Im a pain in the ass i know :p :p but...
i need to make a huge rocky vally, but everytime i try to do this i set up the terrain and everything but everytime i try 2 things occur..
for 1, sinse the vertex editing tool is a circle, i try to mak a long line of a terrain hole, but it ends up pulling half the other hole down so no the area in the middle of the 2 hols is way under the map nad u can see the texture on the bottom of the room.
2) everytime i try to do terrain editing on a large scale, my editor slows then freezes. my specs are..
P4 2.66 Ghz
512 MB RAM
160 GB HDD divided by 2 so its 80 GB for Windows XP.
is just that my comp can't handle it or is there something else?

it really shouldnt be like that. you should change that to 128x128. its best if you keep it like that. 128x128 256x256 512x512 is how it should be kept for terrain sizes. it can be smaller than 128, but you get what i mean right? that might be the source of your problem.

Well no, the source of his problem is that 96 isn't a power of two. There's no problem with making a 64x64 terrain. ;)

it also sounds like you're tying to subtract through terrain - which doesn't work (or have I just misread you're explanation[very likly])

nah, i have a very large subtracted cube (10240*20480*20480) and thast my whole map basicly and everything will go in the cube, then i put the terrain about 6144 uus up in the cube and try to make a deep valley, then i make 2 very large holes like this:

but then i try and lower the middle part and it messes the whole thing up but lowering everything else around it too far, im sure some1 has run into this b4.
also sinse my cube is massive, if my terrain is 64, then its not big enough and doesn't reach the end of it, it just stops and then theres is a huge drop off

you would be better importing a terrain map from and external image editor (see wiki for tutorial)
