. You have to shoot the three shots fast and effective. Roughly under two seconds or your opponents chainsaw will not lower. He will just continue to run. Now weapons such as the shotgun roughly takes one "good" hit and I mean good. Sometimes two. The flamethrower just needs one quick push of the trigger which will use two of its ammo. Cool thing about the flamethrower is that it's so powerful that if you land two ammo shots your opponent is pratically dead. The Boltak Pistol only needs one shot to disrupt an opponent's chainsaw. Now I will not discuss the other weapons because if you hit an opponent its not going to matter if they have the chainsaw out because they will be dead. (ex. boom and torque.)

2) If you are trying to chainsaw someone and they knock your chainsaw down you have to wait three seconds before chainsawing again. The reason is that if you try to chainsaw under three seconds you will stumble back again such as if your chainsaw got lowered again. Why this happens I do not know. It just appears to be a glitch.

Now I will talk about the vision of the person trying to chainsaw.

3) If you have your chainsaw up and you have an enemy close by. Roughly two to three feet in front of you. You will pull them in and turn them into kibble and bits.

4) If you have your chainsaw up and your opponent is right up against you and 90 degrees left from your vision (or directly left of your character) you will chainsaw them.

5) That fact is not the same if your opponent is on your right. If your opponent is on your right side. They have to be roughly 45 degrees from your right. If they are directly to your right (or 90 degrees) you will not chainsaw them automatically. I assume that this is the proper angle that you should be at when chainsawing someone. Which means that Epic will have to fix number 4 to make it more balanced.

6) Another fact that I found strangely odd is that sometimes when you are shooting someone who is revving up their chainsaw they will not lower it. This is obviously a glitched. I have killed people revving in my test and they never lowered their chainsaw in the process.

7) The strangest glitched that I found while performing this test is related to number 6. If your opponent indeed is not bringing down his chainsaw when you shoot him, you can actually walk up to him and shoot your lancer while he's revving and you two will automatically enter a duel when your close enough. How I found this out. I had a test dummy that just stood there revving his chainsaw while I continued to shoot and got directly in front of him. I find this glitch on and humerous and cant wait till epic finishes it.

NEWEST ISSUES WITH FIXES

"SERIOUSLY" ACHIEVEMENT NOT ACHIEVED

According to poster PunkLivz found here (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25325696&postcount=349), Mark Rein states the following regarding SERIOUSLY achievement errors:

"Here is what our Gears of War producer, Rod Fergusson, replied when someone asked about not getting the "Seriously" achievement which probably applies similarly to your question...

I’m assuming that you’re taking your kill count from the Leaderboards. Unfortunately the number on the Leaderboard doesn’t necessarily reflect your progress towards the "Seriously..." achievement, although it’s usually very close. Due to the way Ranked Matches work, if a match is aborted (either by you or the host quitting before it’s complete), if enough rounds have been played then those will get counted towards the Leaderboards but because the match was not fully completed, those kills will not count towards the "Seriously..." achievement. Over time this usually means that there is a small difference between the number on the Leaderboards and your achievement count.

Nothing it broken, you just need to keep playing for a little while longer in matches that go all the way to the end and you will ultimately get the achievement."

Accord to ExpLiciTSainT in the post found here (http://forums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25475734&postcount=413): "if you enable QoS in your router to allow Xbox traffic priority 1 versus computer traffic of priority 255, you will to make your response time for your Xbox a lot snappier. Did this in my house for all devices. Works great!"

According to VINRage in the post found here (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25480713&postcount=11) there is a language fix as follows:

"So, the story is like that, i have a Polish version of game, my friend got russian (dont know how to spell it) version of game. And we both didn't hear the voices of our chracter AND VOICES at the end of the round !

And now, I (briliant guy ;D) though "maybe it's because of languange" so i went to.:

D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries

opened a lang.txt and it looks like this.:

0414
0409

So, if u have ORYGINAL copy of Gears of War in other languange than English, u wont hear the voices of other characters until ur lang.txt file will have only "0409" written in it. So it will look like that.:

0409"

A. CONNECTION QUALITY MESSAGES SINCE PATCH


1.)Usually these messages appear, not because your connection quality has dropped, but because someone has decided to leave the match. Whereas prior to the patch you would just see a "______ left" message, now everyone's player freezes and you get the connection error. If this happens, WAIT FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS for the message to clear.
a)Tip: I don't know if this happens when connection quality actually drops, but with this above error you can still always hear your other players. Tell them to wait it out for a second, see what happens.
b) Addendum - Thanks to Hickeroar for clarification - Not everyone has this issue when players drop in matches.
c) Addendum part deux - Sir Fuzzles comments that it appears the connection bug occurs when something shuts off their xbox while still in the room. I.E., that if you just quit the match that no message appears except the regular *xxx quit***

B. VGA ISSUES SINCE THE PATCH UPDATE!!!! FIXED WITH RECENT PATCH!!!

OLD ISSUES WITH FIXES

I. Mic problems - UPDATE!!!! FIXED WITH JANUARY PATCH!!!

II. Connection Problems - Unknown definitive cause at this time.
1.) Make certain the firmware on your router is up to date. UPDATE: RECENT MICROSOFT UPDATE HAS AFFECTED SOME ROUTERS. PLEASE UPDATE FIRMWARE IF YOU ARE GETTING "FIREWALL" SETTING ERROSR UNEXPECTEDLY Reference (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=24809574&postcount=4)
2.) This error is potentially due to closed ports on the router, again seethis (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2006/01/02/xbox-live-connection-problems-heres-a-tip/)page for help.
3.) When searching for matches, try and join a match which is less than almost full. Disconnect errors have been attributed to matches being full. As there is no "match too full" error, you only can get a generic "disconnected from host" error.

III. Getting Split-Screen Multiplayer online to work with one Gold and on non-Gold member:
1) This post (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=24682416&postcount=2) suggests "What you want to do is have only one player signed in (gold member). Then, go into versus > xbox live > player match - once you get to the menu that asks you to either host a game, find a custom game, or quick match, thats when the second player should press Y and then the guide should show up. Scroll down untill you see guest." (thanks to ban381)

IV. Host Manipulation/Stand By hacks

V. VGA with non-widescreen monitor. UPDATE: SEE NEW PROBLEMS WITH VGA ABOVE

VI. - Dish Best Served Cold Accomplishment not achieved.
UPDATE!!!! FIXED WITH JANUARY PATCH!!!

VII. - Chainsaw glitches
1) Chainsawing someone while in cover/close to an object leaves you stuckUPDATE!!!! FIXED WITH JANUARY PATCH!!!
1) Chainsawing thin air leading to dismemberment - (more a visual glitch than anything. USE THE FORCE FENIX)
2) Invincible chainsaw - I really don't know if this is a glitch, considering the animation takes so long, it might just be a balancer. In fact, I rather like that you can't be harmed while chainsawing someone, but some might consider it a glitch. My vote goes for keeping it, because if you're going to get smashed afterwards, it'll happen regardless of the three second wait for it. Now, go an abuse the trick with abandon ;-)

VIII - Getting stuck while switching weapons glitch (may work for other "stuck" glitches). Switching between weapons can sometimes "free" you from these circumstances. I can verify this as I got stuck last night and just had to switch out and back with my weapons. Seems to happen when you grab a new weapon and then boost into cover quickly.

IX - Melee glitches: - (Thanks to aldenceise in his thread here (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=556841))
1. after a grenade tag, if the tagged individual is downed to the ground the explosion from the grenade doesn't kill him.

2. when someone's doing a barrel roll and gets meleed in the process there's no stun effect. i'm surprised not a lot of people have caught on to rolling into people with the shotgun by now.

3. may not be a bug, but meleeing with the hammer of dawn neither seems to stun nor does nearly as much damage as any other weapon, including pistols.


X - LAG Issues -
a) Host Shotgun seems more likely to gib/kill in certain cases.
b) Bullets take 2-3 seconds after firing to reach their target

These issues are, for the most part, seem to most likely be related to connection issues. I've experienced both, but only intermittently. For the most part everything seems to run well, though I've seen enough mentions of this to include it here. Any advice beyond upgrading your internets is appreciated.

XI - General Glitches - Randomly not recording achievements, not allowing insane mode to be played after completing hardcore, Pushable cars get stuck sometimes, general collision detection bugs. There probably will not be any quick and easy fixes for these, many may be due to the various random errors that come with any release. Will post any fixes if anyone PM's me, other wise will just leave this here as a general notification.

******How to help your computer and internet run more efficiently*********
DISCLAIMER: I am not a computer person, and these are just things I've found from searching around internet and what works for my system. If anybody has a better grasp and suggest other things, please PM me! I'll update as info comes in, thanks!

There have been some people talking about lag issues around here, and though this may be due to factors beyond your control (you live in a high use neighborhood and there's not enough bandwith to go around, a squirrell is chewing on the cable outside, things of that nature), there are some things you can do to help yourself out.

