Stakeout is a mutator that allows you to kill your enemies with a wooden stake.
On impact the dead body is pinned to the wall... muuhhhaaaa!
Also we now have a PIKE to impale you friends on. You can then carry their corpse around as a trophy.
Note. hold the pike fire in to hold the ragdolls longer. I need to mess with the vehicles a little more but the pike and stakes do damage them. If you stand on a vehicle and fire the pike down at it , the vehicle will lift off and take you up. If you hit a vehicle with the pike it will come to a halt. PLay in the goodkarma map with the pike and you can play rugby(American football?) with the karma balls.

stakeout Arena mutator:-
You must use this arena mutator so that the stakes can be picked out of the walls.

Stakeout Mutator:-
replaces guns with the stakelauncher

I would like to recommend this mutator(NOT MINE, no point re-inventing the wheel)

to replace the default inventory with the pike and the stake launcher. I found that replacing the shield gun with the PIKE and the Assault rifle with the stakelauncher works best.

Ok I had a problem. I opened it the game up, went to instant action, chose DM, chose map, configured rules, then I made this the only selected mut. When the map loaded, there was no stake gun!!! I was stuck with reg UT2004 weps! I retried this several time and no luck! Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Anyone else get this prob?

For best results, set GORELEVEL to 'reduced gore'

This keeps the ragdoll intact , so the whole body flies through the air.

can you re download and install again.

If it stll wont work in Instant Action, can you save your UT2004.log
file and check it for errors.

Could someone make an anti-gibbing mutator? Reduced gore does this, but it turns the blood green. It would be cool if someone could make a mutator to prevent the gibbing, but also retain the red blood.

i'm going to add this to this mutator.

I've got a blood pooler working, so an expanding pool of blood hits the wall or floor around the stake.
+ a blood spray from the body.

Stakes that hit walls now stick into the wall or floor.

I'm making the stakegun model now.

Dude, i can't wait to play this.
I've been waiting for this ever since the painkiller demo came out.
BTW, it'd be cool if the stakeguns had ammo(I haven't tried it yet, dont know yet), and you could pick up stakes stuck in enemies(They fall to the floor, etc.) and use it as ammo.

2.It'd be cool if you shot an un-lethal stake at someone, it didn't kill them, but they lost a lot of health. And they would be pinned alive.

It'd be cool if you could make it like the Alien Vs. Predator 2 predator's speargun. You shoot it at someone's head, they die, you get a headshot, and that person's gibbed head is flung and stuck into a wall by the stake.

Also, did I mention that it would be awesome if you could make explosive stakes? Shoot one with left click, pin the player to a wall or such, wait for another player to come, right click, detonate stake, and blow up that person running by. Karma Timebomb:D .

And, to ne><is, thanks. I do have a demented mind.

that would be hard since the corpses normaly gib, so, unless you detonate the stake itself and not the body, it must be impossible imho.
also, can you try to make a non-instakill version, so we see stakes on poeples body (arse, head, foot...)

You need to set file associations for .ut4mod files.

To fix it go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Folder options, or open my computer -> Tools -> Folder Options. Then click the 'File Types' tab. you can delete the old .ut4mod file type and create a new one with the correct association.

Choose 'New'. Set the file extension as '.ut4mod' and click 'ok', now find the new .ut4mod file in the list (usually it sticks a new one at the top), select the new .ut4mod file and click 'advanced'.
in the new window, click 'new'
in the "action" blank put "Intall Umod files" or something descriptive and in the "application used to preform action" blank put this:

C:\UT2004\system\setup.exe install "%1"

(with your correct directory of course).

now .ut4mod files should be associated with setup.exe and should run now.

Thanks for your reaction,
but it still doesn't work,
when i double click your Ut4mod, it takes a while and there's the icon ( next to the point mouse, that thingy, which tells you to wait)(sorry, didn't knew how to say it in correct english)
But after that... nothing happends... :(

This is really nice. Yeah the half life crossbow was always nice. I like bow and crossbow weapons wish there was more things like that just for regular DM.

fun mod:noob: but i have some things to point out.

