Why did Ureal get such a "nerd" reputation?

Now Im not flaming here or anything like that. I love Unreal almost as much As I like halo but all around I hear that is a "geek game".

Now we all have our sterotypes like "fanboys,geeks,nerds ect" who play alot of video game but why just this game?

It's new to me. Everyone I know loves Unreal.

Nope, new for me as well.
I just heard people say that Quake is a lot better, the usual stuff, but that's just a matter of preference in the end.
I also actually heard people complain about the bright colours (I loved seeing some colour after all those grey/brown Quake screenshots), so again, a matter of preference.
Of course there isn't just 1 gaming community, or just 1 FPS community, or anything else for that matters, so you're bound to find different classifications in some places.
