For those of you who keep up with me,you know that I'm doing these guides to help everyone out. Im doing my best to master all of the weapons then reporting my findings here. I will be doing Gernade Launcher next!

~~The Bio Rifle~~

History of the Bio Rifle
Ahhh the bio rifle. Loved by some, hated by most. Its a very impressive weapon in the right hands, and its garbage in the wrong hands. Its been in since UT 99,and its been one of my favorite weapons ever since!

What are its functions?
The Bio Rifle has a total of 3 functions:

1.Primary fire(right trigger)- Blob Shot,Shoots out a small blob which chases nearby enemies.

2. Alternate Fire (left trigger)-Big Blob, charges up and shoots out a very large and powerful blob to chase after nearby enemies.

3. Speical(Fully charge it by holding down the left trigger, and press right trigger. relase left trigger to make it form a gas cloud!) Gas Cloud, the blob blows up into a gas cloud, which gives enemies the Posioned Status.

What the Bio Rifle is used for,and how to use its functions

The Bio Rifle is under the Trap section of the weapon chart. In my opnion its fully built for trapping, which makes it the best trapping weapon in the game. Thats my opinion though. I've used it since UT 99,and I do in UC2.

However, now that the blobs chase after your enemies,it shoots MUCH slower. And I mean MUCH slower.

Using the Bio Rifle:

The Bio Rifle primary fire should ONLY be used to weaken and trap and enemy. In case you haven't noticed, the small blobs to very little damage. So spamming its primary is going to get you nowhere, so foucus on one guy and trap him. Once he's/she's trapped, pull out your other gun and finish him/her off.BEWARE that the little blobs chase whats closet to them. And yes, your own blobs can hurt you.

The Bio Alternate fire is perhaps the coolest feature. I personaly use it a lot,and it can be used in many ways. I always reccomed fully charging it! Once charged, you can do many things with it. One thing,is you now have a lobbing shotgun. When fully charged, you can run right up to someone and let go and it will act like a shotgun and pretty much instaly kill them. This is hard due to the areodynamics of UC2,so practice makes perfect. Another thing you can do is build up an army, and use the chraged blob as the lead trapper. After fully charging it,fire it,and fire a lot of little blobs as well. The little blobs will leach him off,and the biggest one should finish the job! Also, keep in mind that when the charged shot hits something, it blows up into little blobs! Or...you can turn it into a gas cloud...speaking of that..

The gas cloud is your best friend. It makes your enemies posioned, which means they are very slow and constinly loose health. So if you've got some jerk spamming the air charge melee,if he charges at you, shoot a gas cloud and jump. He'll/she'll run right into the gas cloud and get posioned. Finish them off. Don't forget to say "And thats what you get for spamming!" The gas cloud is best used on smaller maps,as you can gas up the whole map. Also, use this as a shield for your blob army!

Mastering the Bio Rifle
Unless you played UT 99 and used the Bio Rifle a lot,you might have some trouble. The Bio Rifle is an odd weapon to use at first, but as you go on you'll find its true power. The Bio Rifle requires a speical type of aiming called Trajectory. This means that you need to shoot a little higher than where your enemey stands, kinda like throwing a gernade in any other FPS's. However, you have to aim like that because the rifle lobs out the blobs instead of shooting them. Yes,it will take time and a lot of it. Practice on bots or other players. An expert Bio Rifle user never stops moving, and never stops shooting. Remeber that!

I've come up with some stratgies for SOME of the characters:

Gorge or Arclite(maybe Szalor): Use your body as a shield and run right up to them and blasted them with the alt. It should kill them, then just cast heal.

Brock or Lauren: Use vampire and make an army. Guess what? Everytime someone gets hit by your blob, you get health. Its like a minature moving life leeching army!

Selket: Cast flash, then blast em' or posion them. Simple and effective!

