After spending hours on a shotgun, I combine all of the pieces and make sure nothing is floating on its own. I make a bone called "rootBone" and the smaller end "muzFlash". I smoothbind it to the mesh and test it out. Everything seems fine. I create a character set with both the skelton and the shotgun mesh. I set keys and create clips that all show up fine in the trax editor. But when I open

not saying I'm right but just guessing from my experience but seeing as your struggling for an answer here goes :)


"Warning:...no keyable attributes"; "Result 0" (no key set);

you need to select the joint your animating and have a manipulator like scale ,Rotate or move selected when you set a key


model grows in size; model teleports off of grid;

Suspecting you've not set the keys properly (in right order)

1) you need to Select the joint you're gonna animate then set a key

2) move the time slider

3) move the joint to desired postion

4) set another key


"No clip created because there are no keys in the timeline"

"Error: No object matches name" (I can see the name in the attribute editor and the hypergraph);

try "select All" in your viewport


mesh doesn't export properly, only skeleton does; mesh comes out invisible, even though triangulated, no animations export, even though they are selected in export window;

first you need to create a package and export the mesh, try having "Under Score to Space" ticked also make sure your Grid and mesh is properly scaled as even tho the model looks fine in maya it maybe tiny in ued

to export the animations "Select All" in viewport the select the desired clip in the trax editor then use the append option when exporting


"Error:" during maya 5.0 loading (yep, that's all it says); "Maya.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

mayaple 7.0 models are not compatible with mayaple 5.0

Thanks for your help, but some things seem a little bit more complicated than I thought:
-Both versions of maya crash, even when I just click on the desktop icon
-Models are invisible because they don't export. They don't export because they are from a different character set. A different character set that created itself.
-Timeline does not work at all--even when I started a new scene--in either version of maya.

I'm just going to buy 3dmax, because that's what autodesk is probably trying to make us do by ruining maya.
