Ok here's the deal. I am working my way through the tutorials and I am stuck very early on. I am trying to build the sample room. I had no problem making the cube with the specified dimensions nor subtracting it. My problem came with adding the textures. I loaded up the texture file as instructed and selected the walls subdirectory. I selected the desired wall texture, then tried to select a wall to apply the texture to. Nothing turned blue as described in the tutorial. I am wondering if I must use some selection tool that was maybe not mentioned. This seems easy enough, but it is giving me the blues
:(

how are you selecting the wall?

hold ctrl and left click them in the 3d vieport...from there release ctrl and right click and select apply texture...or you can select the faces/walls and go to the texture browser and select a texture and it'll automatically apply that texture

Turn off Anti-Aliasing in your video card settings.

Lets just assume that I can't find my Anti Aliasing property area in any of the video card stuff, how would I go about doing so. I've gt an ATI Radeon 9550, if that helps any. Why would this be stopping me from selecting a wall...???

you probably have selection highlight turned off.
select a wall and press S. if that doesnt do anything, press S again and check the setting in this menu:

It is the setting with the S next to it.

I don't know why it would stop you, but apparently it's a common problem. That's why it's listed in this (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=362296&highlight=3)) sticky thread at the top of the page.

I'm not sure where the settings for an ATI card would be as I'm using an nVidia card. I'm guessing they'd be under Desktop Properties, there might be a section in the Control Panel.

Tried just hitting the S key all it did was make the dull red wireframe cube i built (think it's called a brush??) turn bright red and back again. I couldn't find that little menu thingy you had, may be a different version or something. And as far as the Anti-Aliasing I found it after some extensive searching and I was unable to turn it off. I was only able to turn it up or down as in 2x 4x or 6x. No off option. I can get it to change the texture but not on and individual surface of the cube but on all of the surfaces.

Is there a way to get it off of camera control so that I can select something because if I click something and move the mouse a little the view moves. I tried holding ctrl and clicking and still nothing turned blue, i'm about to reinstall this thing and try again.

That menu is accessed by right-clicking on the grey bar above the viewport.

I don't know what is going on if you can't disable anti-aliasing as you say you can't. You are looking for global driver settings, right? Not in-game settings? I wish I could help more, I haven't a clue what the ATI settings menu looks like.

well you mention then red builder brush going from dull to bright red when you press S, so sounds like that is your problem. as nitrocalypse said just right click the grey bar above the perspective 3d viewport and follow the picture to make sure "selection highlights" are turned on (ticked)

also make sure you simply left click (ctrl + left click to select multiple surfaces) and dont move the mouse at all while clicking, otherwise youll just move the camera.

Ok guys i think something went wrong with the install, I just finished re-installing it and it's working just find now. I appreciate all of the suggestions. I think it did have something to do with me not moving while clicking though...
