I understand that smeshes are lit using their vertices. I have a spiral staircase (made in 3ds max) that wont light properly unless I subdivide the entire thing causing a dramatic jump in complexity.

Basically should i be too worried about this ?, the stair case is in a closed off room, after zoning it shouldn't affect the rest of the map too much should it ?. Is this really the best place to use a smesh or should I just do it in BSP, it would certainly light better but would it take up more resources than a smesh. I only use the spiral stairs once in my map.

I'd make it bsp.

or you could just put lights above the mesh and change the light to bspecialit and the mesh to bspeciallit....tis what i do ;)
