Does anyone know if the PS3 and PC versions of UT2k7 will go online together? *crosses fingers*

EPIC still is looking into that. Had been done before with other consoles and other FPS, but it worked (the consoleros didn't stand a chance though).

Let's keep it that way. FOREVER!

Gameplay shouldn't be the same on PC and PS3 ! I wish there won't be any cross platform...

I think it would be stupid IMO.

If they let you plug a Keyboard and Mouse into your PS3, then sure we should have cross platform.

mouse against controller is like aimbot against legit... just jump over your enemy and he needs 2 seconds even to turn around ;)

mouse against controller is like aimbot against legit... just jump over your enemy and he needs 2 seconds even to turn around ;)That's not really true, ShadowRun aparently is having a hard time keeping the controller players from mopping the floor with the PC players. Then again there's not a whole lot extra mouse precision can do... if the console players can revive and teleport through walls. You can't shoot what you can't get line-of-sight on, and you can't kill something that can be revived :p

But yea for UT, PS3 players would be ownt.

Hmmz, I dunno Im guessing the controller players might be driving rings around pc players. Mouse steering would be a nice option but I doubt it would match analog sticks :)

And there is that umm whole motion thingo

epic is deciding as to whether or not cross-console could work. technically speaking, the technology is all there, it's the question about whether or not the console gamers would stand a chance against the pc players. im pretty sure there are some serious console kings when it comes to fps, but pcs in the end are just easier to play with.

It's just it's very likely they will let only Sony-"certified" devices to be plugged in. So prepeare to buy new KB and mouse, each 10-15 bucks more expensive.

So the mouse is better for aiming but controller is better for driving?
That's great because I've already got a USB device that lets me use a PS2 controller on my computer so I've got the aiming of PC and the driving of a console.
Even if they do release a mouse for ps3 not everybody will buy it. (it'll be another overpriced hardware since it has no competing brand that is compatible with the PS3)
The reason that Microsoft did not make a mouse for xbox was

Obviously the mouse users would have a large advantage over non mouse users
they don't want the xbox becoming a dumbed down PC
(or rather break the illusion that console gamers have which keeps them from realizing that they're playing a computer with very limited features)

You already have cross platform games on the PS2. Need for speed underground has this feature.

I can imagine the amount of aimbot accusations, and also loads of PS3 players who think the game is only for PS3 or that you're gay for using a PC.

They'll have bind a button on the PS3 controller to "******* HACKER" unless they use a keyboard...

Why would you even want to waste the money on a PS3 to play UT2007? I mean its the only game i want for PS3, but i am already getting it for my PC. As far as cross-platform goes, they would have to make the fast-paced PC action alot more slow paced to work with consoles. Not to mention the PS2's controller is complete crap for playing shooters

As for wasting your money, have you even seen how expensive a decent gaming PC is these days? Jesus, a Nvidia GTX card is almost as expensive as the PS3!

ANY controller is crap for playing shooters. At least the PS3 has out-of-the-box keyboard and mouse support, unlike the crapbox 360.

I heard them saying this was an idea, noy sure if it's been implemented. They're not hyping it, so bet on it not being there.Either way the only point I see in it is prolonging the life of the consiole versions via user maps etc.

We alll know too well what would happen to a controller toter.

You can get a PCI Express Nvidia 7900 for under $200 for months now.

You can get a PC that will run UT07 for about $800 maybe.Easily, especially if you just by the sysUnit.Or build it form scratch: I say even cheaper cause my friend just did it for like $600, but did'nt get the greatest monitor.

Sans 7900 mind you, but Im certain a 7900 will be suffiecient on a PCI express slot.
He got a 6600 I think, but he can drop bout $170 on whatever sit (oversestimated), and there it is.

For a PS3 you go get you console: $600
Game:$55.00
*other randomly forced item tack-on they will inevitably get you with in some for:Say oh cabels, controllers, BATTERIES.

Oh and your *gyroscopic* controller breaks, how much is that gonna cost, or just one for player 2?

Nah: boo on that.

I REALLY want a PS3 for MGS4. I love that game series, but screw that crap dude.

PS3 does support keyboard and mouse. At E3 05 that is one of the things they were saying "games such as ut2k7 will support keyboard and mouse". So to me it would make perfect sense to allow ps3 and pc to connect. Sure PS3 owners might be at a disadvantage but if they want to be able to play the game as it should be played they ought to buy the keyboard and mouse accessories anyway.
Quake3 for the DC was online enabled but I'm sure hardly anyone plays it online now. Say if someone did try to play the DC version online they still might have competition because it connected to the PC version.. otherwise I doubt they would ever have competition 7 years after launch.
Really the only reason I'm hoping they connect is 600$ ps3 gets you full graphics and good frame rate. I'd love to be able to skip out on upgrading my pc and still be able to play online with all the friends I've made from 2k4.
Come on Epic... do it.

I thought someone from Epic had said that each version would (PC/PS3) would be slightly different based on the strong points of each system, without making compromises for either.

I forgot where I read that, but if it's true, cross-platform compatibility would seem a bit odd to me.

i'd say make it work, but also make sure there are pc-only and console-only servers, especially for the beginners on the console that'd be safest if you dont want them to throw their copy of the game out of the window in a rage/frustrationattack 2 hours after purchase :E

AND: The auto-aim help (which is common when a controller is used) should in any case be disabled when a PS3 user uses mouse and keyboard (for PS3-PS3 matches) and it should be off too if he enters a match where PC users are allowed.

sphinx

might work tbh, although any player that wants to be able to get to atleast -some- level, should just stick with the pc-version :>

Oh come off it, I spent less on my current pc that a PS3 is gonna cost, and that includes the a64 3500, ASRock dual sata mobo, a GB of ballistix pc4000 ram, a radeon x700 (agp in this case, but the mobo supports pci-e as well), the case, and iirc, the tagan 480 watt PSU to boot - if I can't pick up the upgrade bits (remember that word people?) to play 2K7 for 3 to 400 smackers or less I'd be very surprised.

As a pc player, there's no reason why you should *have* to buy a whole new machine unless your house gets blown up by terrorists, there's always some parts you can continue to use until you feel like upgrading further.

As to cross-platform, well it'd have to be entirely stock-content, limited maps, no mutators, etc.. well, we have demo servers right now that essentially do just that.
If epic wanted to it could be done easily enough - we all laugh at demo servers (and demo players, be honest now.. ;)) but there's o reason why the infrastructure that currently is dedicated to demo servers couldn't be switched over to the cross-platform servers, hell, it'd make financial sense too, since if they're kept seperate that means everyone who's serious about running servers will need twice as many, one for Pc & one for console-jockies.

Personally I think it'd be fun to mix the counties, as long as it's just for laughs & folks don't take it too seriously.. :)
