*THIS COULD BE TOTAL CRAP!

I heard a rumor that Microsoft has bought out Epic.

They say that is this "Big Announcement" that they've been talking about all week on the new Epic boards, mostly in the GoW area.

It could mean good and bad things for the Unreal fan.

On top of that, I also heard today that the ESRB is going to start changing ratings on games based upon modded content.Supposedly, ther is some game that had nunde models made for it, and the rating of going to be affected.This was frommy old boss at EB, and that type of info tend to be right on.

So what does this portend for the UT mod community?

How will developers now approach modded content of their games?

If a game carries a AO(Adults Only) rating or whatever , just due to the posibility of a nude downloadable skin, then I think game makers (Epic) might have to stop allowing FULL mods and stuff like that.

This makes my stomach clinch.

In additon if MS is aquiring Epic, thats more than likeley bad news for mods too.

You know how Microsoft loves their "property".

That is some pretty hard-core news and I'm more worried about the ESRB stepping up to rate games that can be Modded - although, that's really only going to affect the PC community... that is, unless, XBox Live Marketplace somehow starts offering User Modded DLC come the future.

Although, maps for Far Cry and whatnot have already been available on consoles for quite some time. Well, we can blaim this on GTA San Andreas' little Hot Coffee Scandal last year - even though something like this would've surfaced eventually.

Anyhow, I really doubt that Microsoft purchased Epic, although if it's true... it's better than EA or Sony being the ones.

Honestly snoogans I would prefer that EA took over at least market aspect or bioware, or blizzard, or umm...nm. That may help the community a lot. For the rating part of it, I am down with that anyways. The game been about gore and blood, and straight up killing. So I can understand that mature people play this game, but it should be left to the adults. Sorry youngsters [face_wink]. It may suck that I speak such phrases. But I would rather that happen, then some punk kid that killed someone, and blamed it on UC/UT. Then it may end up banned from the stats if the media gets too involved. It may suck for developers too though, but will it really bother mod creators to stop making nude mods? But seeing as our world is not perfect, then I know there will be knuckleheads that won't obey. It will hurt the community a little. But I don't think it will affect it that much.

I'll admit, that I do happen to have quite a bunch of EA games in my collection - and if a game is fun, I'll play it regardless of who's behind the helm. However, I just don't seem to enjoy the ex[erience quite as much since its an EA brand. Ever since they purchased the exclusive rights to the NFL license, they made every effort to monopolize the gaming industry - and because of this, it's clear that the quality of their games have been suffering drastically.

You must be young. First off my statements were of no offense. If you were hurt by them, then I appologize. But I am not going to change my thoughts for anyone. I have standards, and now that I have a kid, I would want him to be mature with games. The reality of it all is that most kids aren't. In some way or fashion, they will tend to mock what others do. 99% of the time they learn from parents, tv, games, music, and other kids. Or world is corrupted enough. I am totally all green lights for kids that can "handle" such content, but our world just isn't that way. We are leaving in our last days. And I am sorry to offend once again. If you think you can mimic a game, and take someone's life just cause you said it looked cool in a game, then I will crack down on anyone I can influence. I won't allow my child to suffer the ultimate price, because of what others seen or done, and thought it was okay. I also won't let my kid watch porn, and I categorize that, and some games, and even some cartoon shows (boondocks, robot chicken, adult swim for example) as extreme. Those are words from a grownup, and with experience. When I was a teenager, I didn't understand why I couldn't play mortal kombat. But I am now wise to why. I am not blaming epic, or any game for that matter. Media has a way to have a percentage of it's share towards kids and violence. Dude don't get mad. It's not like I am the president of epic, and telling them to change it now. I just couldn't live with myself if it happened to my kid. Also, ut will not be around forever. No game is, except final fantasy or star wars maybe. But still. If you are affraid of them going to stop making games, then I think you have a chance, as well as others, to make a difference. We are the future, and if you don't want it to end, then you start making games yourself. That is what I do, and plain on making my own company. But like I said games end when either a: finances are shot, b: creators aren't interested in there development c: consumers turn to other brands. So do something about it. Your still young. Don't get mad at my opinions. Humans are unique because we are not uniformed. So that I am not on the same boat as you. But when you have kids, then I hope you understand.