1) when you shoot a stake and it hits a wall the stake will appeare as Big flak ammo on the wall and look stupid. so change the ammo look.

2)When you hit someone the stake always apperes on the neck.

3) When you colect a stake of a wall you get infinate ammo.

oh and this is really fun if you give the shock rifle on weapon stufff
the stakes for primarey. (hint: they shoot aout really fast.)

In the mutator 'instastake' the ammo pickups are not there since the mutator mops them up.
The new version is ok for arena 'cause I've made the pickup and ammo meshes.(the flak ammo was just a test)

Thanks for the comments about the neck! working on it now

The stake in pawn is now covered in blood and a has a blood jet comming out of it with an expanding pool of blood on the floor/wall. It takes 2 or three shots to kill, so everyone is running around with stakes in them.The gibbing is stopped too.

Quick update.


Beta1.1 will have:-
weapon models 1st and 3rd person
sounds
blood poolers
blood jets
no gibs
multiple stakes before kill
stakes can be picked out of the walls

I'll put a link to the download on sunday morning (a zip file)

It works best using the STAKEOUT ARENA mutator and pick the 'stakelauncher'

EDIT: I tried the mut, but I got given a Flak Cannon with no firemodes, and it looked like a sniper rifle in 3rd person...

EDIT2: I tried again. It turns out, either a) my mouse is acting up or b) there's some sort of "cook up". It's bizarre. I usually have to click the primary fire a couple of times before it actually fires. Same with secondary.

Yeah, that confused me for a little while too. You need to hold down primary fire for half a second before it fires.

Ye, I needed do do some network testing on my lan.

extract it to your drive containing ut2004.
(I had to point it to the drive letter, not ut2004)

Make sure small weapons is unticked so that the weapon shows up.

The mutator is ' STAKEOUT ARENA'
pick the STAKELAUNCHER in the configure box

It had to have its own arena so that the stakes work in the walls

Let me know what you think .

Finally! I downloaded 1.0 thinking it was 1.1, but now I can play 1.1! Gj, SLOG.
First noticed: Shooting a BR ball while it is in the air causes it to freeze and you can intercept it:)

Haha! Shame it doesn't get pinned to a wall!

One thing I noticed in 1.0 is that the stakes were a little TOO magnetically attracted to walls... if the nearest wall was to the stake's left, but the body was flying in a straight line down a corridor, the body will veer towards the wall and go "crunch" rather hard on it... XP

One thing; it looks silly when one stake turns into a bunch of stakes in the wall. In some rooms in cramped maps the walls and floors look like you're in some sorta porcupine room.

I suggest you change it to use the "bullet" mesh as the ammo mesh and make all ammo pickups 1, to stop it looking bizarre when 1 stake turns to 10 (it's also a cheat way of infinite ammo if you think about it)

sounds like you used the normal 'ARENA' mutator instead of the 'STAKEOUT ARENA'

In the ARENA mutator all the pickups are changed ,including the ones in the wall, thats why I had to make the STAKEOUT ARENA to allow the singe stake pickups in the walls.

let me know if thats the case here plz.

I found this mutator quite interesting...however, like someone else mentioned, when you shoot someone, they have a tendancy to tie themselves down to the nearest wall. Not to mention they move pretty slow...maybe take a look at speeding them up and also creating some code to form a vector between the person firing and the first wall in front of them, and then have both the stake and the dead person follow that vector until they hit that wall.
Also, the blood trails are red by default - this is odd for robots and Skaarj and all. Don't know if it would be possible to check for species or anything to check the blood trail, but it'd be nifty if you could.

Just a thought. It's great as is. :)

As i have probly said before.....frickin awsome but i still want to see that when you shoot someone with a stake it stays there.

like when i shot a bot in the leg the stake appeard in the neck.

if you did this you could have headshots added and it would be dam funny to have a bot pind to a wall by 4 stakes in the crotch.:p

Jesus, you can get UT2K4 for like $20 or $30. Even over here in Canada I only paid $57 for it. Nobody mods for 2K3 anymore because nobody PLAYS UT2K3 anymore.