1) If you have more than one device connected to the network, another computer, another wireless device, it can slow you connection down. I've noticed this at my home, and even have had some dropouts when my girlfriend on the computer and I'm online too. Anything that's connected to your network might POSSIBLY be interrupting your connection

2) Make sure (if you can) to change your wireless settings (if you're connecting wirelessly) to the 802.11a setting. This avoids interference that often comes with the 802.11b or 802.11g settings from other devices such as remote controls.

3)CHECK YOUR COMPUTER FOR SPYWARE, MALWARE, AND REGISTRY BUGS. This is one that seems kind of obvious but I don't think many people necessarily think about it terms of internet connection. If you have 50 little spyware programs each reporting just a teeny bit of information back to wherever, it's going to slow down your connection (and your computer). If your computer is using the same bandwith, this could be interfering with your fragging. Not good. Here's some things to help:

HELPFUL PROGRAMS

1) AVG Antivirus (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/lng/us/tpl/tpl01)- FREE - This is an excellent anti-spywar/malware applications. Catches things that Ad-Aware seems not to.

2) Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php) - FREE - A great and widely used anti spyware program.

3) http://www.liutilities.com/products/registrybooster/Registry Booster - NOT FREE - This is a program that searches your registry for corrupt files, fragmentation errors. Can help your computer run much more smoothly, though it does cost a bit.

after speaking with some people from epic I updated my firmware on my router (wrt54g) since then I have not had any problems connecting or people connecting to my games. Big improvement.

Might want to include the gigantic complaint that everyone has with the MP lobby system (or complete lack thereof)... of course doing so may get your thread closed ultimately, but it's certainly the #1 concern on many people's minds.

Yeah, I'm kind of in a quandry about that one. As there's no official, or even un-official fix yet, I'm hesitant. However, if it'll stop people posting a bajillion threads I'll post it as "unresolved" until official word comes so people can just check here first.

Several times during multiplayer I've suffered from a severe issue with the chainsaw. I'll go up to chainsaw somebody, and then instead of killing them, it merely downs them and I am stuck and cannot move. Very sucky, and very annoying. This has happened to some of my friends as well and seems to be a rather common occurance.

I was playing on the map(Not sure of the name) the one with the Sniper Rifle in a garage type building and it has a helicopter.

I was taking cover on a wall in the garage and got stuck. All I saw wasa grey screen. I can still shoot and see all my weapons but couldn't move. I don't think the other team could eve see me, cause I was getting shot at right before it happened and I was still alive during this whole process until the last guy on my team killed them all. If not it would have been a draw casue they couldn't see me.

heres an issue. stats not posting. i have only had 1 or 2 games post stats since friday. i have dropped from 98 to 225 on the eladerboard because of it

I've only seen it once or twice, but there's a bug where you can fall through the floor when you jump off a short ledge. I've seen it happen in the warehouse.

There's also a minor glitch with the chainsaw where if you start chainsawing someone and they dodge or run away before you get like 10% into their body, they'll dodge/run away, but will still get chopped to pieces and die from the chainsaw while the chainsawer saws away at the air.

Heh, speaking of the chainsaw, the getting stuck after chainsawing someone bug just happened to my friend while I was posting this..

it appears the stats not posting issue is only if you host a game. the host does not get any stats recorded.

i just played 4 games, i took turns hosting and not hosting. in any game i host i do not get stats for. if i play and some one else is the host i get stats for it.

serious issue as when you play in some one elses game you tend to play against teams of friends.

I've been getting fairly frequent "disc unreadable" errors (about six so far). My GoW disc is clean and free of scratches, and my 360 does not have a history of such issues. This error generally occurs during single player, when the drive seems to be in heavy use as the next scenario is loading. There is no single area of the game where the error occurs, and I have successfully loaded every part of the game at some point. From what I have read on other forums, different boxes can perform differently with the same disc.

Did you guys ask the 360 to jack up the read speed or something? I'd rather have it chill out a little and give me a brief loading bar.

I posted this in another thread, not too sure if it belongs here but I'll repost it anyway:


Gears of Wars has crashed on me quite a number of times, about 5 times just in 2 days. It was enough to worry me.

I also encountered some other problems that are pissing me off. First off, I completed the game on hardcore difficulty alone. But for some reason, my achievements did not get unlocked for most of the acts. The only achievements I got were the ones with killing a Berserker, RAMM, etc., and I got CASUAL achievements for Act1 and Casual + Hardcore for Act4. NONE for the other achievements, even though I completed all acts on hardcore difficulty. That's not the end of my problems...I also can't replay the game on Insane difficulty for whatever reason. It's greyed out on my difficulty screen, and I really want to play it on insane. I also cannot choose to replay certain acts when I try to load other chapters.

On addition to the achievements bug I have, I played insane difficulty via XBL co-op since it's the only way for me to play it and it didnt unlock any insane Act achievements either.

If someone has solutions for me to have insane difficulty playable without doing co-op, I'd like to hear it. I'm not too concern with my achievements but I have a feeling they're the reason why I cant choose insane

I've found 2 glitches, that i haven't tried to reproduce yet.

1.) I started with a lancer, enemy picked up the boomshot. the enemy fired one rocket at me, then i killed him. I picked up his boomshot, saw they was only one round left, and picked my lancer back up. From this point on until the end of the round I didn't have to reload my lancer. I don't think it was lag. This was on the map with all cars in the middle(forget the name).

2.) Don't remember this map name either. Its the one with the heli-pads and the longshot in semi container. I go to pickup this gun pressed A instead of X and rolled through the boxes at the back of the trailer off the map. Eventually the game autosuicided me.

I'll update map names when I get home.

Small chainsaw problem that happens to me often. When chain sawing someone, their body bursts into pieces instantly, and instead of the chainsaw animation happening with me chain sawing someone else, it looks as if my character is getting chain sawed (shaking wildly, etc). Then the animation ends, I'm fine, and can go on moving again.

I think it happens more often when two players rush each other with the chain saw. It's just confusing....

yeah I was playing on a decent team last night for a while, then out of nowhere.... one of our guys mics just cut out for the duration of the evening.
Kinda hindered the tactics a wee bit... like playing a piano and one finger doesn't respond lol

I've got an issue with randomly being signed out of Live when attempting to join a match (unranked) or during a match. This does not happen when playing online co-op (that I can tell).

Hello,

While I was playing online, I went to select my shotgun, and my player got stuck in the animation. I was running around with no weapons out unable to kill anyone or switch to my shotgun, grenades, or pistol, it was actually kinda funny. My teammate however told me to switch back to the rifle, then back to the shotgun and it worked fine.

Note for Epic- Chainsaw Stuck glitch - noticed this last night on mansion. I rolled past a player on the left, and he chainsawed me pointed 90 degrees away. No animation, I just instantly was cut in half like a shotgun had blasted me. Then the guy who chainsawed me was stuck in one place. One thing of interst is I was the host, so perhaps the chainsaw glitch is a lag issue, with the game trying to "compensate" for the lag between host and client players.

Also while playing with Epic on "Emergence Day", again on mansion I wasn't able to curb stomp a player, almost in the same exact area the chainsaw glitch occured (on top the stair directly inside from the spawn). Epic 4 ran over and he couldn't curb stomp the player either...it wouldn't give the "X" curb stomp icon for either him or I.

Other than those two glitches I seen over the course of 50-75 games, I've seen nothing else weird except for the chainsaw animation lag causing some very flustrating situations where you get cut up 10 feet from a player. I've noticed the occurance seems worse when I host, which is strange. I've also been cut in half by shotguns from 8-10 feet in execution with the enemy telling me he was in disbelief as on both our screen we were 10 feet away and he cut me in half with a single shot.

The only problem I have had is the microphone issues. Sometimes I can hear everyone and they can't hear me. Sometimes I can't hear anyone and they can hear me. I'll definately give the afformentioned suggestions a try tonight.

Other than this I haven't experienced any mentionable glitches.

One time when I was playing online MP, I used the roadie run then I switched to my grenades for a second then I switched back to my Assault rife and something really weird happened. Well, when I went to aim my Assault rife instead of just having a normal reticule I also had the Grenade aiming system over the normal Reticule. I was like what the hell the first time I saw it, I tried to switch weapons back and forth to get it to go away, but it didn't go away. So the only way I fixed it was by Roadie running again.

It was a weird glitch that I haven't heard much about so, I was just curious if anyone else has encountered this glitch?

I didn't read through the thread so sorry if this one has been said before:
On clockwork- I just curbstomped a guy right below a barrier (just below and to the left of the troika if you're facing the front of the troika).

I crouched in cover right after and attempted to mantle the barrier and I feel through the map.

Everything was black and if I looked up I saw a white-ish ceiling. I could still shoot, change weapons, zoom, aim, etc.
The other team couldn't find me (I was the last person alive on my team) and I eventually had to throw a grenade which hit a wall(?) in the blackness that surrounded me and I suicided to end the round.

Then- next round- I'm back to the spawn area and everything is back to normal. When it first happened I actually thought my 360 froze or was having a graphical glitch, but I could hear people walking above me and I could still do all the things I mentioned above.

