Ive always liked the idea of ladders and manual doors in dm and other gamemodes. Although it does slow the pace of play if used correctly these can make a map better. I would like to see more used in maps especially ladders as they can provide a good choke point and ambush area. Lifts work much the same way but move alot quicker, with lift jumping it makes if very difficult to use them tactically as a defensive choke point. Ofcoarse lifts can be made manual as well.
The good thing about manual doors/lifts etc is you can use them to setup traps like in the maps, DM-Pressure or quake2's frag pipe, which leads to some fun frags. It doesnt always have to be about killing your opponent with a weapon but out smarting them as well.
In no way am I saying every door and lift have to be manual btw!

You want ladders and manual doors yet you object to a simple fast pace move like Crouch Jump? Shame on you!:D
I don't object to ladders/manual doors being availble for mappers when UT2k7 is released because it makes it easier for anyone doing a Single Player project.
Some traps in UT2k7 wouldn't go amiss either.

Traps are really nice and should be used more often.
As for the door, they should only give the option to do it else we will have to guess which door open manually or not and it will be very annoying.
For the ladders, bah in an arcade game I would rather have lift than climb up ladders very quickly without ur hand and being able to do unrealistic 360 on it.. like in Counter-Strike. Also ladders would cause a lot of camping f*ckers that would rape you when you would come up so it's an extreme bad idea.

Ramps, Slides, Jumppads, lifts and some good old fasioned wall dodging can replace anything you need to do with a ladder!

Yeah you make really good points there panzer, Im not really a shock/lgun player so I dont see these problems. Id just hit ya will flakk when you come up :P The idea would to keep it so your hands are completely free and you can move quickly as well as the 360 deal.
I can see what your saying about doors as well but I was thinking more in an obvious context like that hl map with the airstrike, pressure etc instead of just a simple door you need to go through to get to another area.
Manual lifts are something I always liked and are good because you dont have to jump over a lift incase it goes up. It takes like no time to find the button press use and make your way up. Doors are a bit different because the button is off to the side usually and can kill the flow of a map. A good thing about manual triggered objects is you can hit the trigger to start the sound so people will come gunning for ya, in which case you can hide and I guess camp alittle bit, hammering them from behind :D
Edit: and yes gregori you also make good points, Im a huge fan of dodge ramps but Id like to see maps with varying pace not just run run gun gun gun. This is not saying stealth either, just a bit more think think gun run frag!

Traps and doors.. nice idea. And ladders, when you climb, you cannot use weapons. Would be cool for assault gametype (though it not included in UT2007)
for some objectives (like, clim on hill and hold it for some time)
You do make some interesting points and I agree that would shake things up a bit by offering more tactics. But as you said slowing gamepace, hmm not liking the sound of that.
Nearly every half way decent player I come across loves lift jumping with combos and what not.Hell I actually like being fragged out of the midair with a sweet shot while doing a lift jump. The more the airplay the better I usually say.
You did say not all lifts though so ok.I do like the ladder part though. You do not see many ladders in maps for 2k4 it seems and most maps just have Z ramps, lifts,or jump pads. Some other options would be nice.
Some way to set up traps is always fun.Opening a floor to drop someone into lava is always amusing.Smashing them with a 2 ton hammer like HealPod map is a guaranteed smile.Stuff like that is always welcome in my book.A map that the passages, ramps, and or environment changes randomly or manual would be nice too imo.
I would not be against it one bit so long as it was still fast and did not promote camping.
