Can't get the damn thing to show up in-game. :( It's listed in WOrM, but that's all you get. Also there's this weird file in the package that ends with .u.uz2, could that have something to do with it?

Edit: nevermind, redownloaded and it's working fine now.

couple nit-=picky things:

1. It's 18x, not 20x as you stated here.

2. There's really no difference between the zoom factor on this and on the UT weapons, you just gave it a bigger number is all. If there is a difference, it isn't much.

But I do like the rifle. Nice, simple, efficient.

I see in evil<3's last picture there the zoom says 20x. That's strange because the one I have only goes to 18.

Not like it really matters or anything, I'm just curious as to whats up with that.

I like this weapon but a couple of things bug me a little bit. I'm nit picking I know, but:

1/ - Is there meant to be a crosshair in Primary Fire mode, coz I don't see one and it's easy to miss an enemy when they jump you at close range.

2/ - Not real happy with the Head Shot animations. I prefer to see the head taken off and see the red fleshy skull bouncing off into the distance - hehe.

eh - I'll live with it coz it is a fun weapon. I particularly like the zoom animation.

Thanx kill4

1-Well, when not zoomed it's assumed not to be a crosshair. It's a balance, due to the weapon is really powerful.

2-About headshot anims I think they'll stay like that if any other people ask for it.

Thanks for commenting.

Why are you using a sniper rifle at close range anyway?

It's got no crosshair unzoomed cause you're really not supposed to use it like that.

Although you can counteract that by simply tapping the zoom button really quick. You can get it zoomed in at 1.0 or 1.1x. In other words the zoom will be extremely negligible but you'll have your crosshair.

...or you stick a very tiny piece of tape to the center of your screen. :bulb:

This is based on that whatsitsface game where sniper weapons have no crosshairs, right?

Nemephosis
04-11-2005, 12:18 AM
Now why would you want to stick anything on your screen, when all it takes is the slightest tap of the altfire button?

legacy-IdentityStolen
04-11-2005, 07:33 AM
Because that would take effort amd some initative. An extremely small amount, but still some that they would use other wise.

And that game I believe Xyx is reffering to is Counter-strike. The sniper rifles have no cross hairs when not in scope mode.

Like the pro sniper rifle though. Be better if even the skeletan (excuse the spelling)de-rezzed:D

The Professional Sniper Rifle is a higly letal rifle.

It also doesn't like H's either, lol;) :haha: .

So what exactly is the difference between this and the original sniper? It fires near enough same bullets, and can zoom. Does the bullets have a different effect or cause more damage?

Man, I really love this gun! The zoom function looks professional indeed, and the hit animations (esp. head shots) really give you the idea that you're firing a badass futuristic weapon.

Some minor issues & suggestions though:

-Sometimes the gun just kinda hovers in front of players (sideways!), i.e. they're not holding it right.

-A little smoke & muzzle flash would be nice for added realism. Nothing major, but imo you should be able to tell when someone fires the rifle. No firing effects at all looks a bit cheap.

-Maybe 99 damage instead of 100 (?) This is especially funny when you use the BloodLoss mut, see sig (you basically get a delayed death effect, very ghey).

-A 3-shot Prim fire (unscoped) burst mode w/muzzle rise would be seriously cool imo. Switching between standard and burst mode could be done via a keybind (preferably the one used by the Remote Strike weapons) or via mouse scroll in scoped mode (press Alt + scroll up or down to switch modes).

Anyway, nice work!

The Zoom is based on your default FOV

I have FOV 100, so i get a 20x Scope. FOV 90 only gets a 18x Scope though...:bulb:

legacy-kill4
04-15-2005, 08:11 AM
Anyways you won't lose your 20x zoom, because if you have your default fov set to 90 you're already zoomed +2 ;D

Nemephosis
04-15-2005, 10:40 AM
While that does make sense, you really shouldn't be calling it a 20x zoom, cause we don't all play at the same FOV. :p

Dude, are you gonna fix that floating rifle issue? Also what about the other suggestions I made, like the muzzle flash, 3-burst etc.? A few relatively simple tweaks could make a good weapon great.

legacy-kill4
04-16-2005, 01:04 PM
About the muzzle flash and the smoke I won't implement them just because this weapon is silenced. About the "floating weapon" issue I don't know what to do, since I it seems to be some weird kind of problem, it's looking like sometimes it happens and sometimes not.As a matter of fact you can see that in my screenshots the weapon does not float in any way. I think the floating problem could be related to custom player models, but I really don't know. I need time.

Why does a sniper rifle need a three-burst? It's not a Goddamn M16.

Well, Remote Strike's SMG is also silenced, but it has quite a large muzzle flash (and it looks pretty damn cool!). No muzzle flash / little puff o' smoke just feels kinda weird, like you're shooting a toy gun or something.

Yes, exactly. It doesn't always happen, and I can't really see a pattern (except maybe custom models). Well, it's not that big a deal, really, just thought I should mention it as no one else has so far, afaik.

Why? Because it would, you know, be kinda cool? <G> Bursts would only work in unscoped mode, btw, for close-medium range combat; that way, if someone sneaks up on you while you're happily camping away somewhere you might still take him out with a quick burst. Or when you need to do some crowd control, etc. To keep things balanced you could make burst shots somewhat less powerful and add some muzzle climb. And of course you'd still be shooting without a crosshair.

Oh, and once again this would be an optional feature, which could be selected via keybind or mousewheel scroll + alt (or whatever). Tri-burst hating purists could simply ignore it, and keep firing single unscoped shots. Come on, there are already plenty of burstless sniper guns out there, why not try something new? Two weapons for the price of one. ;)

Aren't there already about a million other realism mods with weapons that do what you want this to?

I think you're looking for Remote Strike. Actually, it's not bad at all. If you haven't played it, do it, it's fairly good.

I already have Remote Strike. It's got a few annoying bugs, but otherwise the quality is amazing, definitely one of the best weapon mods out there. Unfortunately it's also pretty much the only semi-realistic weapon mod for 2k4 (there are also a bunch of MP5s and a Benelli shotgun out there, but that's pretty much it afaik). Too bad the Covert Forces weap mod didn't get ported to 2k4, it absolutely owned in UT99. Had literally dozens of realistic weapons; pistols, rifles, SMGs, shotguns...the works.

Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen a sniper rifle with a burst feature, certainly not for the current UT, and it's really a shame this one won't have it either. :(

Why complain about something given to you guys to play with(for free). Who cares if there is a bunch of other "realism" mods, this is just another gun to play with. Download and enjoy or not, nuff said. :D

Nice, thanks for the tip Mooseman! The weapons look like they've been straight-ported from some U1 era game, but otherwise they're pretty cool... This mod reminds me a lot of Covert Forces (god rest its soul!). In fact, the similarities are such that it might as well be called 'CF Reloaded'.

Of course, I still want that bursting, smoke puffing, muzzle flashing sniper rifle... ;) :haha:

My complaints are strictly constructive, aimed at creating a better gun (in this case). Btw, speaking of guns, how about them 9mm SMGs, Mr. Evil -- have those been ported yet? :D

Actually I do not get this bug on any models I use nor any custom models. So I can't replicate anyones problems myself.
Maybe your custom model's need thier sockets rotated so they are correct.