Weird.

i'm not sure if this is a bug, but meleeing with guns - the only gun that doesn't seem to stun is the hammer of dawn. may be as intended, maybe not. it's just not the same melee'ing with that as it is with a pistol/rifle/boomshot/longshot. would think a hammer of dawn would have more stun effect than pistol whip.

The only problem I have had is the microphone issues. Sometimes I can hear everyone and they can't hear me. Sometimes I can't hear anyone and they can hear me. I'll definately give the afformentioned suggestions a try tonight.

Other than this I haven't experienced any mentionable glitches.

Quick update,

The techniques listed in the first post on fixing mic problems helped out alot. I was never out of communication with my comrads.

One other thing that helped was having your mic unplugged when joining the game. Then wait to plug it in once your in the gameplay.

I would like to state my opinion about why the current state of the chainsaw makes it an undesirable element of online play.

Before all of you chainsaw freaks start getting all uppity, let me say this: I think the chainsaw is a great weapon in online play as it is balanced out by the shotgun. However, it is VERY glitchy right now and downright annoying.

Here are my main gripes:

(1) Once the chainsaw animation starts your character is "sucked in" and even if you did make a last second dive you are still going to end up in chunks on the floor. It has become a common occurence for me to hear that ominous buzz of the chainsaw, hit A to dive away quickly, my character dives away and is no longer near the chainsaw guy, only to see blood splattering on my screen. This leaves me dumbfounded. Ummm... I am not near him anymore. I have two video examples of this - on one occasion it happens to me and on another I witness it happen to my teammate. I will post these once I get them edited. This has nothing to do with lag (or any other sort of connection issue) and everything to do with the chainsaw animation.

(2) The animation gives the chainsawer a coat of armor while tearing apart his victim. When you chainsaw someone, you leave yourself open to attack - OR AT LEAST YOU SHOULD. If I walk up to a guy chainsawing and shoot him point blank with a shotty he is fine. You have to wait for the animation to end before you can take him down. This is CRAP. You should be able to attack when your opponent chooses to come out of cover and leave themselves so vulnerable. In fact, you should be able to obliterate the chainsawer and save your teammate. This game is great in that every weapon can be countered but this aspect of the chainsaw dillutes the gameplay quite a bit - especially considering everyone's obsession with the chainsaw.

(3) I am sure this has happened to all of you. You hear the buzz, turn around, bring up your reticule and shoot your weapon to stun the chainsawer. Most of the times this works, but sometimes the chainsaw animation trumps the would-be-stun and you get sawed. I will also post example of this when I have time.

Basically, the chainsaw animation is the real problem here. The visual effect of sawing someone in half is amazing but when it disrupts the quality and/or fairness of online play the game ultimately suffers. If this game is ever to become competitive, these glitches need to be fixed for the Lancer to survive the cut (no pun intended). Otherwise you will see the 6-burst rifle take center stage, which is likely but that is beyond the scope of this thread.

I normally don't post but, as I have revently come to learn, there is nothing more frustrating than sitting out of a game after a cheap death (this is why I equate the chainsaw to Halo's noob combo). Please post serious comments or discuss any other chainsaw glitches you have noticed.

**PLEASE NOTE** I am not hating on the chainsaw as a whole, as highlighted above, but would like to see alterations to its functionality and integration into online gameplay.

I think the lunge distance on the chainsaw and the grenade tagging is too large (its about 6ft?). This may be necassary to allow for the client side network prediction code that must be in use (since I can play (UK) with someone in california with no apparent lag) - however weapon melee seems to require closer range, so it must be possible.

A couple of bugs I have found:

Act2 Pushing the car:

Pushed the car all the way up the road and got killed then resterted lvl and tried again but the car would not move more than a few feet. Restarted the game and same happend.

Act 2 again: Getting "loading" while trying to accomplish the above in that part of the lvl.

MP: Had a few times where the renders on my character do not show up (flat graphics shaders)

This happened to me also. But if you stand at the end of the train and make the berserker charge you, jump away at the last second and she will fall off and die.

I doubt there's any quick solution beyond making sure your connection is solid. What kind of connection are you running? Are you using cable, dsl? Do you have a wireless network? Are there any other devices on your network besides the 360?

in playing co-op on live with a friend, we got to the stranded's gate area. i went over to pick up the cog tags behind the newspaper/mailboxes and couldn't get the "x to pick up" icon. started over from the beginning just so i could pick up the cog tags and i never picked this one up. my friend was able to so i just let him take them. i'm wondering if it was a glitch or what. this also happened in act 2 in the shed where one of the propane containers were. i was simply never able to to get the icon to pick them up. has anyone else seen this glitch? is it even a glitch?

Please forgive me if this has already been posted.

In Gears of War Multiplayer it is incredibly hard to get clan matches going or just get in the same room with your friends. The rooms fill up incredibly fast so it makes it hard for your friends to find the room you're hosting. And since there is no way to boot someone, you have to ask people (nicely) to leave so your friend can enter. This doesn't always work because sometimes people (understandably) don't want to leave...this unfortunately results in the host closing the room – in which case no one gets to play. It would be great if there was a pre-lobby for clans to get together before entering multiplayer or just a way to reserve spots on COG or Locust for friends only. Thanks guys. Great game.

I and several other people have had problems with game stats updating on the leaderboards. 3/4 Of the time I cannot recieve stats after completing a game. Is there a patch in the process or will there be in the near future?

hey hooah7, you can reserve private spots in unranked games that you host. you also have the ability to boot people. have you hosted a game? because when you first set up the options it lets you keep spots private and even after a few rounds you are able to boot specific players. any host can do this in player matches. this isn't possible in ranked matches.

Is it me or is there no way to change gametype/map once the youve started hosting a session (private player match)

Host option is there, but all it will let me do is kick players not change any settings

Is this a known issue? Are epic looking into fixing it?

It's a known "issue" (annoyance). Epic has been made aware of it. No word has been passed back to us lowly gamers about what they plan to do about it, if anything.

sometimes stats from the previous rounds get stuck on my screen into the next round without touching "back"... each time i've been able to fix it just by tapping "back".

also, sometimes if you have a grenade path reticule pulled up and switch weapons, it will keep a grenade reticule for that gun as well, pretty funny... i was able to fix it each time by switching weapons a few times and tapping "L", hasn't occurred recently, i think it's only when you switch immediately from holding "L" with nades out to another gun

OK here are a few of the major bugs and balance issues as I see them and my suggestions on what to do about fixing them.

1)Grenade tagging: Majorly imbalanced due to numerous factors. First the range is too high alowing tags outside of melle range. Secondly there is no delay before tagging and thirdly there is no reliable way to stop a tagger due to these 2 factors before you have been tagged and thus killed. Allso the stun when tagged makes it even harder to kill a tagger before your death even by rolling into them with there own nade. Allso if you do manage to do this the game will go to them even if everyone dies. Allso it is sometimes possible to tag someone well after beeing locked into a chainsaw animation which kills them unlike other glitched shots which do not kill your attacker.

The Fix: Put an animation in where the player trying to tag must raise his arm and bolo the grenade much like a chainsaw attack requires and allow the tagger to be stunned while doing this. The advantage to grenades over the chainsaw will be that they are aoe AND there will still be the stun but you can quickly excape unlike when sawing. This simply allows a means of stopping a nade tagger without getting tagged in the process or prayng for a miracle 1 shot with shotty from outside normal 1 hit kill ranges.

2)Chainsaw Immortality:A player is unkillable during the chainsaw animation.

The Fix: Simply kill any player at the end of the animation if they took lethal damage from anyone other then the victim during it. This allows them there kill and prevents abuse like when I killed 3 playes and allmost a fourth all shotgunning me at pointblank via chainsaw immortality and rolling.

3)Quitters: The quit rate is far to high and ruins most matches after the 2nd or 3rd round.

The Fix: If any player quits or disconnects more then twice in a rolling 5 game period they must wait 15 minutes before joining another game. Any players who have a legit emergency requiring them to actually leave a game will probably not be effected but players who routinely quit out because there losing will have to think twice about it.

Allso it is entirely too hard to figure out who quit out of a game because while your playing you can't be expected to memorize 6 names and find a 7th and after the game is over most all of them quit out. Players who quit should still appear in the lobby with a star next to there names for quick and easy reviewing.

Might want to include the gigantic complaint that everyone has with the MP lobby system (or complete lack thereof)... of course doing so may get your thread closed ultimately, but it's certainly the #1 concern on many people's minds.
The only people who want to see a change in the lobby system it seems are just big Halo 2 fans. The way I see it they don't like it because it's different/unfamiliar and they don't like change.

The lobby system that people keep banging on about (as they have nothing better to do) is fine how it is, all be it lacking in ability to change options once started. You can invite people into your games as you wish or remove ones you'd rather not play with.

On another note:

Whats the point in having a Halo 2 like "Party" option when you can only have 4 players on one team as it is and 8 in total including the oposition??

As for the problem SOME people are having with not being able to join lobbies etc, (I have not experienced this problem & have yet to come accross anyone who says they have or had problems) I would like to bet this is also down to their routers firmware or most likely their routers NAT settings as this does not only affect voice chat.

