What u guys think about ut20007 marketing?? I mean we have seen ut2007 have amazing gryphics and nice gameplay, but does it run on avarge pc(Not some does it run on my pc thread)!!!
P4 2,4ghz
512mb ram
128mb videocard
If it dont work on this pc ,they may lose many clients i think ut2007 should work at least with min gryphics and low res smoothly then its sured that they make good sell results ,or they more focus on consoles like PS3 so in consoles they work perfectly!! Or maybe they w8 some time so all can get better pc ,so avarge pc in world go better and maybe vista release!!!

Why do you think they are taking so long to release the game? They're definately tweaking their video settings options. Epic intends to have just a fraction higher requirements than what it took to run UT2K4.

They know they can't make more money by overlooking a majority of their playerbase.

And for those who will be able to run it flawless or near flawlessly on highest settings, grats to your money.... err I mean.. you!

Even with my comp I don't think the ultra setting will work. I'm probably going to have to upgrade to 2GB of RAM. Grats on my sweet job (which I worked hard for, not my money ;) ).

AMD 64 3800+
1GB OCZ Gold Series PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2-2-2-5)

Rosewill 550W PSU

Graphics are the biggest selling point in the industry, but at the same time you have to make sure that the game will run on the majority the consumers machines. TBH your computer seems slightly below average, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to run it. We wont know until Epic announce the specs :)

The graphics on UT2007 look ace, Epic will help push the hardware market forward when they release the game. To my understanding the way an average game company would work is to create the game to the best visual standard, then as they get near Gold (final stage of game development), they would think "right, now lets tweak things so it can run on the majority of system specs".

Remember seeing the screenshots of UT2004 before it was released, and thinking "OMFG!?" hehe, that was around about the time when Geforce 4 series just rolled out :P

The Unreal engine has always been immensely scalable in terms of graphic detail vs hardware spec - why should UE3 be any different?

What we're seeing in the released footage is the high detail settings, running on an as-yet unrefined engine on development-level hardware - we have no idea how low the low detail will go and how that will bring the hardware needs down.

Graphics are the biggest selling point in the industry, Rubbish, that’s why the super Nintendo is still selling, that’s why game boy are ruling the hand held market. That’s why arcades are so popular because they have graphics, not to mention Nintendo’s new consol now that’s going to rule.

People like you have no idea. Im just glad Nintendo are going for game play and adding a little fun into there games rather then Graphics graphics graphics.

Depends what you mean by works if,as said, the scale for turning off detail and other things is wide enough then the game can always be scaled down to "work" it just won't look good and even then it may not run smooth . The truth is though with the low price of fairly good hardware like say a cheap 7600gt (agp), if you can afford the game there is no reason you can't upgrade graphics card first, Epic cannot make all their games to cover a pc gamer running Win 95 on ten year old hardware. Vista setting new minimum requirements is no bad thing IMO

If it goes on like this I'll stop gaming. I will never buy a console. They are killing the PC gaming market. Any game that is on the xbox can also run on an average PC so its all politics. They want to kill the PC? ok fine I still won't buy your crappy consoles.

EDIT: your thread is actually not about marketing lol (didn't read)

Graphics are the biggest selling point in the industry

Maybe, but they really, really shouldn't be. To quote RaptoR (head honcho at Planet Gears of War and former BeyondUnreal staffer, so the guy knows his Epic games):

Gameplay lasts. Graphics don't.

In 3 years time, no-one going to give a damn about the graphics. They'll be playing the game - and by doing so making it it more likely that other people will - because the gameplay works. The graphics are eye-candy for magazine shots. Nothing more.

Epic will help push the hardware market forward when they release the game.

How? By allowing nVidia to release ever more offensively-priced graphics cards every six months that people can't afford? It's already becoming financially difficult to be a PC gamer these days. The hardware arms-race is making it that much harder every month. I'm wondering when the bubble is going to burst and the graphics market will come crashing down because sales drop because people won't be able to afford to buy the hardware anymore. That's going to leave Epic all dressed up with no place to go when their engine suddenly ends up being too powerful for anyone to run.

