Good example would be Roughinery.
How can I create an open roof map? I know it has something to do with subtractive brush sitting atop of the map with special properties.

Errr....I didnt really understood what you just said...I mean I couldnt find the "flags" or something...
I got it working, copied it from roughinery....just wanted to learn how to do it myself.

Quick way: right click on the surface you want to 'remove', ie the roof, and set the surface properties to 'fake backdrop'.
make another subtracted cube elsewhere in the worldspace, whack on some sky-like textures. Drop a skyzone info into this cube.
look up skyboxes on the wiki for more info
