First vote for your favorite superweapon. And then...

Using a Target Painter, Ion Painter or Redeemer, what have been the most spectacular moves you have pulled off with them?

My most memorable was a Ludicrous Kill in ONS-The House after sending a Redeemer missile into the central node.

Target painter. my plane crashed into someone on the other team who just bailed his raptor and it killed him.

Our base node had just gone down on ONS-Grit-CLR (created by the very lovely CavernTan). We had 3 nodes, the enemy had 11 - my team was gunning for a humiliating defeat, it seemed. Fortunately someone with some sense had activated the base node shield, buying us some time to get the thing back up. After 2 more strategic attacks, the base node was locked, but we were still in trouble.

While we were busy dicking around with node shields, the enemy had gotten the Levi node built and the massive steel beast was crawling across the landscape, heading directly for one of our critical nodes. Fortunately, however, myself and two other team mates formed Ze Plan.

ONS-Grit-CLR is a vast, open map that has terrain that looks (at first) to have been generated in the editor alone. But, for those that have played, the map is special in that it has a healing pool around the center node, high-speed "people mover" shafts buried in the terrain, and The Temple of Superweapons.

The ToS sounds cool, but it can be a very frustrating place for those who have not mastered the UT2k4 movement system. In the heart of the temple are all three superweapons, a keg, and a 100a. To get there, a player must first jump, dodge jump, shield jump, and then wall-dodge without error. An error = landing in a kill zone filled with spikes.

The first team mate scurried off to the ToS while my buddy and I tried to distract the Levi. That didn't go so well, and we spawned back at the base node. By now my other buddy had made it through the ToS and had brought ze weapons.

We shared the weapons between us. I got the Ion Painter, ToS adventurer kept the Redeemer, and the third buddy got the Target Painter. We fanned out to three seperate positions on the map.

By now about a minute had passed sinced the enemy Levi had become a problem. As I was getting into position on the back side of the Levi, a lone deemer came curling out of the sky and shoved itself right up the Levi's rear. The vehicle shook, but held. I called in my Ion Painter strike. The Levi was now flaming. Charging the Levi with my Flak Cannon, I heard "Warning, incoming airstrike...".

I did a 180 and sought cover behind a nearby pillar. The Levi in ruins, the enemy offensive fell apart, victim to Wait-Until-the-Levi-Gets-There syndrome. We pushed the other team back to the center of the map and pulled off a win in OT.

The most retardular move with the superweapon I did was shooting it dumbfire at a node that was being fought for. We happened to build it before it hit th node, and sadly I died a few seconds after the fire.

I respawned at the newly built node, just to die from my own redeemer a second later.

Not my move but quite impressive:

Torlan:

Our core was vulnerbal and a raptor attacked it. Then the player jumped out, shot the redeemer and a few rockets at him. Hey nearly destroyed the core all alone :haha:

I prefer the Iron Painter, mainly because you cant get killed when fireing it like the deemer, and its just cool!

Frosbite: Big battle at the center node, the other team calls the airstrike, one of my fellow clan members proceeds to shoot it down, the plane went on fire and fell on 4 teammates (killing them) at which time we had just cleared the node of the enemy and had a clear build.

Severance.
I'm going uphill from the primary to the central node with my tank. Suddenly I see the incoming enemies: a Tank AND a Levi. With full energy.

Fortunately I have my precious deemer.;)

A teammate in a Raptor annoys them and takes down some health. I jump down, hide behind that ruin you find in that slope (an arch), and fire the deemer severely damaging the Levi. Then we finish him. The Goliath beneath him is still occupied trying to kill the Raptor, so with another couple of cannon hits I kill him. Then I go further, in sight of the locked central node, and start spawnkilling many guys. :p :p :p Then the node is unlocked, I destroy it, jump down, start it and return to tank to defend position. All this with 0 (zero) damage on my part.

It's actually quite boring. It just kinda has a little explosion and then divebombs until it plants its mechanical nose into the ground.

I don't have a pic of the Phoenix getting shot down, but when it happens, it descends rapidly with fire coming out the back, and as it nears the ground, it explodes entirely and disappears.

on torlan, right when the match started i got into the raptor (i was closest to it) and flew up to the redeemer and sheild. i did this so fast my raptor coasted off the top of the tower. there was another raptor coming up so i jumpped onto a jump pad far below avoiding cratering myself into the dirt. my team had just unlocked the node under the tower so i jumped onto the rock on the hill and then slid down the side farthest from the mountain taking minimum damage. i took the weapon pack and started to build the node. i switched to the redeemer as a manta with a guy on it were shooting at me. i got into the bushes that you can walk through near the node and secondaryfired the redeemer. i missed them they were going so fast and just as their node's sheild directly ahead was unlocked, i aimed for that. people started to spawn there to protect it. lots of people  . this match by the way had 50 people. it was listened, but titled aleenware only. my rocket was still going for the node. RIGHT as i pressed left mouse because there was so many people i died from the manta. when i respawned i got a "H O L Y S H I T" kill and everyone yelled at me in chat that i killed.

i never did kill that manta.....

But wait, how could there have been 50 people in the server? I thought 32 is the max.

And I find it quite rare to get a Holy S**t with one redeemer blast alone; I've gotten one Ludicrous Kill though from one.