I had problems getting into games on PGR3 until I set up a NAT Pinhole through my router to my 360 consoles IP.

Alternatively you could if possible just set the NAT setting on your router to open and have done with it.

My only complaint with playing GoW online is the voice issue, which as has already been stated many times is not a problem with the game, but with Microsoft.

Now I'm not saying the game is perfect yet, but why don't we all just get on and enjoy this awsome game. Its the most fun ive ever had on a shoot-em-up, I have been converted from racing games to this, Halo or Halo 2 could'nt do it!

Well, that's not exactly the case and certainly not something you can back up with facts, but whether they are halo 2 fans or not, let me address your question as to why this is such a highly desired feature:

The current lobby system does allow you to invite friends into a game you host, as you suggest, the problem then resides with the fact that you then have to wait for your room to populate (which can take a very, very long time, particularly for non-default host settings). This is made worse by the fact that typically your room will fill with random people joining one at a time (because they can't join as a group). The result: a game with a team of friends against a team of most likely randoms.

Your other option is to send one friend to join a game in progress. Upon joining the friend sends invites to his 3 buddies (including you) to join the game quickly. Assuming everyone gets in before the game fills up, the next challenge is trying to explain to the host and everyone else in the room that you want to be on the same team as your friends (not to mention the fact that if you join mid-game you're automatically split to opposite teams usually). If you don't get booted and can actually talk the host and everyone else into switching teams around so you can play with your buddies then you're good to go, but the rest of the time (most of the time) you're going back to square one to try again.

When we get into talking about playing ranked games with friends it becomes even more ridiculous (i.e. hunting the server lists for your friends name to join his game). This is cause for even more biased games and in a setting where bias actually means something (i.e. rank).

If you think that these options really are the best way to get on and quickly be able to get into games quickly with your friends against other teams of friends then by all means keep defending it. However if you, like most other people who have people on their friends list, are interested in getting into the most "good" games quickly and being able to do so with friends on your team then I really can't see how or why you would defend the current system so strongly.

It's a moot point at the moment, but Epic is addressing the issue and I wouldn't be too surprised to see something different implemented in the future to allow people like myself, and the many, many others out there who want to easily play on a team with their buddies.

One last point: Please don't try to turn this or any other issue into a GoW vs. Halo 2 (or any other game) battle. Which game you like better is not the issue here, the only issue is the desire for an easier lobby system which allows for quick and easy play with friends.

it's just a silly game when you have everyone blasting their shotguns from distances that any other game would require you to pull out a machine gun. i mean running around close distances with a shotgun ripping people is fun, but when everyone is doing it, when everyone is rolling around blasting this stupid thing all over the place it just becomes silly, especially from great distances

it needs to be turned down, or maybe balanced better with the lancer.

the lancer needs to be more powerful. its almost a completely worthless shooting gun at times.

you shouldn't have to empty a clip on someone sometimes and have them not go down

Epic I love Gears of War. I know you will fix most of the bugs. All I would like to see fixed the the Lobby System. It sometimes takes up to 1 hour to find a good game where the teams are balanced. Some type of matchmaking would make this game near perfect.

As a fan of Epic and Gears of War, I'm going to list what I have found to be the most disconcerting multiplayer issues.

I'm going to start with one that I don't believe has been mentioned.

Certain guns fire erratically when not aimed with the L trigger. This is fine and all, however other guns fire perfectly straight without using the aim button and even when blind-firing. Now theoretically, the fact that there is no aiming crosshair or reticule when spraying your gun or blind firing should balance this out, however many people have found that simply sticking a piece of tape on the screen can make them Gods in this game. I have personally experimented with it and a piece of tape as an artificial reticule + pistol, shotgun, or boomshot = ultimate power.

What I suggest is perhaps requiring that all guns fire in erratic directions when not aimed with the L trigger. If this is poossible through some sort of update then that would be great.

My other complaints are probably things youve mostly already heard. I'd like for both the dead and the living to be able to speak in between rounds rather than just at the end of the match.

I'd like some sort of matchmaking service even if only for clans and even if it only uses one game type with a simple cycle through the maps.

I'd like for that damn grenade tags "tagging-distance" to be cut in half, and perhaps have a well-timed melee or chainsaw override a grenade stick, thus forcing the tagger to remain stealthy .......... and of course making a grenade tag be a skill to be proud of, and something the reciever of one should be ashamed of. rather than the way it is now where picking up grenades basically ensures the user atleast one free kill, and annoys the heck out of everyone else.

All in all, what i think you guys have created is one of, if not THE best multiplayer experience I've ever played and this is by no means a complaint about the game. Just a suggestion for a possible future update.

Oh ya, better stat recording and possibly even awards or medals distributed after matches (goldeneye/halo style) would be very nice as well.

These might of been posted before, I'm not sure though.

Glitches:

-50% of the time, I can't armyroll off the top of a ledge, theres like an invisable wall there.
-I can't walk off a short ledge if im strafing to the side, sometimes even If i'm facing the end of the ledge.
-If i'm taking cover and want to hop over the cover(if it's low enough) and I'm next to another player, it won't let me hop the ledge, my character plays the animation, then suddenly jolts back to the cover position. I don't think that lag is the cause of this, it happens every time under these conditions.

-In split screen mode, sometimes my character keeps firing when the trigger isn't down. He won't stop firing until the clip is out and he reloads. It doesn't happen in single player(and no, my controller isn't sticky, it's happened with all 4 of my controllers, and with other friends of mine).

The other day I revived a person who was down before they were being curbed stomped and while they were up and moving, their head exploded as if I never revived them though I still got credit for it. That and the 6 foot grenade tag was completely out of control.

Well the theme has the "I played on Emergence Day" title on the bottom. So if you missed emergence day then it wouldnt make too much sense to have it.

I've seen some weird stuff happen in the situations where there's multiple downs/revives happening at the same time. Like, sometimes you shotgun people when their chainsawing you, and even though they seem to die, your body explodes as if IT was chainsawed.

I saved someone from being stuck last night. Actually, he couldn't move and was standing by the torque bow in the middle. (His character was Dom, I don't know if it makes a difference.) A locust downed him with 2 melee blows from the bow. I blasted the locust with my gnasher and revived Dom. The guy complained that he couldn't move, but lo and behold he was back in action. Of course the host took us down right after with his shotgun, but that's another issue.

I have a few feature requests/bugs I'd like addressed for better game play.

Feature requests:
1.) include searching for player names weather its public or private.

2.) instead of waiting for the whole server list to load have it actively display as it finds, kind of like UT2k4 style (including latency/ping described in #3).

3.) Add latency numbers or at least bars to each person to see who is lagging (since its is a client host type setup?). The reason I mention this is because its hard to determine if the host is lagging and or one or more of the clients.

4.) A Text box displaying current news on development, upgrades, server down time. (idea from Blizzard's World of Warcraft login screen).

5.) Allow in game server changes like game type, weapon swapping, Friendly fire, and map rotation. Remaking a match is unnecessary and annoying just to change settings.

6.) change the gui color (red instead of white?) of weapon/ammo area when getting an active reload.

7.) Better scaling of interface with 480 widescreen game play. 720i+ doesn't have this issue but interface is not scaled right when xbox is in 480i widescreen mode. Game environment doesn't have this problem. This might be an issue with my setup, I have a 4:3 tv in 16:9 mode, Microsoft seems to fail what aspect widescreen actually is, I'll assume 16:9 as a standard for the term widescreen.

Bugs (some may already be known):

1.) Throwing path of grenades seems to be a little inaccurate (on the short side). Also path doesn't update very well on stairs but isn't a big issue for me.

2.) chainsaw issue when in action chainsaw-er is almost invincible.

3.) When dropping down an edge you almost have to be facing directly forward and Players seem 'stuck' if trying to drop down in any other direction.

4.) Options for a stricter camera movement for better accuracy outside aiming and the ability to move the camera to the left slightly (gridlock cog side have a disadvantage to see over shoulder near sniper area).

5.) there is no way to actually 'hit' (B button default) with the lancer out, This may be more of a feature request but I find it confusing because its not uniform with all the other weapons.

Thank you for creating an amazing game. Good job Epic development team, I realize how hard bug squashing can be and making everybody happy.

Yes, some people have said theres a problem with xbox live.....And when I go to log into gears on xbl it says no games found in both ranked and unranked....I no its not my connection because I can still message friends and have a private chat.....I was on earlier today and had no problems.... Is this a problem for many people or a problem with my area or connection to the server?

I had this problem last night and went ahead and checked it again this morning. Everything seemed back to normal and I got a message from a lot of people last night who also seemed to have issues.

Interestingly enough, when everything went down I couldn't pay campaign any more at all. This morning, now that everything's up, I can. Kind of strange.

I love this game. I pretty much put away every other game in my 360 library since the day Gears came out. From the immersive offline single player mode to ONLINE campaign mode, you guys at Epic have created a masterpiece. The artwork and oversall gritty stylistic design of this game is unmatched. Every single wall or object is ridiculously detailed and unique from anything else in the game. Level design is awesome too, lets you explore but isnt too hard to figure out where to go. Even the multiplayer maps are already well reckognized and unique with their own individual flavor and feel to them. I also love the stat tracking with record of kills, deaths, headshots, and even curb stomps!

