Well, this is mainly a question aimed towards the developers.
I was just wondering what they think of some of the more popular "issues" UT players have with new UT versions.
For example, I noticed that allot if UT99 player feel left out by games such as UT2003/2004, because of the changes that were made.
What are your toughts on some of these statements?
A thing that personaly bugs me is the "dying out" of certain gametypes like BR (my favourite gametype) and DOM. What will be done to "solve" this in future releases?

Can't speak for EPIC, but i remember CliffyB saying that one problem of UT2004 was too many gametypes. So some of the gameytypes MUST have very little player numbers.

"I noticed that allot if UT99 player feel left out by games such as UT2003/2004, because of the changes that were made."

That's just silly.
You can't expect anyone to keep updating an old game and keep adding every new feature the latest game has.
If anybody would do that, why even create the new game in the first place?
Also developers need to earn money to be able to continue to make new games, and they won't if they just keep updating their old games to do what the newest games can.
Finally some changes between generations are way too big to add with a mere patch, so... if people feel left out, they're just being unrealistic.

Epic has already commented on the old gametypes, saying they want to evolve them some more in order to make them more playable.
See one of the very latest interviews for an example of them mention they have some new ideas on Onslaught, although there are no real details on what those ideas might be.
With UT2004's ONS they say it's too hard to get back in business if you're getting behind, making the game more of a one way deal.

It has happened in the past, in Assault the Shield Gun doesn't do a whole lot for jumping anymore because people abused it, Domination turned into Double Domination, Bombing Run put a limit on Translocator use, Invasion turned into Nali Slaugher (or perhaps it's completely different, I don't really know), and there are more examples.

I agree, it would be a shame if DOM and BR died out, but I don't think Epic will let that happen.
If any game types get scrapped, I'd gues they'd scrap something like Mutant first, because unless I'm mistaken that's not particularly popular.
Personally I think Last Man Standing is a bit boring, and perhaps Epic thinks so as well, considering UC2 has it replaced with something similar, but different.
I think from the original Unreal... I never played that multiplayer, and I just can't think of the name for the game type right now...
Anyway, I guess stuff like that gets erased before the bigger ones.
Also we'll probably see official mutators get removed before entire gametypes.

Those are my thoughts anyway...

Yeah, I seriously hope they don't take out BR and DOM... but then again if such a low number keeps playing them they should really pull of something pretty radical to make them populair again.

And, does anyone know why they made Double DOM instead of DOM. I think it's a shame, I like Classic DOM much more.

Well Im sure many can agree they find it odd that Epic have showned a clear pattern of removing some of the most popular features in their more recent games...

Could als ask the question. Why remove the feature that made that first game popular in the first place its say the least counter productive...

If anything Epic should trim away unwanted gamemodes weapons etc first in their current trend they trim away the most liked parts of the game first...

Well we told Epic back in the Demo days of Ons on Torlan, that the gametype got completly loopsided and boring once the primary node went down and theres plenty of other Ons maps thta suffers the same fate...

Well, they have a year or two to sort out the bad and bring back the new. They can maybe go another game sorting it all out. Its quite hard thinking of Unreal Gametypes.

one big difference I found between ut 99 and the 2k series is that the tone of the game was changed. 2k seemed more like a futuristic sport and 99 seemed more dark, violent and quake-ish in demeanor

I personally like the newer take on the series but many fans of the original like the former one.

Could be because UT2K3 stopped being Unreal and became Quake3 instead...

yeah it was a weird trade off where the gameplay changed to be like quake , but the atmosphere changed to be like...pro- wrestling, or like Smash TV if anyone remembers that one lol

i installed quake 3 again,i found it clunky and too simple compared to ut2004, the weopens lacked life in quake. i feel the weopons have a life and personality in ut2004, they all have a use.

Another thing I have been hearing is that the big majority of servers in UT200X is "overmutated".
Wich, ironicly backfires to the strong mod community UT has.

I think this is sadly the truth, and I tend to get very annoyed with another 20mutator featuring autofireinstagib-with200%gamespeed-along-with-some-random-crap
server...
