Compatibility: UT2004 latest patch (3355 at time of writing)

Description:
SoldatUT is a standalone mod for UT2004 which came about from preliminary code tests on a 2D engine for a part of the full MD:MR game.
Whilst it tries to provide seamless and quality gameplay in of itself, there are some places where you will find quality sacrificed over portability. Basically, whilst this mod has to be compatible with core UT2004 elements such as vehicles, maps and players, the final version of MD:MR does not. Remember that in the final version of MD:MR we will have the luxury of designing all our content from the ground up with 2D portability in mind.

New Features:
- 2D Onslaught gametype.
- Vehicular support for most vehicles.
- Proper HUD radar for Invasion
- Nicer crosshair that doesn't make the game crash so much.
- Other random improvements and bugfixes.

Comments: Make sure to get some maps from the list provided at the download page so that the gametypes show up!
The game works fine for LAN play, but I have had reports of crashes on internet servers. Hopefully the causes of these crashes have been eliminated in this release (fingers crossed!)

Lovely, some vehicles to play with now, any chance for a 2DVCTF gametype too, or 2DLMS, or 2DLTS?

You know I got an updated beta version of 2DCTF-Ruin with full botpathing and snowfall, just gotta upload it to somewhere. 2DDom-Aswan was finalized but haven't uploaded it to anywhere either.


PS: I got bored and made a TC framework around SoldatUT, for my own conveniencesake if you want it, you can have it, also you should make your own maplist for the gametypes, it seems a bit cleaner, its isn't that much work, I mean for example;


class MapList2DTF extends MapList
config;

defaultproperties
{
}

That isn't that much work to create, as a final thing you should change the GameAcronym for 2DTDM to 2DTDM instead of 2DDM, same goes for 2DInvasion.

how are people finding stability so far?

i tried to make things better but its difficult when i cant reproduce the errors.
Anyway it used to crash occaisonally for me, and now it doesnt, so at least i must have fixed something..

edit:
just saw a post on beyondUnreal that implies the mod only crashes if you run a dedicated server. Can anyone verify this?

Vehicles could use a bit of work - the Manta's awesome, but the rest are a bit weird (blaming it on the vehicle-code not intended for 2D)... Nice though, dl'ed all the good old k0lpa 2D maps for this!:D :up:

i usually run listenservers across a few pcs to test stuff, yeah

i might try out a dedicated later in the week and see how it goes - if it starts to crash on me it will be a good place for me to start patching things up.

its a fairly big problem, so if i can work out how to fix it, ill probably put out one final version to fix the crashing up.

dedicated crash bug seems to be fixed now. I PM'ed you (you being Majai) if you want to give it a test - i really want to make sure everything is alright before i release it this time.

second thought, cbf waiting.

im really looking for some closure on this (:

new version is up now. *My* dedicated runs it without any hitches, which going from crashing every couple minutes seems alright.

Someone also suggested a map conversion, so I converted 13 (all) new maps over from smash2k3. have fun with those, most of them work pretty nicely.

Oh yeah, I liked the original Soldat and a absolutly love this!!!!!

To bad so few people play this online and that theres so few maps.
