I don't know if Sera is like Earth as in it is mostly covered by water, but how would the locusts know whats above them? So what if there were all these squads of them underground ready to pop up and then they break through the ground and drown.
But then I went to thinking and couldn't that be a way that the locusts are defeated? They hit the water and then all the water from the oceans flood into their tunnels and they drown to death. Thoughts?

lol that is a pretty funny theory but it makes sense. Although, I have a thought that the Locust know where to pop up, idk. Also, if that was the way to kill all the Locust then i personally think the storyline would suck at the end. We want the COGS to kill the Locust, not mother nature!

It would be even funnier if they popped up into a septic tank.

I had seen somewhere that it was based on sound, but hey not everything you see on the internet is true.

Sound is a good theory, there are blind members of the Locust's as well who use nothing but sound and smell to find and kill your ass (i bought the guide and read thru it :-D). Whoever posted about the poping up in a septic tank deserves a COG medal in the field of making me laugh my ass off.

If it's mainly smell, fighting in septic tanks might work to the humans advantage :)
Brilliant theories all around.

The Locust arent stupid, and I'm starting to think there's a hivemind like intelligence behind them. They obviously planned, and waited, and planned some more, to take on humanity and just kill us all. They cropped up in major cities, sprawling urban and industrial places which man had most populated. They obviously knew where we were, and thus struck the centers of humanity. They crippled the economy of an entire planet by forcing the remnants into a few sheltered places. I doubt they would have come up into an ocean.
Edit: There's no way to say that that doesn't sound critical of the OP, but I'm not trying to be. :p

It said that the locusts planned their attack so they popped up in all of the major cities at the same time. That means they're pretty informed about the surface. They almost definately wouldn't pop up in the ocean.

I'm starting to think that there's an intentional irony the developers placed in the story by having Sera's human population name their enemy the Locust. I think this whole war is environmental in nature. The game indicated that they fought for decades over Imulsion until COG came into existence. Perhaps the native inhabitants were just sick of these foreign parasites (aka us) draining the planet? What if mankind is the locusts? That would be a great plot twist.
As for the Locust being a hivemind, it's plausible, though I'm not completely sold on that yet. What they all certainly have is a common goal. I'm not sure how a hivemind would work since they have different species within the fold. The Voice would seem to fit, but then she refers to her allies as "we," which kind of implies induviduals working together. The corpsers and seeders are clearly from a different evolutionary branch. This is not to say they don't have a common ancestor. There are just large differences between them and the more humanoid varieties. I don't think they're just dumb beasts of wars either. If they were animals, then I don't think they would be able to coordinate with attacks and strategies so easily or prevent themselves from eating the others.

I'd like to share a...revelation I had, during my time here.
It came to me when I tried to...classify your species. I
realized that you're not _actually_ mammals. Every mammal on
this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with
the surrounding environment but...you humans do _not_. You
move to an area..._and_ you _multiply_...until every natural
resource is _consumed_. The only way you can survive is to..
spread to _another_ area. There is another organism on this
planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is?
A virus. Humans beings are a _disease_, a _cancer_ of this
planet...and _we_...are the cure.