However...sometimes I hate this game. It can be the most frustrating piece of plastic known to man. Many of you know what I'm talking about. I feel like this game is so well done offline/LAN that nothing can be said about it. Online is a different story, and this has become a problem for many developers, UBISOFT ESPECIALLY. I can sometimes spend more time trying to find a match than actually playing the freaking game.

MATCHMAKING NEEDS TO BE CHANGED! You've probably heard this a thousand times but its so true. The game needs to implement a system where people can search for matches, but also allow for the automated finding/creation of lobbies as well! Quickmatch should first search for matches that best fit (#1) connection, (#2) player skill, and (#3) avoided, preferred players in order of importance. If a match does not fulfill a high percentage of this match, then the person should automatically create a lobby, which would then be filled in the same fashion. Think Halo 2.

The host should NOT be allowed to have control of what is happening in a ranked match. Allowing the host to always pick his favorite map where he knows how to glitch is a problem. Starting matches with unfair teams, and stacking players to his/her side is completely unacceptable. 99% of matches I join already have 3-4 people in it with a clan of experienced players, while I get a complete noob who just got his Xbox yesterday. Ranked matches are ranked matches. Players need to be well versed in the maps and gametypes to succeed.

The whole point of disallowing invites to ranked matches was to stop stacking, but it has only worsened this because now people can search for their friend's match, join the opposing side, and just let each other farm points. They can even have a spy on the OTHER TEAM that helps them by not killing them and failing to revive teammates. They even go on private chat with them; believe me, I have actually seen this nonsense!

If the system was implemented like Halo 2, players would not be allowed to join opposing sides; they could only enter matchmaking as a party to play TOGETHER. Just disallow searching for matches in ranked, and allow invites to parties. Implement the aforementioned matchmaking, and keep unranked the same with more IN GAME host options.

Players should be rated based on the developed and licensed TruSkill rating system and not by how long they have played for. Why was this advertised by Microsoft to be thrown away by their own published game? Points should be kept track of, but it shouldnt be the entire factor in the rating system, only half.

Glitches obviously need to be removed, which I know are being worked on. This always happens and just needs a patch to fix. The chainsaw jump, launching out of the map, grenade tag range, and roadie run while shooting are probably all going to be fixed in the next patch.

However, the most important thing of all, which if I had only one wish to change, it would be to PLEASE IMPLEMENT LAG COMPENSATION. Nobody has LAN speed connections over Live in the real world, where games are tested. Some people say that it would cause problems with double kills and such, but that would be much more fair than the host determining who dies and who is untouched. It is so infuriating to have an unskilled player kill you with a chainsaw or shotgun simply because of lag. Having to lead people with bullets in a game released in 2006 is ridiculous. I know this game was supposed to be stop and pop only, which would be a counter argument to the question of "why are you running around shooting your shotgun up close when you should be in cover." Some people dont play this way, and it actually gives THEM the advantage since they are moving while the person in cover is not. The long term success of this game AND YOUR ENGINE depends on this feature, and it needs to be put in, or else many will stop playing it and leave for games that are more fair. After playing COD3 last night I found that the lag compensation in the game made lag a non issue, and I was always playing with 24 people at once! The experience is just so much more enjoyable. For a max of 8 players, its crazy that this should be a problem.

I hope Epic has a chance to read this post. I am not complaining about the game mechanics at all, which most people try to do. A game is invisioned a certain way, much like a director does for a movie, and created to bring the developers' ideas to life. Balancing weapon damage, range, accuracy, and movement speeds are all up to the developer in order to create their own world. However, matchmaking systems, ranking systems, and lag are things that should be unified and not be a hinderance to this game world. If it requires computing resources, here's how it can be done:

Get on Microsoft's back, allow for dedicated Xbox 360 servers to be used for ranked matchmaking and lobbies if necessary. This can be done easily if a downloadable SERVER version of the game was available on the marketplace, maybe even release it on a DVD for free. Let it run with an advertiser's non Gold membership, and have server messages before matches as ads ("Hosting provided by Epic...how bout even IGN?") Companies would jump on that in a second if they could get millions of eyes on their company name even for an instant before matches. Advertising forever with a a one time cost of $400!

That's a very well written and respectful commentary on some issues that I know many agree are a deficit to the game.

I was about to suggest you post this on the official suggestions thread on the main forum (as this thread is mainly a place for fixes), but it looks like you already did!

I do wonder how difficult it would be to set up dedicated servers though. With 2 million copies sold, it seems likely that it would cost a lot to find someone willing to finance the cost. Then again, I know I'd be willing to throw in a couple of bucks a month to have this. Either way, I'd imagine this would be an undertaking more difficult than we all realize.

Lag of one sort another will always be a part of console online gaming, either with client side detection or, the deficit of the solution you're suggesting, a lot of people killing each other at the same time. Or being killed around the corner because the other person "sees" them first.

All in all though, I gaurantee this, a team that plays well together can overcome most of the supposed advantages in this game. A hyper-powered shotgun still can't defeat two guys with lancers.

I do agree the lag is annoying and hopefully can be fixed with a patch, but by this point the mic issues (a microsoft issue really) and the lack of a party system have been the most frustrating issus I've encountered.

How about they fix the gayness of the chainsaw. I have no problem with the fact you're invincible for a few seconds, but I really dislike how you get drawn into it when you get a little to close, you still aren't touching it, but you get drawn in as if it were magnetic, it gets really annoying.

I don't like halo MP but there lobby and clans and team setup is 2nd to none so why can't it just be used for every other MP game it really is superior. hey epic guys i really love this game. i know you're busy but i found this great idea on gamefaqs about ranking plays and it looks like it can really solve youre friends problem. its not my idea but here you go

Let me explain... first you get into a ranked game as normal. Then when the host starts up the countdown, a random player on the side that doesn't have the host gets a new option called 'shuffle'. He presses the 'shuffle' button during the now slightly extended countdown, and two people from each team randomly gets assigned to the opposite team. The countdown gets locked in and the game starts with the newly shuffled teams.

can you also makeit so that we can play 4 vs a beserker on some levels because that would be so cool.

this is an idea for the controls. i hate having to always hit my D=pad to change weapons and it seems to me that the Y button is pretty much useless in multiplayer if im looking for someone who is down i'll just hit LB. my thought is that they give you the option to have your controller like this...

Y button acts like LB and LB now will give you the option to swap between the Lancer and Shotgun or whatever 2 weapons you have in those spots. i think this would save lots of time in a fast paced multiplayer game. especially when throwing grenades because even if u have ur shotgun out and throw a nade you come back with your LAncer it would be so much easier to just hit LB right after that and go straight to shotgun.

I had this happen like 5 times yesterday. I would peg someone twice while they rushed in will reving and they would still get the saw.

Sorry, didn't have time to read every single post in here. So I don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not.
CHAINSAW GLITCH: I have witnessed 2-3 times where someone has gotten chainsawed and then gets up afterwards. I know one of them was in a warzone match too, so they couldn't even rivive themselves.
As for myself, I have had it happen once in an Execution match. Where I was almost to the point of reviving myself when someone comes up to chainsaw me. They start chainsawing and as they are sawing me in half I revive my self and start to run around, unaffected by the chainsaw. Might be more of an execution game type glitch than a chainsaw glitch for that though. Just like the grenade tag not killing someone if they get downed after being tagged.
As for the others times I witnessed it happen, the one guy got up about 5-6 seconds after he was chainsawed, it was crazy. I thought he was cheating b/c he was host as well.

Also don't know if this was mentioned or not. But after throwing your last grenade, your character switches to the lancer, regardless of the actual weapon you had out prior to switching to the nades.
Found that out the hard way a few times! =(

A. CONNECTION QUALITY MESSAGES SINCE PATCH

1.)Usually these messages appear, not because your connection quality has dropped, but because someone has decided to leave the match. Whereas prior to the patch you would just see a "______ left" message, now everyone's player freezes and you get the connection error. If this happens, WAIT FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS for the message to clear.
a)Tip: I don't know if this happens when connection quality actually drops, but with this above error you can still always here your other players. Tell them to wait it out for a second, see what happens.


It was better before when it just said someone left. It didn't interrupt the game. I see Epic is working on it, and I hope it gets fixed.

I've had TERRIBLE connection issues since the patch. Before the patch, I could go into the custom games listing and have a good selection of games with a good ping. Now, none of the games have a good ping, in fact they are all completely gray 90% of the time. On the rare occasion that one isn't gray, it'll be orange at most. Before the patch I was seeing green bars most of the time.

It isn't a port forwarding issue, I have the ports forwarded properly. In fact, since that didn't help, I put the 360 in the DMZ just to be safe. It still didn't help. When I try to connect to one of these games it just instantly tells me that my connection to the host was lost. This only happens with GoW, my other games work fine online. Strangely, I was able to play co-op with a friend over Live without any problems at all. Last night I was able to successfully join one versus match, it had an orange bar, and I noticed no lag during play.

