when youre playing the game, hit the button above caps lock and to the left of one.. its Tab for UK, but im not sure about USA..its one of the 2 buttons there :p
then when you get a little arrow in the bottom corner, type in: demorec name_of_demo and then hit enter
then when you want to stop it. press that button again and type in: stopdemo (or something along those lines)
and if you want to view it, go to the community section of the main menu, and select the demos tab.. you will then be given a list of the demos you have saved on your computer :) enjoy!

ps. to get 3rd person view.. hit F4 ;)

1. After recording the demo "client-side" you can't switch to spectator view; you're only allowed to view yourself in the first-person perspective. If you can get a hold of a demo that was recorded by the server, "server-side", then I think you can switch between all players and spectate in fly-by mode.

2. I think that the details in the demo playback could be dependent on what your current settings are and that you could change the detail level, but I've never thought of testing it.

This is True AFAIK

No. Because a Demo only records Movements,
it's not a "Video" that has all Frames as seperate Image Files.
The Textures are Loaded from your UT2004>Textures Folder.
So that won't be a Problem ;)

But only in Instant Action, or if the Server allows BehindView ;)

haha, you misread his post. he was right. since the demo is a set of actions to tell the UT2k4 engine what to render on screen, then the detail/graphics depend on what your current settings are when you playback the demo.

instead of converting to avi, try using the dumpframes command. this dumps each frame of ainmation into a folder as .bmp.

LoL, i thought "Current Settings when recording" :rolleyes:

Well yeah, use Dumpframes:

Insert=fixedfps 30|dumpframes start
Delete=dumpframes stop|fixedfps

Is there any way to have your weapon show up in the recorded demo? Also, for some reason when I render the demo to an avi it has no sound (it has sound when I'm watching the demo), but I'd like sound when watching it.

Demo to AVI never has sound, and there's no way to show the Weapon :bored:

Try using Fraps to record your demo :D

This will only help with the sound problem though
