can anyone tell me why the demorec that i recorded is running at at least twice the normal speed after avi conversion? now i cannot even enjoy the clip as the speed is so fast:(

You schould set DemoSpectator Tick rate to 30 if You are trying to record demo from Your local PC, if demo is recorded by server or client from server, then has TickRate from server ini setings - default is 30.
30 fps demoi isnt so good when You watch it, but when You dumpframes from it and made avi - all will nice and fluent - You don't need any edition then.