I have tried rebooting both my router, as well as my cable modem. I have absolutely no solution for this problem. It started on the day of the patch, I was playing fine up through the day before.

EDIT: You know what, nevermind... I seem to be able to play tonight. The bars are still all gray though.

Perigon, I actually checked on this in another thread - it looks like the three grey bars mean the best connection, with the occasional two orange bars meaning a WORSE connection. So, stick to grey and you're ok.

Anyway (to continue the rhyme scheme), onechop, I've heard about this as well, though this is a thread specifically for FIXES. Post this in the bugs thread if you like, though I believe Epic has actually heard about this and is aware of it.

I also noticed an settings problem, minor but there none the less. When selecting the preferred Locust, the Grenadier shows a picture of an armor less locust, and a grenadier elite shows a picture of a locust with armor. when selecting these two, the in-game skins are switched, having armor on the grenadier, and no armor on the grenadier elite. small but a bug none the less.

*short* - the pictures correspond to the opposite grenadier when selecting preferred locust.

I am now having the same problem with all my games and have even frozen on the dashboard. This problems used to only happen with gears and over the course of a few days has escalated despite infrequent use, i apologize for clogging this message board with a hasty post, this is clearly (now) a console related problem.

Hi Childsaint, it's not clogging the boards, you're just trying to figure out what's wrong.

Microsoft just recently extended the warranty on many of their consoles. I'd suggest checking on their site to see if you can get your 360 fixed.

What I will like in next the patch it is:

- stop bug with the chainsaw (like cutting out in the wind, the chainsaw which does not start…)

- research of waiter much more fast (example burnout revenge which is for me very fast), with a posting including/understanding more result

- Increase the number of players by maps to 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8, I think these maps allows it

Regulate the problems of lags!! To

- Delete the icons Rt and Lt as a spectator mode partly classified to see the places because they do not function any more.

I always adore this play but I take less pleasure since this first patch.

-fix bug were preferred Locust grenadier types refer to the opposite skins ingame.

-fix small glitch were you get stuck in the mantle animation (on rooftops)

-glitch where a good while after a melee you get stunned by bullets. [had enough time to fire off three "slow" shots from pistol, but enemy bullets still evoked stun animation]

-allow bullets to nullify melee animation, instead of sunning them after melee is completed.

-allow for more flexibility when stepping/running/diving off a small ledge

-joining co-op matches is difficult, "can't connect to host"

Suggestions & Observations
-Curb stomp animation doesn't have a "dibs" feature (like the chainsaw), countless times have I been set up for a curb stomp, only to have my kill stolen away from a quick melee by a teammate.

-allow LB to be active while roadie-running, so i can run to my nearest teammate

-Cycle up the spawn locations at spawn point, [for example on canals if I start at the forward most spawn, or the one at the rear, I stay there for the remainder of the game. It also privileges the most forward person on getting to the power weapons first.

The only thing I want them to fix right now is the Shotgun. The thing shoots way too far and has made it impossible to run away from due to it's range. Also because the stream has been more compacted it makes it a lot harder to hit anything point blank. It really never should have been changed to begin with and has single-handedly ruined the game for me.

You do realize that the patch did nothing to change the strength of any weapon, it's range, or anything except for the grenade tag distance. So, if you think that your shotty has a more compacted blast or is better at long range now or anything of the sort - it's all in your head.

Grenade sticks should make the person armed and dangerous to both sides. Treat grenade tosses the same way when thrown into enemies and teamates.

The hammer of dawn should eliminate your teamate also, rooftops is known for sending a player in for bait and burn two enemies but not your teamate.

Splatter damage from the boomshot should at least take an enemy down. Especially since when fired into an enemy, the flying body parts can potentially take out the rest of their team if they are close enough.

Swap the thumbsticks actions when sawing and roadie running for southpaw users. The thumbs are right next to each other in task. The zoom for the sniper should be swapped also for southpaw users.

Give the locusts the hammerburst. This is more preference do to the whole double thumbing southpaw issue.

Updated first post with Sir Fuzzles' note that the erroneous "connection quality" messages occur only when someone SHUTS OFF their Xbox while still in the room.

If anyone wants to test this with their friends and report back it'd be a big help to verify this is an isolated issue with only these parameters.

Boomshot is only effect when it direct hits.. Even frags give splash damage, I can imagine a rocket exploding 2 inches from your head will at least give u a headache or something, but instead you can just keep running. Shooting the boomshot near their feet doesnt do any damage either.

Ah the connection issue, when someone leaves a game, before the patch came out it was fine everyone could play normally, but now when someone quit's a game, the connection error thing comes up, and everyone's sitting around till that person's gone, which sucks because if someone threw a grenade just before, and everyone locks up the grenade still kills that person, the active reload runs out, and etc.

Anyway, I agree with you, especially given that active reloads runout, etc. Wouldn't mind it so much otherwise, as it provides a weird sort of unplanned break to the game. Kind of like TV timeouts in basketball.

I've only seen it once or twice, but there's a bug where you can fall through the floor when you jump off a short ledge. I've seen it happen in the warehouse.

its if you face the hammer from the big entrance. its the small gap in the crates to the left. if you press "a" to go up to it for cover and then try to get up you fall through.

I've got a problem with versus split screen. You can't see the guns on player 2's back. You can see the gun he's holding and he can switch between all his guns, you just can't see them on his back. There's nothing there. I'm just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if there is a way to fix it.

It explains why, at least from my reading, that you can get achievement seemingly before the amount of kills has been reached as recorded on the leaderboards.

Posts here (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=563063&page=2&highlight=achievement)suggest that numbers were reset after the patch and that, in addition, if people quit before the end of the match that the stats up to that point don't count. I'm not sure if the latter is correct, but the former probably explains the reason you haven't reached the achievement.

Aha! It's called "surfing" eh? I saw this in a match the other day and brought it up to ask if anyone else saw it, and they denied it and called me a whiner. One guy was just sliding around behind the other guy.

I also finally saw the chainsaw glitch where people slide up to cover with the chainsaw activated and they never go through the animation, people just explode.

I'd have no problems with any of this if they just went to client side hit detection though, because you could actually use the lancer to kill people.

after speaking with some people from epic I updated my firmware on my router (wrt54g) since then I have not had any problems connecting or people connecting to my games. Big improvement.

yea i totally hate it when someone on a ranked match does the chainsaw glitch in gridlock on the side plants. its an easy glitch that makes you able to shoot while running.

Grenade Tags 228= No Achievement

Executions 127= No Achievement

Chainsaw kills 116= No Achievement

Now other Achievements have unlocked in Single Player, but so-far, all ranked online, which involve numbers (I have Round the World, Mix it Up, etc), just wont unlock.

Is this a very well known issue (with such high numbers) and if it is, is it being addressed in the patch?

Is there anyway of actually making the game check this amount of kills and unlock the Achievement?

Help!?

Well, supposedly all the counts are saved on your hard drive, which is why, oftentimes, people's achievements will be unlocked prior to actual counts updating on leaderboards.

But, obviously, a lot of people are having issues w/achievements not unlocking when they have more than they should need for them.

One thing, apparently all leaderboards/achievements reset after the first patch. So, perhaps, if you had any of these beforehand they aren't counted. Also heard that if the round isn't completed b/c people drop out it doesn't count towards achievements but I could be wrong.

Epic hasn't said anything about whether or not this will be fixed in the patch, although since this has been an issue for many people, I'm sure they're highly aware of it being a problem.

Kills always count towards achievements even if people drop from the game because the kills are logged on your hard drive. This is why people can get the achievement before the leaderboards say they have enough curbstomps, revives, etc. Achievements weren't erased after the first patch and neither were the leaderboards.

Those glitches are still here. I've seen some one crab walk. I myself, can do the weapon slide and running chainsaw glitch still. Very dissapointed with this one epic.

I would love to know how.... I've done the weapon slide forever(mainly because I play in mlg tournies... go BOOM btw love that update)

I swear on my life i seen someone sliding about the floor on Annex/fuel depot!!!

It looked like the crab walk except their legs weren't moving if you get what im saying.

Also when i climbed into one of the trailers to get the sniper rifle i was above the floor while in the trailer.

Im gonna keep my camera by me when i next play incase i see any of these things happen again to prove im not making things up.

What I hate is when you sneak up on some unexpecting sucker and you put your shottie to their back and shoot. then they jump away and turn and shot you and either down you or kill you in one shot. Why is it the first shot not one and done! I know everyone has had this problem, cause I hear it in the lobby all the time!

because its not fair to the people who got all their achievements by playing execution (which is what I did) or warzone (also a cheap way to get achievements)... think about it dude. in a normal game of annex you get anywhere from 30 kills if you suck to over a 100 if you are decent, or more... You can get to 10,000 in no time doing that...

Hopefully there will be some kind of fix for the following things...

-Friends being in ranked matches (I always seem to find a team with friends who talk and are usually the host while I get stuck on the team where nobody talks or they don't speak english).

