View Full Version : Reflecting strategies (sniper in particular)

I was playing a game today and got a couple of reflections from a sniper riffle and someone said it was luck. I beg to differ. I wouldn't say it was "skill" but it was knowledge of the weapon and how it is used that got me those rejections. From the momment I picked up this game I realised that reflecting is something that was a MUST to get good at. The first step to being good at reflecting a sniper is not timing or lightning fast reflexes but knowledge of the weapon. It is essential you know the rate of fire every weapon has not just the sniper. By this I mean how long does it take for you to fire a second shot. If you know this you can reflect shots just off this knowledge alone. For example the sniper riffle takes 2.5 to 3 seconds before you can fire a second shot after a first. So if someone fires a shot at you count in your head the time then press reflect. Chances are they shoot at you again right a this time and presto REJECTION! This works great against people who like to continuelly fire off shots. This strategy works well for all weapons once you got a feel for their rate of fire. I'm not to sure on all the exact times but I do got a feel for all of them so if someon wants to post the times please do.

Now of course people aren't stupid. They will quickly pick up that you know the recoil time and quickly change up there fire. Instead of shooting as soon as possible they will wait a split second or even longer to throw your timing off. Don't worry all is not lost. The other thing you can do is what I call dictating your oponents shots. You ask how do you dictate someone's shot? Easy give them a shot that you think they will take, anticipate it, and reflect at the appropriate time. How can you possibly do this? Well the easiest way is by jumping. Good snipers can hit a target in the air. Use this to your advantage. Most people who snipe jumpers do one of two things. They shoot you at the peak of your jump or when you land. So when you jump simply hit reflect at your peak and when you land. Simple. You don't even need to see the shot. chances are if you waited till you saw it you wouldn't be able to react anyway. Anticipation is the key to sniper reflections.

So you got your timing on the recoil right and you are reflecting at the peak and landing of your jumps. You are still a target and no where close to being invulnurable. What else can you do? Well If you are running around and you notice a sniper looking at you and not shooting he is obviously aiming, probably leading you and waiting till you cross his crosshairs. Most people do one of two things. Spam the reflect button or guess where when he will take that shot. These are all good strategies that work well but heres another one. Again dictate his shot. Put your shield up take it down then reflect. He probably sees your shield up and is waiting for you to put it down before he shoots. Again presto REJECTION! and you have a sniper wondering just how the hell you reflected his shot. With this last one I'm not too sure how well it works. I've done it plenty of times but I thought it was possible to get a head shot if even if someone's shield is up. I could be wrong so someone tell me if this is true or not.

These strategies in no way shape or form will make you invulnurable to a good sniper. A good sniper will land his shots sooner or later. But these WILL help and if you practice them you will find that you reject sniper shots more often and leave opponents amazed at your lightning quick "reflexes" or dumb "luck".

Good info just to reiterate like you said reflection isn’t a true answer to sniper hell, but rather an alternative. If ya nail them with a reject then great, but don't rely on it to always save your butt. You only have so much weapon energy before you're rip for headshots again. Have a plan in mind and use your energy tactfully, so you can close distance, or find cover, or escape before your energy runs out.

"I thought it was possible to get a head shot if even if someone's shield is up. I could be wrong so someone tell me if this is true or not."

Well yes and no, if you have your shield up and are facing the sniper then no your head can't be shot off. However if your shield is angled to the side or something then yes it's bye-bye head.

yeah if you think you are going to reflect every sniper shot then you are sadly mistaken and only inviting death. These work best when you don't do it all the time because good players easily pick up on what you are doing, they probably do it themselves, so use it spearingly. But if you pick your spots you will catch them off guard. I'm good enough with the recoil time that if I see you are just continously firing sniper shots at me you are asking for a rejection. So if you get sloppy and just fire away I will reject them quite easily.

IF they are smart, chances are, its a 12 year old, so hes not very smart, he'll just get pissed and call you a melee whore

When someone is reflect spamming, and I am using the sniper rifle, I switch to the Grenade and begin to Air Burst right away. I am not rinsking giving a free kill to someone because they are clicking the left trigger.

Yeah its technically "spamming" the left trigger but its more like "educated" spamming. You taking educated guesses at when he is going to shoot. You don't get it right all the time but its more accurate than just simply clicking the left trigger till you run out of energy. When I do it I only hit the button once at the time I think he will shoot. Can't just waste valuable shield energy.

Another thing that helps is to watch your opponent. Yesterday I got a sniper reflection off watching someone and reflecting at the peak of his jump. He was jumping and sniping me so I picked up on his shooting pattern, switched to melee and got a quick rejection. Now if only I can get good at other aspects of this game.[face_sad]

a good thing to do as well is the shield trick.if you press the left trigger then right youll reflect then put your shield up.so if you miss the reflect at least the shield will save you but it take alot out of your shield bar

Sometimes I kill people like that by accident, I just mean to shield but I reflect it.

also reflecting when; the opponent does the dash to achieve the SMACKDOWN,then also jumping at towards the other player while in melee makes in precise trajectory of the projectile back to the opponent.also I only gotten an EIGHTBALL once.OH yeah like raiden says u fight like johnny cage.

The whole thing about rejection, is if you can, you trap them. Like Junior said, jump, or do something that you know will make them shoot. I you see a sniper right in front of you, weave left and right real quick, and If doesn't shoot at you when you weave, then reject. A good sniper usually won't shoot unless your right in the crosshair.

And if the sniper isn't that good, and he misses, you can still reject the shot, as long as it's close to you.

I do almost the same thing that Junior said. I jump hold a charge for a second just long enough for the sniper to aim at me in air and then instead of charing towards them I reflect and drop. about 60% of the time or better it works. and if it doesnt then I probably didnt get hit either so its okay :) I find this works more often than not, but again like everyone has already said you cant just spam this technique. You can ONLY use it when you absolutely need it. LIke if you have the flag and your running back to your base and a sniper is hitting you from afar and your in an open field.

After someone shoots two shots at me, then I know my enemy.

okay, I'm a sniper...I don't know why I'm willing to give away my secrets but why not. To reflect shots, even not in your OWN server...yeah it can be done. I've had a few guys own me constantly until I figured out what I was doing wrong. To reflect a sniper shot just learn the player's timing. Most players will pull the trigger as soon as they can trying to get the most shots off while battling. Its as simple as that. its one of those things you kind of have to feel. You know when they are going to shoot. and if you're in a laggy server might wanna pull L a little before.

Reflecting snipers is easy enough, that being said practise does a lot. I still dont see why people who prefer melee cant use melee all tehy want and not be a melee whore, the game was designed to be balanced regardless of what strategy you adopt.

lol i did write the book on reflecting snipers didn't I. Forgot all about this. Over time I know plenty more tricks but I will not share them because they are trade secretes.[face_wink]