There's some strange way of starting a server and then hacking it up to a 64 player max while it's still running.

Of course, he could be exaggerating. :downcast:

Redeemer

i was playing in i think Jailbreak-M for AS

i had a redeemer, and because the objective was in a little like, box thing, their were 2 pairs of stairs on one side, and a sliding one from the roof

to get inside, you must stand next to a little wheel, and wait for the door to be open enough to get in

around 8 people were just camping in there, so their were like, 2 people running around outside not doing much

i took a redeemer from our spawn and opened the door just enough, jumped up (to save time opening it more) and shot it RIGHT in the corner where everyone was visable to it (almost, theirs like, 1 tiny little place you can hide)

killed EVERY person in there i think (i wasnt in there, a teammate from the roof jumped in after i did it and finished both objectives with ease :):D

While playing ONS-Severance on Cain's Lair, I found myself blessed with both a Redeemer and a Manta. I flew to one of the corner nodes, jumped up the cliff, rode through the ion_volume for a while, and then jumped down into the valley next to the enemy base node.

CLR is a 32 player server, 16 on each team, meaning, of the 16 people to share between their single node, the enemy team had zero people running around their base, and one person on foot guarding the base node.

The poor bastard was looking the other way when I came roaring up, so I let the Manta go and switched to the deemer. A half second later I got "Roadkill!" While dodge-jumping into position, the same person respawned at the node, and didn't even have time to get to the weapon locker before being caught in the blast of the deemer.

I pissed someone off with the redeemer, this player is quite annoying and arrogant (has half the skills to back it up though). He was dominating on this server, till I got right next to him, and blew the both of us into oblivion!

He goes on quite a bit of a rant after that, whinging and complaining. Still won by 15 frags too.

Once, I dodged past a corridor while pumping my 'deemer directly down it - it hit another player some 1½ meters in! :haha:

I could SO visualize me shouting "Fire in the Hole!" as the shockwave blasted out from the corridor. :)
Too bad I didn't have a proper mic at that moment. :(

You're right, it was. I haven't really had a chance to play there since last August. As soon as I have my own apartment, though, watch out...

My last (maybe) story for this thread involves a Manta, a deemer, a base node, and me. While playing Torlan on CLR, I was flying down from our tank node (for reference, the sun was directly over the base) in a fresh Manta. I spotted a deemer making its way through the canyon, so I hauled ass all the way around the map, boosted off the hill next to our tank node, and spammed Manta fired as fast as I could. Instead of hitting it with plasma, though, the wing of the Manta clipped it and the missle exploded in the midair. My speed saved me, and I got away with my Manta's HP at 197.

On the main topic I like the redeemer.

On Torlan I got the redeemer just as my team took the last node so I desided to wait for them to build it opening the core for my shot. Unfoutunatly we lost the node so I moved down there and managed to retake it by myself(pure luck). As I started the node everyone from the other team came around the hill and started attacking. Realizeing it was a lost cause I shot the redeemer at the node and took out all 5 of the attacking team and to my suprize was knocked back but not hurt by the blast. I resecured the node as the rest of my team finnaly arrived with heavy artillery.

Aparently when team damage is turned off Redeamers won't hurt members of the team that launched them unlike rockets.

Shortly after UT2K4 was released, I shot down the Phoenix Bomber on Severance only to have it crash right on top of me. :sour:

This was back when we were all learning the ropes. Common wisdom at the time was that turrets were the only effective countermeasure against the bomber, and this was the first time I'd ever tried shooting it down with Shock; I'd never seen this done before, and the tactic was still undiscovered in these forums. I was thrilled when the bomber started flaming after only three Shock hits - I had single-handedly saved our primary node while uncovering a totally new tactic - and I started to type a message to my team when I realized the Phoenix was plummeting straight toward me. :D

'Deemer.

Best move I've pulled off was accidental, and I'm not positive I really did it, or even whether it's possible, but...heard the Redeemer fired and looked up to see it coming straight at me just as I translocated up in an effort to get out of the area. As soon as I right clicked, there was no blast, and no Deemer.

Is it possible to telefrag it, or was it more likely hit by some stray fire?

Second post here, but whatever. On Deck 17, I got the redeemer first and run into the rocket launcher corridor, there was a heavy firefight going on, so I launched the nuke at the feet of the closet player and dodged out of the room in one smooth motion (barely avoiding my own blast), hearing Multi-Kill!

Also, I stopped a Redeemer from taking out our node on Torlan by hitting the node with a tankshell right before the nuke impacted.

Good thread, keep the stories coming.

I was playing on the NBS server (it might've been Fat Jimmy's) and the map was Backbone. The other team led by 2 captures with one minute to go. I ran up the ramp to grab the redeemer, but another player stood there waiting. We engaged in a firefight and I succeded in killing them with my flak cannon and dodge - jumping across the hole, grabbing the redeemer. 45 seconds left. I sat up on the ledge above the enemy base though out of sight, adrenaline pumping. When I saw the clock hit 20 seconds I quickly jumped down, floating safely to the ground with my parachute. 10 seconds. I ran up to the hole just above the flag, firing the redeemer in.... "Mega kill!" ... and totally ruining their win picture
