I've got the basics down fine (although still have much to learn about terrains), but my question is simple. I'm interested in making a ground based VCTF map, but after having seen all the different ones what would the mappers out there (particularly Angel Mappers view I would appreciate on this), suggest is a good sized map, as all those I've done previously have been about foot work only??

Thanks one and all.

Eh, I would say it doesn't matter, just make a big cube for start and start mapping.
After youre done, you can minimize the cube's size.
OR if the cube is too SMALL, you can enlarge it later.

What he said. I just make a giant cube, larger than I would ever need (for outdoor maps at least), then start making the level, adjusting the size when I feel it isn't what I was going for. And don't forget to add a Pawn >> UnrealPawn >> xPawn to get your scaling right.

Thanks to you both. Never thought of using and rescaling a single cube. The last level I built was done more "on the fly" than anything.

I suggest you should open an existing map that you feel is sized right in UEd and look what its dimensions are.

I have played and made many VCTF maps and I think the only problem is if you make it too big. And I think that holds true for all the gametypes.

Just because you got vehicles doesnt mean you got to make some huge terrain map!

Small VCTF brush maps can be quite fun and will give you good frame rates but big terrain maps can be fun too but might be a bit harder to make ect.

You look at 3 examples in my maps and play them in instant action with the bots and you will see all are just fine and fun.

Try VCTF-1ADeathTrap which is a small one then you try VCTF-1BJADEDHILL which is about as big as I would go on one.

Then try VCTF-1BSMARTCOVE is just about average size!

Ah yes. The deathbiker. That mutator grew on me pretty dam quickly. Its one of those, that I tend to use more than others.

Yes the "deathbiker" is rude but "TheCraft" is even ruder!

If I only had one of these in real life. Is "ruder" even a word?
