That's BSP, i did it on purpose to try to give the effect of really overgrown bricks. I probably failed at conveying it though :p It DOES look better ingame though. :p

EDIT: D/L Link added

EDIT 2: Also, if you find the easter egg, i will give you a GIANT cookie

Tomorrow, someone will post a pic of it, and that should give you a clue as to where it is. :p

Looks great cAm. Your getting some great comments too. I like the way you made the different styles brick textures seemlessly go together. Good Job.

I had a blast playing this great map!! I loved everything about it ... the look, the gamplay, the fps, the bots were smart on adept ... a very solid job and I didn't run into any bugs (major or minor). The texturing was excellent. The lighting was maybe a bit too bright but ahhh I'm probably nit picking ... I look forward to more maps from you. Perhaps an AS map with a tropical theme ... that would rock!!! I'd be curious to know what Virax thinks of this map. Peace. :D

Thanks.

When i started this thing, pretty much the only thing i knew about Ued was how to add/subtract and texture stuff. This map was more of a learning map for me, but it seems to have turned out well.

I think we're all a bunch of necris, I told him it was too bright too ;)

I totally love this map! Great gameplay and item placement, the bots know what they're doing and it looks great. I can see this becoming a standard on ladders as well.

Great job cam, if you didnt tell anyone this was your first map they would never know!

thanks flak. ;)

Thx for beta'ing it also.

(btw, it IS darker than the beta you did, i guess i didn't make it dark enough though :p)

Just tried it out. Overall, I thought it was a good map. Very nice gameplay, so I'm more concerned with some of the visuals. The skybox was nothing special, and imo a little sparse. Lighting was decent, I'd rather have it too bright than too dark. Some of the geometry for your rooms felt a bit boxy; more trim and wall/ceiling decorations could help with that. Other than that, I liked the theme, and all those logs were a nice touch.

legacy-cAm
08-07-2004, 07:00 PM
Thanks for the input duke. All of those things were things that i was aware of also :P

I worked on the skybox for a really long time, to learn that what i was doing would not work. So i just took a simple, crap skybox... :p As for the blockyness. I tried as hard as i could to keep gameplay the prominent feature in my map, and not have static meshes messing up walldodges and stuff. I was also having trouble FINDING meshes that would fit certain areas to fit the theme. So i'm fairly happy with how it turned out :)

Played this map 2 hours... 1 yesterday & 1 today. Here is the feedback you requested from me cAm.

The strong point of this map is definitely game play. It features loads of Z-Axis fights, with some close and narrow horizontal fights. There are a lot of different routes to choose if you wish to switch level. The “power weapons” (mini, flak, rocket) are all located in high transit locations, making them easy to get, but hard to get out of the room where the weapon was without any damage. The super shield location is perfect in my book, as it is very hard for people to camp there and stay unnoticed. 50 shield is also well placed, in a very condensed area, making it a risk to go a retrieve it.

Bots know what they are doing. They go get all the weapons, and all the power ups. They went in every single room there is, and they know how to jump down from the logs to hit you with a flak primary while falling ;).

cAm, the only thing there is to improve in your maps to be worthy of ownage is lighting and theme execution. This map is too bright, and it seems that it has been lighted using ambient lighting; same brightness can be found everywhere.

The map is also very blocky, and doesn’t respect in anyway the theme of “space station” that you have yourself exposed. I’ve never seen such an infestation of plants growing in rocks (I mean by that the plants on the floor where there is no grass)… It looks kind of weird. This map could have been improved by making the real nature areas look like closed in environments like a greenhouse of some sort, with the other rooms looking like engine rooms or control rooms for these areas. It would have made a better executed theme, as a space station should have some technology, without affecting game play that much.

I hope that for your next map you will follow these recommendations, as your map looks very promising.

legacy-cAm

Thanks for the suggestions. I was aware of the lighting, and i did dim it some from the beta's, i guess i just didn't dim it enough ;) I really concentrated on the flow and layout of this map, and it seems to have worked.

The theme was hard for me, and after over 2 months, i was just ready to release it. I was aware that it was too blocky, i was slightly paranoid that by making it too 'unblocky' would somehow ruin the gameplay (or at least tamper with) and i didn't want that to hapen.

I really WASN'T going for a 'space station' type thing. I tried to convey (but obviously failed to :p) that this was something really random that was found in the middle of nowhere and turned into a tournament map.

I'll try to keep your suggestions in mind for my AS map im trying to get started on now, and thanks again for checking it out. ;)

yea, i did. :p

took over 20 hours to do all the logs completely, plus i had to keep the log end pieces lined up w/ the logs (i had to make those seperately b/c there wasn't one w/ the mesh). Worst time of mapping, but it was worth it. :)

edit: and yea, i posted it up on a couple places.

Woot. :) I like it alot. I couldn't find much wrong with it in terms of errors, the prefinal you gave me was nitpickers choice I have yet to test out this version. I'm fairly certain you got most of the mildly annoying stuff taken out so it'll be a very strong canidate for M.E Approved. I'll PM you the result when I get this into my non suckage computer. :D

First Map Exploiter made map :haha:

Me cannot wait to throw myself at the new one you come up with, and I promise you that I will find the easter egg in that one too! XD
