If you know what's good for you, you'll read the entire post.
If you don't wanna read the entire post, I've put the essential information right up front:
------------ ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ----------
You register for the tournament by emailing me.
MY EMAIL: augy.stclair@comcast.net
MY GAMERTAG: theaugy
Subject: Tournament Registration for <Gamertag> May 15
Body: Needs to include a couple things:
--- Your gamertag (yes, again)
--- Your teammate's gamertag. If you want a bot, put "Bot" here. If you don't have a team, put "no team" here.
--- Your Time Zone, and the time most convenient for you to play on Sunday the 15th.
--- Your internet connection (cable, DSL, T1, etc.) or upload speed, if you know it.
YOUR TEAMMATE ALSO NEEDS TO SUBMIT AN EMAIL! If you have questions, read "Team Registration"
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MAY 13TH, MIDNIGHT, PST
YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL early Saturday the 14th. It will tell you exactly who you'll play and when. For details, read "Tournament Structure." Everything else will be in the email I send you.
MATCHES WILL BEGIN THE EVENING OF SUNDAY THE 15TH. Exact times will be in your email, but expect them to begin anywhere from 3pm-6pm PST.
------------ END ESSENTIAL INFORMATION -------
FOR THE SPECIFICS, INCLUDING MAPS, EXACT MATCH RULES, STRUCTURE, ETC. KEEP READING
-------------- WHERE WILL YOU BE? ------------
For the duration of the tournament, I will be sitting in a neverending deathmatch session. If you have any problems or questions that you need me (God of the Tournament) to address, send me a FR, I will invite you into the game and we can talk there and get it sorted out. I will be rabidly checking my email as well, so if for whatever reason that's the only way you can reach me, that will do fine, too.
-------------- MATCH RULES ------------------
Game Type: Capture the Flag
Teams: 2 vs. 2
Mutators: None
Cap Limit: 3
Time Limit: 20
Require Ready: Yes
Note that "No Mutators" means that there will be no friendly fire damage, so get out yer shock rifles, kids.
------------- Tournament Structure ----------
- For the first tournament, matchups will be totally random.
- Single-elimination 2v2 CTF tournament.
- In future tournaments, your placement in this tournament will affect how your are matched with others.
- If you think you are 1337 and want to prove it, you have the option to play the match alone accompanied by a bot as your teammate, skill level "Novice." If you choose this option, you cannot decide to pick up a human teammate later. Your bot will be randomly selected--you cannot specify a model or weapon arrangement for your bot.
-NOTE: As SOON as all the registrations are in (Friday, May 13th at midnight, PST), I will create the brackets and email everybody with the following information:
1) The gamertag of your teamate
2) The gamertag(s) of your opponents
3) The time of your match in PST
4) The gamertag of who will host the match
5) The map you will play on
Note that the person who hosts may or may not be a participant in the match. Don't be surprised if it isn't--this is intentional. If you would be a good host, then email me (see "how you can help" at the bottom)
IF YOU ARE HOST, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEND A FR TO EACH PLAYER! This FR (friend request) must be sent at least 10 minutes before the start of the match. At around 5 minutes before the match is to start, the host must send an invite to each player who is to play. More details will be in the email.
------------- MAP LIST ----------------------
The Map List will be as follows:
Round 1: Sky Reach
Round 2: Tomb of the Emperors
Round 3: Downfall
Round 4: Chemical Dawn
Round 5: Octane
If we need more maps, the map list will start over (Round 6 is Sky Reach, etc.)
The maps are pre-decided to avoid any problems where two teams can't agree on a map.
You all know the maps now, so be prepared to play them.
The maps have been selected to test a wide range of abilities. You CAN, and you are encouraged, to switch weapons and character models between matches to fit the level you will be playing on.
------------- Team Registration -------------

YOUR TEAMMATE ALSO NEEDS TO SUBMIT AN EMAIL! This is so I can be sure both players know about the tournament.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TEAM, put "no team" and I will randomly pair you with another player who does not have a team.
-------------- WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE ARE NETWORK PROBLEMS/Game glitches? ----
Once the game has started, there is a 1 minute grace period that would allow anybody on either team to leave because there is a poor connection.
In the event that the host I have selected is not the optimal host, you may attempt to determine the best host amongst yourselves. If all the connections suck, you're gonna hafta live with it.
If you glitch within the 1 minute grace period, just leave the match and that will force a restart of the game. No need to notify me. If you think this rule is being abused, notify me.
If you've glitched once the grace period is over, then it is handled like this:
-If one of the players leaves after the grace period (to attempt to get out of a glitch), DO NOT STOP THE MATCH! Continue playing. The player who left may rejoin, and the match will continue on.
-If the host for whatever reason fails (after grace period, of course), forcing the end of the match, then the host team takes a loss. Unfortunately, there isn't any other way to handle this, so let's just hope this doesn't happen.
-If both players from a team leave after the grace period for whatever reason, it is considered conceding the match.
If you glitch after the grace period, your best bet is to leave the match and rejoin it.
-------------- HOW YOU CAN HELP -------------
There are 5 ways you can help:
1) If you have an internet connection with a high upload speed and would be willing to host games for other players, please either email me seperately or tell me in your registration email.
2) Post a link to this thread in other forums or copy/paste, whatever suits you.
3) If you have the knowledge necessary to create a website for this series of tournaments, email me and we'll see what we can do.
4) Think of something, then do it or tell me about it so I can do it.
5) If you can host this text document for me, please email me so I can create a FAQ version of it for you to post.
-------------- ABOUT ME ------------
I hope to make this a series of tournaments, with weekly updated leaderboards/rankings. I've been playing competitive games for a long time--I was a member of the Starcraft clan X17, I was in PGL San fransisco for Starcraft (there's a legitimate news article floating around the internet), and I've played quake3 and the UT series fairly competitively (though not on the professional level of Starcraft), however I haven't played a game I've liked so damn much as UC2, and I would love to see MLG pick it up, because it's a damn fine game and deserves a true competitive following. So what are you waiting for? Sign up!
