any of you guys know a monitoring tool to see what processes/programs use how much CPU
something like asus probe but then for cpu/memory etc
Once in a while I get a cpu spike, but it's gone before I can see what caused it
thx.

Well, you could try task manager.
Unfortunately it's only available on the MS website & weighs in at about 28mb to download, and you need your XP key to register.
Task Manager (http://www.expresscomputeronline.com/20030915/techspace01.shtml).
Once you've done that, right-click on your sys tray & choose Task Manager from the menu.
Go to the processes tab , to see what's running, you can terminate the process by righ-clicking on it.
Run MsConfig from the run box in your start menu, you can control which ones run at startup.
Bonus! (http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/)
Hope this helps :)

Task Manager is standard in Windows, of course I have it
But it doesn't monitor the CPU and Memory, it just displays it
I can't watch it 24/7 lol
It needs to record the graphs so I can tell what happened later on
You can use the Performance monitor under admin tools. It logs everything. Comes with Windows XP Pro. Not sure about Home.

Yes I have that monitor
Now when you look at regular task manager, you can see all the processes and what percentage they use up.
I would like to be able to monitor that so when a certain process peaks in cpu usage I can read it in a log or something
can I do that with the Performance monitor ?
