I'm just posting this here because I don't see any strategies on Grenade Launchers and I think it would be great to have a topic on this. I'll just give a few tips and everyone else with tip can just reply also.
I've been using grenade launchers since Uc1 (assualt rifle), and I must say they are the most strategic weapon, in my opinion.
Tip1: Ok, there's the typical bank (hopefully spelled right lol) shots you can do. But, what is the best trick to do with these things is lure people into a trap. Say if you have a wide open field and a hallway with a corner leading out. Shoot your enemy or get his attention somehow in the open field, then just run for your life to the hallway and around the corner. If he follows you, you should be able to get some perfect bank shots off the side wall and around the corner.
This trick never failed me on 1on1s in UC and works quite well in UC2, even though people can move faster somewhat. But from my experience with grenade launchers in the UC series, I never play in an open field unless I must, because your grenades are just too dodgeable.
Tip2: When playing CTF, try throwing 4-6 mines on your flag while holding the left trigger. Then when one of those Light Weight characters try to steal your flag, they're toast. But, after about 30sec or so the grenades blow up by themselves, so you must keep collecting explosive ammo while doing this. It worked flawlessly for myself.
Tip3: Back to the bank shot( which is something that should be practiced alot). For example you just grabbed your enemy's flag and now you have someone right behind you chasing you down. If you're lucky and are coming up on a wall infront of you, try shooting a grenade infront of you and bank it off the wall and hit the person behind you. This worked a ton of times when I want to be tricky, but you must not shoot yourself, it can be tough to pull off.
Tip4: Don't be afraid to shoot too many grenades. That's what's good about the grenade launcher, the more you shoot the better your chances are of hitting the opponent and harder for him/her to kill you. Turn the entire ground into a grenadefield.
Tip5: If you like Malcolm, try using his Homing ability while shooting grenades.
Everyone please post any more tips they might have with the grenade launcher.

Another little trick is on maps that have cliffs and bridges, corner someone by laying mine field and then air burst one above the field. They'll either take alot of damage or get tossed of the cliff or bridge. Love grenade+homing.

Thanks for the tips, I plan on using the grenade launcher as my primary explosive weapon, just so I can throw people off. I use the BioRifle as my primary weapon at the moment, I hardly ever use my explosive weapon. I'm good at rocket and flak, but I find I love throwing out poison clouds non-stop. Hopefully a Bio/Grenade/Mine Combo can work and shake things up.

When I use the grenade launcher, I normally use variants on the alternate fire.
The regular alternate fire is a sticky grenade. Nice for laying traps and it can directly kill your opponents too, although it takes 20s to explode, and by then they're often dead by some other means anyway.
But better is to fire the alternate fire (L-trigger)but HOLD IT DOWN. When the grenade is near your target, hit the regular fire (R-trigger) and the grenade will explode, even if in mid-air.
Of course, you can do the running grenade dump as usual just with regular fire. I find the regular fire is really only useful though when two opponents are fighting each other - just to lob a grenade in the middle because they won't be looking for it.

Here's a tip: learn to hit directly with the grenades.
A 'nade primary does more damage than a rocket. If you think of grenades as fast-moving rockets, you'd be surprised how easy it is to hit directly with them, and because of their size and speed, they're more difficult to deflect than rockets. And because they bounce, if you accidentally shoot too far down, they'll bounce on towards your oppponent.
As for blowing up secondary shots in mid-air with primary: The amount of damage done by those exploded shots, unless you're damn close to a direct hit, is pithy. Your time is better spent going for a direct hit with strait up primary shots (unless of course, they're close to death and you don't want to risk a rejection).
Lastly, it's a good idea to chuck a couple of secondary shots at a mega-health or a udamage before it spawns. It takes exactly 20 seconds for a secondary to explode, so toss them there a little before the UDamage spawns, and you don't have to baby them at all.

I agree, hitting your target with a grenade does mega damage ( like 2-3 hits for a medium). Just try to time the grenade where your target is going to be.
Also, I don't know how many times have I had a person following me in a deathmatch going towards an elevator. I usually go up the elevator and set 3-4 grenade mines real quick at the exit on the above floor, then when he comes up.. Boom! he's dead. I've been called cheap numerous times for this tactic lol.
When playing a Team Deathmatch or CTF, and you see your ally getting attacked by a bunch of meleers. Try tossing a few grenades at your ally, so the explosion hits his enemies and kills them. I normally find TDM as hardly a challenge now because it's such a good tactic against so many meleeing people at the moment.

Air bursting is very good for pissing off spam reflectors. Being a sniper, spam reflecters piss me off, so I do my best to return the favor. The air burst is also very good for finishing off someone trying to run away.

Blowing up a mine while it's still in the air.

How about what I like to call the airstrike? Jump above them and lay down mines, it's quite effective if you can get above them, and when running with the flag leave a trail of breadcru- I MEAN mines, yes, no innviting the enemy to kill you!

You can lay 8 mines at a time before they all explode. 8 mines can kill even a heavy character.
After you've layed mines you can manually detonate them by switching weapons. In some situations this works better than the normal way.

I know the mines have a 20 second timer on them before they blow but do they have a proxi ability? it seems whenever I set mines people just run over them and they never blow. or do you have to set mines and then manually detonate them. if so thats a pain ive done it very rarely. I mostly use the nades for homing mixed with u damage. in big games its an easy 6-10 kills.

Mines are not proxy, you must detonatethem manually or wait for them to blow by themselves.

An easy way to blow up your nade mines is to switch weapons. That'll detonate them immediately.

Keep the tips coming! IM starting to love the gl!
I see a lot of people lay like 4-8 mines on the flag all right in one single spot, but I would think that makes it harder to hit because you are confined to a small area and if they charge across the flag yourlikely to miss them. Where as I personally devide the mines all over spread around the flag so it covers a larger area. (Unless Im playing juggys' in which case I try to narrow the space down to keep it strong enough to kill him.
What are others opinions? Do you all prefer hiding the mines in one single spot on the flag thats hardly noticable or devide them to cover a larger area around the flag?
Once my opponent catchs on that they are going to die if they step on the flag, and they start shooting it before they go over it, I lay the mines and load another weapon like my bio rifle and I go gook them while they are focused on shooting the mines :)

Do you have to lock on to someone to make the gernades bounce towards them?

Wow no one likes to post advice on the strategy guide forum eh? Perhaps people are afraid and not confident in themselves? Be more confident your advice IS GOOD and IS WANTED. People wont make fun of you for stupid advice. Hmm that wasnt worded right! [face_grin]
Anyways answer to my last post was no. The suggestion about thinking of Gernades as Rockets has helped me some what.

MY TIPS FOR THE GL:
FIRST PERSON <--- so much better for bankshots and VERY easy to aim the primary into opponents.
GRENADE SECONDARY <--- most people cant shoot for sh*t so if you throw on warrior spirit or just lay a few around the opponent, its not hard to land these shots right on them and explode right in their faces. works like CAKE on lights.

I can't tell you how much that think of them as rockets thing helped me. I was always trying to be trickey and bounce them around but when I started shooting them like a rocket it just clicked and I like the GL a lot more now.
Thanks
