umods dont work

ok, i tried to get several mods for ut2k4, and wat i usually have to do is redownload the zip file link. but when i double click the file, it doesnt do anything. i did a forum search, and everyone says reinstall the latest patch, do the following:

patch
ece
patch

but i put the ece on first, and then 3355, and i even did 3355 again, but still nothing. is there any way to fix this? cause its a pain to use the zip files

i simply re-installed 3355 and umods worked again.
