I was just wondering how strong the language is going to be in this game? Before you flame me, read the post. I know it's really violent. Some people don't have a problem with it (me included) if it's in a sci-fi setting and it's not directed towards other human beings. They just don't care for hearing "f**k" every other word like in Riddick, GTA, Far Cry, Prey, and so on. If Gears of War is on that level, can there be a language filter included like the one in UT2004?

I don't know the answer to that question, and I hope it's not excessive...

I don't mind, but the Cursing does have a sense of Realism since it's war and it can mess with people and it can bring the worst out of them.

Indeed...

War though, is war.

This is a video game.

And video games sometime mirror Reality, correct?

Of course....sure.

Hey, why do you always spell reality with a capital 'R'? Just curious....

Anyway, I don't mean to be confrontational... it's just war IS WAR. I mean Gears is no doubt gonna stand out as one hell of a video game, but I'm not gonna be turning to it if I wanted to understand the plight of the Tutsi population in Rwanda during 1994. Know what I'm saying?

As for swearing... I was under the impression it's an adult rated game with things being chainsawed and curbstomped. Doesn't that render the whole 'question' of Marcus using naughty words utterly mute?

Maybe I just have weird views. I also reckon we might be treading stormy waters if we continue down this particular route.... interesting as it may be. To that end, I aint gonna post anymore of my views on this 'issue'.

I was in the military (long ago) and I have to tell ya we swore up and down all the time. If games are about realism, then Marcus’ mom would run out of soap pretty quick washing that dirty mouth. I wonder, would Marcus even have a mom?

I see what you're saying now. As for the "R" thing, I usually do that because when I'm either talking about something specifically or if it's a "thing" I capitalize the first letter as I'm addressing it as a Person. To be honest, I don't know why; just a habit I guess, since I know that it isn't correct English, which as you can see I try my best to talk as Grammatically Correct as I can.

*EDIT: Sorry, that kinda turned into a Rant :o.

I was also in the military... and it's very different to Gears of War.

No probs at all... in fact, looking back, it's probably my fault.

None of this matters dude.... Gears is gonna be a great fantasy experience that sucks you into another world and damn well holds you there :D

I wish I could join the Marines, please don't say anything invloving me not to since it's difficult and the such, I know the whole thing. But anyways that's almost impossible because I have a couple medical issues that can't go well in the whilst of Combat :(.

I do not get this. The game contains really excessive violence (which I love :D) but you're concerned if the characters say mrf?

If the game was full with boobs, I guess it would be banned, right? :P But running someone through with a chainsaw or blowing his head off is ok?

This logic causes my brain to melt...

To me there's a HUGE line between Violence and Cursing. Cursing can actually get into the mind and it's hard to control what you say. As for the Violence I'm sure most people have a good restraint on performing those Actions ins Real Life.

I too don't give a mrf whether there is swearing in the game or not. It was good in Prey and it will fit the tone of this game just fine.

If there was a Profanity Filter in UT2004 then my guess would be yes, there will be one in Gears, unless Cliffy fights to keep it out.
