ive had UT2004 for some time now, but ive only just reinstalled it after getting bored with it! but im really into it now. anyway how hard is it to make a map? or should i just give up now? bear in mind the only mods ive done is replace the posters in vice city and i once made an island for myself in Morrowind! :D and ive done other bits in other games. is it easy (ish) to pick up or will it take about 3 years to put a box on the floor!!! :D
thanks for any help :)

You can make a box in the floor in less than an hour, the problem is a lot of mappers release it to the public.
Basic tutorial in my sig. :)
And please PLEASE don't release anything until you've made 12 maps. :)

Well, it really isn't hard, once you know how to do it. Goto 3DBuzz (http://www.3dbuzz.com) and Register. In the Downloads section are some excellent Video Tutorials for making Maps in UEd.
Maps take a lot of time to complete and there are many things that need to be done from start to finish, but I find it fun. Don't expect to be successful with your first few Maps, I'm on my 5th and have yet been satisfied enough with them to release to the Public. Each time though it has become easier to make my Maps and each time I learn something that helps me avoid Noob mistakes.
In short, don't quit before you try and don't quit after you try and fail. Like anything in life Mapping skills grow with practice and with failures.
Angel: 12 Maps!!! Crap, I'm gonna make a bunch of boxes right now!! :D

Yes. Nobody will ever see my first 12 (UT99). CTF-PieceOfS*** and DM-DearGodISuck rest in peace.

isnt 12 a little harsh? i didnt release my first 2, but my 3rd to 5th were decent...
the two tut maps and AS-Gauntlet, i admit there nothing really special, but if u spend some time on it there not so bad.

This tutorial assumes that you have never even opened UnrealEd:

My first map was a total mess (Homs, Mirror glitches, etc.). Anyways the best place I found is the Unreal Developer Network or UDN. Here is the link http://udn.epicgames.com/

There is an exception to that rule :p
I spent 3 months on my first map, working the hell outta it, until i managed to get it decent. Then i kept working on it. Just don't release anything until you create something you honestly believe is decently well made, and you would want to play yourself. (do NOT include omg redeemer maps though, it has to be something that others would have difficulty creating :p)
The map im talking about, there is a link in my sig, so you can See its not nearly as crappy as it could be. :p
