Geared Up
Characters and Prologue
Main characters
John Howard: A 19yr old male who has been a gear since the beginning of the war. On emergence day his father, Brock, was killed by locust and his mother sacrificed herself to save him. Now he wants revenge.
Mike Gregory: An 18yr old male who became a gear after witnessing the destruction of his home town. He was transferred to a military base to become a gear for the last of the Cog forces. He always listens to orders.
Scott McKinney: A 20yr old male who has been a Gear since he was 17. He fought on Emergence day and saw his whole squad slaughtered by endless amounts of Locust. He survived but with a nasty scar across his upper arm from a bullet that pierced his friend's heart.
Stewart Westward: A 21yr old male who become a Gear one day before emergence day. On that day he was assigned to defend the city Metropolis but when he got there he saw his dad on the battlefield...without his arm and half his head.
Bruce Bollard: A 20yr old male who lived with his Aunt and Uncle his whole life. Put in jail after he killed them nobody knows his past life. He broke out of jail on Emergence day and slaughtered 2 Locust with his bare hands. After that the Cog recruited him to join the military.
Now here's what's been happening. On emergence day 5 billion of 6 billion people were killed along with 3 billion Locusts. Now the 5 people listed above are all on the same squad called Squad 1st Knight. They have the best record of any battlefield squad in history and all the people are still alive (after 12 battles) except one, Dan Newman, who was killed in the 3rd battle of Metropolis. Now 1st Knight is just outside Metropolis cleaning up the last of the survivors when suddenly they get a call and... Well, I'll just let you read the story.
Chapter 1: One way Road, 3 ways Death
Scott McKinney walked over to a barely living Locust and smashed its head into the ground. Scott was ripped (like all of 1st Knight) and 6'2" and had short blonde hair that was kind of spiky. He was pretty laid-back and always calm, and took his job seriously. "Hey, Mike, come over here," said Scott. Mike walked over. Mike Gregory was 6'3" brown haired guy who is the Captain of 1st Knight. He always had people be with someone else at all times. "What?" he asked. "See those explosions and lights?" said Scott,"There's a battle going on over there, and it's a big one. Call HQ and ask for Evac. We need some ammo and water before we can go. After that we can reinforce them." "Alright," commanded Mike, "Stewart, call HQ and get Evac now." Stewart Westward, a black haired man with a goatee, picked up his radio and called for Evac. "That's a negative 1st Knight. We need you in the battle right now. We are taking heavy casualties. Head over there until we can get reinforcements on the field, then you can get some R&R." "Roger that, moving out," said Stewart. John walked up them. John was a black African American man who was bald and stronger than everyone else there except Bruce. He liked to joke and had a very deep voice but this wasn't the time to joke. "So we have to walk across the road to the field?" he asked. "Pretty much, stay close to the road in case someone is driving to the field. Maybe we could get a ride," exclaimed Mike. "We should start walking cause it'll take 40 min to walk that far," said Scott, "C'mon Bruce, let's go!" Bruce was a tall bald man with no hair on his head, not even eyebrows. He was quiet and did what he was told without question. He was the strongest of them all and never wore sleeves. Bruce walked over to Scott and the others. Scott was the closest thing Bruce had to a family, or friend for that matter. He was the only person he would talk to. All these men together made up the 1st Knight squad and they began their long walk down the road.
Chapter 2: Battle of Fort Jenoa
After 45min of walking and the battle that took place outside Metropolis 1st Knight squad was so tired they could hardly move. But once that first bullet went past them they awoke immediately. The battlefield of Fort Jenoa was basically just a couple concrete walls, cars, pipes, and small shacks soliders slept in. 1st Knight took out their Lancers and took cover. Nothing was happening...yet. Suddenly from behind a wall 4 Locust popped out. Scott fired some rounds and the rest quickly after. Rat-a-tat-tat-tat, boom. Dust filled the air. The Locust fired back, bullets richocetting off walls. "Cover me!" yelled John. Scott and Mike fired while John dashed across the street and behind a car. Scott screamed, "Reloading!" Bruce went to the left and shot. Bullets flew around the battlefield and Locust shot back. Dust flew up again and, taking this t his advantage, Scott shot the **** out of a standing Locust. John and Mike fired at the concrete walls, chips of it flying everywhere. "Frag out!" yelled Stewart. He hurled the grenade beside the wall. Boom! Parts of Locust flew everywhere. "Nice work," said Mike. "You spoke too soon," said Stewart. "Locust, 1 o'clock," yelled Scott. John jumped over his cover, darted across the field, and slammed into a small wall. Scott did the same with Mike close behind. The locust came from the ground, 12 Drones and 2 Berserkers. "Great! Just Great!" complained Stewart. Scott said," I got the Berserker on the right!" and quickly fired. Others fired too. Bullets bouncing off armor, piercing skin, and blood flew everywhere. Dust and debris crackeled off walls and sounds of screams and gunfire filled the air. Bullets hit Johns armor and didn't pierce but got stuck in it. Bruce reved up his chainsaw, ready to pounce on a Locust. Stewart shot down a drone and blood flew everywhere. Scott nailed one in the heart and John mopped up the last 2. The bullets stopped and 1st Knight reloaded. "Hey, where's the Berserkers?" asked Stewart. Suddenly a Berserker burst out of a wall roaring. Scott fired 3 shots at it but then ran out of ammo. Now he wished he reloaded. John shot at its head and blood poured downon stewart who was right below the thing. But then the Berserker stopped and its stomach blew up in a bloody rush with a chainsaw through it. It fell over and when it did you saw Bruce was on the other side, soaked in blood, dripping with blood. It was all over his face and body. "Wow," said Mike. Then a wall crumbled down to the right of John and the other Berserker appeared. John took no chance and starting gunning its stomach out. Scott , having now reloaded, started shooting at its gut too. Then Mike, Bruce, and Stewart began firing. The Berserker was being forced back and blood was going all over the place. It shot three bullets which got John in the arm, but he didn't even notice. Gallons of blood were on the ground and the Berserker was still standing. When they all run out of bullets to shoot they stopped and reloaded. The Berserker was still standing, but now there was a 4ft tall and wide gap in its guts the Berserker made one last groan and fell over. They all stood there for a moment pondering what just happened. 2 Drones were running away quietly. Scott heard one and told Mike. At the same time they turned around and both fired 3 rounds into the same one. The other went around a corner and... VRUUMM! Blood dripped on the ground and its head rolled out onto the street. Bruce came around the corner and said," Let's go back to base." Everyone was surprised he talked. Scott turned to Mike "Yeah, lets head back. The other squads can handle this." Mike shook his head. Together they walked back to the extraction point. On the way their Mike recived a call on his radio. 1st Knight Squad, are you there, over? Yes, what is it? We need you to come back to base a rest up. Tomorrow you are being sent out to West Island to stop a force of Locust who are planning an attack on the evacuee holding station. That or there attacking COG headquarters, over. Copy that, moving out. How of them are there and how many men are we taking, over? They have a force of 3 million Locust. You will be sent with 2 million, but we are going to bomb the Island first, over. Roger that, over and out. "Alright men, let's get back to base immediately, tomorrow's going to be a busy day." Said Mike.
