Im brand new to the whole "gears of war" game and the concept....I was blown away when I saw it and dont have been looking up info ever since.


I was wondering about the multiplayer versus mode online though.....


will it only be 4 vs. 4 or will there be any 2 vs. 2 and others?

wlecome, so far all we know is 4vs4 team deathmatch and 8 player deathmatch

ya so far all we know is 4v4 but it could maybe have 6v6 but anythign bigger than that doesnt fit what Gears is

Everything I've read says 4v4, but who knows maybe down the road with updates and such we'll have variations. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Cliffy and the EPIC crew can make the gameplay as such that you are absolutely forced to use cover and such, 8v8 would be great because the team with the best tactics would usually win and what's better then owning your opponent? Owning and out thinking your opponent. Otherwise 8v8 would not fit in the framework of what gears is meant to be.

6vs6 would be the absoulte max, and would be pretty fun breaking up into two squads of three

I wonder if this game is fast paced enough for a CTF. Though, it is a 1 life per round game, so CTF is probably out of the question.

Hopefully there's a mode with respawns, that's a console shooter staple IMO. I'd be surprised and a bit disappointed if Gears lacked a gametype with respawns. I'm a fan of the LMS gametype here and the round-based system, but I'd also like a gametype with respawns.

Hmm, maybe respawns for objectives and LMS for team deathmatch games? I say they just give us the options in customs for respawns and LMS, and maybe use LMS for ranked games or whatever.

I think the deaths should be based on what type of game we're playing. I don't mind even if I don't get to choose the options. I'd kind of like to keep GoW the way it was meant to be. Like when I played G.R.A.W. I wanted to play the one death thing. But it's almost impossible for me to find a game like that. I think it should all be one death, except for a ctf type game. Most of the other game types are basically attack and defend type stuff that you should only need 1 life for.

i think you guys are getting yourselves mixed up. the game has up to 8 players. you can do 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, etc.

No, they had 8vs8 also on system link.

There has been no Free For All 8 player Death Match yet.

be good if attac and defend the attackers had unlimted spawns but defenders on had 1 or 2.

Personally, I think 4v4 is good enough don't you? Whatever game modes they bring out, it's going to rock because it won't be overcrowded. I love games of GRAW where there is 4v4 because you can be tactical and you've got space to move and flank. More than that and you lose more of the tactical edge and more of the "quickest shot" edge comes in - and I don't want to see that.

As Outlaw rightly said, a DEFEND gametype would be good where the attackers keep coming to get you and you've got to hold for a certain amount of time. You could call it something like EXTRACTION ZONE mode or something...

I don't really want 2v2, i think 4v4 is enough, and if you and your pal want to play together then you can play co-op

4vs4 deathmatch, and tdm would be fine
however if thats all then the games multiplayer could turn out to be a dull slugfest. (not that slugfests are a bad thing:) ) What I would like to see is some sort of assault gametype..
i.e. one group of four is defending objectives while the other group of four attacks and works their way down the list of objectives to the goal.. such as blowing up a train like on unreal tournament..... :D
if multiplayer gets creative with the 4vs4 why not huhhhhh

I think i agree with you vanilla, it would get dull with dm and tdm, maybe if one team defends a weapon cache while the other defends it? or maybe a conquest mode if there want to have 8v8 or more?

Maybe we could also have an objective mode where the teams are combined and must complete objectives during on onslaught of enemies.

in many interviews, it has been said that the only modes confirmed are team deathmatch and deathmatch, if its 8 player max, then yea 8 player deathmatch has been announced

In past interviews (I can't find a link because he said this a while ago, so you guys will have to trust me on this one), Cliffy B. said that Epic would shoot for at least 16 players per game.

Whether Epic has changed their minds between then and now, I don't know.

Just make the whole multiplayer online exactly like how Halo 2 does it. Just with Gears of War. I haven't found any 360 game that has better online MP.

Halo 2 and it's multiplayer online set-up changed online gameplay forever. That is the new standard for online games. I would be very happy if Gears just used that set-up.

From what people have said about the game from E3 it is definately fast paced enough since the levels are going to be mostly smaller.

now if there was CTF, should they have it so you could fire your weapon while holding the flag, or where you are defenseless and therefore MUST use cover and roadie running? i would like to see it happen either way

They could do it like socom and make the respawns gametype unranked.