Is Intel killing PC gaming? No, nVidia is.

Whoah dude chill, let me rephrase it then. "Graphics are one of the biggest selling points in the industry". As for nintendo they've always targeted a different audience, they're goal in a sense is to show that its not all graphics these days like many software companies think. Some companies can find a good blend on visual effects : gamplay, but unfortunatley there are still some companies that chuck in a load of stunning visuals, but in reality the gameplay is somewhat lacking. And unfortunatley there are still people out there that fall for the stunning effects, and these companies cash in on it. Now I assume that mostly everyone in here is quite "in-the-know" about things like this, any good Unreal fan knows that its all about the gameplay.

Don't make assumptions bud, I'm quite a nintendo fan myself. I don't just see graphics, I look deeper into games. What I'm saying is that graphics do play a major role in a marketing sense. Want to know my machine specs at the moment? I got a single core 3800+, 512mb ram, a 40gig HDD (IDE), and a radeon X800gto2. Now do you think im all "Graphics graphics graphics"? Why do I buy games then? Because apart from relying on bleeding edge graphics, I look for games that have good gameplay, and will still be fun to play even though I wont get the best in graphical terms.

When has PC-Gaming not been financially difficult? There are 2 major companies in the graphics chipset industry, as we all know these 2 are ATI and nVidia. They are constantly battling it out to get a bigger slice of that market share. Each one trying to better the other, counterattacking each rival product with their own, slightly better product. Each one trying to make their card better on benchmarking tools... and handling the latest of games better. As they bring out a new range, the older range gets a slash in price. It works for them, they get their profit by doing this.
Yea I agree its all moving at an absolutley rediculous pace, I certainly cant keep up with it. Whats hardware if there is not software to run it on. By releasing UT2007, it will help (amongst other factors)the hardware move on . The next gen cards will be able to run it more efficiently, and current gen cards will be cut down in price. This is how its always been. I've never been able to afford bleeding-edge technology, i use the "bangs-for-bucks" system when shopping for hardware.

I agree.

Why the hell is Epic going to try to grab a market that has shown them little love in the past?

It's dumb. They need to realize that UT will never be HUGE console game.IT might sell, but not like they want.

Halo and other basically skilless games have that all tied up.In an effort to take some of their market share, they are making the game VERY vehicle based (Bad news IMO).On top of that, I feel like they look at more successful games like Halo, and see the limited movement, and think they need to do that to attract more players: WRONG!

*Epic just look at Halo: it wants to be UT, especiialy H2 where they made it more UT-esque with the jumping.

Now your gonna try to be like them???

This is like Metallica copying riffs off these nu metal bands( it did happen and METALLICA SUX NOW!).

Dumbing down this gmae, and straying from it's roots to far will tank any current success you have:

IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT !

I'm tellin ya, Epic needs to hire me.

I could show them how to make UT a winner on consoles and PC.What makes me know this so well?

Well I am a console gamer primarliy. I also worked in EB for years, and TRULY know what customers want, don't want, and are intrested in.

I figured out alot switching to PC, and the "average" mindset of each type of gamer. They ARE VERY different, and one would need to FULLY understand this to successfully launch a cross platfor title that is on PC.

I cannot think of many games that are successful on console as well as PC, amybe KOTOR, and thats about it.And Jedi Knight games.

Most Unreal Games have been multiplatform games with the exception of Unreal, Unreal tournament 2004 and Unreal Championship 2. Second. You working at EB does not mean you know who wants what and what gamers want. Needs differ from people to people. Dont look at the Atlanta Market place and compare it to the world. It doesnt work like that. Finaly. If you hit more consoles, your target audiance will become bigger and you'll generate alot more income that way. Epic will promote this game the way they want to promote it to the public.

there is a hell of a difference between arcade games, hand held consoles and pc games and it would be realy nice if we could all carry our pcs around in our pockets :)

Definatly.. to keep a game going for years to come you need the gameplay, im sure some of you still play goldeneye on the n64 and thats almost 10 years old
