View Full Version : How many people have you convinced to get the game?

Just trying to get a idea of how good word of mouth advertising can be. Obviously everybody in the forums here is a shoe in to have the game ASAP. But how many of yoru friends have you convinced to get it. I know for a fact that just by me hyping it up to some of my friends that play but dont frequent the forums and all... that I have got 4 copies sold.

Only 1 other friend of mine has a 360, and he was already planning on buying it....so ZERO for me. :(

I managed about ten, mainly wanted COD3 and Forza 2, but spoke and then forced them to watch "You Tube" and "Gametrailers" now they are all getting it.

P.S. Convinced about Half of em to pick up a 360 instead of a PS3 as well.

none, because they were already convinced this game will rock.

see I have a bunch of friends that dont read the mags or visit the forums... they rely on me, or the trip to the game store to buy stuff. they rarely preorder.. but i showed them some vids ... and they were hooked. The probably would have gotten it anyway eventualy... but LAN parties have convinced them otherwise...

I'm working on a couple of sony fanboys at work. Oddly I can't get my clan to even look at the vids! They have been burned so many times everyone is taking a wait and see attitude especially because of the hype.

yeah a lot of people have the wait and see approach.. I really blame this on the employees at game stop and eb. Places like that. They push to make you reserve stuff so much.. that a lot of times it ends up shafting the player. A true gamer knows that until you should see the ingame engine.. and not some CGI pics. I will never forget how much they used to hype up Bruce lee for the xbox.. and I was like.. I will wait and see.. thank goodness... that game was soooooo bad... Bruce Lee should never have to learn moves as you progress. He is Bruce Lee.. give him all the moves from the get go, and put a damn level that is playable along with it.

I have a lot of friends where if the game is getting a huge amount of hype, then if anything they'll just stay away from it till it releases. So I've pretty much gotta wait till it releases.

exactly... that is a by product of a corporation forcing people to pitch preordering stuff that will only end up dissapointing the consumer.
Example... I worked at Gamestop, and we had a guy that worked there. Knew nothing about games... didnt evern play games, but would tell the kids that came in to reserve this game.. it was going to be the best game out.. its awesome he would say.. That game was Bruce Lee (can you tell I hated that game?), anyway the game comes out, the kids come to pick up the reserves.. and they come back in a week or so later... Man that game sucked.... Now.. how many people did that deter from reserving another game? maybe a few, maybe a few dozen.. now add those with the other 90% of the games on the market.. .and its a uphill battle to convince people.
IGN, and gamespot.. are just as bad... They write these really great reviews, and always end up.. with "well we will have to wait and see how it turns out", BUT "if this 1 month old preview build is any indication, this will be yet another winner they have on their hands!"

I actually canceled my pre order for gears at gamestop and I thought me and the manager were going to have to take our differences outside! They wouldn't give me my money back either store credit only.

Everyone I know who has a 360 bought the 360 because of this game. My bad for hanging out with like minded peeps. ;)

I canceled my preorder when I found out about the inability to play with friends in ranked and obvious lack of clan support. I got over it a couple days later and ordered it from eb.com as well as the official gears lan case(which kicks ass I might add)

My cousin, he just got his 360, he can't get GoW on launch though so hes gonna come over and we are gonna play some split screen coop. Im sure we will have fun.