-Chainsaw Glitching

-Chainsaw Glitching with other weapons (This is the worst one right now as you can shoot at the person and it won't stop the glitch unlike the first chainsaw glitch. Then once they switch back to the lancer, you die no matter where you are).

-Weapon Sliding (It just got switched to a different button combination and it really seems easier to do than the first one but this glitch is the least of the problems on this list).

On Fuel Depot there is a ledge coming from the hanger side and into the back of the warehouse that you jump down from to reach the hammer of dawn. This is the only ledge in the game where a lottery of things can occur.

Either:

You press A to jump down (good)
You walk off the ledge normally (good)
You press A but just roll in the spot you're standing (bad)
You press forward but walk as if into a wall (bad)
You press A and jump down then are sucked back up (bad)
My favorite - you press A to jump off but instead cease to exist. You are still alive but no one can see you. You move around at the speed of roadie running but are standing. When you shoot your shots hit the level somewhere else. You can still speak to and hear your teammates though. (bad)


It should be noted that this is the same ledge where you can fall underneath the level if approached from lower side.

Aside from this ledge of insanity Fuel Depot rocks.

Downloaqd your gamertag again without deleting it first then play a game on ranked you might get it
cant promise anything but with the new ach's that people was not getting the points so thats what i did and i got the points so maybe that might work for you

I guess this forum is useless.... Epic knows about the unlocked succes. Most of us have over 10 000 kills and no seriously achievement... but they just don't do anything ! and the worst... they don't ANSWER us.

I won't be a customer of GOW2 if they don't hear, answer & help me.

I know exactly what your saying. All of my recent posts seem to have quietly been erased despite no violations of forum rules whatsoever included within them. An example was the bug post I put up which contained about 30 different bugs exploits and annoyances. I listed no methods for actually accomplishing any of these exploits only there existance. I figured Epic wanted to know about them and this was the logical thread to list them but I guess any post which says anything even remotely negative about Epic itself, such as there inability to fix allmost any of the exploits, is quietly locked/deleted with no explanation given.

EPIC this is a very dangerous path your walking on. The best way to deal with a dissenting opinion is not to delete it but to respond or refute it in someway. If the opinion has no validity you can turn it into a positive by showing this. If it does have some merit then you should listen and try to improve based on this feedback. If you insist on deleting every post you don't like just because it doesn't worship the ground you walk on and refuse to respond to MAJOR problems such as this achievement unlock bug or any discussion on HOST ADVANTAGE your going to start losing customers.

If I were you I would have a bi-weekly or monthly update post on the state of the game and our questions/complaints etc and how they are beeing acted upon. Communication is good for eveyone involved and your product can only improve by listening to it.

you can still do the old chainsaw glitch!!! the one where you walk into someone and chainsaw them but not kill them. You can only do it in player matches for some reason. Epic, don't change how to do the glitches, get rid of them. Weapon slide is now possible without being in cover, and roadie run glitching is still possible. I can do many many glitches, but for good. I learn them just to defend myself in ranked matches when the other team decides to do them. I NEVER GLITCH IN RANKED UNLESS THE OTHER TEAM DOES IT FIRST. Player, well I don't care because the host usually boots me and it's unranked. Also, if the AI in campaign can roadie run glitch (which I have seen a lot while trying to get the COG tags) doesn't this allow the glitch to exist in multiplayer? Maybe you can fix it in campaign to better understand this glitch or to terminate it forever.

This is directed towards everyone with achievement problems.When you tally up all your kills for achievements, make sure you're not including annex and sometimes the kills don't count if players quit in the middle of the match unless it goes past 10 rounds.

Love the game but a few bugs
5) a downed player moves like 6-7 feet from the place where he was downed to where he lies on the floor downed. Odd but of no consequence, lag maybe?

notes:

2.oh how I wish I knew that a downed guy didn't die from the grenade tag. Got into an argument about it when I tagged a locust who went to help his downed buddy which resulted in both their deaths and I was blamed for steal killing the downed dude with a tag.

5) I think it's a combination of lag and an uncontrolled glitch involved the dodge roll. More or less, what I'm saying is that when you shoot someone they might be trying to perform a dodge roll just as you shoot them and end up sliding/teleporting across the ground to where they'd normally land after the roll. (Just my guess.)

Notes:

2. People who whine about kill stealing need to just grow up. Especially if it's just a player match. It's going to happen at some point. I'd rather have my kill stolen than allow the downed opponent to be revived. (Another fun thing to do when in this situation is to tag the downed guy with an arrow or grenade as someone goes to revive them. I've pulled it off several times and it works like a charm.) So yeah, if someone complains about you stealing their kill, just ignore them. In fact, don't even respond, just keep playing as if they never said anything about it at all. :b

The only time it bugs me when someone steals a kill is if I'm trying to do something or when I specifically ask them not to kill the person and some jerk comes up and chainsaws the guy or smacks them. But, I don't get into big issues about it. If they ask why, I'll try to explain to them that I'm either trying to set a trap or just wanted to be fancy about my execution.

gears of war is soo messep up, i know aplyer who has over 23k kills on the leaderboards but no seriously. I'm pretty sure he didn't have around 14k kills that the host quit... I have 10.8k for seriously, and my games the host like never quits, maybe like 50 kills were from that. i only quit at like the 1st or 2nd reound if i DO. epic wont even admit they have a problem, this is messed up and every day more people are going over 10,000 kills to get seriously. If they aren't going to fix the glitch then change the achievement description to:

get 8,000-25,000 kills in ranked online matches.

Ha ha, I took a second to think about why you would say that and it actually does make sense.

I guess they should just add some text to the achievements that states something along the lines of not being achievable through Annex. IE: "Doesn't include Annex scores" or something like that.

I thought by this point most people realized that annex didnt count for seriously, either way, i passed ten thousand kills like 2 days ago, counting Warzone, Assassination, and Execution, and since then i've gotten to 10500 between the 3, which, isn't that bad, but it is kinda annoying, i really wanna get that award so i can move on to something else lol

I finally got Seriuosly in a wierd way. I started at Rooftops (Achievement Match) until someone messed it up. So far only got 1 kill. Match ended and Blink. (Achievement Unlocked):eek:

i need some help you know how all your kill get stored on your HDD at the end of the game that is if you stay until the end of the game when it says cog/locust won, but my question is recently i had to perform the cleanup of watever on my HDD you know where u press XX RB LB XX and it deletes all the updates and stuff on ur hardrive but it also deleted my save game in gears of war and only in gears no other games for some reason. so if i had like 4600 kills on my harddrive and the save game was deleted does my kill count go back to zero meaning im totally screwed and have to start all over or does it still stay stored on it. the reason im doubtfull if because i was close to beating the whole game on insane but i had to start over again because it wouldnt let me pick the insane difficulty and i had to start beating the game on hardcore all over and i beat act 1-4 in two days but i had already beaten act 5 on hardcore since thats the one i did on insane all the way and got the hardcore for that too before the save game was deleted so now i have all acts beaten on hardcore but still no soldier for beating all acts on hardcore so i guess ill have to beat act 5 on hardcore once again to get the achievement. so my main question have my kills all just gone *poof* leaving me totally ****ed over and having to start again toward seriously?:mad:

I'm gonna call bullsh*t on the theories in the opening post on why people get the seriously achievement late.

Some folks are getting the achievement thousands of kills late, there is NO WAY that these people have been in so many games where the host quit as to cause them to get their achievement 2000+ kills late.

Alternately, the people that get their achievement early or on time would have to NEVER have been in a game where the host quit.

Either scenario is pretty much impossible so it must be something else.

I'm guessing if EPIC had an answer they'd have let us know about it or fixed it by now.

Just a thought.

ok i have played 850-900 and something games with 15-20 kills a game and it says on the leader boards that i have around 5000 kills why is this 90% of the time people stay in the games and the host never quites and i never quite a game.and i play 10 rounders or sometimes 15 so barley ne 1 quites. why on the leader boards does it say such a low amount of kills? and i dont have seriously!

I just got my Seriously yesterday, when I was playing Rooftops. I got about 20-30 kills and POP! The achievement showed up.
I was so happy to finally get it! :D

My total kills were 10805.

Note: I had my harddrive changed at 3000 kills, so your kills are NOT stored on your harddrive. If they were, I would have had to get about 13000 kills, which isn't true.
And the 800 kills of mine, do actually match up to when the host quitted on me.

I was wondering, do your kills count for seriously after 30 rounds?

As of today:
Warzone: 10,201 kills
Execution: 582
Assassination: 18
Total: 10,801 kills...no seriously...

I'm giving it untill 12,500 in Warzone and that's as much time as I'll waste. I played ranked only for achievements, and apparently wasted my time....