Devestation or Raptor: Pin them to the wall, switch to it,charge and fire. This takes practice, but makes a very satisfying kill. Also, its works very good with Devestation's head turrent, while their trying to dodge the shoots, just make an army!
(more to come)

Regarding the Biorifle…

A general rule of thumb… most people are familiar with using clouds and blobs to cut off terrain to deter their opponents escape. But it's also important to remember to not get TOO carried away with spamming clouds or blobs. Not many people are just going to happily walk into your traps, let alone stick around for the blobs to be useful UNLESS you bait or distract them. Use your explosive weapon and melee to maximize your damage and herd them into your trap. Dump about 4 to 8 blobs, anymore than that is usually a waste of time since the longer you spam the more you risk your opponent just abandoning the scene, which ruins the whole point of your trap.

Primary fire spamming:
I'm most situations it is best to position your blobs BEHIND your target, and force them to “fall back” into your trap with aggressive melee or your explosive weapon. Spamming behind them is more effective than spamming their front because front spam is blatantly obvious to your opponent. Furthermore opponents who understand the biorifle are going to use front spam against you by dashing past you, thus leaving you crossed-up whereby your blobs are running through and injuring YOU as they chase your opponent. Not good. However there are are couple circumstances where firing behind your opponent isn't ideal, so note key map areas and watch how your opponent behaves when they evade you and spam your blobs accordingly.

Charged Blobs:
It is good habit to always hold your LT trigger throughout the flight of your charged blob regardless of your intents on hitting them with cloud or charged blob. Why? Because if you miss or they evade your charged shot you can still turn it into a poison cloud and chip away some damage.

A couple of little things:
If you hold a charge shot and become frozen, you character will automatically release their charged blob. So you can use this as a moderate repellant against melee finishers and CDG. This also works with charged Ripjack shots.

Also, like in all incarnations of Unreal, you can shoot your blobs straight down and they won’t hurt you so long as you keep moving. This can be useful in discouraging scavengers.

Most know Skaarj are immune to the cloud. As a Skaarj you can use this advantage to set up wall cloud traps. An example might be you backing your opponent into a corner with explosives or speed and then releasing a cloud near the wall, thus "sandwiching" them with pressure to endure the entire effect of the cloud.

Also I think it's important to state that the Biorifle is strictly a close ranged weapon (except for maybe poison clouds, and the occasional charged potshot into a crowd.) As a close ranged gun it makes for an excellent supplement to players who lean predominately towards melee, and as such it is best suited for more "hearty" characters, or at least characters you feel comfortable in melee with.

Biorifle Damage:
I broke down the Biorifle damage a few weeks back. Here’s some of that data…

Primary blobs do around 18% damage, that’s about the equivalent of a light character’s L1 attack. For some perspective that’s: 5hits to kill a Light Class, 8hits to kill a Medium Class, and 12hits to kill a Heavy Class.

You don’t need a fully charged shot to kill opponents. So can kill characters with partially charged shots INCLUDING Heavy’s. For the precise amount you need to charge go into first-person view and look at the green thermometer-like bar above the canister launcher, when it reaches about halfway you can release your blob for an instant kill.

Fully charged shot do around 220% damage, but fully charged shots do SIGNIFICANTLY less damage once it touches the ground, around 80% to 85% damage.

Poison Cloud does about 5% damage for every “tick” (an instant when it inflicts damage). So if an opponent only grazes your poison cloud they’ll only suffer around 25% to 30% damage. But the longer they reside within the cloud the more rapid the damage accumulates and the quicker they die. I also partially tested if character get slowed down by the poison cloud, and from all that I’ve tested the poison cloud does NOT impair your opponent’s speed what so ever.

Hopefully this helps some aspiring Biorifle players.

ra1n: There are 2 kinds of poison. You probably have the bio-cloud poison mixed up with the Skaarj pistol secondary fire. The Skaarj poison does slow you down significantly by roughly 30%. But the Biorifle poison does not slow you down...

And just for a benefit of a doubt, I went back to my old bio-cloud data and cross checked it; thoroughly testing the Bio-cloud on all of the characters. NON of them were slowed down by the poison cloud at all. Boot up a game and see for yourself.

actually i think that the primary fire i usefule because it distracts the enemy so then you can go in for the kill
