View Full Version : ASMD shock rifle - often used, but what does it mean?

i am using "ASMD" instead of "shock rifle" myself, but what does that stand for? i've been googling for it, wikipedia (even the dutch version!) didn't say anything about it.
in short: what does "ASMD" abbreviate?

And Suck My D*ck

Seriously, it's a reference to some film iirc, where some guy blows up a barrel of petrol in mid air with a gun (shock combo-esque)

"It stands for 'And Suck My D*ck'," explains 23-year-old Cliff Bleszinski, the game's co-designer. "It has a special move that just annihilates all the ****ers around it."

Yes, ASMD stands for "And Suck My D**k".

As for the 8-ball. I always assumed it was because the rockets/nades were approximately the size of an 8-ball in pool (billards).

ASMD Antiship Missile Defense
This definition fits a lot better for ONS in UT2k4 :p.

Now I want a movie based off of Unreal so I can hear the actor say 'WTF is that green exploding sh!t?" and after killing an alien with the ASMD, saying” and suck my d!ck you MF". Besides all the other franchises have movies after them, it's time for Unreal to make the scene ;).

I cringe at the very thought of them making another FPS movie like DOOM!
No offense against Unreal itself, but they'll try to put the game litteraly on the screen instead of making a proper movie with characters and a real plot.
Since Im not interested in watching a non-interactive videogame for one and a half hours, (I'd rather just play a game) I don't think they should make an Unreal movie if is a just an excuse to port the game onto the silverscreen. That FPS sequence in DOOM is just cringe-worthy.

If they did an Unreal movie, they would probably think having Aliens was too implausible and replace them with genetic experiments in anyway!

The story of crashed survivors on an Alien planet should be the primary focus of an Unreal movie, not just an excuse to have pointless FPS scenes of humans shooting monsters.

Doom the movie wasn't too bad. Though, the game cut scene did kind of ruin it. They seem to be getting better with making movies off of games though, so a movie based off of Unreal could be quite good, esp if they stuck close to the original plot of the game.

I've no doubt you could make a good movie out of Unreal, I've some ideas of how to do it infact, its just that greedy executives that don't have a clue about movies will butcher it just to cash in on it. They'll DOA it basically, instead of focusing on making a good engaging movie.

I don't want to be put through the torture of watching a non-interactive videogame instead of a film. Maybe if Halo turns out be good, this will set a new trend in VG movies!

It'll always be the ASMD whether it says so or not, ASMD is the name of the technology that makes it work, hence the Izarian Shocklance in Unreal 2 is based on ASMD technology.

So if the USAF makes a new atmospheric fighter based on Space Shuttle technology will it always be a Space Shuttle? No. ASMD technology could mean that is the name of the tech or just mean some of the tech that was used in the ASMD.

Well looking at the Silent Hill trailor it looks alright but Dead or Alive, cmon thats just eye candy. Doom could have been soo much better lucky it was actually the acting that saved it. Tomb Raider the first movie was decent as with Mortal Kombat the first one so we'll just have to wait and see.

It looks to be a buzz atm though with Resident Evil, movies to games probably brings alot of money in so if they are good or bad they'll still be made. I guess if they do an Unreal movie we can only hope it sits up there with the best of the game movie remakes and not at the bottom.

Edit: and yeah a bit of ontopix, wasnt there a shock lance before somewhere? Then adapted to a rifle. hmmz

A Doom Movie without demons and Hell, WTF were they thinking?

They obviously chickened out doing demons ands switched it to genetic monsters. They think if they stick genetics into it, people will find that more plausible cause that sounds sciency, WRONG! All it shows it show is that the producers and writers didn't believe in the project, didn't have the talent to potray supernatural and psycological terror onscreen witthout making it look farcicle!
A real Doom movie should undermine peoples comforts in modern science, and get straight under their skin, people are afterall terrified of the unknown. The Omen, The Exorcist, American Werewolf in London, Ringu, they are real horror films and should have been an example to the makers of Doom! All we got was Resident Evil on mars! Maybe even the Devil himself should have been in DOOM!

Okay thats enough of a rant for now!

Unreal would basically have stand on its own to be a good movie. I think it would work best if the film focuses on the suvivors banding together from the wrecks of the ISV Kran, and the Vortex Rikers and have them trek across Na Pali over weeks trying to get there bearings in this utterly Alien world, rather than 'one man Army takes down the Skaarj Empire' like in the game.

Atleast this way it would be focused on characters!

Izarian Shocklance in Unreal 2, meant to be based on ASMD tech.
Wasn't my favourite weapon in the series, but the design rocks!

Doom the movie had a plot, characters, a bit of comedy and stuff. The reason that some people didn't like it was because they expected it to be a horror movie, but they got more action than horror (like the people that bought UT2003 thinking it was UT99 ;). I watched it without expecting anything, and came out feeling better than those poor fans expecting a runthrough of doom1.

And the FPS sequence lasted for less than 5 minutes. If you actually paid attention through the movie you'd learn that it was there for a reason other than for the effect.

I'd explain it, but I'm not sure how to add spoiler tags in the new forum. :)

Yeah!
The plot could be this: Malcolm is a street kid with nothing but his hoverboard and dreams. He manages to compete against the odds to become a skating champion and defeats his rival Gorge by pulling off the wicked sick anti-grav 900 in front of millions.

Malcolm: The Unreal Story.

PS, why would Arnie play Malcolm?

I came up with a name for ASMD as a company than giving it a name as the weapon. I just called it Axon Special Military Development Shock rifle. and oddly enough shocking is something only its altfire really does because altfire is an emp charge. Primary fire is a photon beam.