Ive made a mutator to replace the lightning gun with the stakelauncher, so you can have the stakelauncher with the rest of the ut weapons..

in a zip!

pick the 'STAKELAUNCHER' mutator , and the lightning gun is replaced by the launcher and the ammo.

I now have UT2004 (christmas gift) and Iīd love to test it when I get home, but I have two questions for you.

1) Are you going to create a replacer so I can use the Stake Launcher in Worm2004 or other weapon swapping mutators?
2) Does it or will it have a custom skin and/or model?

The stake does move about depending on which one killed the enemy, but I am working on the last stake being steady in the wall.

1.3 out end of this month

Fraps is a well known movie maker that supports UT2004 demos as far as I know... Make a Google search for it.

Fix as many bugs as possible for a month and then release it as final say mid to end of march.

it'sa free program (at least you can get it free without all the components) wich lets you record what's on your screen :D

cool weapon. Just a few visual beefs, nothing major. The stakes seem at tad big, and i think you need a better muzzle effect, instead of the sniper rifle smoke. Perhaps some wood splinters flying off of the gun on release or something.

Thanks Cman, I like the idea of the wood splinters.

The model will have two wheels that propel the stake , so thats a good place to put the wood splinters.
I'm updating the stakelauncher and stake models , so I'll make the stake thinner.

Based on what I've seen with the BETA (1.2 I believe) I can say that a couple of things need fixing :

- The stakegun model was not visible in 1st person view when holding it.
- The stakegun replaces the LG as pickup but is the Flak on my HUD
- The stakes fly like missiles, defying gravity, look @ Painkiller, the stakes should arc, VERY comparable to the Bio, but with difference physics obviously.
- The karma models get hit by stakes, but instead of realistically flying away 1 meter or so, they fly like 100 meters (in Rankin, try and kill a bot standing in the shock room, facing the rocket launcher area, the bot can go flying all the way to the windows there.
- also, bots somehow go breakdancing every now and then, see if this can be solved please. Thank you

1 I had godmode on so I could test the weapon at close range

2 the model is not configured for smallweapons view atm so it only shows up when you have small weapons not ticked. I'll sort that out next release.

3 stakegun will have its own slot and icon in the next release.

4 good point on the distance the stakes fly. I will make them arc after a certain distance. like it!

5 I'll make a distance limit on the far wall ,so it will stop dragging after, say 10 yards or so.

6 sorted that out now.

Thanks for that , great ideas. sometimes I can get too close to the nitty gritty and miss out on the good tweaks.

Its possible to make the stake wobble

If the ragdolls move too fast they tend to get joint errors, and the game deletes them, so there is a limit to the speed, and I've prety much reached it.

Its possible to impale a player who has also impaled a player, so you get a chain of corpses, bloody funny.

Note. hold the pike fire in to hold the ragdolls longer. I need to mess with the vehicles a little more but the pike and stakes do damages them. If you stand on a vehicle and fire the pike down at it , the vehicle will lift off and take you up. If you hit a vehicle with the pike it will come to a halt. PLay in the goodkarma map with the pike and you can play rugby(American football?) with the karma balls.

stakeout Arena mutator:-
You must use this arena mutator so that the stakes can be picked out of the walls.

Stakelauncher Mutator:-
replaces the lightening gun with the stakelauncher

I would like to recommend this mutator(NOT MINE, no point re-inventing the wheel)

Bots are very good with the Pike.

It makes for quite a challenge to beat them. Keep your distance and shoot the buggers before they pike you.

A few of us went on the server and bots beat us every time.
I won once in about 15 rounds.

I found it best to have a bot on the end of my pike and charge at another bot. He then pikes the bot I'm holding and I poke him in the eye and use him as a shield.

Hold onto the ragdolls longer by holding down the fire button.

Yeah, but scorp bola doesn't tie up the player's feed and send them flipping upside down fifty paces as they flail helplessy.

I would say get a club too... to knock people around repeatedly. And then knock their bodies around the level... but htat just kinda sounds like impact hammer or shield gun ^^ so nm that idea...

