Creating custom meshes and skins on the Xbox would be almost impossible, and very, very, VERY time consuming if somebody with the right skills would accomplish that if somebody with even more skills could make a programme for content creation.
The same goes for animations and moves, meaning the only thing that would happen is select from a set of adrenaline moves and character names.
In other words, you'd still see almost identical characters, only they'll have adrenaline moves that complement eachother too well, which would create a very unfair game.

I'm not saying it's not possible to create such a game, RPGs do it, you'd just need to think about it right from the start, right there in the design specs.
Although you're in the general forum, I suspect you got lost and meant to be posting in the UC2 forum.
UC2 however is pretty much done.
Maybe in a future Unreal game we'll see something like that.
Actually I'm certain that's where the general games market will be heading, but it'll take time...

You know your stuff, but how do they do it with Tony Hawk and other games like that?

Yes and WWE games then i can creat a char :s not a big char creating gen only like 5 heads 10 bodys 10 legs.
For eatch race. whery easy and maybe a moth more time for the relese

Its because most creating character programs are very basic and they usually don't look very good

"whery easy and maybe a moth more time for the relese"

I've spent a lot of time looking up a quote by a developer, but it seems the Search cuts off after a few weeks or so, and the Help doesn't even mention the Search feature.

Anyway, if I remember correctly, basically it was the dev requesting people not to ask for any features saying "they are easy and will only take a little time", since the game is practically done.
That's exactly what you just did... which is funny... or it would be if I could just supply a direct link to the actual post. :(

I definately agree with this. Character creation would be awesome. I wonder why Epic has never thought of this?

They use different models for feet, torso, head, etc...
What you see in game actually is a combination of different bodyparts and textures.

omfg, character creation ITS NOT simple, its very very very hard, and it needs a programm like 3d studio or maya which costs 18.000 dollars, do you all really think about posting? im learning about modeling in 3d studio and i know how this works, probably they can make a map editor but they cant add Maya or 3d studio in the game, they wouldnt be allowed, you all think Epic didnt think about this? of course they did, but its not possible.

DoM, first of all, like you probably read from my posts already, I agree with you, and it's a fact you are completely right, however...

Soon they mentioned other games where it works something like this:
Select 1 of 3 body types ranging from thin to corpulent.
Select a head from a few different types, select a hairdo, select clothing colour, bla, bla.
It is possible to do something like that, and make it so the players "creating" the "new" and "unique" character don't know a single thing about 3D meshes.
Of course this would limit the designs, but on the other hand the characters would be specifically tailored to the individual player... again as far as the selecting process allows.
Anyway, we'll see more of this in bunch of years when we'll have faster computers with more memory I suspect, not just yet.

Oh, in short: try to be a bit nicer to the other people please. :)

what about gmax it hasnt got all the features of 3ds
but its free (doesnt do rendering IIRC, not applicable
in this case) Maya LE is free also but i think it has
a few restrictions and lastly Blender which is free
but other than that i have no idea.

custom characters would be an interesting addition to the game but it seems to me it would be difficult to figure what kind of level of customization would be necessary and i think the second guy is right in a sence cuz it would be kind a joke and time consuming maybe it will be a feature in the content dl.

Custom Characters are really hard to pull off. We might see that in the next gen consoles like the xbox2 becuase of its "marketplace" feature. But creating a custom character like a built in feature would be really hard. If you've every tried 3d modeling you know what i'm talking about.

if they did this they would need to rework how each characher is skinned and such, it adds many levels of complexity and then it realy comes down to space, load time and cpu. if they had a custumisable character they would need to cut the model selection down to make the space, also an entering player would have more veryables and add server stress, now a player would have head, body, headtex, and body tex to load and inform all conected clients of the new characters settings to load. slower comps would suffer greatly from this. you would need to cut player complexity to make it easyer on them and it would look bad

im modeler, and i can tell you how hard is the creation of a completly new character.
there is the possibility of diferent costumes though, like in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for example, where theres diferen costumes for every character, and also diferent body parts, but all already done by the devs.

Skin textures arnt the hardest thing to load on a server.
But you make a custom 3d mesh, with its complex animations and body mesh. You have to run that through the servers and such thats tough as it is. Thats why most games have premade character and everyone has that on there comp/xbox. Only thing that has to load is that character thats already registered.
Dom/ What prog. do you use?

i use Maya and 3d studio, 3d studio mostly.
im a n00b with Maya :P
well, i also make terrains for maps and that all stuff.

i combine AutoCAD a lot with 3d studio. AutoCAD for draw obviously.

I use 3d Max, but i had to recently unistall it. I need to get my own computer. I never tried AutoCAD tho. I heard it was good tho.
