Would mappers be able to create matinee sequences like the one with the TwinBlade guy and the robot dueling? Would it be possible to actually create your own animations other then having to use a 3D application like max or maya?

Character animations still happen in outside 3D packages. Matinee has basically replaced the old concept of movers too. Doors and lifts are animated with a Matinee action triggered and controlled within the Kismet scripting system.

You can get pretty down and dirty with keyframing if you want. For instance, the mine cart ride in Gears of War shown at X05 was completely keyframed within the editor by a level designer.

It's powerful, but not powerful enough to create character animations or anything too crazy like that.

willhaven: Has using Kismet on lifts improved their functionality online?

What do you mean exactly? In terms of new functionality, yeah, Kismet and Matinee give us the ability to do pretty complex things. Far more complex than you could ever do with UE2 tech.

Im not sure about this, but isnt there a problem with lifts going through people etc?

I could be barking under the wrong tree here but i think some modders complained about this.

I know that i had that problem in Grendel but that might just be PL?

You mean when the lift goes back down and it goes thru you? I think thats on purpose to stop people standing under it so it just bounces back up and no one can use it.

Matinee controlled movers, now that sounds cool. Sort of messed with the idea awhile back, couldn't pull of my idea so I dropped it. Will you guys be adding a few Tuts on the new stuff the editor can do, hate roaming blind in the dark… :D

I assume that all of the UE3 related UDN documents will go public once UT2007 is released. It's pretty much all covered in there.

What about the UE2x UDN documents? is there any chance of getting a look see at those, Im not sure if theyd be relevant at all but Id like to check it out to see if there's anything that might be useful for uc2004. Thanks.

Edit: Yeah I just checked too, what about the UE2.5 ones. If the UE3 ones get unlocked before those it would be kinda a bummer. Like I said though Im not sure what relevant info etc is in there so if you could let us know if its not that would be helpful as well :p
