i got a nforce 2 ultra made by dfi, and the thing just sucks, it crashes, goes slow when it shouldent. ive had so many problems with it, the specs are
amd athlon 3000+
512 ddr ram 400 mhz 3200 some of the best ram u can get
ati radeon 9800 pro vid card
160 gig hard drvie 7200 rpm
ok i know that just loading up windows shouldent take 10 min, and sometimes it just locks up, i have reformatted several times, no spyware at all, my guess is that its the mother board, because everything else works fine because i put them in another computer and they worked. so im thinking about getting an asus mother board, here is the linky

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=590675&CatId=1136
would t his be a good mother board? any help is needed thanks:sour:

I had the Gigabyte Nforce3 board with PMI turbo memory in it and it never ran right. I got an exchange for a Chaintech nforce3 and corsair XMS memory and it rock solid now.

I think the gigabyte may have run better with the corsair memory.

Moral of the story, try and see if the manufacturer has a list of compatable memory and try to get as close to that memory list as possible with your ram (i.e. brand and speed)

Epox 8RDA6 Pro : http://www.epox.nl/english/products/motherboard/8rda6%2B.htm

Abit NF7-S2 : http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=204

that's if you want to stay with sockect A for now. if your planning to upgrade to a amd64 setup then i can recommend the sockect 939 MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum 54g, this is the board i have myself and i like it allot.

Good board, but personally I'd be happier with an Nforce chipset in there, rather than the Via one. I know you've had problems with the nforce, but every one I've built/used has been rock solid, and VIA have been nothing but trouble in the past. (Yeah, they're supposed to be ok now...).

Having said that, that's a good board for the price.
