Name:Blood Loss mut (bleeding to death mut)

Compatibility:UT2004
Description:
BloodLoss comes in two flavors, Classic/Hardcore
& Lite, which show up as separate muts in the menu.
BLOODLOSS CLASSIC/HARDCORE
When their health drops below 75 players start to
bleed. Bleeders steadily lose health, leave blood
trails and experience slowdown until they either heal
themselves back to 75 HP or more, or die of bloodloss.
In the latter case they lose a point. You need to heal
yourself back to 100 HP or higher to fully reverse
slowdown effects. The rate of bloodloss can be
adjusted in the config menu (default = 1 HP/sec).
BLOODLOSS LITE
Same as Hardcore, only without the slowdown effects.

The first player who gets hit by anything, dies first. This borders to last man standing in terms of camping... 75 should be lowered imo.

how often u bleed is configureable it would take at least 1:30 minutes if only hit once to bleed to death and in UT its not likely u will start that long without bumping into some1. btw sry about the pic i am very busy so cant change it now

Only if you play without health items & the healing adrenalin combo, and/or (only) use weapons which zap 90 or so health with a single shot. Otherwise whoever is hit can run to the nearest health pickup (or adrenalin-heal himself) and stop the bleeding. 2 crosses or the HP equivalent in health vials will usually do the trick, and 3 will ALWAYS stop the bleeding. Also, as kritanta already mentioned, you can adjust the bleed settings to, say, 1 HP every 2 or 3 secs instead of 1 per sec. This only makes sense on large(r) maps with relatively few health pickups, though. For small to medium maps with normal health pickup placement the default setting should be just fine.
The point of this mut is to make the game a bit more realistic and tactically challenging. Control of health items becomes a key issue, and the blood trails make hiding a bit more difficult when you're wounded. Everyone gets a bit more paranoid about getting shot, just like in real life. ;)

Well, it does make camping a bit more challenging, which isn't such a bad thing IMO. Campers/snipers now must check whether there are health items (preferably 50 HP or more) within a ~30 sec radius. Or, they need to make sure they have enough adrenalin for a healing session. A sniper could, for example, wound his victim with a body shot, then pick him off as he (predictably) rushes to the nearest health pickup(s), or simply keep him pinned down somewhere until he bleeds to death. This in turn can be countered by making sure you always have enough adrenalin, multiple escape routes etc.

but what are the chances that you are killing someone who is wounded, and they die from bloodloss right before you deal the finishing blow?

It happens, occasionally, but it isn't really a problem afaik. Tip: finish your victims off with a single blast from a (relatively) powerful weapon, so basically shock rifle or higher, instead of mini/AR spray fire. This will usually kill them outright and you'll get your point. Of course, in some cases it might actually be better to let them bleed to death so they'll lose a point...
Btw, sometimes when you shoot the bots with the WidowMaker sniper rifle they continue on for a sec or so and then kinda jump up into the air, scream, and drop dead. Looks totally gay. :D

nice mutator...one I will use now. Could there possibly be a way to set it so only I bleed and no one else did? I was just curious because I had been working on a sort of predator like cloak for something, and needed the bleeding to work with the player using that ability, making it easier to track them.

just a mod based on a graphic novel I was working on for many years. I had a creative block so I decided to just turn it into a game for now...although it's really early in planning, yet every possible bit of design via the art and story is all there. One of the characters abilities is similar to the cloak. It's actually nothing to do with predator though, or no technology anyone can "pick up" in game, just was using that predator reference as something to relate what I was saying without explaining what it really is.
I will check out to my best ability though, making a custom pawn for that. Thanks for the reply. :)

The WidowMaker is part of the AnnihilationArsenal (http://www.sithlegend.com/annihilationarsenal/) weapon mod. "Based on the M82A1 Anti material rifle the Widow maker can engage a single target with deadly accuracy from very long range the chances of survival when hit are 50% on a completely healthy target, how ever if they do survive any fall damage (or bleeding, heh, heh...) is guaranteed to kill them." The ROF is a bit low, though, so I tweaked mine with WeaponStuff (http://mods.nurulwai.net/ut2004mods.htm).

How about making the bots "gay" with every weapon? :noob:

Well, you could try to make the bots a bit smarter at healing themselves with health pickups like I mentioned in the last email. Can't really think of anything else at the moment, (unless you wanna try that crotch shot thing... ;) ).

Kind of weird when you are in a vehicle with little health and it contains no blood whatsoever...and then you bleed to death in the vehicle while your health is at max. :D
Maybe you could have fuel leak instead and if someone shot the leaking fuel, the whole vehicle would explode? :P

Yeah, I guess this should be fixed, though it is kinda funny. "Brock's Ion Tank bled to death, stupid bastard!" :D

This is actually a pretty cool idea :up: (but maybe a bit difficult to implement; I dunno...).
Something else that might need fixing is the robots and monsters (Skaarj etc.) bleeding red blood, while it should be purple and green, respectively.

Sounds great i felt a bit odd when i read about bleeding to death but its a great mut.:p
If i hurt the bot and i left him to bleed to death would i get the kill. Yea i know it sounds like i dided play it, i did its just i killed the bot or some one els kills the bot befor it has time to bleed to death.:p

No, you don't get a point for letting someone bleed to death, unless he happens to be airborne at the time of death (due to a fall or momentum from an explosion). The bleeder simply loses a point; bleeding to death counts as a suicide. We originally wanted to include a normal frag reward setup where the last one to hit the bleeder gets a point, but there were some issues with that so we settled on the suicide thing. It works fine though, most of the time. ;) Sometimes bots act a bit dumb, slowly bleeding to death while standing next to a bunch of health pickups, but in team games you can simply walk up to the pickups and usually they'll follow you and heal themselves.
Anyway, if you want to score points just shoot people like you always do, as use the bleeding to soften them up a bit. :D

The only thing I'd like to see is being able to bleed faster than 1 damage per second... And having a pawn bleed it's natural blood color... robots bleeding red blood is... odd... other than that, good job!