I was never pointing YOU out. But since you are here, then you should know what i mean about teens. When you go to school, I know you see people imatitating things that they have seen/watched/played, right? And if so, some of those things seem dangerous, that can either hurt or harm someone, right? Well I hate that, and that was what i was pointing out. If you play maturely, and you can decipher from what's fiction, and what's reality, then by all means go play your gore games. If you were my child, then I would let you, but I will still be concerned of your safety, because other teens are not that way.

i was never mad, well yes i do see it i hear some kids say that they have seen a BEHEADING i know what u mean about everything and i also think u are a great parent. Well this is how i can play unreal: i asked my mom and dad if i could buy UC1 and they were like well i want to see the cover etc. so they saw the cover and said: well its not real and it doesnt look real so yeah u can buy it. (pretty simple but they do are right) and when i was playing unreal other mature titles were out and i want one so they asked my brother if it was a good game for me and he said well yeah i think so and thats the way i am playing mature titles.

and if i look at my games almost everyone is a mature title and i dont see why kids cant play them ofcourse some cant cuz they want to do it in real life but thats just plain stupid imo.

I was around 10 when I entered the wonderful world of Unreal Tournament :)

Regardless of how old or mature that kid thinks they are, they really just should'nt be exposed to that stuff.

I know my kids will not be aloowed mature contnet until thy're at least 16 or so.

And shred that is so true. But also some games I believe do not deserve a mature or adult rating, and vice versa. My thing is that it should never be up to society to make the decision about what games can be played or not. The only thing they should do is consider. That should be left up to the parents, period. If you think about most games genre's, it will deal with some type of killing. Even rachet and clank, kingdom hearts, simpsons, tom and jerry, batman, etc., etc., all deal with it. And these are pronounced kid games. Well most that I have mentioned. But still, I don't have control over what the developers make. I can only filter what my kid can play. But even still, its all entertainment. And if your kids grades are kept up to par, they can do there chores and homework, clean up when things aren't put were they are suppose to be, and the show a sign of distinguishing between good and wrong while perform the best option, then fine. Go ahead. This can go further then video games. What about tv. Remember transformers, voltron, thunder cats. They all showed a good side, versus a bad side. And if your child stays on the good side, then it should be okay. But even after saying that, there are exceptions.

Look at the last just 30-40 years in general.Compare women of the 50's to those of today.Compare the men.Compare the music.Lifestyle, family.

It's the type of thing you just don't understand until your pretty much grown.

Just let me put it this way:

My parent always let me decide, and gave me some boundries, but generally I was able to partake in mature content at a young age.Mostly cause I come from a single parent household my Ma was just not around, she was working.

I just wish I was like one of those super sheltered Nieve kids.

Though it is powerful to know how the world really works.

Due to all this I thought I was able to handle things I was too young tooo be getting into.I made some mistakes, and now I may never fully recover from these.

See, I too experienced things that I wasn't "ready" to see. Things that never should have happened, at least at my age or even lifetime. Yet I did, and it truly messed me up. The way it ties up to other media is that if you seen it in real life, then your whole perspective of "entertainment" is not fun that much as it could have been if you understood the things that happen at that very moment in life, but instead you feel the "haunting" experience. Though you try your best to like it, because honestly you may do, but your past still lingers with you, and you weren't ready for it.

Microsoft is a very good at making their games shine. Granted that Halo 2 sucks, but there it still suprasses every other Xbox live game in a number of ways(I hate it though). All other MS games I have played, I loved.

Midway is good too, but I gaurantee if MS produced UC2, it would have better network coding. They have a higher standard for that.