Got it tonight at 11,005. Thank god this is over. I worked very hard for it, and even though it is later, better late than never! I wish all of you good luck, and I really hope you get it. The feeling of accomplishment when that "Achievement Unlocked - 50G" icon comes up is quite a great feeling! :D

laging is probly the worst thing on gears multiplayer that and when a connection is lost or a host leave a game, the statistics for that game is totally lost

I would like to ask epic why I havn't got my seriously achievement. I have heard all of the theories and I have approximately 11,500 kills and no matter what theories hold true I still should have gotten my achievement by now. With all the people who are having this trouble and have put countless hours into this game the least epic could do is explain officially what is going on. Halo 3 is coming out and I'm sure many people would like this issue resolved sonner than later.

kills are not saved on the hard drive. wiping your hard drive doesn't make any difference. the xbox live support is right, kills are linked to your gamertag. say you buy the game and never play the campaign but just play online... there is no game save on the hard drive! the only game saves on the hard drive are for the campaign, if you look in the dashboard you will see this...

i am pretty sure this is the reason why the seriously "bug" is happening:

the code for what a kill is has not changed since the game was launched. that is, say you're lancering a guy (with the patch and the new, ultra-powerful lancer) and you down him/kill him it isn't a kill toward seriously. the code written for the game before the patch wouldn't qualify this as a kill you see, because the old weapon code would just have the guy you are lancering be fairly well damaged but not downed/killed. this is the same for any of the weapons that have been changed throughout the patch. yes it counts on the leaderboard but not toward seriously. the leaderboard just detects the kill, not what the kill is defined as in the code of the game. i don't have a list of all the weapons that were changed during the patch, but you can bet that they are most definitely not counting as kills toward seriously. similar to the new dodge roll as someone else was saying... that probably affects it too. this is why people have to go thousands over 10,000 probably because they did lots of lancering.
epic probably couldn't fix this when they patched the game, they just wanted to prevent glitchers. this game was perfect (pre-patches) when it first came out, but you can blame the glitchers for forcing epic to do something. it was definitely getting out of control.
i wanted to post my thoughts (i'm almost certain they are correct) and share to see what anyone else thought, so gimme some feedback or add to it, whatever.
i have over 10,000 kills and no achievement still, i wish i would have played a lot pre-patch because none of those guys had to go over 10,000 kills to get theirs (again because of the way the weapon damage code has changed since the patch).
i might try to get around 500 more kills before i give up and try something else. i don't want to say it here (for fear of getting banned?!?) but send me a pm or hit me up on xbox live (my gamertag is IHeartNugBlunts) if interested.

My bud unlocked his at 9,200 kills, but this was prior to the Hidden Fronts maps being released. Given this, I should have unlocked mine by now, but haven't. If I get to 10,000 recorded kills (on the leaderboards) and I don't unlock it, I'll probably chuck the game disk out the window of my car when I'm driving over a bridge...

after 10,629 kills, the seriously achievement popped up on my screen after a 10-rounder, 11-kill game on gridlock. kind of a relief because i am dead-sick of playing this game.
advice for those who don't have it yet: just keep killing...
i'd say if you racked up anywhere from 5k-6k kills before the first patch, you should get it around 10,500-10,800. i think it all depends on how many kills you have before the first patch.

oh and to kill any false rumors, at about the 8,000 mark i bought an elite, deleted my profile from my old 360 and downloaded it to my elite. at around 9,500 i changed my gamertag, deleted my profile, got a transfer kit to move all my old gears emergence day stuff to my eilte (had to delete my profile and download it again), and yet i still got the achievement (almost) on time. so i hope this puts any false rumors to rest... you can change your gamertag, maintenance your hard drive, delete your profile, or delete everything off your hard drive and you'll still get credit for all those old kills.

Well, just like I predicted - I hit 10,000 kills the other night and... nothing. Thanks, Epic! I've been playing this game so hard lately in my few spare hours that I get a night and I'm to the point where I am sick of it. You work that hard for something and nothing happens, its like a big wet slap across the face. Thanks, Mark and Cliffy!

another theory:
the achievement is defined as: Kill 10,000 people in versus ranked match total

would this mean that you have to kill 10k unique people? say you're playing a match on gridlock or something and get 30 kills. say you kill the one guy 10 times. this would only register toward the achievement as 1 "person" killed, so in effect, only counting as 1 kill toward the achievement. look at the other achievement descriptions for gears, for instance, the torque bow: Kill 100 enemies in ranked matches with the Torque Bow. it says enemies not people, so they don't have to be unique users like the seriously description?!? this sorta explains why people have to go way over 10,000 because they are killing the same people (all the same people are still playing?!?). it was easier to get unique people killed before now due to many more unique players (esp. before halo 3 and right after the game came out). i dunno, just a thought. it's weird how the achievement is described with "people" instead of "enemies" like the other achievements...

Yea the wording is "F'd" up on a lot of the achievement descriptions. I started a post on Multiplayer to help define the wordings.
This may have been brought up before...
"Don't hate the player" most points in a ranked match.
ANNEX doesn’t count for that achievement. In fact other than any achievement description specifically stating "ANNEX" it probably WILL NOT count for that achievement either. Just my guess, not a huge thing but, epic says something and then it doesn’t happen.
NO host advantage on sick connections. From my 360 is an Ethernet cable going to my modem, from my modem is a phone cord that is going to the wall. My point is I paid $15 to have a unique line run straight into my house and straight out. No interference. On my games there is no host advantage. (350 mbps)
Point is, host more accurate is not a glitch you are running off the host who has a sorry connection, which means he will be the only one up to speed. May seem as if your shotgun bullets are made by nerve.

I've been reading posts on this forum and getting a heads up from it through my buddy for some time now and finally was forced to register due to his account being oddly banned... so bear with me. Anyhow since we, "my team mates and I" are super close to getting this achievement I had to ask, Why hasn't anything been officially presented to us? Are we asking too much for a simple, "We know about it but can't or won't do a thing about it." or "We know about it and will and are addressing it." I mean "SERIOUSLY"?! I don't want to go past 10K kills with nada.

This sucks. First I get to 10,000 kills and no Seriously... Achievement, now my 360 died with the 3 red lights of death. This is probably a good thing - I needed some time away from this game after playing it so much lately and then not getting the achievement.

You'd think that Epic would step up and at least tell us what is causing the Seriously... bug. I guess they are too damn busy working on Gears PC and UTIII to give a rat's -ss about us 360 gamers right now...

I'm at around 9900 right now, and I just wanted to know where the seriously data is stored. Is it attached to your gamertag profile, or is it in a hidden cache somewhere that is local to that hard drive only? I want to know this because I frequently go home and recover my tag on my brother's xbox. If I dont get those kills counted towards my seriously, that means i would need another 5,000 at least because I play half of the time at home.

The way it used to be was if the game ended prematurely then the kills were null and void. Then they fixed a patch so that if the game quit you still got your kills. I'm assuming that via the patch there is a glitch that if the game ends prematurely you get your kills but they don't count towards serious.

So if you're at 10,000 and you know you've had games end early. Then that's why. Deal with it. Go kill more people.

Besides it's not like you're gunna stop playing once you hit 10,000. Just pretend you got Serious and go kill some more people like you normally would, and you will eventually get it.

It just sucks how Mark, Cliffy, & Co were all over these forums at the launch of Gears. Now, we can't get even a simple response from anyone at Epic even after 25 pages of complaints...

That's exactly what I did when I unlocked it. I stopped playing this buggy, laggy mess of a game.

Looking back on the four months I spent playing ranked against cheaters and the same stacked teams hosting their games, it wasn't worth it and it certainly wasn't fun.

The achievement is worthless now anyway, if you have over 10,000 kills and no achievement you should just glitch it and put yourself out of the misery that is Gears of War ranked matches!

Dude dont you know cliffy could care less about the REAL gears fans. The ones that want to see the game immortalized in perfection (or at least closer to than now). They made their money , they already said that multiplayer wasnt the main focus of the game (neither was single player given the length). Maybe in gears 2 they will do better but at this point who cares. Its only failed at all in its glitchfest cause of poor management. Nobody really noticed what was wrong with the game till people noticed that you can run through a wall of bullets with the shotgun and randomly kill 4 people. Look at the physiclal attacks. The handgun butt does more damage than their high calibur assault rifle, the sniper rifle can give you a fatal stomach ache, and the shotgun shoots a random 4 to 6 NEAR fatal amount of pellets unless its supermans host gun(which by the way is somehow almost immune to being shot by 2 people at once in some occasions). I dont even think they can even admit that they cant fix these problems. I would actually respect them more if they publicly admitted they couldnt or outsourced their need for someone to actually fix it. Think about it. Hire 1 fan thats a tech head and bring him in to fix it. 1 Main problem is that cliffy hasnt even publicly mentioned that he even knows about the host lag/advantage or the many array of glitches , so how would they even fix it? When they beta test gears its on their own network. How would they even know that the host advantage even exists? You have to play with people online as a non host to know about it or shoot at the floor. Bottom line is gears is broken and never going to get fixed or publicly apologized for. 1 more awesome game messed up by their own staffs incompenence.

I am aware of what you mean. But I already know how to undo ThAT if you know what I mean. Im a tech. Its happened before and i've done it before. As a matter of fact I have many friends on this site that its happened to more than 3 times and they've done it also. Proving that you can't keep the truth from people and that the mods dont even pay attention anymore. Case and point. If they did we'd have answers. O no wait..... THEY'VE COME FOR ME HERE!!!! NOOO NOT MY.......
