What would you build? I'm willing to bet there’s a view of you out there in the same boat. :) If I had to build my next gaming rig below is what I would do…

Typically I shot for about $1.5k knowing I won’t be spending money on a soundcard, monitor, keyboard, or mouse. This time is a little different- I need a new monitor (been using the same one since the 90's!). Below the total is about $3.2k- I'm pretty sure after I get the monitor out of the way and by the time the demo comes out I'll be close to the $2k mark...

I frequent Tomshardware.com, newegg.com, and subscribe to Maximum PC and CPU mags to give me a small clue… I'm not a pro builder by any means.

Monitor - Yea- you can now move to an LCD... The wife got a 20 inch LCD widescreen that I just love... SPEND THE extra $$ on this since this is what you'll be looking at for a LONG TIME.... it will live thru many upgrades- for example I haven’t bought a new monitor for MY gaming PC since 1997!

[B]Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP

Processor - 1 below the fastest on the market is my rule of thumb. Sad to see Intel smok’n AMD, but hey – tough- I need a fast dual core processor for my gaming rig!

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 1066MHz FSB 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775

Motherboard - need that SLI (for future upgrade), ASUS has never let me down….

ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel

Video Card - will only get 1, then add additional for SLI after about 6 months..

BFG Tech BFGR79512GTOCE Geforce 7900GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Memory - Both MaxiumPC and CPU mags suggest "Corsair DDR2/800

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit

Hard Drives - in RAID 0 of course… faster faster faster!

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3400633AS 400GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

Power Supply – just like the monitor, don’t skimp on this… power problems are a ***** to troubleshoot…

PC Power & Cooling S61EPS EPS12V 610W Continuous @ 40°C Power Supply 90 - 264V UL/ULC/CE/CB/TUV

Case the all important - cool factor. I’m to lazy to customize a case…

ASUS VENTO 3600 Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Keyboard and Mouse - no change. I’ve had the G5, the razor diamondback, neither did it for me… I'm very happy with my Salik Eclipse keyboard and logic 510 optical mouse.

I'm open to any suggestions and feedback... I'm still shocked that I'm going Intel now... :D

If it came out tomorrow I would wait till the winter or early 2007 to get a more powerful rig that could handle not just the game but all custom content as well.

Im upgrading processor to top of the line, and i am getting a direct x 10 card when they come out later. You might want to build a nice comp, but dont spend as much on things you want to upgrade when you get Ut2007

Why can't people spell "you're" correctly?

Anyway: I'd get one of the quad core xeon macs and fit in a better graphics card. As it happens at the moment I'm waiting for Intel's quad core annoucement.

Yeah it does make you wonder cause wasnt the 8900 an ati card? Perhaps nvidia will adopt a new naming convention for there next range of cards like a dx10900 or something lolz

Will UT2k7 be supported on a Mac OS?

I think it's released at the same time as the other one. But that doesn't matter because I can and will install Windows.

Mac Pro Quad Core (Dual Xeon Woodcrest) , 4 Gigs RAM, Fastest GPU available that will work with OS X

Dual boot into XPee or Linux for UT2007 until the Mac version is available.
