Hi EPIC, Hi everybody !
In the matter of fact, Microsoft just achieved Gold status for the Windows 64 bit edition (will be released to customers end of April), I wanted to ask EPIC, if there will be a patch for UT2004 to make it run in 64 bit mode !?
AFAIK, Mark "two weeks" Rein mentioned in UT2003 times, that there is a patch in their drawer for UT2003.
As soon as Win 64 is available, they wanted to release this patch to make UT2003 run in 64 bit mode.
Unforunately, Win64 was not released these days...
Is this patch mentioned above converted to UT2004 ? Is there another (64 bit) version of UT2004 to come ?
Or is 64 Bit offered only with Unreal Engine 3 ?
Please answer !!!

afaik ut2k4 already uses 64 bit on linux doesn't it?
note: i could be wrong here i'm just asking :)
maybe i'm confusing linux uses 64 bit and ut uses 64 bit. i read an articel on linux running ut2k4 and it said something about 64 bit but i don't know what that was connected to so...

I am not interested in Linux (64), only in Windows.
I think its the same for the majority of all other Users of UT2004. Therefore, I am especially asking for UT2004 64 bit on Windows 64 Bit !!!
No flame, Linux is good, but not interesting for me.

hey np - i was just interested in it ;)
after all the problem still remains that most games support windows but mac and linux come last...
ut2k4 is indeed one of few games i know that came out for windows and linux at the same time - in this case even on the same disc(s)
EDIT: i've read the article about ut2k4 on linux again and it says that you can choose a 64bit executable for linux

Windows...phew. All I get with Windows is spyware and spyware and even more spyware(And Ive been using Opera and Firefox/Mozilla only the last three years).
All I really need to use Windows for is to either play games I cant get to run properly under Linux(which is now becoming very few), or use Unrealed(which will work with cedega/wine with UnrealEngine 3).
I really dont understand why people pay a ****load of bucks for software you can get for free and is sometimes even better, like MS Office vs OpenOffice.
To answer the threadstarters question, there is most likely no noticable difference between the 32-bit and 64-bit version since UT2004 doesnt exactly use that much memory.

Actually Olav, you won't even need Wine/Cedega for Ued when UE3 comes around, as they are/did recode it to use wxWidgets, and it will have a native Linux version.

That's really good to hear, Epic is really nice to us Unix users :)
I just hope the Linux/Unix version doesn't have a weaker OpenGL renderer compared to the D3D version like in UT2004. It may be faster but is missing lots of extras.

Well, Im guessing it will be up to snuff. Although, Icculus mentioned in one of his older .plan entries about UE3, that he is having alot of "fun" with the newer technical (3D API) stuff, Ill quote him
"UnrealEngine3:
One thing I'm learning by fighting with a different project that has nothing
to do with UE3: modern 3D graphic APIs are really friggin intimidating.
I'm really growing to hate both DirectX 9 and OpenGL 2.0, which is
unfortunate considering there isn't really any part of UE3's renderer that
doesn't concern itself with DX9-level tech. This makes me grumpy. I feel like
the Unix equivalent of those two old dudes in the balcony on the Muppet Show."
I love that last line though, just something I have to laugh at.

Olav, i have Windows XP and i never get spywares...
UT2004 doesnt run in 64 bit actually.

Dominator, the 64bit binary for Linux does exist, and has some improvments, but its more in the area of loading maps and whatnot. Framerate I guess doesn't really get a boost, or any thing else, but it can load a bit faster.

Dominator thats exactly why I dont belive you, unless you run virus scanners and antispyware that eats a huge chunk of memory and cpu threads(If I said it right)

Olay, although Virus and spyware scanners / monitors help, actually they're not the most important weapon against that kind of crap.
You being careful about what you download / click on /do, is.
Although I now have scanners / monitors installed, I went on for years without any, and I never had any problems.
After I installed those scanners I didn't get any alerts either, but I did get a little overconfident and downloaded an executable with what I thought would be a nice program.
Rightaway I got tons of programmes downloaded and installed, and within a minute I had pop-ups and junk all over the place.
So much for relying on scanners.
My point being, although I can't speak for DoM or anyone else, you shouldn't just disbelieve what he said.
Then again you have no reason to believe anything I wrote either I suppose. :)

Well I didnt say that he did have spyware, its just that I find it hard to belive after my experience. About everyone I know who runs Windows have some kind of a background process that they have no idea of.
I though my pc were clean for a while, until I decided to do some boring work killing useless program that ran in the background. I was really suprised what I found.
The only way to be sure is to know exactly what every process running actually does.
Its really sad that I have to spend a ****load of money just get rid of those things. I even have to spend money and system resources to protect my system.

hmmm, seems, this thread goes offtopic now.
Pity, Epic is not replying to my initial question...
