I know i am going to be bashed for this, but i can help it.
I know gow is going to be 4v4. and i prefer that over any thing else.
I know the maps are small because of the 4v4. BUT! what if the guys at epic released a game type that would allow a lot more players?
Here is my idea for a map. Have all maps combined into one.
Gridlock, mansion, canals etc etc...
The UE3 supports Hyper threading technology does it not? This means no loading times between levels. How cool would it be to start a battle in canals and end up in a mansion?
Of course they would have to beef up the player count a bit.
The game type could be called ruins or something.
I'm not saying this is going to happen, and i know for a fact it will not ever happen. but still, it would be great to be able to switch levels with out loading.

Ive heard much much worse ideas...Much!
That would be interesting but I dont think they would Integrate together very well. Because hopefully they are all very different.

Yea, sounds cool but i dont think id like the idea of walking round one place and ending up some place compltetly different...
But who knows about the adding players bit...
4vs4 is the best way to go, but maybe it can add match options like Halo 2 and maybe one day well see brand new options which may have more players..
But i guess it all depends on how the game turns out and whther or not Epic feel the need to..
It would be cool but 4vs4 is fine for now, if i want more players ill probably switch to GRAW or Halo 3 for abit

I think making maps bigger and adding more people would add alot more running and gunning than what this game was designed to be.
yeah and adding more people will really start to screw up teh communications

I think if you make the maps big and add more people the tactical scenarios that you have to create would deminish and it just turn into a free for all and the team work would just go out of the window.

Well, I hope EPIC comes up with a unique game type that has never been done before. something so massive, that Halo tards would cream there pants.
Where up there is so much action going on, you absolutely must take cover to rank up.
This is how i picture the new game type. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7533454468030652725&q=dawn+of+war)Only with COG and Locust. Do you know how bad ass that would be in 3rd person? hundreds of players waging(sp?) war in the shattered streets of Sera!? This is THE game type. A game type so hardcore it would be the anti-drug to WOW!!!!

Good imagination m8, i expect it will never happen due to game balance. On the other issue, the big thing that people forget is that this is not a FPS, it's a third person view game, thats is GOW selling point. Halo fans will ALWAYS be HALO fans, I'm expecting this game to be a new experience.

There are a number of obvious problems when you increase the map size or the player count for a multiplayer game such as this... First of all are the performance issues. The same reason GoW (SP, and presumably in MP also) "cleans up" corpses laying around on the battlefield is the reason why many more players than 4v4 presents a problem: The engine can only reasonably render a small number of models (and their associated decals and effects on the enviornment such as shooting, etc.) before performance starts to significantly degrade and this, particularly in multiplayer, can pose real problems.
Another reason this isn't likely to happen with the currently announced MP game types is because in every such announced game type (and in every indication CliffyB has given) players will not respawn, therefore if maps grow to be very large and player counts grow higher the amount of time a dead player is sitting idle grows quickly. No one wants to sit out of the game and watch for 20 minutes while two idiots on a large map hunt for each other.
We might see a very small increase in player counts or map sizes (probably independently of each other) but don't get your hopes up too high about either of these becoming too large.
