By the time the next UT is released (Q2 07) we'll be on the second generation of DX10 graphics cards, Crysis and other full Dx10 games for vista will of been out some time probably on their second or third patch/new content. I mean a serious pc gamer who puts down $500 -600 for a card will use Vista of this there is no doubt. So question is ,can it really still be a DX9 only title?

Yes, it can. Why not? If it works well with DX9 and isn't designed to use DX10 features, then there's no point in having DX10 support.
Remember, in theory UT2004 has D3D9 support, but in practice it doesn't make sense to use the D3D9 driver because the game doesn't look or perform any better. "Just because" has never been a good reason to do something complicated.

But the jump in quality is far higher than the jump you mention Releasing a DX9 only game so deep into 07, may be ok . I am not being totally negative the Epic team deliver ,and as you said to offer DX10 support for gimmick reasons without real benefit would be stupid. However, by Q2 Vista should be flying with people wanting games that push their new hardware.

UT2007 will run on XP as well, so screw DX10 - that's not going to be available to XP users.

I like your attitude Wormbo let's go one step further screw XP let's all return VooDoo II 3D Graphics Cards with Windows 95. Maybe the Epic team have been too busy working on the console stuff.

Epic have a good history of making games that scale well to a large range of system specifications. Alienating a huge chunk of the audience by using DX10 features would be the most stupid thing they've done.
A lot of people (I would imagine a large proportion) can't or won't move to vista + DX10 cards in the first 6 months of 2007.

An exclusively DX10 title would be stupid, but no one suggesting that, the question was, what level of support, you can have full support, even if you have to do it by having both

Epic will probably have a patch to make this game DX10 compliant after release in anyway!

The don't need to make game DX10 compliant. DX9.0c game is already compliant with DX10. Or do you think that if we'll have Vista we won't be able to play UT2004, cause it's not DX10 compliant?

Happycat, there's no info on UT2007 release date. The Q2 was said by The Inquirer without stating any source of the news and that's equal for me to come and say "Guys, UT2007 will be an xbox360 exclusive title!". There would be absolutely no reason to believe me, more likely you won't believe me and will say this info is fake, cause I'm not telling where I got it and I'm not related to Midway and Epic in any way. The thing is that the same thing should have with The Inquirer news. But sadly people believed it. The Inquirer for me now is an electronic equivalent of The Sun.

I doubt DX10 would add features, it would most likely just boost performance.
