View Full Version : Mods we'd like to see reborn in 2k7

UT has always spawned a huge and varied selsction of custom gametypes and full-conversion mods. Which are those you'd most like to see be reincarnated for 2k7? If you're a mod-maker, which of your own mods do you plan to make?
Keep to actual custom gametypes or FC mods, please. No mutators in this thread!
First Choice: Gem Feeder.
This gametype is amazing, and I'd really love to see it reborn in 2k7. With the Third Helix team as skilled as they are in 2k4, the new engine should really allow this gametype to rock hard!
Second Choice: Node Seige
This sleeper hit is a single-CP domination varient that is way fun. On larger maps, it concentrates the fighting to new areas, and the shifting location of the node keeps the tactical challenges changing throughout the game.
Third Choice: Slave Master
The slave visual effects alone could be worth the effort on this one. And the 2k4 version uses some of the best -no, [i}the very best[/i]- announcer voice I've ever heard. Really, the announcer alone makes the 2k4 version stand out, and the gameplay is just great.
Other candidates: Alien Swarm (too bad Black Cat went to the dark side), Rocket Arena, Jailbreak (though Slave Master is a far superior alternative, since you never sit idle in a jail somewhere).

Some good Single Player Unreal Universe mods would be sweet!

Assassin: I'm not sure if it's been done. Dunno. Team game, one player per team is 'it' (full health/sheilds, no weapons). The rest of the team splits to go hunting or defend who's ever is it. Score by killing who ever is it. Myth players would know this gametype.

Alien swarm was wonderful! I spend a lot of time on LANpartyes playing AS. Bad luck that Shadow grounds doesnt have MP. (its game whitch copy AS) I hope that AS will be in UT2007.
Slave Master is also fun.

Jailbreak :) and it will be remade.
Oh hell yeah! That is a must.
THough it should have a been a stock gametype.
I wouldn't want to see any mod 'reborn'.
Perhaps a true next-gen variant, but definitely not a mere graphics-update.
Let's see more original mods become popular this time around.

I would like to see one or the other succesful gametype remade (look, the retail gametypes are remade too).
But for mods (in the TC meaning) I only want new ones.
I understand how mods can be popular and how many modders are dying to get their hands on the new engine to see what they can do with it,but with an overabundance of mods it separates everyone and instead of having big games and servers populated daily and nightly with regulars you have everyone spread out on 20 gametypes and mods.We already have mutators to deal with.
I agree there are some good ones out there. There always has been with the UT series.
I just hope when its all said and done we have enough players to keep it all going for whatever everyone likes to play.
If I had to choose I would pick jailbreak as mentioned.

Same i'd love to see it in UT2k7, but as a gametype in UT2k7 not a stinking TC, TC's are annoying as hell.

Mods is one of the last things PC gaming has going for it! They extend the replay value of a game a million fold and allow the average gamer to experiment providing an influx of new Ideas into PC games. The most popular game online started out as a mod, CS. Epic doesn't need to scuttle the creativity of modders too keep the community together, It just needs to reel in a wider Audience for UT2k7. Changes to make this game more similar to UT99 will do that just fine, Warfare and vehicles too! Having moves like dodge jump won't.
If there was a file distribution and user rating system built into UT2k7, It might help filter the good maps/mods from the crap, and get mods to a wider audience so more people are playing them at once. ATM, anyone going onto a public server doesn't know what **** they're downloading, lots of bad maps and mods floating around there because they're only rated on external sites.

Some good Single Player Unreal Universe mods would be sweet! If I have anything to say about it, Old Skool Monsta Toolz (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=530508) will be revamped for UT2007. Most likely with creature models that belong in a next-gen game engine.

Sweeet!:D
There was a large fall-off for Unreal Single Player mods on UEngine2 because of the lack of SP support compared to UT99.( Although that game was built on top of an SP game already)
Hopefully Kismet improves the situatuon drastically, but having the basic SP gametype, load and save functions already under the hood of UT2K7 at release would be improve the situation a billion fold.

The CUT99 Gravity vortex was always my favourite super weapon, works much better than the Redeemer on DM Morpheus/Liandri

Jailbreak! MSUC, here we come!!
ps. This is a more of an advanced gametype, not a mod like CarBall or whatever. It'd be like porting CTF from UT2004 to UT2007. ;)

I don’t no about reborn, but I'm hoping for fresh, out of this world, mind blowing mods.
NOT just FPS FPS FPS FPS...
The sonic mod would be sweet on UT07.:D.

I second this. Classic Dom was my favorite gametype, back in the day. Hell, I even stuck with Double Dom in 2k3, but classic is the way to go.
I'd love it if the Real Tournament team got back together. Real Tournament for UT99 was so sweet.
Also, Holy Wars. Remember that?

UT XMP!, God, if Warfare doesn't turn out as promised, then UT XMP would go down ****ing sweeeeeeeeet!
Classic Domination and CUT ofcourse. I hope it will be easier to make SinglePlayer Maps/Mods this time, a huge part of the SP community got the rip when UT2kx came out since there was no continuity of UT99 ability to run SP maps!
Most of the SP community are still haven't are still using Unreal Engine 1.5 and haven't made the jump to UE 2.5 because of this!

Rocket Arena is a must for me... I played UT:RA almost exclusively for 2 or 3 years... I love the crap outta RA.
SP Unreal universe mod would kick so much ass I have a hard time coming to terms with how sweet that would be or how much I'd soil my pants if that mod came to fruition.
Domination was fun for a change and I'd lik to see it return.

wow thats going back a ways - that was a fun mod :)
would love to see 4 teams games come out early in the ut2007 lifecycle (hope Epic helps a little with it this time to make additional teams easier to code in)
cant wait to see what modders will do with this engine! hoping for another go round with Jailbreak and would be great to see LawDogs reappear in 2k7.
JailBreak.
UTComp ... aren't mutators small modifications?)
UTComp is an abonimation as it pretty much breaks the most fundamental rule for mutators/mods in UT : it is incompatible with practically every other mutator out there.
Jailbreak on the other hand is the perfect example of a mod-team using the groundwork laid by Epic to built a new gametype that fits like the proverbial glove. Instead of merely hacking their way through the code thes guys used it like it was meant to be used. I'm kind of suprised that Epic hasn't asked them to add their gametype to the official list of gametypes for UT2k7 ...
I really hope that any team that is going to build a mod for UT2k7 takes a moment to learn what those guys have done and how they did it.

Jailbreak has alway sbeen quality stuff. The UT99 jailbreak was simply superb, with the skinable HUD and all.
Anyone remember the Heroes mod? Freakishly fun, and a very creative use of the 4-team structure included with the game to good effect.
