What are your favorite weapon combinations and why?
I'm a noob so my aim is pretty bad. I use the rocket/stinger or the flak/shockrifle combos. The combos cover a variety of distances and dont require the best aim (maybe besides the SR) to inflict damage.

I think that for FFA, experience will eventually prove to the community that nothing beats flak/snipe. Work on your snipe shot, and you'll find that there is not a single situation that these 2 guns don't cover as well as any other gun. Other combos have holes in their situational usefulness. E.G., Shock rifle sucks long range, and there is no explosive weapon capable of competing long range, save maybe the RL in very specialized maps and circumstances. Even the stinger beats the shock rifle long range. Or take the ripper, which to be effective requires forsight (and damn good forsight unless you're playing noobs that just jump in the same pattern) and precise aiming. The payoff for the ripper is big, it does enormous amounts of damage, but you'll find yourself neglecting melee and energy weapons because you need to run around with the secondary charged up to get the most out of the ripper, and if you fire off and miss with that charged up secondary, you'd better have a decent close-range energy weapon, because charging up the secondary again takes too long, and hitting with the primary is a tough thing to do.
1v1, the opportunities for creative use of the weaponry opens up considerably, so the answer isn't as straitforward there. But FFA, flak/snipe, I'm gonna say, is the best.

I'm going to have to agree with him, I've only gotten two headshots with the sniper but ninety percent of the time I hit with it and it has become my primary weapon. I keep the Flak Cannon primarily to lob grenades into the midst of enemy groups, though, for close range I'll melee unless I'm "lighter" than the enemy.

Well, glad to see somebody agrees ;)
However even in melee battles, the snipe/flak in most cases finishes off an attacker faster than they can kill you. Having played the game pretty obsessively since it came out, I'd venture to say that even if you're lauren and slazor (or however you spell his name) lands in front of you, you're better off with a flak cannon and some decent jumping than you are switching to melee (if you plan to stay and fight).
I'm not saying melee is underpowered at all, but I am saying that the amount of skill required to effectively utilize it is disproportionate to the results. Once you get past the novice level, players will scope their snipes and wait for you to parry and then pop your head off or blast some flak into you. In fact, if I don't have any energy ammo, I'll just wait for the melee attacker to get up to me and let them attack. Most characters will die with a point blank flak primary, and heavy ones I usually need to either heal or turn on speed to buy myself the time for the extra shot.
I was thinking of writing up a little guide on all the weapon combos and what they're good for. There are 16 of them, though. ;D

I personally like the Sniper rifle and Grenade Launcher combo. I have alot of experience banking grenades from the previous UC and sniping just comes in practice. But if you're 1on1ing someone I say the best weapon by far is the grenade launcher. Snipe someone then lure them into a room ready to bank grenades right on them for the kill.
But I love to shoot my sniper point-blank at meleers, it tears them apart. That and the homing ability with the grenadelauncher.

Do you guys scope with a sniper if they are at close or medium range? I think if you don't scope it fires three shots or something. Its hard to get a headshot even if you do scope. Also its a bit harder to follow quick enemies at close range when scoped, unless you have a fast look sensitivity. How many body shots does it take to kill someone with a scoped or unscoped sniper?

Two for mediums and lights, and three for heavies assuming none of them have extra health. At close to medium range I don't use the scope, it's view area is just too small and it slows down to much.

I line up the shot in third person, then I tap L and fire almost simultaneously. This basically accomplishes avoiding that pesky buckshot effect you get when you fire without a scope, and since typically i'm spinning as I'm about to fire, the shots gets spread out quite a bit.
Oh, and I've gotta say I love the 'nade launcher for 1v1 as well. I compliments a snipe perfectly. Whatever the snipe can't do, the GL can do.

I like to use the RL/Sniper Rifle. The Rocket Launcher is a great weapon. The Rocket Launcher is all about knowing your opponents. If I am going up against a Heavy I will turn on speed and load up 3. Against Mediums and Lights I will rapid fire 2. The only con I can see with the RL is reflect, which can get annoying.
The Sniper Rifle is a great addition to the RL. As the RL is to CQB, the SR is to long range attacks. Someone got the flag and is speeding away? Switch to SR and get him down. I love the SR.
Of course if I am playing a game where I know there are a couple of people who are really good with relfect, I will switch out my RL with a Flak. Those are fun too.

Honestly, Flak Cannon + Sniper Combo works the best. The Flak is unstoppable at close range and the sniper is great for long to medium range.
Rockets are out because the single rocket dosn't do eneough dammage and any good player will just reflect the 3 rocket burst, NTM that you end up hurting yourself alot. Making the rocket launcher the WORST wepaon in the game, no energy weapon can save it.
RipJack is decent, works best with the Shock Rifle single fire, the combo eats too much ammo. I'd use this if I were a Heavy Character.
Grenade Launcher is best combined with the Bio Rifle. I don't recomend this for Light or Heavy Characters.

Hmm, I've recently switched to grenade launcher and sniper. The grenade launcher is great for medium range and traps, the sniper is excellent at long and pretty good at medium and close, then I melee at close for coup de graces. I use saphire so the grenade launcher is really good for me with homing.

Only thing bad about GL is that its easy to reflect, and if someone has there sheild on it reflects it back to you.

I just can't see why anyone would use the GL, it is just so difficult to use. When it hits it is great, but it is just difficult to get the hang of. Really, I never focus on lang range combat. I carry Flak/Bio with me at all times. The Bio alt is used as a close combat one hit kill. If they are far away I reflect and dash over towards them.

You could say the same thing about the Bio, its all relative… practice.

no...the bio was easy to use