How about a rope trap? Set it along the ground and someone comes along and snags it and is hoisted up above? (or to the side... below... whatever)??

how about a large stake that you stick into the ground. The stake has a chain at the top attached to a flail ball, which swings around at a radius of ,say 5 feet. If your inside the radius ,your safe. Anyone comming near you would be caught by the metal ball and swung around .I see loads of boddies swinging around this giant flail ,while you sit in the middle shooting anyone around you. It would be a good shield against the Pike. You could plant a few of these(throwable) as traps or to stop the enemy picking up weapons.

Re stake gun: probably already been mentioned, but it would be nice if you could nail live players to objects (mostly walls) and each other for a couple of secs. Also dead ones to live ones. :p

Oh and alt fire should throw the pike like a spear which, if it misses, can be retrieved by its owner or picked up by another (pikeless) player. Could have one of those chargeup bars; the longer you charge, the farther it flies.

I've put the "Venus staketrap" in the alt fire of the stake gun.

I've had a go at fixing the stakes pulling from different directions when two stakes are in the victim from different players. I think its fixed now, so that only the last stake attached will move the corpse.

Just putting the axe and 1 more item in, sortin out the icons and revamping the stakegun model.
pike alt fire can be used to pole vault
venus staketrap is now much better, lasts longer and I've added emitters.
Adding the Iron Maiden pickup base(all weapon pickups will be in an open Iron Maiden. If you pick up a weapon, other players can close the door on you and you become impaled on the door.)

last beta on Sunday.
I'll test like mad on Sunday on the server.

If thats OK I'll release it as the final on Monday

Yeah, except thereīs alittle more complicated hurting system in this Nailgun compared to Q1īs.

Update:

Iron Maiden coding done:

Each weapon pickup point will have an impaled skeleton next to it.
If you shoot the skull , the pick up base becomes yours for a few seconds.
If anyone tries to pick up from that base while possesed, the iron maiden will rise from the ground and close around you impaling the corpse to the door.

Oh and the stake launcher needs MAJOR polishing (some problems are that people are going through walls and floors, wrong end of stake stikin thru walls, etc.) other than it just needs polish in general.

AND PLEASE I BEG YOU MAKE THE STAKES STAY IN THE CORPSE!!

Also, an idea if you charge primary fire with stake launcher it "charges it" which affects drag distance\intensity\velocity and damage.

And more blood would be good.

Still some texturing to do, but all the animations work well, so I'll finnish the texture and have it imported into UT2004 this weekend.

Is anyone else getting a massive amount of warnings in their log files when running this mutator? Here's a sample line:

Warning: pikefire VCTF-DavesKillers-.stakeoutpikeinv.pikefire2 (Function StakeOut.pikefire.ModeTick:019F) Accessed None 'Blood'

It just keeps repeating that line.

I played against a few bots, testing it out on our LAN server, and within two minutes I had a 15MB log file. I get the error whether there are bots or not.

Is there an easy way to disable these warnings?

or all of them?

I will have the new version out very soon ,so it would be best to wait for that. It is sooo much better.
The pike was an experiment(at that stage) to pick up things in the game. Now its much more realistic and can be used to pole vault.
I'll check out that warning and squash it.

Pole vaulting can be useful for getting over death pits. in example... Lava pits, Acid pits, Pitfalls... anything dangerous on the ground.

As to the error, it seems to happen on all the machines. Server, Client, and also when I just do a local Instant Action. I tried switching through all the Gore modes (Full, reduced, none) and still got the errors on all of them.

Great weapon, BTW. The people I've shown it to here at work are dying to get it in our LAN games. :D

I'm Back!

Sorry for delay.. Major computer malfunction.

Lucky I made backups.

Just need to sort out the host for the file and we're away.

I'll put the file up here tonight .between 9pm and 10pm GMT

It has its own mutator with config for the Iron Maiden and replace weapon options .Also Pike option(to replace shield gun)

so, there are two mutators:-

Stakeout weapon replacer
Stakeout Arena(stakelauncher)
